Senior intelligence officers are lobbying President Bush to issue pre-emptive pardons for intelligence officers who followed his orders in the torture of terrorism suspects, according to a former CIA officer. "He gave them the green light to fight tough," the officer said. "The view of many in the intelligence community is that he should not leave them vulnerable to legal censure when he leaves."

May indicate where the orders to torture came from?

Was there ever any doubt?

I know that some people think there's going to be a massive expose' in January but I seriously doubt it.

There's lots to expose for sure and I know we're all chomping at the bit but I think we'd be better served to hold back and release the information prior to the neo-cons' run for the 2012 election.

This should prove once and for all that Dubya is a War Criminal and Should be tried at The Hague for War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity. Oh and to those that supported such a time of deep reflection is in order.

"I know that some people think there's going to be a massive expose' in January but I seriously doubt it."

Agreed. More likely what we'll see is something akin to Chinese water torture, with revelations drawn out over a long period of time. Not all of these will come from Democrats investigating the crimes and other misdeeds of the Bush Administration. There'll be plenty of raw material generated by Rightoids going into print with attempts at blame-shifting. And it's my guess that John Mitchell's talk about "the White House horrors" and fears of information getting out about the Nixon Administration's subversion of the Constitution are going to look like pretty small beer compared to what this crowd has generated.

What?! Bush will pardon himself, is that possible?

From "Slate" back in 1998, re Bill Clinton in answering the question, "Can the president really pardon himself?":

"No one knows the answer. The Constitution says that the president "shall have the power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment." This sentence, like many in the Constitution, can reasonably be interpreted in several ways. And since no court has ruled on this issue--because no president has ever tried to pardon himself--it remains an open question."

There's quite a bit more in the article. Obviously, I've no idea whether Bush is contemplating such a course of action. But if it involves chutzpah and a big "FU!" to critics, it's certainly within the continuum of his attitudes and behaviors.

I like Jim Morin's cartoon in last weeks Newsweek & Miami Herald Nov 4th issue with Cheney saying "We Didn't Get Impeached"

www.miamiherald.com

Bush doesn't need to pardon himself.

That's what the ranch in Paraguay is for.

That would be a little too obvious. Bush will get plenty of advance notice whatever happens.

You didn't have much credibility before that.
Don't trip over your sheet on the way out.

I have waited on this thread to read all the sanctamonious vomit from the left and in answer all we have to do is remind you of the famous pardons of bill clinton

and you might come back with nonsense about nixon's pardon from ford but that was to get past the shit and get the country going again....something that the left uses all the time when faced with the same shit

all I can say is I will call bush a really bad name if he doesnt pardon the two men who risked thier lives for national security and are now in jail for shooting a FUCKIN DRUG DEALER ON the border...

but Shrub said, we don't torture??????????????

don't tell me that makes him a liar??????????

pardon the two men who risked thier lives for national security and are now in jail

We'll even forgive the misspelling on this one.

Those guys should have never seen the inside of a prison cell. If I'm not mistaken Congress also has the ability to pardon them, but my, my, what about the Hispanic vote?

A pre-emptive pardon? Man, I want one of those.

This is starting to look like bad game of monopoly.

"I have waited on this thread to read all the sanctamonious vomit from the left and in answer all we have to do is remind you of the famous pardons of bill clinton"

That's pretty weak BLT, even for you.

not really......

libs here always seem to forget about blowjob billy but I wont let them.

and in addition.,..I wonder when bill will release the names of some of those donors to the clinton library and massauge parlor that we want..
and I wonder if there is a link between that issue and his pardons>>>>>>>

and I know why you made your comment

you are disappointed that I didnt make one of my famous monica references....is was just too easy so I didnt...LOL

But you just did, nimrod. LOL

How can you pardon someone for something they haven't been tried for? Wouldn't this be pretty much an admission of guilt?

ah doc

you got it

I made a reference without most of you even knowing it....what nuance
what creativity.....

I dont think it would be unless you can say the same thing about the pardon of rich from clinton.
seems logical to me that you could say it either way in each case...depends on who you support, I guess

what creativity.....

Not really.

How can you pardon someone for something they haven't been tried for? Wouldn't this be pretty much an admission of guilt?

BLT's other icon, Herbie Bush did it for the Irangate traitors, so they wouldn't have to testify against him. BLT seems to forget that Republicans are the party of treason. That's probably why pardoned traitor Poindexter ended up working for Dubya. I'm just surprised he didn't have marine mass murder Ollie North working for him, too.

I don't support anyone who gets a get out of jail free card.

northguy....I would think you would be more carefulll
I Mean you are right now the most QUOTED liberal on the
LIBERAL HYPOCRISY HISTORICAL MOMENT as it is.
I guess you are just pushing for even more publicity????? LOL

( I am not saying that you are anymore hypocritical than others by using you on the post, but that its fun to make fun of you.........LOL))))

If they didn't do anything wrong, they have nothing to fear.......

Bush cannot pardon anyone for torture becasue THE USA DOES NOT TORTURE!

ya right...

**** now it is time to undermine little black boy.Embarrass the shit out of him at every turn.
....#16 | Posted by rightnut ****

.........hung up about the black thing, huh?......

.....fact that your CIC engaged in torture, rendition, illegal wiretapping, shitting on the constitution, is ok.......but the color of the new pres is stuck in your craw.......

......what's wrong with you ?.......

BLT, it's amazing you don't die each time you go to sleep. As dumb as you are it's suprising you have the mental capacity to continue even autonomic bodily functions from one day to the next.

If Americans committed the heinous crime of torture, they should be punished under the law. It is among the most horrific acts one human can inflict on another. The notion of Bush pardoning any torturers raises images of Hitler pardoning Mengele or Eichman. Outrageous and should never be allowed. In my book, a person who commits the crime of torture on strangers at the request of his government is the lowest form of scum on Earth.

Seems like 50% of Americans think that person is a Jack Bauer style hero.

"Seems like 50% of Americans think that person is a Jack Bauer style hero."

I wonder what could have given them that idea. . .oh, wait. . .

Is it possible for an American President to pardon non-Americans? Remember, we used third-party interpreters, intelligence and "enhanced interrogation techniques" - because "we" don't torture. Also, what part of the extraordinary renditions would be exposed should he proceed with pardons? Isn't that tantamount to risking National Security?

Also, what happened to the Gitmo records? Weren't they "disappeared"? There appears to be no way out for this bunch unless they integrate the pardon process into a non-national function of the coalition.

First "Rightnut" spews the most vile racist garbage about our "little black boy" president and then BLT berates "all the sanctamonious (sic) vomit from the left." Maybe they could join Dubya in Paraguay. Houseboys or somethin'. herm

Mod sees "The notion of Bush pardoning any torturers rais(ing) images of Hitler pardoning Mengele or Eichman." Yup. Our next president said we're bigger than that. On 60 Minutes he pledged to close Guantanamo and ban torture. He did it in coherent, intelligible sentences. America has come home. herm

How about Bush pardons the soldiers from Abu Ghraib!?!?!

These soldiers (Lindsey England......etc) were only following orders from a PRIVATE CORPORATION that was contracted to extract intel from the Abu Ghraib inmates.

'Titan' and 'CACI' were two Iraq Contractors whose payments depended on the amount of Intel extracted.

These are the two Companies that had jurisdiction over the soldiers and ended up letting them take the fall. Despicable.

Here's a link regarding CACI. There are many more you can read online.

bl2: Hannity and his ilk have made the incarceration of those border guards a cause celebre. Why am I not surprised you are on that bandwagon.
What Hannity and Co. neglect to mention in all their rants is that the testimony of the drug dealer played little if any role in the conviction of those border guards. Rather, it was the testimony of other border guards who witnessed the outrageous behavior which played the main role in securing the convictions. It seems that these vigilante border guards were such low lifes that even their fellow officers lined up to present evidence against them.
But you and Hannity keep on beating that drum.

WE did not torture anyone.

Typical liberal press headline.

What stupidity bringing these Gito detainees into the US legal system. The first question out of the defense lawyers mouth will be "did you read them their right?" - No Sorry your Honor the rag headed bastard was shooting at me at the time - What a JOKE!....who is going to want these guys? Iraq will not want them back...Iran maybe, Saudi, Syria.....but knowing you idiots you probably will have them turned loose here.

You do realize that MOST of the detainees in GITMO were rounded up by people telling on others. Most of these were never rounded up as a result of combat.

Many at GITMO are their because someone said they were 'bad' while the people often doing the telling were later found out to be 'bad' themselves. It was largely based on long-standing feuds over land in Afghanistan.

"...but knowing you idiots you probably will have them turned loose here.

Into the wilds of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana

Bush "pressed" to issue blanket pardons to torturers?

Betcha if they water boarded him he'd give up those pardons PDQ.

FTA: But some in the intelligence community fear that an overhaul of the justice department could embolden those who would like a full-blown investigation of what went on at Guantanamo Bay, with charges to follow for those involved.

"Those who would like"?

Yeah, people like Spud, in fact.

Also a review of the MCA is well in order too.

That scrap of paper basically makes torture legal for the CIA to use and it needs to be shredded very quickly.

Dumbya is a War Criminal who deserves little to no respect in Spud's considered opinion.

Chickenshiat Cheney is worse cos he's the asshole who really pushed for all this shiat along with Ronald Dumbsfilled.

Be Well.

bL2: a not-so-shining example of a drunk, mediocre Texas ex-band director.

Wingnut: he....well, he is certainly living down to his moniker.

We should pardon everyone. The people in our prisons are victims of statism.

Would this pardon cover all the women on the View?
Listening to this group is torture.

Okay, so this whole thread disgusts me. We are debating over whether or not people should be pardoned for war crimes, and here are you idiots playing the fucking blame game! I don't give a crap about what Clinton or Ford did! We seem to think that this works in some sort of "well if you did it I can do it to" kind of thing! Can we please just focus on the article instead of flinging blame left and right!
The people who are "on trial" here are Bush and the men who followed his orders. Not Clinton, not Ford, not Nixon.

I do not believe any of these men should be pardoned. Following orders or not they committed a crime and they are culpable. A pardon, to me, is something a president should use when the guilty party was placed in some sort of extremely extenuating circumstance, but not when the president has placed the person in the circumstance. If he was worried about his men he should have not ordered them to act this way in the first place, thus avoiding the whole mess. I see this as a pathetic ploy to bail out his high level cronies.

BLT, it's amazing you don't die each time you go to sleep. As dumb as you are it's suprising you have the mental capacity to continue even autonomic bodily functions from one day to the next.
