The seige of the Nariman House in Mumbai is one of the odder and sadder aspects of this shiatstorm to Spud.
The sight of the orphaned toddler of this Rabbi couple soaked in blood and being carried outside of the besieged centre by an Indian employee is a zeitgeist meme from this tragedy that will live on in minds and hearts around the world fer many years to come.
So far people are keeping remarkably quiet about this part of the story.
Spud found the following statement on Reuters.
"Apparently the hostages did not remain alive," the Zaka service said in a brief statement quoting its staff in Mumbai. It did not identify the hostages nor say how many may have died.
Hints at this time are that all the Israeli hostages were killed by the gunmen.
The death toll just seems to keep rising here.
Hopefully every last one of these terorist fuckstains will be eradicated ASAP.
Spud caught a personal story of this tragedy on the CBC this morning. A Vancity guy was in Mumbai and staying at the Taj. His buddy called up to his room and tried to get him to come down to the bar for a drink. Vancity guy begged off cos he had an early flight in the morning then hung up and went to bed. Twenty minutes later at approximately 10:45 he hears a knocking on his hotel door. He knew it wasn't his buddy so he ignored it.
This move prolly saved him his life.
/Apparently, the knock on the door was the terrorists who, after killing the staff at the Front Desk, rifled through the info available looking for Western based tourists to take as hostage and then went room to room based on that info.
Ten minutes after hanging up there was the sound of gunfire in the streets. He tried to ignore it and go back to sleep.
Ten minutes after that there was an explosion that rocked the hotel.
Okay, THAT got him up.
Looked out the window and saw the carnage down below and decided to remove himself from the hotel post haste. Grabbed his passport and a few neccessities and headed down the stairs leading to the alleyway. Got to the alleyway and security forces there urged him to run fer cover away from the hotel.
He ran.
Security forces bundled him into a taxi and he headed off straight to the airport and he arrived back in BC last night and was interviewed by the CBC.
Managed to talk on the phone later to the buddy he declined to have drinks with.
His pal sed that he was in the bar with another friend when the gunmen came in and started seizing hostages.
In the confusion he managed to get away without being shot.
The guy he was having drinks with wasn't so lucky.
He got shot AND got taken hostage and so far no word on him.
Not good.
Be Well.
