John McCain will go to Georgia to campaign for Sen. Saxby Chambliss, the Republican senator elected six years ago with harsh attacks on disabled Vietnam vet Max Cleland. Chambliss faces a Dec. 2 runoff in his bid for re-election to that seat.

If Saxby were smart he would say "Thanks but no thanks loser."

I don't know 726, it's Georgia, a red state. I think they like the loser McCain down there.

Might we see John and George in public together for the first time since 2004? I expect a post-Obama crowd for the re-vote which would give it to Chambliss.
John may be torpedoing his last chance for a decent posting by Obama.

I guess the Republicans are so desperate that John McCain will even go try to help this POS. I remember when John McCain had my respect and that of many Dems, he seems to want to destroy what little he has left of it.

Chambliss can help Ted Stevens finish building the Bridge to Nowhere.

Danni,

This campaign has shown one thing perfectly clear.... that he pull the eject lever on his morals a long time ago.

Maybe Chambliss can say the same things about McCain he did about Cleland.

The only thing anyone needs to know about Saxby Chambliss is that in 2002 he ran an election ad that changed his opponent's face into the face of Osama Bin Laden. Bad enough in itself but his opponent, Max Cleland, had left three of his limbs behind in Vietnam in the 1960's fighting for his country while Chambliss took five student deferments.

The patriotic feeding frenzy going on in 2002 to get Bush his war allowed this despicable American to win his Senate seat. Georgia has now been given a third chance to dump him. America will be a better place if they take it.

"I would go campaign for Senator Saxaphone too, but I'm afraid the Russians would use this as an excuse to invade Georgia again, also."

Saint sarah

I hope McThusaleh's endorsement torpedoes Chambliss's political career for all time. Saxby Chambliss is exactly what Georgia does not need, a "good ol' boy" who does no one any good but himself. His campaign against Cleland was despicable, and his campaign against Jim Martin just as bad.

Come on down, John. You'll help us turn this place back into a blue state yet.

I think the Dems should make McCain an honorary member, or give him an award or something.

He just keeps fighting for the left!

Obama has to have some unspent warchest, right? As a donor, I'd rather it go into this race and the possible Alaska special election than into an inaugural ball. Possible?

Money for the Inaugural Ball is raised privately.

The excess campaign money can be kept in an account for his reelection, they can donate to other campaigns (but, only under the same limitations everyone has), give it to the DNC, among others.

Kind of puts McSame's wonderful au revoir speech into perspective, dunnit? The man is a souless hack.

If Mccain had ONE ounce of integrity, he would go and pound the shit out of this lying, soulless, disgusting traitor and then piss on the open wounds.

It's amazing how such scum is revered by the right.

Not so amazing, actually.

Fuck Saxby Chambliss with a red-hot spicy boner

I will vote against him, but i'm afraid it won't do any good....for most people, the elections are over. Hell, people I know still aren't convinced he's not Muslim....

Obama I mean....

BlueInBushland your an uninformed dumb ass. Why don't you STFU

Cleland voted 11 times against a homeland-security bill that would have given President Bush the freedom from union strictures that he wanted in order to set up the new department. The bill was co-sponsored by his Georgia colleague Sen. Zell Miller, a fellow Democrat. Bush discussed details of the bill personally with Cleland, and Chambliss wrote him a letter prior to running his ad urging him to support the Bush version. Cleland still opposed it, setting himself up for the charge that he was voting with liberals and the public-employees unions against Bush and Georgia common sense.

If you can't criticize the Senate votes of a senator in a Senate race, what can you criticize? Throughout the race, Cleland tried to hide behind the idea that his patriotism was being questioned. A columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted in June of 2002 that "this 'how-dare-you-attack-my-
patriotism' ploy, replete with feigned outrage...is a device to put Cleland's voting records off-limits." It didn't work. Chambliss won the crucial endorsement of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, which made its nod on the basis of the two candidates' differing records on national-security and veterans issues. The VFW wouldn't have been complicit in a gutter campaign based on smearing a Vietnam veteran.

Another theme in the "Cleland was done dirty" argument is that a racist backlash against a proposed change to the Georgia state flag to de-emphasize a Confederate symbol helped sink him. But the issue didn't feature much at all in the Senate race. Chambliss sidestepped it. And in 2002, supposedly racist Georgian voters re-elected a black attorney general and a black labor commissioner while Cleland was losing.

Cleland's undoing was that he couldn't negotiate the dilemma facing many Southern Democrats how to vote liberal in Washington while appearing conservative at home. The Democrat was on record supporting countless tax increases, and voted with his party's leadership against protecting the Boy Scouts from a campaign to keep them out of public schools and against banning partial-birth abortion. In many of these votes, he parted ways with his more conservative and popular colleague Miller, thus creating a major political vulnerability. He lost fair and square.

Say what you will, but Saxby Shameless is still a dick for questioning a triple amputees patriotism!

I don't care what Chambliss did or didn't do as a Senator. I care about what he did to become one.

You can spin yourself dizzy, Slick. It won't alter the facts of that election campaign. The Republicans have lost the last two elections for many reasons, one of them is that the cynical and divisive opportunism that came to define them became ever clearer to decent Americans no matter what party they supported. Chambliss may yet win, if he does that's Georgia's problem, not mine.

It's all pathetic.

Mc will do ANYTHING to prop up a piece of shit.

He will even hug that piece of shit and even kiss the shit.

he will do and say anything for Cain to society's Abel. Early stage Alztheimer's obviously. Sad to say.
I sure am glad he wasn't elected.

Yeah, just what Senator Chambliss needs -- the guy who just lost the Presidential election for his own party to now come and campaign for him. Hah!

Say what you will, but Saxby Shameless is still a dick for questioning a triple amputees patriotism!

BlueInBushland you need to read the quotes from the liberal rag AJC...
A columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted in June of 2002 that "this 'how-dare-you-attack-my-

No one attacked his patriotism. No one questioned his service. Cleland lost because he was following a liberal agenda. He made a decision to vote against the president when the president was very popular.

Chambless will win the run off. Why? Because the welfare crowd and the leftwing loons got their guy in and have not further interest in the election. The blacks could care less about Martin, Chambless' opponent. Bush is pretty disliked in GA, where I live, but OBama scared the crap out of them. The knowledge voters will go to the polls to prevent Obama getting a filibuster proof congress.

Cleland lost to Chambless because he did a terrible job. He was incompetent when he was in the GA state govt., he was very poor on constituent services and he was a lap dog to Clinton, who was very disliked in GA. That is why he lost.
