Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has lost his bid for a seventh term. The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by 3,724 votes after Tuesday's count, an insurmountable lead with only about 2,500 overseas ballots left to be counted.

Let me know when you have enough, dumbfuck.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Seeing as how Teddy's shaky status woulda put Sarah Palin in line for the Senate if anything had happened, this is great news. It's not like this country needs her to come howling out of Wasilla again.

What is that line right-wingers like to chant about Obama? Oh, yeah:

"ONE AND DONE"

It'll be the perfect political epitaph for Palin.

Na Na Na Na Hey Hey Hey Goodbye. LMAO. So sorry Stevens now You can run for the Penal Colony Congress. Bet they will love You arguing their cases for them.

Larry

Sorry dogPiss, but its not my fault that you don't comprehend 7th grade govt studies. Regardless of your brilliant retort, lots of people care. Including me.

It means dipshits like you didn't succeed in electing dipshit leaders like Bush and Stevens again and that this nation will improve with the ability for congress to pass corrective legislation to repair the damage of the last 8 years.

Sure it will. Climate change and Impeachment are what turn inpeciles like you on. Don't wear that little thing out before January 20th, chump.

I'm glad this scumbag is gone. As much as I would hate to see democrats have unfettered control of the senate, reelecting assholes like this is not the way to do it.

Ted "Series of Bribes" Stevens is a LOSER?

Jeez, who'da thunk it?

His "I paid all the bills they sent me" defense didn't hold up in court and now his "victory" doesn't stand up to a recount?

Well, that was fun!

Apparently even the people of Alaska are capable of seeing through his tissue thin lies and excuses and have finally had enough of his pork barrel shenanigans.

Wonder if Scary is gonna appoint herself or the First Dude to the vacated seat?

Wonder if Dumbya is gonna remember the old coot when he starts giving out wot is sure to be a record setting number of blanket pardons at the end of his reign of errors?

Wonder if Franken is gonna win tommorow's recount in Tiny Soda?

Wonder, ...ya know Spud is full of the stuff.

*insert obligatory joke HERE *

Be Well.

Ted Stevens was the last thing standing between our way of life and socialism. Nice try tubeman. You said it all when you cried out in freedom's voice that trucks did not deliver the Internet. Goodbye.

Well as an Alaskan... I am happy he lost his seat via an election... rather than because he went to jail. I know he may still do some time... but symbolically he got buried with his boots on.

He did a lot of good things for Alaska including negotiating one of the best treaty agreements between the US Government and Native Americans ever in the nation's history. He was also a pro choice senator. He voted against wiretapping.... not all he did was bad... it's a shame.

Unfortunately he lost his head falling under the spell of divisive Rovian political methods. A lot of Republicans got their heads all full of shit... thinking a paper thin "majority" was a mandate to run rough shod over everyone in his path. He was voted senator when Alaska was still a blue state. A shame he was aligned with the party that screams about entitlements, large government and taxes when they are the ones creating situations that call for such things. He had his hand out for tax payers dollars while all the time railing against paying taxes. I round that hypocrisy disturbing.

Bitch if you want about Palin... at least she has the naive vision of Alaska getting of the tax payer's tit.... via harvesting its own resources sometime... she is just out of touch with reality is all. She seems to forget that the Alaska she knows... the one that nurtured her was started as a socialist experiment.

I am thrilled that Begeich got it... he is home grown Alaskan born in Anchorage and not of the carpet bagger crowd of Stevens and Murkowski.

"Wonder if Scary is gonna appoint herself or the First Dude to the vacated seat?"

hi Spud, it's good to be full of wonder.

i believe a Dem named Begich actually won the seat. hard to believe, i know.

here's my short list of enemies of the people and the state:

Mcconnell, M.
Rohrbacher, D.
Graham, L.
Hunter, D.

This calls for a celebration!

I am so happy that asswipe is gone! Alaska will now have a Senator with less seniority! This is great! The rest of the states can keep more of their money!

And I forgot to say, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out Uncle Ted! Good Ridance to Bad Rubbish!

Wonder if Scary is gonna appoint herself or the First Dude to the vacated seat?

Spud, fortunately that's now off the table. Mark Begich will be occupying that senate seat. Phew, that's twice we've dodged the same bullet.

good riddance. Just another corrupt politician

I believe a Dem named Begich actually won the seat. hard to believe, i know.

Oops. Yer right. Spud wasn't thinking there.

In Spud defense Spud just celebrated Begich's win and Stevens loss by going out back and smoking an Alaskan salmon.

Spud,

If you haven't done so already, you might want to add Gingrich to your list:

Discussing actions by individual protesters of Proposition 8, Newt Gingrich stated: "I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional religion."

That one?

Oh, he's on there all right.

Now he's on about "Gay Fascism"?

Whaa?!

Yeah, cos rethugs are always being tied to the back of trucks by gay fascists and dragged to their death. Well, when they aint being tied to fences and tortured and left to die./snark>

58 and counting. Franken might win and make it 59.

It's a lot easier to cut a deal with one or two decent Republicans like Snowe, Collins and Coburn than it would be with five or six.

"58 and counting. Franken might win and make it 59."

Franken camp's position 11/18/08

Franken spokesman Andy Barr said Monday that the campaign knew of "hundreds" of absentee ballots that had been rejected by election judges, and that at least a dozen counties had so far complied with the campaign's formal request to each Minnesota county for lists of rejected ballots. He said a hearing is scheduled Wednesday in the campaign's lawsuit seeking Ramsey County's list.

The 18-page legal brief that the campaign filed Monday with the state Canvassing Board included four examples of absentee voters said to be disenfranchised when their ballots were rejected. Jessup Schiks, of Kandiyohi County, had his absentee ballot rejected because officials ruled the signature didn't match the registration card; campaign officials said Schiks later signed an affidavit confirming the ballot was his.

In another case, Bruce Behrens, a Goodhue County resident, said his absentee ballot was rejected because officials believed his girlfriend, who vouched for him, wasn't a registered voter even though she is.

I missed it, but thanks for the tip. Maybe I can catch it on a rerun. I'm interested in the topic. Yesterday a friend lent me a copy of Garry Wills' book, What Jesus Meant, which I look forward to reading.

Did ya catch the Nova "Secrets of the Bible" thingy tonight, Gal?

It was very good, as are most NOVA programs IMO

GAL TUESDAY

They're rerunning NOVA now. 12 am CST

Thanks, AU. I just checked my local PBS stations (there are two in this area), but neither of them are airing it right now I'm afraid. :-(

I had thought for sure Ted Stevens would win and then when he returned to D.C. the Republican Senators would dismiss him for his fraud convictions and leave his spot available for Sarah Palin if she wanted to run for his open Senate seat. My faith in the voting process has been restored. I thought behind the scenes everything possible would have been done to make sure Stevens won to open the spot for Palin.

Looks as though no monkey business took place with any paperless trail, e-voting machines and all the voting was above-board and honest. Hooray for America. I am now less cynical than I used to be. It didn't matter all that much to me who won this Senate seat as long as the votes were counted honestly and apparently they were.

Ahhh - what a hoot....time to peek into the B.O. Lib Asylum....yep- the inmates are giddy with delusions of self-importance as usual....meds are forthcoming....

This douche was single-handedly responsible for killing countless fuel economy standards.
So long you old fuck.

Ted Stevens was the last thing standing between our way of life and socialism.

Too bad he broke the law then, huh?

Ted will be back damn it! Remember, Joe McCarthy was once considered unpopular, now his face is on the eight cent stamp.

McCarthy's best student will be happy to note that her condition is no longer a disease in Sweden. Never mind, he isn't happy about anything...he's dead.

Funny you should mention Sweden. Ted is a huge ABBA fan. He claimed their music could stun a wolf at half a mile.

I care. It assures that there will be no Palin in the senate. Not that I care that she's there, but more because I think she wanted that and won't get it.

I guess God slammed another door in her face.

Loudspeakers may be as effective (and certainly more compassionate) than a high powered bullet blasting from a helicopter?

I'd donate ABBA CD's if I had any

Impeachment? I do believe that's a republican fetish.

She's wondering, "I coulda been a contender ... Did we get ALL the witches and demons out of me the last time we tried?"

Looks as though no monkey business took place with any paperless trail, e-voting machines and all the voting was above-board and honest.

I would still like to see some "Best Practices" published and enforced in time for the 2010 elections. One of those best practices should seek to expand early voting into more states and to more sites within those states. They should also seek to ensure that there are enough polling places and machines to ensure that voters don't experience extra long wait times. Also, let's not forget Paperless Trail.

BYE BYE to Caribou Barbie!!!

I fear we haven't heard the last of Sarah Palin. She got bit by the Fame and Glamour of the spotlight and simply won't go away. We can only hope however.

Ted "My wife did it" Stevens.

I'll take that as a compliment considering the source. Say hey to Gobber, Floyd

Who is going to get to wear the Hulk tie?

Another reason to celebrate is we won't have to listen to Sarah Palin explaining her appointment of his replacement.

Good for the people of AK to do the right thing and give this guy the boot.

At least we know the electorate is smarter than the ones residing in LA who re elected Jefferson who had the 90k in his freezer.

www.cnn.com

Stevens made the big mistake of trying to get a speedy trial. He should have delayed it like Jefferson has done. He has been under indictment since 2005? Crazy.

So what on earth was Stevens thinking? He lost with the absentee votes--out of heavy Dem area of Anchorage. Not to mention that Begich was their mayor. Thise votes were cast During the trial.

He must really think he was innocent--otherwise he would have delayed the trial until after the election--pleading inocence all the way.

"He must really think he was innocent--otherwise he would have delayed the trial until after the election--pleading inocence all the way."

Or perhaps he thought he could bamboozle the jury. After all, he did blame-shift over to his wife.

Good riddance! How could convicted felon have the chutzpah to run for public office? How could a person vote for one?

Blind partisian politics sure mess up a person's mind.

"Yes, and Repugnant didn't spill a drop.

#7 | Posted by wisgod "

Got it all on tape, didja, Cheezus?

What the fuck, Alaska? How did this guy even get so many votes? Yes, he lost (and thank God), but did people seriously go to the polls and think "well, Stevens is a scumbag and was convicted on 7 felony charges, but I'm gonna vote for him anyway!"

It boggles the mind.

It boggles the mind.

As does just about anything that goes into the voting booth or comes out of the mouth of a blindly partisian sheeple

Wisgod - "Climate change and Impeachment are what turn inpeciles like you on."

And i guess morops like you think that wars of aggression are legal (internationally that is).

Else what's your beef against impeachment?

So because Alaska elected a democrat they are back on the "Most Favored State" list of the DR left. No more insults? I guess when Texas elects only democrats we too will be on the list - tools.

Alaskan voters did the right thing - too many votes for the criminal but unlike the presidential election enough people made a sane and intelligent choice.

Yeah, ElCid - i can see it now:

'Vote Palin - the sane and intelligent choice.'

Quick with the copyright - you could make a bundle.

Did you bother to read what you typed?

You accuse others of favoring Alaska because they now have a Dem for a Senator, but then you say that the people didn't make a 'sane and intelligent choice' in the presidential election.

I'm willing to bet you thought many of these same people made the 'sane and intelligent choice' when they voted for Bush.
