Antonio Torres, a 19-year-old in Arizona who was left comatose and connected to a ventilator after an auto accident, was deported from the U.S. in that condition and then saved after his parents found a hospital in California willing to take him back. "In Arizona, apparently, they see us as beasts of burden that can be dumped back over the border when we have outlived our usefulness," said his father Jesus Torres. "But we outwitted them."

Obama's aunt is saved too from deportation.

"In Arizona, apparently, they see us as beasts of burden that can be dumped back over the border when we have outlived our usefulness," said his father Jesus Torres. "But we outwitted them."

Now, I dont condone sending him back in a coma, but he needs to go back to his home country to take care of him. Shit, we cant take every comatose person in every shithole of a country.

Compassion like that displayed by Boaz is the reason Obama won by a landslide.

Land of the Free.......Loaders!

Hopefully lots of Mexicans will be coming to the US now that Obama has been elected, and moving in next door to ACLUSUX, - blasting loud 'banda' music at all hours of the day and night, and urinating on his roses.

Sorry the guy had an auto accident but how many illegals can we give free health care to in California -- one of the main reasons this state is going broke. More than 80 hospitals in L.A. County alone have shut their doors for good in only the last five years because all the illegals getting free health care has bankrupted them.

True story -- I have a friend who lives in the Northwest. Two weeks ago he had to go to the emergency room due to severe chest pains which at the time he was afraid might be a heart attack. About three months ago he had been downsized from his job of 13 years because his company was in the business of sales of goods used in the housing industry and business was bad. He also had no health insurance. He was hoping to get another job soon and be able to get on the new employer's health plan as private insurance is very expensive. His one day at the emergency room two weeks ago will cost him $2500. The hospital said they will allow him to make payments but he still must pay the full amount. Yet if he were an illegal alien he never would have received a bill from the hospital emergency room at all.

In the hospitals, illegal aliens are all assigned one, generic "ID" number and their medical bills are written off by the hospital. To make up for their free health care, the rest of us pay higher health insurance premiums and higher costs at the hosptials and in doctors' fees. The money has to come from somewhere.

The Feds do not pay CA, AZ, TX, NV and other states hard hit by illegal alien health care costs when the states put in a request to the Feds for money to make up for what those states have to spend on illegal alien medical care. Illegals don't pay one cent yet my friend, a taxpaying American citizen, has to pay full price at a time when money is very tight for him.

So I say to everyone on here, the open border radicals who want all the illegals to be able to come here and for us give them free health care (and every other benefit they want) to now take up a donation for my friend until you've got $2500 so he can pay off his emergency room bill. Or do you think my friend, an American citizen, is less deserving of financial help for his $2500 medical bill than an illegal alien who also needed medical care.

The Mexican consulate even has advice for those illegals how to access California health care for free.

The repubs get punished by Latino votes for expressing patriotism. It goes to show that many Latinos are not issue voters (abortion, despite being Catholics) but are benefit voters: benefits for illegal aliens who share their country of origins or who could be their relatives.

That said, my idea is to secure the borders very tight and find a way for those who are already here and languishing with slim hopes for turning legal some day.

Compassion like that displayed by Boaz is the reason Obama won by a landslide.

Obama is no fool. He knows if he passes amnesty and the "family reunification" clause demanded in the amnesty bill which will then allow millions of those illegal aliens' family members from all over the third world into the U.S. at a time when millions of American CITIZENS are losing their own jobs Obama will be a one term only President. You can take it to the bank.

Obama is not a "we welcome in the entire world" ideologist -- he's a political opportunist and a smart one. Good. Nothing wrong with being an opportunist because that's what you have to be in order to make it as a smart politician.

Being no fool, Obama's not about to now open our borders to more millions of illegal aliens when millions of Americans are losing their jobs, are seeing illegal aliens get free health care while they have to pay high health insurance premiums they can't afford, and states are begging for more money simply to make the trains run on time.

Another goddamn illegal ailing.

I agree that Obama is unlikely to grant a path to legal status for most illegals in the country currently. But I also doubt he will be taking any significant action to deport people already here. In the mean time, since nothing is gonna be changing in the next several years in any case, I might as well take what pleasure can in the xenophobic hatred of my fellow citizens.

Another goddamn illegal ailing.

LOL & FF

And now all of the comatose Mexicans will know they can come here too...

Why in the world would you link to a story that requires registration?

I am not going give the NY times my email so they spam the hell out me.

RCADE do you a kickback for driving NYTIMES registrations?

Why not post a a longer excerpt so we all see what it says?

Cynic wasn't around for the AP (of which the NY Times is a member) lawsuit against the retort I guess. Register at the times and then block their emails... jeez. How much of a lazy computer user can you be?

xenophobia is the only possible reason to have a problem with this issue? As a lawyer, you should know better.

Mr. Torres was comatose and connected to a ventilator. He was also a legal immigrant whose family lives and works in the purple alfalfa fields of this southwestern town

Because he was a legal immigrant, I think he should have been allowed to stay (which ultimately happened) for medical care. Ultimately, I believe it is the responsibility of the company that sponsored him to work in the US and the Mexican government to pay for his medical bills.

Sponsored? LOL, right. It's an interesting suggestion though... that will never see the light of day.

"In Arizona, apparently, they see us as beasts of burden that can be dumped back over the border when we have outlived our usefulness,"

NO! In AZ we see you as illegal ailians and a large drain on our overtaxed welfare system. Does anyone realize how much it cost a hospital to provide free care for all the illegals that use the emergency rooms as their primary healthecare? Does anyone know who pays for that? Clue, everyone that uses that hospital and pays their bill either out of their pocket or with insurance.

I just about forgot. The state of Califirnia is going bankrupt and they are asking the US government to bail them out. So If you pay takes in the US I guess you will be paying for all thea FREE healthcare too.

The article stated that we was a legal immigrant.

Presumably, an employer signed off on paperwork verifying for the feds that he had a purpose to be in the country. It seems reasonable that his employer would ultimately be responsible for predictable consequences of their use of foreign labor; ie, if you hire enough people, in all likelihood some will become sick or injured at some point. If they have no practical method of returning to their country of origin for treatment, then their employer should be responsible costs incurred.

I see absolutely no reason that the US taxpayer should foot the bill because corporations in the US want to use cheap labor from abroad. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

I think that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce should be presented with the bill for all expenses that the government incurs due to illegal immigration. All groups which cooperated with them should share the bills. Any business which employs illegals should be audited and billed for the expenses of their employees.

No employer is legally and knowingly employing illegal aliens. they'll argue that if they get documentation stating a person is eligible to work in the us, that scrutinizing that documentation for authenticity would make them defacto INS agents. therefore, holding these employers responsible for paying healthcare expenses is an undue burden. watch. that's exactly how it will go down.

Immigration is a no-win situation for any pol, so don't expect anything to be done about it. Notice its non-issue status during the campaign.

The latino vote doesn't recognize the nation's sovereign right to control its borders, so democrats won't go for it, while the employer class won't give up its cheap labor, so repbulicans won't go for it.

"No employer is legally and knowingly employing illegal aliens."

That is nonsense. Many employers know full well they are hiring illegals though they probably will try to use the excuse you mention.

The thing is that you can't prove that they know this in a court of law. If its not demonstrably true in a court of law, its legally untrue.

My, my look at the responses of the white trash of America here. All of you descended from white trash immigrants who were given charity by the USA.

This country was founded on taking in immigrants and supporting them.

This gentleman was a LEGAL immigrant who pays income taxes. Pays social security taxes. Pays medicare.

That means he is entitled to medical services in the US.

Acutally my uneducated zenophobic white trash fucktards anyone who is in the US illegal or not is entitled to emergency medical care as a result of international agreements.

If any of you mouth breathers ventured outside of the US how would you feel if you broke a leg and instead of given hospital care were shipped back home to the US?

Real bunch of sociopathic white trash we have on the forum here.

Many employers know full well they are hiring illegals though they probably will try to use the excuse you mention.

One of our clients was sued recently for doubting the papers of a hispanic woman illustrating her to be here legally.

this woman successfully sued the employer for attempting to determine the validity of her papers.

Chris,
I believe you friend could have done one of two things: 1) sign up for emergency medi-cal since he was unemployed (this is how hospitals get PAID for undocumented patients and that is why they get a generic ID Number, it is a medi-cal number) or 2) negotiated a cash rate with the hospital to lower his overall expense (could save up to 30% but most people do not know they can negotiate a cash price).

I am in the insurance industry and have helped my clients do both so I know it is available but your friend could have had different issues.

Just a thought

Okay everyone lets play what if?

What if an undocumented worker contacted Drug Resistant TB and walked around Los Angeles for days exposing people because he knew if he went to a hospital he would be deported. So, after two weeks and exposing hundreds of people who will infect hundreds more he is found unconscious and taken to the hospital where his story unfolds.

What would be the sane answer to this story?

What would be the sane answer to this story?

shoot him

:-(

Too late he is already dead.

The next question is "were you also infected?"

and if infected, what would be the cause:

an "illegal who refused to get care."

or

Would you be a victim of immigration law.

If any of you ventured outside of the US how would you feel if you broke a leg and instead of given hospital care were shipped back home to the US?

Well, with the state of most health care facilities around the world, I'd like to be shipped back to the good ol' US of A please!

Torres did NOT have insurance so a hospital and all of its nurses, doctors and stafff had to work for FREE on him.

Imagine if you libs on this message board had to work for free! Doctors and nurses don't have mortgages, car payments and utility bills? Libs cry in support of $30/hr union workers wanting more benefits yet companies and workers in the health care sector have to sacrifice and work for free on illegal uninsured imigrants all the time. Illegal immigrants rack up a staggering sum in bills and then libs cry again when health insurance is so expensive. Just amazes me.

UTASTAFF - not one of the people working on Torres lost a penny.

The exact same thing would happen if a two year old American child came to an ER without insurance.

Should the Hospital not work on anyone who does not have insurance? The cost burdens are still the same.

See my post #28.

If I were there past the duration of my visitor visa, I'd guess I was taking a pretty big gamble.

Having finally read the article, I'd have to say that this kid had every reason to be treated in a US hospital. When he defaulted on his hospital bills, he could declare bankruptcy just like anyone else in his situation.

This guest worker b.s. is only contributing to the problem though, and not allowing us to address the real issue, i.e. why t.f. can't this nation feed its citizens without using "guest workers" who are working a step above slave wages.

Most of the working Mexicans are good workers willing to work hard at their jobs, and not complaining. It's just that they generally lack skills that enable them to secure more remunerative employment.

The gangbangers contributed to the murder rate of some what, some 17 just killed in L.A. It's more dangerous than being a combatant in a war zone.

The die is cast. Deportation of illegal aliens at this point would be catastrophic.

Some 50% of the school teachers would need to be laid off, some 50% of the prison guards would need to be laid off. The revenues of reailers would decline some 30%, and there would be massive layoffs and bankruptcies there. There would be a huge number of home foreclosures. And those owning rental housing would default because of lack of tenants and consequent reduced revenue. The bank and S&L situation would be far worse than it is now.

The fecundity rate of illegal aliens, and Hispanics in general, is so much higher than that of the other populations, and they eschew abortion, so that their influence as a growing percentage of the population will continue to increase. They will totally politically control California by 2020. Demographics will determine the course of history.

Chris. Move to Idaho. It's your only sanctuary. Those who dismiss the situation as not a problem, will nevertheless suffer the consequences unless they avoid it by dying of old age first. We're going to political Hell in a handbasket. Doomed.

... why t.f. can't this nation feed its citizens without using "guest workers" who are working a step above slave wages.

Because we have superfluous people. The welfare system is supporting those Americans who formerly had these jobs, but now "know their rights."

These are rights in addition to those read to them when they're arrested. Not only the right to remain silent and to an attorney at government expense, but the right to welfare payments and a whole array of preferences. They want "a man's job" with "a man's wages" without being willing or possibly being able to acquire "a man's skills."

Bread and circuses, and voting as the basis for securing support from corrupt political machines. These conceal their actual function behind deceptive words and phrases of "caring for the children," and what have you, when the message is support from the welfare state. Indigents in America drive cars, have TV sets, music systems, and the like. Of course, if the situation continues to decline, then other Americans may have the opportunity to enjoy living as welfare recipients. The market is going down again today in the U.S. The Russian market is down 70%. The Chinese and Japanese markets were up.

He was just having a coma that Americans didn't want.
