Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The Bush administration ignored warnings and backed off proposed crackdowns on no-money-down, interest-only mortgages years before the economy collapsed, buckling to pressure from banks, according to an AP review of regulatory documents. "Expect fallout, expect foreclosures, expect horror stories," California mortgage lender Paris Welch wrote to U.S. regulators in January 2006.

But but but I thought the whole problem was Chris Dodd's fault???

Every now and then the ugly truth is revealed.

This scam shows the power and priviledge enjoyed by the Emperor with No Clothes. Without real estate inflation and the construction boom it triggered, we would have only had to endure our meathead President for 4 years.

Once he couldn't run again, gasoline prices exploded. Many hedge funds made more on the oil downturn as they did on the rise. Then in his last few months, Shrub emptied the National Treasury and sabotaged worker safety programs. Talk about being born again, praise Jesus.

And those who "blame the Democratic Congress" can read this and tell us it isn't true, right?

you have GOT to be kidding........

for months now we have been trying to say that THIS was the real cause of all this economic angst and you lefties here "poo pooed' it almost from the beginning.

and now that ...cue the EVEIL music).......bush or cheney is tied to it.

then now its some kind of problem

you people would be funny if no so tragic

"for months now we have been trying to say that THIS was the real cause of all this economic angst and you lefties here "poo pooed' it almost from the beginning."

Because we were more interested in dealing with the truth than just defending Dubya and the Republicans like you are. You CAN'T face the truth. Sad.
Nutcase says it very well above.

BULLSHIT: The libs are just trying to get the attention away from the real screw ups, BARNEY FRANK and CHRIS DODD.

PS. DANNI your full of SHIT as usual!

Mornin' Oozie.

oh danni.......nice try but it rings hollow when you try and defend a stance that now EVEN your side says is what we were saying..........

a major fuck up by not letting them ALL FAIL and now we the taxpayers will be paying the price........

and IF it werent a problem now.........all of you on the left would be trying real hard to say something good about this policy from bush

trying to help poor people???? oh my God.......

whats up with THAT?????

so you see once again....liberals are just so happy that we are in a crisis and they still have bush to blame..............

You know Dani can not blame a democrat ever.

so this seems like the financial page today

I was listening to a new show here in houston and it is a black lady and the show is called the
'civil right'

and she said that the federal reserve was unconstitutional........is that right???

I hope Obama does well. We will definitely see.

See what I mean?

"You know Dani can not blame a democrat ever."

Bull shit. I blame Dems for things they did when in power...such as signing NAFTA....but they haven't been in power for a very long time.

duh!

you mean this isn't barney franks fault? This isn't because the govt did subsidized housing for the poor?

I bet the righties heads are exploding. Wait for Rush Limbaugh to tackle this, then we'll know what they'll say.

Danni- NAFTA was signed by HW Bush. Now I grant you that Clinton had 8 years to dump it and didn't, but let's not forget who signed the fucking thing.

we will say what is the truth

there were plenty of warnings from the right about problems with barneys responsiblities in this area and we were told SEVERAL TIMES BY SEvERAL different people that mae and mac were both doing just fine and people like franklin rich were doing GREat jobs and we all KNOW that wasnt the truth........

and NOW me and you are going to have to pay for it

Republicans are truly evil SOB's

RASTANINJA: Go back to India. We have enough liberal ASSHOLES here without importing more.

India?

Clinton got a blowjob in 1997 and left us with a surplus in 2000.

Clinton also left us with Benshithead to take down the towers.

A legacy Bush will apparently continue, Oozie.

FTA: "Expect fallout, expect foreclosures, expect horror stories," California mortgage lender Paris Welch wrote to U.S. regulators in January 2006

20/20 foresight.

Spud especially liked Jim Cramer's early take on the subject.

"THESE PEOPLE KNOW NOTHING!!"

This scam shows the power and priviledge enjoyed by the Emperor with No Clothes. Without real estate inflation and the construction boom it triggered, we would have only had to endure our meathead President for 4 years

~Nutcase

Yuop, Dumbya was going around crowing about his successes in creating wot he called the "Ownership Society".

Well, like when Dumbya called the GOP "The Party of Convictions" before a string of them went up on charges and got convicted there was a certain truth imbedded into his Big Lie there.

That truth being that Society got Pwned!

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd?

Agreed they were part of the problem rather than the solution and it's nice to see that certain members of the RT brigade have moved on from claiming that the sub-prime crisis was primarily caused by greedy minorities rather than unscrupulous banks and the toothless regulations they lobbied for.

That's progress right there sez Spud.

Be Well.

Clinton also left us with Benshithead to take down the towers

Hey, at least Clinton tried to take Bin Hidin' out which is more than you can say fer Dumbya's pathetic swat at his long time "friend of the family".

Also, unlike Dumbya, Clinton didn't sit on his hands and eagerly await 9/11 and help it to happen by ignoring red flags and tying the hands those who could have stopped it.

9/11 worked out perfectly fer two people.

Bin Laden and George W Bush.

Be Well.

As for the topic at hand, to blame anyone...look directly at fannie and freddie. They packaged almost all mortgages and resold them under their wrappers. The record is very clear that dems resisted any and all attempts to limit them

It's funny how the AP can say community org's suggested these restrictions. ACORN, the dems, et all, were 110% behind writing mortgages for anyone, regardless of credit scores.

To blame anyone other then the purchaser of esoteric mortgages is a riot. 30 yr mortgages hit 4.75% in the past cycle. If that wasn't a low enough paymemnt, then the purchaser put the gun to their head with 5 out of 6 chambers loaded.....

BTW Floating rate ARM's can now be reset at very low rates....................

Bushling left bin Laden in Tora Bora... and Bush Sr. using Reagan as a sock puppet helped fund bin Laden when he was fighting the Soviets. Then there was the flip flop between Iran and Iraq arms deals and the sale of weapons to Saddam to be used against his own people. Then when he finally pissed us off by actually invading Kuwaite... the Mujhadeen were part of the allied troops that fought in Desert Storm... Bush Sr's war. .... Bush Sr. is responsible for the souring of relations between bin Laden and the failed internal coup against Saddam.

Furthermore there were 8 years of (generally successful years) of Clinton in the White House compared to 20 years of Bush in one form or another in the White House. They were busy inserting further into the middle east.

If you don't think Bush Sr. had much to do under addlebrained Reagan get real! He set the precedent for a vice president having broad powers... though it was done on the down low then instead of blatantly like Cheney did.

The Bush/Walker family has been fucking camels since the 30's so to lay the blame for the mess our nation's relationship to the Middle East on Clinton is ludicrous... and typical ignorance expressed by right wing mouth pieces.

BTW Floating rate ARM's can now be reset at very low rates....................

Too bad no one is lending right now. Plus, there is no equity in those overpriced houses the idiots bought. Most houses are 25% underwater, and I dont know of any bank that is going to give someone $400,000 on a $250,000 valued house. I say people should suck up the loss. I say NO to principal reductions. If I had known I could have bought a $400,000 house only to have the principal reduced so my paltry military check could afford it, I would have done it too! This mortagage mess is no one's fault except the people who took out the loan. There are plenty of people like me who stayed out on the sidelines and didnt buy a house. It just didnt feel right. How could someone making $50,000 a year afford a $400,000 house?? It didnt make sense. Those people should fail. It is only correct.

Nice try at revisionist history here but we all know democrats stopped better further regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

This is a congress problem and has been one for quite some time.

What has the lazy do nothing democratic party majority done about it, gave billions to the banks with no rules acting just like the banks who did the bad lending in the first place.

Our lazy do nothing democratic party majority is letting the wall streeters run willy nilly and do nothing. The democratic party majority will blight the people from all their giving or the people will begin to take control of those who are suppose to represent them.

There is some truth to what you are saying mw. Now they are demanding the big 3 come up with a viable business plan before getting one red cent.......

but did they ask the same from AIG? NO and they threw 65 billion or was it 150 billion at them. Can't seem to find any such requirements for fannie and freddie, nor for ANY of the banks with TARP money.

"Nice try at revisionist history here but we all know democrats stopped better further regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."

Nice try at simplisticly attempting to pin the blame on Dems when it was 1% interest rates, Alan Greenspan, Bush tax cuts, wars without taxation and Phil Grams deregulation which created this mess.
The talking point about the Dems is a very minor issue in comparison and has been shown to have had little importance in the overall creation of the economic crisis. Rush Limbaugh though will continue to fill empty heads with that nonsense though and many will let him.

Is there anyone here who doesn't honestly think that both parties let us down on the mortgage crisis? If Bush would've gone the other route it would have been racist & mean to poor people and he would have been crucified for that? Democrats got plenty of money from Freddie & Fanny to help them solidify the voting base of the "poor" because they "care" more. They're all idiots and we elected most of them again. You get what you ask for I suppose!

Everybody with half a brain know...
#35 | Posted by ozzieoswald

Yep, that's what it takes: half a brain. You betcha.

Ozzie

You forgot Phil Gramm.

I'm sure it was an oversight.

Here we go, danni allowing the lazy democratic party majority sherk their part in allowing this downfall of our economy.

Well, she refuses to admit that this begun long long before the change in the Fmaemac issue. This downing of our economy started in the 80's and has continued the slow fall towards the people since and the party knew and did nothing. In fact they knew and didn't even try to address the issue.

The democratic party of lazy putzes knew about all the off shoring of jobs, labor wages decline, rich elites getting all the money and what did they do, the lazy do nothing democratic party approved all of this. Abdication of responsibility inherently gives approval and acceptance of the problem.

I just don't understand how danni and danforth can blindly defend such abdication, it will not help congress make the necessary corrections in policy if those who give the support don't hold them up to the problems.

"I just don't understand how danni and danforth can blindly defend such abdication"

I just don't understand how Moneywar is such an idiot when it comes to governance. There hasn't been a single financial bill in over a decade with the Democrats' stamp on it. And anything & everything the Dems have tried to do in the last two years has been met with all-time record obstructionism. Yet MW refuses even to acknowledge what 41+ Senators and a President with a veto pen can thwart.

The doofus should take a civics class, and this time, pass it.

"I just don't understand how danni and danforth can blindly defend such abdication"

You just don't understand the filibuster or the veto then.

Danni- NAFTA was signed by HW Bush. Now I grant you that Clinton had 8 years to dump it and didn't, but let's not forget who signed the fucking thing.

are you sure??

I sure thought that it was one of his first things to sign....

look old girl

your answer isnt simplisitic, just incomplete

there was more than one occasion when republicans tried to do something about mae and mac and they were rebuffed by the majority party at EVERY TURN.
mccain talked about it during the campaign as others did
and I heard AT THAT TIME audios from maxine waters, for instance, talking about frank and F rich all doing a bangup job in thier positions.

and ISNT The idea of giving someone a mortgage who cant afford it a liberal idea to begin with??

that sounds like just the thing that you guys have blasted at us for some time. how we dont care about the poor and all that nonsense

A new report from the Associated Press claims that the mortgage meltdown is due largely to President Bush's failure to act in 2005. Sounds plausible until you actually look at the facts.
