The final Gallup 2008 pre-election poll -- based on Oct. 31-Nov. 2 Gallup Poll Daily tracking -- shows Barack Obama with a 53% to 42% advantage over John McCain among likely voters. When undecided voters are allocated proportionately to the two candidates to better approximate the actual vote, the estimate becomes 55% for Obama to 44% for McCain.

That'd be double digits, folks.

"McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate doesn't appear to be wearing well with most Americans. In the poll, 45% of registered voters rated the choice as "poor" and another 18% said it was "only fair," while 19% called it "pretty good" and 16% excellent."

" McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate doesn't appear to be wearing well with most Americans. In the poll, 45% of registered voters rated the choice as "poor" and another 18% said it was "only fair," while 19% called it "pretty good" and 16% excellent.

Those are much more negative ratings than in a USA TODAY survey taken just after the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Then, 60% called the pick of Palin excellent or good; 38% said it was "only fair" or poor.

In contrast, assessments of Barack Obama's choice of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden remain positive. Now, 60% call Obama's choice excellent or "pretty good," while 38% say it was "only fair" or poor. In early September, the divide was 63%-33%.

Biden has a favorable-unfavorable rating of 53%-32%. Palin has a favorable-unfavorable rating of 42%-49%.

One more historic tidbit from the survey: Obama's favorable rating is 62% -- the highest that any presidential candidate has registered in Gallup's final pre-election polls going back to 1992."

Of course, MurphyJeffJNancTakitez will disagree, but it was obvious that Palin would be a disaster, as predicted by some of us here.

Further down in the article: Zogby: One day is not a trend; Obama's lead holds: Yesterday, pollster John Zogby wondered if -- based on one-day's worth of his polling -- Republican presidential nominee John McCain might be closing the gap between himself and Democrat Barack Obama. Today, Zogby says, "one day is not a trend." Obama's lead is steady. He's got Obama ahead among likely voters 50%-44%.

States Bush won in 2004
State Obama McCain Diff
Iowa 53 40 13
New Mexico 52 44 8
Colorado 51 44 7
Nevada 50 44 6
Ohio 49 44 5
Virginia 50 45 5
Florida 49 45 4
North Carolina 48 46 2

Here is a thought for the conservatives out there. If Obama wins, it may not be the end of the US as we know it. Here is why I say this.

First Obama is smart and pragmatic. Most would recognize that he is smart. Look at the campaign he ran. Look how he manipulated the press. He is also pragmatic, look how he moved to the middle to win the election.

His smartness will keep him from implementing most of the crazy stuff the far left wants. Because he knows that while talking about those to people in SF and NY will get him elected, they just will not work.

For example, this from an article in Newsweek.

"Finally, there's energy. Despite their recent drop, oil prices at about $65 a barrel remain well above the $29 average of 2003. Combating global warming would also raise prices. Many Americans imagine that greenhouse gases can be cut painlessly, just order companies to do it. This is a fantasy."
Newsweek

Next he is pragmatic. He will want to be elected again in 2012. If he follows these losing policies, he will plung the US further into a recession and the same tactics that he used against McCain (You want 4 mor years of *this*?) will work against him.

So while the left will howl, he will do the smart thing and try to make sure that he gets re-elected.

Polls say a lot, but what matters in the end is voter turnout. If the young voters that the Obama campaign has been focusing on motivating head in droves to the polls, I think Obama will win handily. If they don't, the results are going to be a lot closer. There's no way for us to know what'll happen with that until tomorrow night.

At any rate, we'll start finding out about 36 hours from now.

His smartness will keep him from implementing most of the crazy stuff the far left wants. Because he knows that while talking about those to people in SF and NY will get him elected, they just will not work.

Exactly. He will be prevented from doing many things the right is afraid of. All pols have to win their party's nomination by talking to the extreme wacko segment of their party. Of course, they will lie to them and tell them what they want to hear to get their support.......and then run like hell!!!!!

After Obama takes his first Presidential shit in the white house he will decide he wants to stay for 8 years instead of 4. He is forced to turn around the economy so he can take credit for it.

"If Obama wins, it may not be the end of the US as we know it."

Er...you may not realize it yet but Bush has already destroyed America as we have known it. The question is can Obama rebuild it.

Er...you may not realize it yet but Bush has already destroyed America as we have known it.

He has damaged it. Not destroyed it.

Goddam you are a "glass is half empty" person Danni.

Are you this way in your personal/professional life? If you are then I suspect many people can't stand you.

Our country was nearly destroyed - couldn't have been any closer than it is right now, thanks to Bush. I am looking forward to President Obama showing the world that the USA is a country to be respected again - instead of the laughing stock it now is. Tomorrow will be a new day and there is hope for the future! Vote for Obama! I did.

IBD-TIPP, the most accurate poll in 2004, has McCain down but within margin of errors. newsmax.com

Whereas in the only contest that really counts, it's:

Obama 65.6%
McCain 34.4%

electoral-vote.com

"within margin of errors"

That would be east of the swamp of lies, south of the plain of insecurities, west of the gulf of uncertainties, and north of forest of beatitudes.

"Goddam you are a "glass is half empty" person Danni."

If that were even half true I would just assume that the rebuilding or our economy is impossible which many do, instead I leave it as an open question to be answered by President Obama over the next few years.

If I was one of the people here who was confident McCain would win, I'd buy shares of a McCain win on Intrade ...

www.intrade.com

... where he's currently at 10.2, so a $10.20 bet pays $100.

That does it. I'm not going to vote tuesday. It's over and danni is singing.

So while the left will howl, he will do the smart thing and try to make sure that he gets re-elected.

so what you are saying is that he was just kidding when he told the people in san fran that his coal plan would make electricity prices skyrocket and if plants were to stay open they would have to retool and PASS THE EXPENSE ALONG TO THE CONSUMER...........

those kinds of middle of the road programs

I dont think so

and cutting defense budget 25 % WHEN IRAN is threatening the existence of israel and getting a nuke

you mean those issues that wont really matter?????

So while the left will howl, he will do the smart thing and try to make sure that he gets re-elected.

Bill Kristol, neo-con and Mcadaver's biggest fan in 2000 calls Obama a liberal centrist.

Face it kiddies, with the economy in the tank thanks to Dubya, lot's of things ain't happening in the first term of either nominee. The war in Iraq is over, no matter who wins-unless Cindi and halliburton are willing to fund it-NATO's newest members are gonna have to buy more of their own toys and the Pentagon is going to be into a "rebuilding" to get rid of the overlap and pet projects. GHG reductions will be rolled into renewable energy job creation projects and lots of bridges won't be built to nowhere.

Look for the GOP to even it out by owning the voting machines, disenfranchisements and the high court. Jebbie and the Diebolds are not nearly throughherm

will TAKITEZ tell us what newsmax says after Obama is elected? newsmax, one of the least reliable news sites on the web but TAKITEZ will continue to trust them and WorldNutDaily, how sad.

Er...you may not realize it yet but Bush has already destroyed America as we have known it. The question is can Obama rebuild it.

And that is just the sort of unnecessary knife twisting that unifies opposing parties at rallies. Seeing how you are so close to your goal of an Obama presidency, my impartial advice to you, Danni, is to cool it with the "God damn America" talk for 2 days. Even if you "didn't mean it like that", "that" is exactly how "they" are going to take it. Got it?

"He (Bush) has damaged it (he U.S.). Not destroyed it. "

He has essentially destroyed anything that makes a nation great. He is finishing the job by deregulating what's left. Obama must rebuild from the ground up, more than FDR did in '33. herm

Herm, don't you think you're being a TAD bit dramatic?

He's just going to be our president, not some kind of savior from heaven. The idea that he must "rebuild" the country is about as over-generalized as sentiments come. I think what you meant was that he'll need to build the nation's pride back up in a unified way. We are a divided and dysfunctional nation...NOT a broken nation.

I was curious... Joe Lieberman seems to follow John McCain around to all his campaign venues.

He he McCain's official ass wiper after he takes a dump?
