David Corn: All the talk is Hillary, Hillary, Hillary. While this move remains a surprise and perhaps even a gamble, it could be that the more important pick of the day is retired General James Jones to be Barack Obama's national security adviser.

I was talking to a group of Marines and said "..as a former Marine..", they interupted me with "...there are no former Marines, once a Marine always a Marine", they were absolutey correct, so as a Marine I say Jim Jones will be the best National Security advisor ever, and as a Marine I am very familar with Gen. Jim Jones1

Our economic growth cannot keep pace with compound interest. Unemployment, if measured by pre-Clinton standards is 15%.

At this juncture what could be more important than Treasury Secretary?

And what have we got?

More shills for inherited wealth. Uh oh, we're in deep shit.

Terrorism isn't even close.

Our so-called "defense" department is a joke, when measured by cost/benefit.

Worse it is used exclusively for offense.

It hasn't performed well, in Vietnam, on 9-11, or Iraq.

On the other hand, Wilson did a bangup job once in Afghanistan. Only cost $1 billion.

"On the other hand, Wilson did a bangup job once in Afghanistan. Only cost $1 billion."

We've always been good at arming and supplying others to conduct proxy wars, it's just when we go fignt them ourselves that we get into trouble.

Which explains why you have foreign troops bivouaced in your back yard, right? ... what a douche

His nose?

""...there are no former Marines, once a Marine always a Marine", is downright frightening. "We don't take applications, we make commitments." "We don't make promises, we make marines." And teen-agers eat up this shit with a scoop of vanilla on top. I posted months ago that I've known a number of - er - FORMER marines. None survived the experience with all faculties intact. herm

isnt he like totally against any timetable and much like hillary pretty far apart from barry on foreign policy

barrys gonna have to have talk with both of them before they are done, I predict

and if this is another attempt at a 'lincoln administration'...barry might need to read up on how THAT one ended up and it wasnt real pretty

The guy is sold, level-headed and a sensible pick. The left is not gonna get Noam Chomsky and the right is not gonna get some ideologue war-hawk who takes his orders from the PNAC warmongers.

Common sense has returned, we all hope. Let's see.

If you're talking about a gap between Jones' and Obama's opinions then I say that is a good thing. I mean, won't it be nice to have a President who is secure enough with himself to have advisers and Cabinet members who have their own opinions and don't parrot his for a change?

I agree with Corn. The pick of the person who will be the Naational Security Advisor who will lead the US Military against the American people for the first time since the Civil War IS the most important pick.

All Communist nations concentrate upon military suppression of their people. Obama's first announced policy is the establishment of a minimum of 20,000 troops ready to strike against the people of AMERICA.

That is indeed the most critical choice for a person who's aim is to make America the second largest Communist nation on the earth.

I bet Nikita Kruschev is smiling in his coffin in Red Square right now.

Barack H. Obama - Will go down in history as the FIRST Czar of the United Communist States of America!

Obama's first announced policy is

Thanks for proving yet again what a joke you truly are. This had nothing to do with Obama, unless you think he's been calling the shots in the current Administration for quite some time now.

WASHINGTON The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.

The LONG-PLANNED SHIFTin the Defense Department's role in homeland security was recently backed with funding and troop commitments after years of prodding by Congress and outside experts, defense analysts said.

There are critics of the change in the military and among civil liberties groups and libertarians who express concern that the new homeland emphasis threatens to strain the military and possibly undermine the Posse Comitatus Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military's role in domestic law enforcement.

But the BUSH ADMINISTRATION and some in Congress have pushed for a heightened homeland military role SINCE THE MIDDLE OF THIS DECADE, saying the greatest domestic threat is terrorists exploiting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Now - you may not like the idea, but it sure as heck isn't Obama's plan.

You sound like a lunatic, but I'm sure you know that on some level.
