Richard Cohen: If there is a single appointment Barack Obama could make to signal how dramatically things will change in Washington, it would be to name Al Gore secretary of state.

That would realy git rid of all the old guard amd bring change to DC. Cohen, take a deep breath and think about what you just said.

Al Gore could change the seal of the Secretary of State to a picture of Uncle Sam carrying a white flag and the earth burning up due to global warming.

I'm a big fan of Al Gore and even I don't think that's a great idea. Cohen?? Leonard?

Gore should have no place in American politics.

I think Cohen's idea is off.

Obama needs no marquis names in his cabinet to send messages for him. The revolutionary thing for him to do is to find really bright experts who are exceptionally qualified in their areas of expertise, much as Lincoln picked when he formed his first cabinet.

Gore may be exceptional, but he's a bit of a stale wind. And his intellectual credentials aren't on par with Obama's.

Hm, I must be missing something here. I'm not a huge Gore fan, but if we wanted to get serious about this climate change thing, it may not be a bad idea to give him a spot somewhere where he can get something done.

Al Gore? C'mon-the greatest snake oil salesman who ever walked. Man Made Global Warming-is it real? Is it a sham? It doesn't matter because this C+ student who never took another science class past high school has made millions off of the concept.

What an utter moron making a moronic comment. We need change from what occurred in the last 16 years, not just the last 8.

Oh and how would he de-invest himself from his cap and trade conflict of interests? Give back the nobel prize? Give up his movie rights, drop his connection to hedge funds, and sell (at a huge profit) his cap and trade business?

Maybe he could hire lawyers to sue America's businesses for admitting....CO2!! How dare they?

"C+ student"

Al Gore would have been happy with that grade when he flunked out of Vanderbilt.

I'm not a huge Gore fan, but if we wanted to get serious about this climate change thing, it may not be a bad idea to give him a spot somewhere where he can get something done.

Send him to the polar ice cap for 3 years and report back on the 4th.

Gore Sect of State??? He is a mentally disturbed person. It is clear as day.

If 0bama gives Gore any position whatsoever in his administration in the spirit of "reaching across the aisle" he should put Wayne LaPierre of the NRA in charge of the ATF.

P.S. I'm serious.

What would you be saying if Hillary Clinton had just been elected? (any Democrat....?)

Obama can name who he wants to be Secretary of State, and the reps will STFU and like it. Obama has a mandate, and Gore would be an excellent choice for America. If there is going to be any reaching across the aisle, the reps better get started. America doesn't want to hear a lot or republican bullshit. 2010 isn't far off, and there are lots more reps to boot out of Washington.

...the reps will STFU and like it

Oh, bOoB -- you're so forceful . . .so manly.

I think Al Gore has made himself clear, he does not want a Cabinet position. Secondly, we do not need a Sec. of State who is focused on only one issue and Al Gore is focused on Global Warming and that is a good thing. I doubt seriously that President Obama will tap him for Sec. of State.
I hope he chooses a career diplomat who already knows most world leaders and who is familiar with the various situations around the world.

Can't do it. The post has been filled. Gore doesn't think like Dumbo. He is going to tap a like minded individual with lots of foreign policy experience. Remember, Dumbo was going to follow Osama in his cave? The offer of the position of Secretary of State was slated to follow our final surrender.

"The post has been filled."

By who?
Oh, right, you don't know.
Quelle sooprise.

Doc,

Since you obviously missed the implication of the post...let me spell it out to you. The new Secretary of State, and like minded individual, will be of Saudi decent and is currently believed to be hiding in a cave. The problem is, we can't offer him the position until we have surrendered...wouldn't want to have a conflict of interest so soon...

And the "implication" of that post, you write, is: "The new Secretary of State, and like minded individual, will be of Saudi decent and is currently believed to be hiding in a cave. The problem is, we can't offer him the position until we have surrendered...wouldn't want to have a conflict of interest so soon..."

You can read that into your earlier post?

Are you a Kabalist?

Algore would be great as Secretary of State: Like Warren Christopher with less personality

He's 1/2 man, 1/2 bear, 1/2 pig

wow....first we hear it might kerry and now it might be gore.
are there any TWO bigger losers in the democrat circle than these two?

Oh God, help us if Al Gore gets that close to the White House again... He shouldn't have won the Nobel Peace prize for "An Inconvienant Truth" but the Pulitzer for fiction.... Everyone I know in the Meteorology/Climate/
Atmospheric Science realm laughs at him and his "Truth"....

carefull k8

that kind of talk is heresy around here.

algore was REALLY elected in 2000 dont you know
even though the three networks who were able to count the votes he wanted counted and they ALL CAME OUT WITH the same result...bush won florida

AN INCOVIENENT TRUTH that libs here dont want to even talk about

SHIT That was clever wasnt it.......making that point with his own title.

sometimes I even amaze myself

BUSHLOVERTWO, point taken...

Sorry, I'm not big on making Al Gore a part of this administration. I don't doubt that global warming is a problem but making Gore official would alienate more people than would a reasonable policy. Gore may be more suited stying in the private secton and breaking everybody's balls.

wow....first we hear it might kerry and now it might be gore.

Loh and behold, gotta agree with you on this one.

Seriously Gore is now officially "off the reservation" just like Bubba in regards to being a politician. the SecState implements policy, not creates it. Gore is way to much of a tech evangelist at this point to be able to stick to anyone else's policy but his own. Kerry is in the same boat for different but similar reasons.

Cohen just didn't have anything better to write about and said this only for the attention getting purposes
