A Wichita, Kan., church marquee reads "America we have a Muslim president. This is a sin against the Lord." Mark Holick, pastor of The Spirit One Christian Center, said, "The main point of the marquee is to cause the Christians to understand he is not a Christian."

kansas...where the world is still flat.

Isn't Kansas where the so-called "Rev." Phillips is from? You know, the idiot who protests at military funerals? That scumbag?

Yes, but that would be Fred Phelps:

Why are Kansans so fucked up?? Can anyone tell Me??

~Larry

Spud has a theory.

It's cos it's so flat.

Ya see, Spud thinks that a lot of modern day Kansans are actually decended from the original members of the "Flat Earth Society" who moved there cos it's flatness tended to prove out their theory within the realm of their limited perspective.

When you start with that kinda genetic stock certain results are inevitable.

/Spud keeeeds!

Actually it's the fact that a lot of the state is still mostly agrarian and thus cling to old traditions a lot more fiercely than their more urban counterparts in other states.

That sed, not all Kansans are incapable of evolution.

Spud thinks Larry is a good egg who fights the good fight.

That's a good start.

Gotta start someplace.

Be Well.

Latest Phelps news?

Phelps and company recently issued a press release announcing they would be protesting then Senator Obama's grandmother's funeral. A portion of the press release reads: "Obama says his grandmother Dunham raised him, and, her "influence on his manner and the way he viewed the world was substantial." If so, then she has much to answer for as she stands before the Lord. Obama says he will use the White House as a Bully Pulpit to advance the cause of murdering more babies and same-sex marriage."

Phelps to protest Obama's Gramma's Funeral?

Have Phelps and the Secret Service been formally introduced yet?

^_^

Dorothy? The spree killer??

You should be able to tell us. You're the one from Kansas!

Oh, you can't do that. To prevent them from protesting the funeral is restricting their freedom of speach rights.

Dude I haven't figured it out yet. Tis why I asked.

Larry

I was kidding Larry. Actually where you miss the issue is where you believe that Phelps can't be sued in civil court for defamation... that being sued is a violation of Phelps right to free speech.

This minister is another idiot who fell for Andy Martin's hoax (the guy who started the rumor on FreeRepublic.com).

Hey Eberly are You going to bow down to Me when the Court overturns the Fred Phelps Verdict on the grounds it's Unconstitutional?? Just curious.

Larry

it's not 'cause Kansas is flat. It's because the wind blows all the freaking time! Seriously. It gets to a guy after awhile.

what do you think the court will do? I want to make sure of the details.

www.washingtonpost.com

no way Larry.

That they will overturn the monitary verdicts against Fred Phelps based on the fact it violates His First Amendment Rights. Does THAT Clarify it Eberly.

Larry

Yes Way EBerly. It will be overturned upon appeal when the appellate court hears the case.

Larry

that clarifies your position Larry.

you are wrong. He can still protest. Just like I can stand outside your house in the street (public property) and shout certain things about you so your neighbors and parents can hear.

I can do that (arguably) but you can sue me for defamation and invasion of privacy and win.

legal and civil are different.

gotta go.

legal and civil are different.

Not when You use the Criminal Court to extort money out of the Defendant. So sorry Eberly.

I'm certain that if he goes too far with his protest-they'll become WELL acquainted....

The Spirit One Christian Center in Wichita, Kansas, needs to have their tax-free status revoked.

Since Obama has shown he is a Christian many many times this has only one way to think about this.

The church and preacher is RACIAL BIGOTS.

The only logical explanation.

You know if You split the State of Kansas down the middle using I35 to I135 when You reach Wichita and then when I135 runs into US81 east of there You have plenty of hills. To the west You have flat lands except maybe for the Northwest around Coberly You have flat lands. Especially around Southwest around Liberal(town not Political affiliation) on out westward. You have it all here in Kansas.

Larry

What's the mater with Kansas? What's the matter with small town America:

www.drudge.com

I think you mean Colby Kansas right?

Junction City sure was a shithole when I lived in Kansas

errrrrr that should be COLBY not Coberly

Yes Tron COLBY

What's the mater with Kansas?

Missourians have been asking that question since the Kansas Nebraska Act. I'm all for burning Lawrence again.

I'm all for a new Muslim President.

We have had Jewish, Christian, Agnostic, possibly Atheist Presidents ~ Why not Muslim?

Go Obama!

Ah, another ignoramus who fell for Andy Martin's hoax.

Kansas is a weird State. We have some of the backwards type of folks. Oh well it's where I am grounded at. It's not so bad really. You just have to learn to go with the flow.

Larry

Just wait minister man.

In a few years u might actually have a muslim president. The more hate you spew the more islam gains traction. It really is your own fault.

Hahaha

We Have A Muslim President

The first thing I thought was, "No we don't... no he's not."

Then I thought, "what's the bfd if he is?"

Then I read the part about it being a "sin against the lord" and thought, "well that takes the f'ing cake right there."

There's just no rationality with some of these people. When even the ministers talk like this, you know that more than just one somebody, somewhere, is planning something f'ed up.

Larry, I've got a suggestion for the weight loss. Take a shower, put on some loose fitting clothes, and around noon today, run (walk if you have to) as fast as possible until you reach the pacific.

Agreed.
Like Mr. Z, I'm still imagining that it can happen.

Ummmmmm Dude the Rocky Mountains are right next door to Me. How do You expect Me to run/Walk over them?? I guess I could try and then die leaving my carcass for the buzzards to consume. I guess that is one way to lose weight.

Larry

Were I from Kansas, which, thankfully, I am not, I would never admit it. Stupid freaks. They are an insult to God because of their reverse evolution.

Gee, the messiah was

1. Fathered by Barak Hussein Obama Sr., a Muslim with a Muslim name,

2. Mother divorced Barak Sr., and married Lolo Soetoro, a Muslim, moving to Jakarta when the Messiah was six years old.

3. Soetoro educated his stepson to be a good Muslim by schooling him in one of Jakarta's Wahabbi schools. Wahabbism teaches a radical form of Islam (probably "true" Islam) that is responsible for Islamic terrorism and Jihad movements around the world.

4. The Messiah's name, Barak Hussein Obama, is a Muslim name. I imagine if his father had instead named him "Jerry Falwell" Libs would be very concerned about possible Chrisitan fundamentalism, but since his name is a Muslim name, attached to Wahabbism, there should be no concern whatsoever.

Nope, there's no good reason to believe that the Messiah is a Muslim. It's just a right wing conspiracy!

Why Thank You Danni. I ain't afraid to admit I am a born bred Kansan. We just a tad bit different from the rest of the Country. There isn't, and you haven't offered any. You even shoot yourself in between your eyes with #4, but aren't bright enough to know it.

Sorry Larry, I'm sure there are plenty of nice folks in Kansas. Just kind of blew my top a little from that story.

Theo - you are simply a pathological liar. That bullshit was debunked months ago. He didn't go to a Wahabi school - it wasn't even a Muslim school. It was a public school. 'We Have a Muslim President'

I think Bush is probably some sort of Talibaptist.

As for Obama, Ayman al-Zawahri begs to differ: news.yahoo.com

Which brings us back to "socialist."

C'mon, rightbots, get some new material.

In the meantime, Zawahiri calls Obama a "house negro."

Doc! Nice timing.

C'mon, rightbots, get some new material.

Theo is on his own.

This argument about Barack Husein Obama's religion is hilarious considering his new name is President Barack Husein Obama. SAR, I suppose you think "public school" means the messiah attended something like the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School of Jakarta? LOL...LOL

Libtards abound!

Eberly maybe I should clarify. He was sued in a Governmental Court to extort money from Him for exersizing His Free Speech rights. Does THAT clarify it for You??

Larry

He was sued in a Governmental Court to extort money from Him for exersizing His Free Speech rights.

Are you asserting that anybody who is damaged and sues in civil court is "extorting" the other party?

SAR, I suppose you think "public school" means the messiah attended something like the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School of Jakarta? LOL...LOL

Why no. I sincerely doubt there is an elementary school named after Thomas Jefferson in Jakarta.

What does that have to do with anything, Liar?

So Kentucky is worse than Kansas huh?? I been through there a few times and kinda liked it. Of course I never lived there so I can't say.

Larry

Oh, and TheoLiar, lest you forget, my partner was born and raised in Indonesia so I can pretty much tell you anything you want to know about the public school system there.

Depends on what they are suing for and why Eberly

Larry

#76 | Posted by TheOneBS

You're obviously starting out on what promises to be a bad hair day.

Here, let me help out:

OBAMA WON!!!!!

Better?

Again Larry, let me give you another example....

I show up on your street and shout and hold up signs that you are a freak and a homo and whatever else and demonstrate on public property what I feel to be my opinion and exercize my free speech rights in doing so.

In the process, your wife leaves you, you get fired and nobody will speak to you. Your life is turned into shambles and you feel damaged.......do you not have the right to sue me for damages you have incured?

I think you do. I will not be arrested but rather served with papers and be forced to appear in a civil court to determine the outcome. My first amendment rights have not been taken away. In the meantime, I am free to continue my rant out in the street outside your home or business or church or any other place so long as it is public property.

(Update: CNN has tracked down the school in question, the Basuki School in Jakarta, which a deputy headmaster described as a "public school" with no particular religious agenda. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment," he told CNN. A classmate of Obama's described the school as "general," with students of many religious backgrounds attending. Obama entered the school at the age of 8 and attended for two years.)
Is it true that "Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim while admitting that he was once a Muslim?"
Once a Muslim? When? Unless I missed it while skimming Obama's two books and sundry news interviews, the senator has never mentioned being a Muslim at any point in his life. Yes, he lived in a Muslim country during part of his childhood and briefly attended a Muslim school there, but he certainly wasn't raised a Muslim and has never been, so far as I have been able to determine, a practitioner of that faith.
That anyone, let alone a sitting U.S. senator with designs on the highest office in the land, would conceal being a Muslim for twenty-odd years while going through the outward motions of practicing Christianity (or vice-versa, for that matter) is a bizarre accusation. I would be tempted to dismiss it as paranoid lunacy if it weren't so obviously a crass, politically-motivated smear.

THEONEBS

Yep. All but 2 years in a public school where they had a 'religion' class for an hour a week, Obama was educated in Christian schools. A Catholic school in Indonesia (Asisi) and Punahau Academy in Honolulu.

Here's their mission statement:

Mission and Philosophy
The Mission of Punahou School

We are committed to providing an environment where students can:

* Develop moral and spiritual values consistent with the Christian principles on which Punahou was founded, affirming the worth and dignity of each individual.
* Develop intellectual, academic and physical potential to the fullest degree, preparing them for college and for challenges facing them now and in the future.
* Develop and enhance creativity and appreciation of the arts.
* Appreciate cultural diversity and develop social responsibility.

You'll keep playing the same old song even though I provided the sheet music to another song above.

Question:

If Barak Hussein Obama Sr., had named his messiah-son "Jerry Falwell Obama" would it be fair to conclude that the same Messiah might have some Christian fundamentalist influences in his life?

Naaaaaah, all the libtards here would still be singing his praises! LOL...LOL

We have been over this before Eberly. Fred Phelps had every right to protest at these funerals and the Civil Lawsuit will be overturned upon appeal. Mark My words.

specifically I was referring to "rural" areas and how backwards they are relative to rural Kansas. I don't mean to throw Kentucky under the bus because it is a wonderful place overall.
We have been treated wonderful here. We are planning a move back to Kansas (Kansas City). I remember telling you that a firm in your town was recruiting me. I accepted the offer and will go to work for them in KC....eventually it will lead to a leadership position in Hutch in 4 to 5 years. That is very close to home for us so we (my wife and I) decided to pull the trigger and switch companies......extremely hard decision as I hate to leave my current one.

You do realize it says "Kick Me" on the other side of your sandwich board.

Don't you?

If Barak Hussein Obama Sr., had named his messiah-son "Jerry Falwell Obama" would it be fair to conclude that the same Messiah might have some Christian fundamentalist influences in his life?

#87 | Posted by TheOneBS

Uh uh, no way you're gonna try to weasel out of this one TheoLiar.

Nobody said Obama hasn't had Muslim influence in his life. That doesn't mean he's IS a Muslim.

My best friend growing up was Catholic and I went to mass with his family sometimes. Does that mean I had Catholic influence in my life? Sure. But I'm not a Catholic.

What is also means is that because of that I have a broader range of experience and knowledge - something that I know is considered dangerous in your tiny little world.

I am Takitez and I disapprove the message of Mark Holick.

(Though I did not vote for Obama, I do not consider him a Muslim).

On page 154 of "Dreams From My Father," Obama writes:

"In Indonesia, I had spent two years at a Muslim school, two years at a Catholic school. In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell my mother that I made faces during the Koranic studies."

Hmmmmm, so the Messiah himself says he attended a "Muslim school", and not a "public school." I wonder if there is such a distinction? Perhaps the two are one and the same?

The Messiah himself states he was involved with "Koranic studies." Last time I checked, public schools in America would not be allowed to teach young children "Christian studies." Such a curriculum would be denounced and no doubt shut down. But public schools in Jakarta have Koranic studies. Naaaaah, the messiah wasn't a Muslim. He was simply participating in a comparative religions course at age 8. Uhuh! Riiiiiight!

Oh, and by the way, the Koran is Islam's holy book, just in case any of you aren't able to see the association with Koranic studies.

Well Congrats on the move. Hope all works out OK for You Eberly. Best of luck.

Larry

When Theo starts dumbing down English for ya, yur really in trouble.

Oh, and by the way, the Koran is Islam's holy book, just in case any of you aren't able to see the association with Koranic studies.

Thanks for the heads-up.

THEONEBS:

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Allegations that Sen. Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a "madrassa" are not accurate, according to CNN reporting.

Insight Magazine, which is owned by the same company as The Washington Times, reported on its Web site last week that associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, had unearthed information the Illinois Democrat and likely presidential candidate attended a Muslim religious school known for teaching the most fundamentalist form of Islam.

Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and stepfather and has acknowledged attending a Muslim school, but an aide said it was not a madrassa. (Watch video of Obama's school Video)

Insight attributed the information in its article to an unnamed source, who said it was discovered by "researchers connected to Senator Clinton." A spokesman for Clinton, who is also weighing a White House bid, denied that the campaign was the source of the Obama claim.

He called the story "an obvious right-wing hit job."

Insight stood by its story in a response posted on its Web site Monday afternoon.

The Insight article was cited several times Friday on Fox News and was also referenced by the New York Post, The Glenn Beck program on CNN Headline News and a number of political blogs. (Watch how the Obama "gossip" spread Video)

School not a madrassa

But reporting by CNN in Jakarta, Indonesia and Washington, D.C., shows the allegations that Obama attended a madrassa to be false. CNN dispatched Senior International Correspondent John Vause to Jakarta to investigate.

He visited the Basuki school, which Obama attended from 1969 to 1971.

"This is a public school. We don't focus on religion," Hardi Priyono, deputy headmaster of the Basuki school, told Vause. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment."

Vause reported he saw boys and girls dressed in neat school uniforms playing outside the school, while teachers were dressed in Western-style clothes.

"I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan," Vause said on the "Situation Room" Monday. "I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that."

Vause also interviewed one of Obama's Basuki classmates, Bandug Winadijanto, who claims that not a lot has changed at the school since the two men were pupils. Insight reported that Obama's political opponents believed the school promoted Wahhabism, a fundamentalist form of Islam, "and are seeking to prove it."

"It's not (an) Islamic school. It's general," Winadijanto said. "There is a lot of Christians, Buddhists, also Confucian. ... So that's a mixed school."

Uhm, TheoLiar - Indonesia is not America. All children in public school are required to take a religion class - not just on Islam.

I know its very difficult for you to grasp any concept outside of your immediate, limited frame of reference. But other countries and cultures do things differently than we do.

Ayers is a smart man and he adapted to society (to keep his freedom), otherwise he is still a dangerous man if left to his devices: he wants all prisons abolished.

Yeah, prove two things first: (1) live among criminals and (2) reform criminals without the fear of punishment in the back of the mind.

One rabid liberal out of touch with reality. Unrepentant Ayers.

"This is obviously part of a plot by every legitimate news organization in the world to assist the Imanchurian Candidate (get the pun?), Obama, in taking over the world - at the same time making the Washington Times (and other wholly owned subsidiaries of Rev. Huh, TAKITEZ?

Jimmy Swaggart's still on the air.

Several prominent religious people of our day (Falwell, Robertson, et al) have called for the destruction of masses of people.

Ann Coulter said we should drop an atomic bomb on NYC.

They're all on the air (except Falwell who's in the ground).

Need I go on?

Yes, Jimmy Swaggart is still on the air and I'm glad for it.

(We'll discuss more on these later, as I gotta go for now)

Falwell has gone to heaven. He has graduated: for a child of God, physical death is a graduation --- the ultimate graduation.

(Ann Coulter.... hehehehe....)

There's nothing in a name.

That's why libs get all up-in-arms when folks say the middle name of the messiah. It really upsets them when messiah's full name is spoken. Next they will say "It's just a name...it doesn't mean anything." Of course if the Messiah's middle name were Graham, or Falwell, I'm sure there would be concern by the same who pretend the name means nothing.

Nope, he's not a Muslim. And just to show you we truly believe he's not a Muslim, we will disparage anyone who happens to mention the messiah's middle name, cuz
"Hussein" really doesn't mean anything. Therefore, leave it off when you speak the messiah's name.

Nope, he's not a Muslim, and we will hide everything that would indicate this to be so.

Won't you close your eyes with us?

Falwell has gone to heaven. He has graduated: for a child of God, physical death is a graduation --- the ultimate graduation.

God might have opened the trap door to show Falwell who's boss. Anyone who called for the mass murder of millions may not be the kind of neighbors God wants in His kingdom.

You can't judge a book by it's cover.

Yes, Jimmy Swaggart is still on the air and I'm glad for it.

This could be interesting ala "Jesus took prostitutes into His confidence too..."

Phelps is a creep. He came to my school to protest a school production of "The Laramie Project". What a freak. Seriously, this guy needs a life.

As for the article:
by what evidence? Do we see Obama falling to the ground an praying to Mecca 5 times a day? No. Does he wear a headdress? No. Does he praise Allah and his 99 names? No.
What we do see is critisicm of his Baptist minister for seeming to radical. Isn't it funny how people were trying to tie him to a Christian church, and now they are trying to tie him to the muslims?

Mention his middle name. Do it often. It's time everyone got over a middle name given to him by his father.

Besides, King Hussein of Jordan is one cool dude - and very pro-America.

Feeling better now, pookie?

TheoLiar apparently either did not receive or was incapable of comprehending the "when you're already in a deep hole, stop digging" memo.

FWIW - I really hope Obama uses his full name during his oath of office and stands tall with the name his parents gave him.

Its only when pipsqueaks like you, TheoLiar, try to use his name as a weapon that we take offense.

Mention his middle name. Do it often.

Maybe the wackdoodles can do for "Hussein" what they did for "patriotism," "intelligence," "traitor," and "socialism"---render the terms meaningless through mindless recitation, robbing a word of any sting it may once have carried.

If you met a child who was given the name Timothy McVey Smith, what might come to mind?

If you met a child whose name was Chin Mao-Zedung Wong, what might you think?

If you met a child whose name was William Jerry-Falwell Anderson, are there certain conclusions that could be drawn?

If you met a child whose name was Hans Adolf H. Reinard, would it cause you to wonder?

Barak Hussein Obama. What do I think? I think that's a good Christian name, given by a Christian father to his boy, to be raised Christian. Yep, that's a pretty valid conclusion that anyone could make.

Well, now that you put it that way, sure, I can see the problem with "Hussein." I mean, what were Barack's parents thinking of, naming their newborn for an Iraqi who'd just enrolled in the Cairo University School of Law? Why, they should've been ashamed of themselves.

And TheoLiar continues to be fascinated, waiting for that brainwave to register every hour or so on the monitor he's connected to.

Barak Hussein Obama. What do I think? I think that's a good Christian name, given by a Christian father to his boy, to be raised Christian. Yep, that's a pretty valid conclusion that anyone could make.

Seeing as how his father was an atheist at the time of his conception and birth I doubt the Hussein meant anything but lending a family name.

Still you charge on ....

Hans

"The Stevens defeat sealed the deal."

I'd enjoy watching Saxby Chambliss get the heave-ho but doubt that'll happen. Still, purrrrrrty good for a days' work.

While it might warm my heart to see an Atheist take the Oath of Office on a book of his or her choice, I fail to see how a person's religious affiliation, or lack thereof, is important. As long as an individual in power does not use spiritual beliefs as justification for restricting others' freedom and liberty, his or her beliefs are irrelevant to any rational discussion of their qualifications for office. Respect for others' freedom, not belief in a specific deity, is the fundamental American principle by which we should judge our prospective candidates.

These "smears" gain their power from an implicit bias that many Americans have against Muslims. People should brush off the rumors about Obama's religion and education and express their outrage at this underlying mistrust and others' attempts to exploit it for political gain. If TheOneBS or some other nutjob posts some rambling tirade about how Obama is a Muslim, I think the proper reply should be "So what if he is? What about Islam disqualifies a Muslim from being president?" Make these people reveal their fear, hatred, and prejudice and call them out for who they truly are. I only wish Obama had the balls to do it during his campaign.

"...I fail to see how a person's religious affiliation, or lack thereof, is important."

"But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, 'He's a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.' This is not the way we should be doing it in America."

General Colin Powell's endorsement of Senator (now President-elect) Barack Hussein Obama

Hans

Well, now that you put it that way, sure, I can see the problem with "Hussein." I mean, what were Barack's parents thinking of, naming their newborn for an Iraqi who'd just enrolled in the Cairo University School of Law? Why, they should've been ashamed of themselves.

#123 | Posted by Doc_Sarvis

No dumb dumb. That is the incorrect association. But I would suggest that the Hussein who enrolled in the Cairo school has the same name association that Mr. Barak's name has.

Ask yourself: Why is the name "Hussein" a popular name? And (here's the signficant one, in case you're a little slow), did you happen to notice that it's an Arabic name...and hence a Muslim name by default?

Hmmmm, but Obama's father was Kenyan. Now what's a Kenyan doing naming his son with an Arabic name? Kenyans aren't Arabs!

No, but many of them ARE Muslim.

Ahhhhh so what! It's just a name; it doesn't mean anything.

Well, it probably doesn't mean anything in America where words and names have been dumbed down. Just look at the many names given to African American children today and see the plethora of meaningless monikers, such names as Lateesha, Loquisha, Deshawn, Oprah, Binacha, Chlorette, Cumquasha...etc. Indeed, such names are made up and have no meaning. But "Hussein" does have meaning, precisely because it is Muslim.

Naaaaaah, he's not Muslim!

Stupid, and now apparently quite drunk. Nice.

"Nope, he's not a Muslim, and we will hide everything that would indicate this to be so. Won't you close your eyes with us?"--Theo Nebs, in a muttered aside as he tries to salvage what's left of his ill-considered argument.

I love the smell of flop-sweat in the morning.

"Naaaaaah, he's not Muslim!"

Who's that? Oh, you mean President-elect Barack Hussein Obama.

And you're right, he's not a Muslim.

Very good, Theo Nebs. You get a cookie.

Hans

You know 40 Years ago Hussein meant absolutely NOTHING that it does today. To hold President Elect Obama in being Guilty by Middle Name is Laughable.

Larry

"Very good, Theo Nebs. You get a cookie."

Good - he needs something to soak up some of the booze.

THEONEBS

As you're an expert in the etymology of the name Hussein, please enlighten us.

Did you know Obama's grandfather worked for the Catholic Church his entire career?

Obama's father was a sworn atheist when Obama was conceived. Therefore, he may have been Kenyan, he may have had Hussein for his middle name, but he rebuked Islam as a teenager. Therefore he was not a Muslim. How could Obama be a Muslim?

If my father's Irish father, let's call him Paddy Francis O'Toole, made my father go to Catholic school when he was young, the name was passed down to me, but my father was atheist when I was born, that makes me Catholic? Uh, I don't think so.

renounced Islam ....

That Obama has any religious background is a negative to me, but we've had Christian Presidents in the past, and many have been terrible---much worse thatn a Muslim President could ever have been. W is a perfect example. Say Osama bin Laden had been President on 911---what could Osama have done that would have been any worse than Bush?

Obama is a Christian unfortunately---this country still clings to its Teddy Bear God out of fear of facing reality, and the quote from the bible is EX 20:3 Thou Shalt have no other Gods before me. This is from the Old Testament---which I thought had been discarded as being replaced by the New Testament---until someone wants to pick and choose verses for their own purposes.

It seems the chruch forgets about Ex 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

Jealousy is a character flaw, so God isn't perfect, and God says there are other Gods to worship--so there isn't just one God---according to God that is.

Now before some little mind throws out the--b-b-b-b-but they were talking about Money or Power as "other Gods"---no they were talking about WORSHIPPING---PRAYING to other Gods---nobody prays to money---nobody gets on their knees and asks Power to save their child from death. There is a HUGE difference between desire and worship.

The sinister meaning of Hussein... please make sure the children don't see this as it would scar them for life. If you have a weak stomach or heart please for the love of god stop reading now... OK you have been warned. The sinister meaning of Hussein is... oh god I can't hardly bring myself to type it... here goes

That's one thing they have in common with Obama. He believes in an invisible man watching over him.

Meanwhile back at the ranch and on-topic. I think it's time to revoke tax exempt status for all churches. Provide a certification path for any church that wants to apply for the exemption to earn it back. Stringent adherence to being apolitical would be the chief tenet of the certification.

I have no problem with church, practice of religion or any of the rest but politicizing the pulpit while trying to enforce those beliefs on the rest of us is Anti-Christ(ian).

I'll say it again since the content seems to have devolved to the point of whether having the middle name "Hussein" makes you this or that. Who cares? People like this preacher are manipulating fear and prejudice for political gain, and it is disgusting. They want to use bigotry to manipulate voters. They want to divide America up into polarized groups of pro-X and anti-X because radical elements are more likely to act on their beliefs and less likely to question their leaders. As a country, are we not great enough to rise above this? Are we unwilling to break the spell that these demagogues have us under?

Barack Hussein Obama, whether Muslim, Christian, Jew, Hindu, Rastafarian, Atheist, or other, should be judged on his actions, not his beliefs.

Reagan58, that is one of the smartest things I have heard in awhile.

I think it's time to revoke tax exempt status for all churches. Provide a certification path for any church that wants to apply for the exemption to earn it back. Stringent adherence to being apolitical would be the chief tenet of the certification.

As long as you do the exact same thing for ALL tax-exempt entities...

However, I suspect you wouldn't go along with that, which would reveal an obvious prejudice on your part against religious institutions.

I have no problem with church, practice of religion or any of the rest but politicizing the pulpit while trying to enforce those beliefs on the rest of us is Anti-Christ(ian)....

...And selectively targeting some tax-exempt institutions on the basis of endorsing a political viewpoint while giving others a pass is not only Anti-American, but it is also unconstitutional.

No JeffJ, I'd be more than willing to go that route. One additional thought, the entire certification process should not cost taxpayers the first dime.

Reagan,

Kudos to you for being consistant.

I disagree JeffJ. The other Tax Exempt organizations are not of a religious nature compared to Religious tax exempt ones. It all goes back to the Separation of Church and State.

Larry

I'd say that tax policy should be dramatically altered, if more of the current organizations of all stripes paid taxes, I'm betting that you and I would not need to pay so much in taxes.

I don't make the same distinction that you do Larry, tax exempt status should be earnable, not bestowed.

I have to plead some ignorance of this but in many localities don't churches and other organizations pay no property tax? That's one of my big stickers with school vouchers, not only are the intended recipients of the voucher funds not contributing to the general welfare of the public school system but the want to take more funds from the public schools.

Reagan I know in My locality Church Property is Tax Exempt. They pay no property taxes upon the Church building the parsonage and also any and all vehicles (Church buses and Church Vans) that are used for church purposes.

Larry

The other Tax Exempt organizations are not of a religious nature compared to Religious tax exempt ones

I'm no accountant but perhaps a distiction between tax exempt and non profit is in order....

In any case, 527 plans are non profit (tax status) and are 100% for political purposes.

"America we have a Muslim president. This is a sin against the Lord."

Why do these dickbags always feel the need to demonstrate they have no idea what is in the Bible? The Bible says nothing about having Christian leaders vs. non-Christian leaders.

Barack Hussein Obama, whether Muslim, Christian, Jew, Hindu, Rastafarian, Atheist, or other, should be judged on his actions, not his beliefs.

This won't happen. The truth of the matter is that a lot of people have already made up their minds about him. There's some lefties who think he can do no wrong (I voted for the guy but I'm still nowhere near that) and many righties who are already condemning his Presidency, and he hasn't even been sworn in yet!

I'd love to see people all over the political spectrum set aside their preconceptions and judge Obama based on what he does in office, but I don't think we are going to see this.

Shoulda gone with the smaller-sized sedan, you heathen...

For Theo Nebs: Just because Obama's middle name has Muslim roots doesn't mean he's Muslim. My name has strong Catholic roots (1 of the 12 apostles) and I am in no way Catholic. Our parents choose our names, not us. If you think Obama is Muslim, you'll need to find stronger evidence than his middle name (which he didn't choose) or his school.

Naaaaaah, he's not Muslim!

TRhis is one of My worst Pet Peaves. You get these Teleevangilists that go to these poor saps begging for Money declaring it's the Rightious thing to do IE give to these Minitries and these poor saps can't afford it but being Good Christians they give from their hearts to these swindlers and conartists. Just like the other day that Benny Hinn was begging on TV for money and He and Oral Roberts were together declaring if You give so much money Your sins would be paid up in full. All You had to do was make out a check send it in an envelope addressed to Debt Paid in Full. and Your sins would be forgiven. Just like Jimmy Swaggert Jimmie Bakker Pat Robertson the whole shebang of them. They are rotten to the core. Money Hungry Charlatins is what they are. Hell most of them have at least 1 private Jet to tootle around in and so many Rolls Royces while the people giving them money barely have a roof over their heads. It's a crying shame it really is. Just like that sad fuck Robert Tilton who declared if You sent Him money He would send You a prayer cloth. How fucked up is that?? They all want Your money yet they don't want to save Your soul.

Larry

Aren't you folks a little embarrassed giving this much space and attention to ravings from lunatics like Theo and TakeIt? Can you imagine adults wrangling about The President's middle name, whether his schooling included classes in religion? Can this really matter to anyone? Why? herm

Oral Roberts, not perfect, but in my estimation, he lived responsibly financially --- some luxury is fine.

Benny Hinn, I will not comment on what he preaches, but for myself I will not give to his ministry until he sold all those extra houses and cut down on too much luxuries and put all the money back into 'proper ministry'.

Pat Robertson. Jim Bakker. Jimmy Swaggart. These three are living responsibly and preaching with sincere hearts.

Robert Tilton. I think he is after money for its own sake. Sad!

Oral Roberts said if people didn't send Him I believe 8 Million Dollars God would send Him home. Oh and wasn't His church and Family in some deep hot water not too long ago??

Pat Robertson Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggert are all the same money hungry charlatins.
Oh and Pat Robertson advocated the assasination of Hugo Chavez. Not Very Christian of Him. Jim Bakker swindled Many people out of their life savings through His PTL Praise The Lord Ministry. Jimmy Swaggert (I have sinned against You Mah Lord) What utter poppycock. Oh and didn't he get busted again for that not some years later?? Bunch of shit if You ask Me.

Larry

And here's a glimpse at the (classy) person who built the website mentioned above.

www.fivethirtyeight.com

Trueblue can't find fault with the results of a poll so he attacks the author - typical.

Did you watch the video? I expected the answers from certain respondants but some of the others should have their voter registrations removed - what strike that - all of them should.

Yes, Oral Roberts went crazy with financial burden for the University, but still forgiveable and forgiven. A millionaire donated money to erase all the ORU debt on the condition that Richard Roberts (Oral's son) step down from any control, and he did.

Jim Bakker has begged forgiveness and repented and moved on. Larry is still holding on his past errors against him.

Pat Robertson got impatient with Chavez and expressed some frustration, but he has backed off and moved on. Larry is stuck with the imperfection of Pat.

Jimmy Swaggart has repented and moved on. But Larry cannot see what is going on.

When David sinned by sleeping with Bathsheba and conspired to kill her husband, God punished David but still forgave him when he repented --- and David moved on. Among others, God was unhappy because David has acted improperly and given the enemies opportunities to insult God --- "because by doing this you have made the enemies of the Lord show utter contempt...." (2 Samuel 12:14).

The weaknesses and errors of these preachers have made people like Larry, and many liberals and atheists to "show contempt for God and His preachers...."

As for God, once repented (no one can trick God with fake repentance), the past is the past: and God gives second chances for weak and imperfect humans to get up and move on.

But ah, liberals will continue to magnify the past mistakes of God's servants and refuse to acknowledge that God has forgiven them.

OOHRAH

So, reporting on the dire state of the nation is the media in Obama's pocket?

Tell me one thing that's untruthful about the financial crisis (reported by Treas Sec Paul first), Afghanistan, rising unemployment, and record foreclosures.

Blaming the messenger does not change the message.

MOOSLEMS!?!?! FUCKFUCKFUCK!

If the media is 'biased' as the right is fond of saying, explain Bush's two terms.

Network news broadcasts report on the news, they don't engage in punditry. Articles in legitimate newspapers report the news, leaving op ed to the op ed pages.

Sorry, I don't see it. I wish they were biased so the NeoCons would be good and dead once and for all.

Actually, I've no opinion on the poll (and expressed none) since I've not read/watched it (yet). I was just adding a link that I'd recently come across since it related to the website you brought up. More specifically, it is a transcript of an interview with the individual who DID the poll and HIS description of the methodology used in taking the poll in his own UNEDITED WORDS.

If THAT is attacking the author, take it up with the author ;-)!

If you believe my link/comments are a vindication of a "typical" response, I'd suggest taking that chip off your shoulder or becoming less paranoid.

The media and particulary journalism died.

They are so in the tank for Obama and the left in general--it is painfully obvious.

-----

AU forgets that CBS and Dan Rather tried to destroy Bush 55 days out from an election and the phoney documents on his NG service.

The media hates Bush and hates republicans.

The only thing going for the GOP is Fox and talk radio.

And the left and the Dems want to shut down talk radio!

Blah Blah Blah

Ya, right wing talk radio is unAmerican. They incite violence and hatred among their 9 million listeners towards a majority of Americans. Just listen to the schmucks around here who listen to them. They seem to think the bigger asshole, the more 'patriotic' ... or some shit.

Remember the guy who busted into a church a couple months away and started blowing away people? He was angry with 'liberals'. That tells me Rush, Hannity, and the other agents of intolerance and unAmerican activities. It's reaching the dangerous point.

"The only thing going for the GOP is Fox and talk radio."

So much for the idea that conservatives/Republicans/etc. are such competents.

If that's all they have/had, no wonder they're losers.

Thanks for pointing that out, McAnkles.

This church definitely needs to start paying taxes.

Then, all of the other non-profits who, as well, help people will need to pay taxes.

Leaving more people in real poverty as the government takes over trying to keep up.

You Liberals are so stupid.

Funny, I didna think it was a "liberal" issue, being a church-starting liberal myself.

I think you mean "Atheists", which believe me, come in Blue *and* Red.

This church definitely needs to start paying taxes.

Then, all of the other non-profits who, as well, help people will need to pay taxes.

Gosh, you exceed yourself with an even more stupid comment than usual. This church should definitely pay taxes because they promote a political slant--not because they help people.

"And the left and the Dems want to shut down talk radio!"

We don't want to shut down talk radio - we want to re-instate the Fairness Doctrine of 1949-1987, which provided that holders of broadcast licenses (which use bandwidth that is the property of the citizens of this nation) present a balance of opposing viewpoints on controversial social and political issues.

Of course, if the Fairness Doctrine were to be re-instated, it would become much harder for fat, dysfunctional OxyContin addicts to use our public airwaves as a bully pulpit, unregulated and unobstructed.

If that prospect angers you, tough tetons.

Pat Robertson has consistently claimed that God speaks to him and he has been dramatically wrong on a number of predictions based on what he claims God told him.

Either he is delusional or God has been lying to him to make him look bad -- of course in some eyes it might make God look bad too.

Wrong!
The church is a religious institution. To do this would be unconstitutional.

What, exactly, is unconstitutional about taxing the property of religious institutions? I realize SCOTUS upheld the tax exemption in Walz v. Tax Commission of the City of New York (1970), but it was relying on the idea of a tradition/custom. There, the Court held that the gov't can give special privileges to religon without "sponsoring, or supporting religion." But SCOTUS changes its opinion and its own composition and the society as a whole is transformed over time. So, again, what is there in the Constution of the United States that you see as exempting churches from paying taxes?

"To do this would be unconstitutional."

Bwahahahaha!

Tax exemption is not a constitutional right.

To qualify for tax-exempt status, a non-profit must meet certain criteria. Avoiding political endorsements is one of the few.

The "right" the church has is whether or not to speak out about political endorsements. The church has every right to choose to do so, even if doing so disqualifies them from tax-exempt status. But if they want to retain their preferred tax situation, they need to realize folks don't get a tax break when engaging in political speech.

Tax exempt status for religious entities violates the constitution.
The problem starts with simple recognition.
That any entity can be recognized as valid, or even superior over their contemporaries.
This would fall into the category of subversive activity, since it is an overtly public attempt of religious interference.
The constitution makes it clear that your religious beleifs are a PRIVATE matter, removed specifically from the affairs of society.

Government has no business regognizing any religious entity, under any cause. They should not even have clergy in the military. To even facilitate a gathering.

If you are incapable of ministering to yourself effectively enough to handle your situations in life, too bad, deal with the consequences.

If you can not produce your god to stand before humanity- STFU!

"Tax exempt status for religious entities violates the constitution."

It might if only ONE religious entity were allowed to qualify. As it is, there are only a few guidelines to qualify for tax-exempt status, and all religious entities have the same opportunity. One guideline, of course, is avoiding political campaigns or endorsements.

Just a question out there to those who say Obama is Muslim (including the preacher)? Have any of you actually READ the constitution? Specifically Article 6, Section 3?

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

Seems to me that it really doesn't matter whether he is or is not. Also seems to me that regardless of how many times the religious right states the USA is a Christian nation based on the bible, the Constitution does not seem to back that assertion up at all.

The Supreme Court judges might vote on whether to look into Obama's citizenship.

Also the discrepency and foreign donors to his campaign may get an investigation.

But at this point, one is not sure how far they will go.

The Supreme Court judges might vote on whether to look into Obama's citizenship.

FF.

After Carter, not so much happy. See it happenening again.

As a Republican, it is pretty embarrassing every time one of these idiots pulls something like this...however it is interesting to see this has drawn more comments than Al-Qaeda calling him a house negro.

Wow, Takitez, you are truly a wingnut among wingnuts, still harping about the ridiculous and contrived citizenship bs. Get a freaking clue already, it's not even laughable anymore, just sad.

As for religious institutions being tax free though, the issue is that many churches would not be able to afford taxes, which would amount to a pay-to-play type situation in this country. Very much unAmerican, seeing as religious freedom is what started the whole country in the first place.

But when you start fuddling around in politics, the way some churches do, I firmly agree, that tax exemption should be yanked, and quickly.

But why should *all* religions lose that status because of a few bad eggs, or because some atheist has it out for organized religion? What kind of freedom is that?

LOL, Revjack23 is shooting from the dark. The litigation to uncover Obama's citizenship at time of birth is already in for Supreme Court review. That does not mean they will decide on the case; they first have to vote 5/4 to proceed, and if no majority, then the case is rejected.

Supremes to review Barack's citizenship

A case that challenges President-elect Barack Obama's name on the 2008 election ballot citing questions over his citizenship has been scheduled for a "conference" at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Conferences are private meetings of the justices at which they review cases and decide which ones to accept for formal review. This case is set for a conference Dec. 5, just 10 days before the Electoral College is scheduled to meet to make formal the election of Obama as the nation's next president.

The Supreme Court's website listed the date for the case brought by Leo C. Donofrio against Nina Wells, the secretary of state in New Jersey, over not only Obama's name on the 2008 election ballot but those of two others, Sen. John McCain and Roger Calero.

Umm......It's not just Kansas, THERE ARE INCREDIBLY STUPID SELF RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE EVERYWHERE!

no wonder TAKITEZ has it wrong, his source is WorldNutDaily the least reliable source on the internet. This is actually a distortion initiated by the well known liar Berg. This was about a case that was dismissed, it will not be re-submitted, sorry TAKITEZ. maybe you should start looking at real news. It's amazing that no matter how wrong WND is, their followers still believe the crap.

Just today, the Andy Martin case in Hawaii failed, his suit is over and will be dismissed, what do the conspiracy people do next? Why not file charges against the State of Hawaii, last June Obama requested and the state sent a certificate which Obama posted and was later confirmed to be legitimate. As you conspiracy nuts claim it was a forgery you can file charges against Hawaii for sending fake documents, that should be your next step, You can try to prove your view after Obama has served 2 terms. Maybe Hawaii also sent fake death certificates for Elvis, add that to your charge! Good luck on that Tin Man!

TakitEz - you better pray to your God the Supreme Court doesn't invalidate another Election. Especially this one. Wow, you really have no idea what you're hoping for, do you?

Reading poor old Murphy's paranoid laments, one is almost tempted (almost!!!) to buy her notion that the media/press have it in for the poor Grand Old Party. Man, those chain newspapers, owned by corporation listed on the Big Board, really parrot the commie line. If they only turned to god ... herm

Because religion basically exists to tell people what is moral (that and explain the world) it is in the church's right to instruct it's members as to which individual they believe God wants. If this is the nature of the religion, then taxing them is to tax the religion for existing.
If you tax one religion, the government would have to tax all religions equally. Otherwise the government is making that religion "harder" to practice. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion". So to tax a church would pretty much require a uniform, equal tax on all religions. But even that would be boreder unconstitutional, as they would be putting government on religion in the first place.
Also you have to note that one church doesn't speak for an entire religion. Were the Pope to endorse McCain or Obama, you might have an argument, but one church doesn't mean that everyone agrees with them.
