The Republican Party has hit a new low. Just 34 percent of Americans in a Gallup Poll released Thursday say they have a favorable view of the party, down 40 percent from a month ago, before the election.

GOP approval hits new low. Stocks furthest in toilet since Coolidge days ...

Does anyone else feel that Bush is trying to finish the dismantling job by January? herm

Does Bush have a bust of Herbert Hoover in his bedroom?

He hasn't finished yet, herm. Still doing stuff that will take months or years to undo.

news.bbc.co.uk

""You see the Bush administration even today moving aggressively to do things I think are not in the interest of the country," he added.

The current administration has proposed a number of regulation changes they hope can be approved before Mr Obama's team moves into the White House.

Critics say many of the proposals would weaken environmental and consumer protection as well as reduce controls on drilling and mining companies.

Bush White House officials deny the plans are being rushed through, while critics suggest the proposals could be difficult for Mr Obama's administration to undo, calling them an "assault on the public"."

Poll: GOP Approval Hits New Low

At least some in this country are tired of getting ass-raped by these thugs.

It's about freakin' time!

uuuuuummmm... Clinton got a blow job.

But, but, but ...SOCIALISM!

Be Well.

That's too bad. When George will is gone, there will be no more of the old conservative intellectuals. That's a shame too, I really mean that.

They've been replaced with sarah palin and jesus.

All while the democrats sit around doing nothing to fix this economy.

Wonder if the pollees were the same in the Obama voter poll where they didn't even know that Dems were in charge of congress??

"conservative intellectuals"

Now there's an oxymoron, but at least Bill Buckley and George Will talked the talk.

Now they are just idiots.

All while the democrats sit around doing nothing to fix this economy.

You raise a good point, on the other hand, since the Dems picked up (at least) 7 seats in the Senate and 20 in the House, perhaps those dismal congressional approval ratings were because of the GOP members?

OK, I know that's a false assumption to make, the fact remains that although Congress has remarkably low approval, the GOP has become nationally disliked enough to have been ousted from part of its traditional strongholds...perhaps the Republican party really should get back to its roots.

Well, Congress is still 49.5% Pubs, so I guess they're "(M)arxist" too.

IF a true democratic congress runs roughshod over GOP opposition and gets things done that the non-Reagan-myth-butt-buddies approve of, what do the Reagan-myth-butt-buddies do? What strawman (fairness doctrine!) do they construct in order to keep their piranas roiling? Hmmmmm. A hellish as the world repub rule has left us, this new act in the culture war will be quite interesting to watch as the right goes over the edge with the indignity of discovering most folks find them to be Natural History Museum diorama curiosities of a stupider time.

TFD,

Sometimes I forget myself, try this...

Yeah, all those Democrats in Congress are why they have a 9% approval rating. That's why they not only lost numerous seats that were up for grabs, but were also voted out of incumbent seats in traditional Democratic strongholds...oh wait, nevermind.

"God/Jesus 2012" is damned interesting. Will J.C. accept No. 2? Were either Big G or His bastard son born in the United States? Since neither seems willing to relegate gays to second-class citizenship, will the religious right vote for that ticket? For openers ... herm

Just wait till some of the secrets of the Bush Admin. start to come out next year.

Why wait? I doubt we will be surprised.

Ah, it was just yesterday when we all sat staring at that frighteningly prophetic SNL sketch with the braziers and the bare chest of Bush, wondering "Could it be? Has the End come? Can he really take it all down before he's done? Is this our true future?"

Economy? Check.
Environment? Check.
National Security? Check and Double Check.
Crime? Check.
Public Morale? Check.
International Relations? Check.
Infrastructure? Check.
Emergency Management? Check.
Food Security? Check.

Did I miss anything? That looks like a perfect 10.

Is it not over yet? Did he not score a Do we cheer now?

Ah, right. Science. Check.

You guys do remember that Clinton got a blow job... in the Ofal Ovvice!!! That's wayyyyyyy worse.

REV

As Dick Cheney would say . . . We've made great inroads.

From the neo-con point of view, Bush and Cheney have been remarkably successful. Their only regret is that they didn't have a good 2008 candidate ~ and it was a mistake to gear up for a run against Hillary Clinton.

It's hard to believe that born-Americans were, and still are, on a mission to bring this country to it's knees. I suppose they thought they had to destroy one way of life before they could rebuild another (in their image).

The result of the Bush/Cheney (or is it Cheney/Bush?) administration speaks for itself. Their real war was against the United States of America ~ which is something I've been saying for several years. It was all so obvious from the beginning.

I'm equally sure they'll be back, in another incarnation, to try and finish the job. But first, they'll have to destroy Barack Obama and the ideas that cost them this election.

It's pure evil, greed and a lust for world domination that lurks in the hearts of these people who call themselves New Conservatives.

I came to the conclusion that it's not al Qaeda who hate us for our freedoms ~ it's the neo-cons.

Like the ancient Romans, those who hold public office in this country have for years now trampled upon the Constitution, whether they are Republicans, Democrats, liberals, or conservatives. Woodrow Wilson started it when he trampled on civil liberties during the First World War. Franklin Roosevelt copied Wilson's methods to impose the New Deal on us in the Depression and trample on our liberties during World War II. Since then, almost every president, congress, and decisions by the Supreme Court has further destroyed the Constitution. Do you think this might have something to do with your precious polls?

Were either Big G or His bastard son born in the United States?

well, Jesus was born in Israel, the 51 st state...

LIBERTY

This current crop of thieves are a little more common than that.

They just ran the country's credit card through the roof and now they're leaving town.

After, that is, opening the vault for another $700 Billion to be distributed among their supporters and friends.

Haven't you seen the line forming?

Haven't you seen the hands reraching out eagerly for a piece of that $700 Billion pie?

As for polls ~ well, thieves aren't in a popularity contest.

Republican approval hits a new low; matches their campaign tactics.

I've seen that line. My favorite so far is AmEx becoming a bank just to get in that line.

Truly priceless.

That's too bad. When George will is gone, there will be no more of the old conservative intellectuals. That's a shame too, I really mean that.

George WHO? herm

"This current crop of thieves are a little more common than that."

This is a logical progression of it....in the Roman Republic, once old-fashioned virtue had been eroded by conquest, wealth, and imported vices, corruption, greed, egoism, and a selfish lust for power replaced patriotism as the spur to public office. Villainous demagogues played the mob to usurp power. The constitution was ignored and trampled into the dust. In the end, the entire rotten structure collapsed to be replaced by a tyranny that lasted for over 1500 years. In our republic--which is such in name only, being nowadays little more than a slightly restricted mobocracy--selfish and greedy demagogues play the mob to gain power by dubious means. Corruption, dishonesty, selfishness, greed, and the lust for power are the order of the day. How long before our enfeebled and degenerate government is replaced by a tyranny?

well...I hope so for you sake, but forgive me if I am not holding my breath...

Any before anybody asks a mornon is what my daughter used to call her little brother. Still makes me laugh.

"That's too bad. When George will is gone, there will be no more of the old conservative intellectuals."

I've listened to and read columns by Will for years and sorry, he just never impressed me at all. It's not so much his politics, William F. Buckley impressed me incredibly, it's that he thinks he is much smarter than he really is.

Hey, LIBERTY!

Obama is like having our very own Mighty Mouse.

"Here I come to save the day."

"Clearly, they weren't aggressive enough over the past two years. The GOP needs to become more conservative. I suggest they appeal harder to "real" Americans by proposing a complete ban on abortions, no exceptions for incest, rape or the "health" of the mother; a proposed Constitutional Amendment to mandate strict observance of evangelical Christianity; the death penalty for people who say "Happy Holidays"; encourage citizens to report any suspicion of neighbors, friends or family who engage in anything but missionary-position intercourse for the purpose of procreation - that sort of thing.

You got too soft GOP, it's time for a hard right turn!"

So sed a guy on FARK.

I believe that most people with half a brain understand that the likes of Palin andf Joe the Plumber are much more in the mainstream these but does being in the mainstream qualify you to lead the US? Would you rather have someone with an average IQ than someone with an IQ through the roof? The point is why would you want such ignoramuses leading the country? We have just completed an eight-year experiment with a half-wit, who many would like to sit around with and have a beer with, as our president and CIC. Look where that has gotten us. I said it before, everyone should ask themselves if they want someone as smart or stupider than them to be president of our country. I want someone much smarter than me who can actually string a set of words together to make a coherent sentence with a thought behind it.

As for O. he is a right guy at this time. We are merely following a common progression in the history of states: from monarchy to oligarchy to republic to democracy to tyranny. We have reached the democracy stage, and tyranny is already visible on the horizon.

Kerry was not an ignoramus. He was highly educated and knowledgeable. The reason I didn't vote for him was because I thought he was too much of an idealogue and not pragmatic enough. 2004 was the first time ever I couldn't bring myself to vote for anyone.

Please explain how Kerry managed to get lower grades in the same classes at the same COllege as Bush and had much lower SAT's

Ummmm, they don't let you have help with SAT's. And if you get help with tests in College it would be cheating and you would get in trouble, just ask Biden.

"God/Jesus 2012"

Until you relegate this 'ticket' to your churches and your homes where it belongs, the republicans have no future. There are plenty of us independents and moderates who are fed up with the big government policies of BOTH parties. I'd be more than willing to vote republican if they'd be willing to give someone like Gary Johnson(former NM gov)a chance.

IS THAT LOWER THAN THE 9% APPROVAL RATING OF THE DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS?

#58 | Posted by ozzieoswald

I know Oozie doesn't really like to keep up with the latest trends, but ...

#1 the approval rating is 18.4% and its for the WHOLE Congress, not just Democrats.

#2 Regardless of the approval rating, America sent 7 or 8 more Democrats to the Senate, 20 more Democrats to the House, and elected a Democrat President by the 3rd largest popular vote margin in the last 40 years.

How 'bout them stats, Oozie?

#2 Regardless of the approval rating, America sent 7 or 8 more Democrats to the Senate, 20 more Democrats to the House, and elected a Democrat President by the 3rd largest popular vote margin in the last 40 years.

Rhetoric at its best!

The fact that republicans were even worse doesn't sit well to the approval of congress.

The real problem is the approval rating doesn't mean shit. The democatic party majority congress just keeps doing what they are doing no matter how low the ratings go.

Basically the democratic party majority is telling the American people to go fuck themselves, they will do what they want, when they want and don't care if the people approve.

No Money, its not rhetoric, its fact. No matter how much spin gets put on it, right now the country trusts Democrats more to deal with critical issues.

That's not to defend everything Pelosi and Reid have done - IMO they've done a pretty abysmal job. Although some of that stems from Republican obstructionism, they have not really exhibited much leadership and need to get their acts together in the new Congress.

republican obstructionism

did you type that with a straight face after watching them stall inssue after issue when the republicans were the majority..........

admittedly...if the repubs had been a majority like dems are...take no prisoneers and bipartisanship be damned.........it would likely have been a whole different story

and I say that about dems with begrugeoned respect

"did you type that with a straight face"

Most assuredly, since the Republicans set a new record for filibusters during this session.
