Despite his felony conviction this week for filing false U.S. Senate financial disclosure forms, Republican Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska insisted he was innocent and vowed not to step down. "I have not been convicted of anything," he maintained during a Thursday night debate in Anchorage.

What is it with Republicans and reality?

Reality is not their friend.
It bites them in the ass every time.....

Sounds like a Monty Python skit.

Judge: You've been Convicted..

Stevens: No I'm not.

Judge: It says right here..

Stevens: No it doesn't.

Judge: The jury said you were guilty.

Stevens: No they didn't.

Judge: The record shows you were found guilty.

Stevens: No it doesn't.

Judge: Let's just flip a coin, ok? call it

Stevens: Tails

Judge: Tails, aha, see, you're still guilty.

Stevens: I said heads.

Judge: no you didn't

Stevens: Flip you for it?

Judge: Bailiff! Get this man fitted for.........the comfy chair!

All, gasping: The comfy chair??????????????????

Some folks don't know when to stop. Poke it with a fork--Stevens is done.

Hey how can a convicted felon run for US Senate?? Isn't there a Law against that?? I so then don't they have to drop Ted Steven's name from the ballot?? Just curious.

Larry

One thing I have to tip my hat to Stevens for...

He has some MASSIVE brass balls.

In fact-it's surprising he can even walk...

It ain't brass balls it's a lack of cranial matter and a electrical impulse stimulator cross wire. You know when You are in denial You will say anything contrary to the truth. It's the Bush Effect.

Larry

GOPSOP

Why shouldn't he be allowed to run for office, hold the people's trust, and represent honest Americans.

He did nothing dishonorable to deny him such an opportunity.

Signed,

Alcee Hastings

Brass !...I myself would have to say steel.
steel balls...not a good thing to have in Alaska in January!

It just depends upon what the meaning of the word "is" is.

Pot, meet kettle.

"It just depends upon what the meaning of the word "is" is."

Is is is.

Duh.

Fucking lawyers.

"The report that came out also was very clear in that there was no unethical or unlawful behavior on my part. No abuse of power there at all." - Sarah Palin

"Finding Number One: For reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act." - The actual report

What a state.

Another greedy politican caught with his pants down and money sticking in his hole.

Hes not trying to steal a presidency like Nobama.

That's no surprise-his apprentice Saint sarah was telling people the biparitsan report cleared her of ethics violations when it said the opposite.

Republican politicians know their supporters aren't all that bright and are pretty gullible.

You were ABSOLUTELY CONVICTED!

You could ask the same about vampires and garlic.

commonsense - It should be pointed out that Stevens was actually a US Attorney at one point in his career (before Alaska was even a state, actually). He's not ignorant of the law, just self-important.

There is no final judgment although observing the charges and findings from a distance, the merit necessary to sustain a successful appeal does not appear to be present.

This reminds me of a case where a mafioso was arrested boosting a $30 tie at an airport, and was found to have some $20,000 on his person. I suppose that these politicians also become so conditioned to engaging in activity, "receiving benefits," that it doesn't even occur to them that it's illegal, or that there might be adverse consequences for their behavior. For the politicians, entitlements seem to begin at home.

But who knows what the basis for an appeal might be.

Basis for an apeal. My wife did it and didn't tell Me about it. I am sorry that My wife is so secretive but it's not My fault She is this way. I can not control what My wife does nor should be responsible for Her actions regarding the matter. Just a hunch.

Larry

Wife? please explain.

Ted Stevens blamed His wife for this whole mess. THAT is what Rex

Gotcha, Stevens was all messed up....fess up, and live with it...that's what I always say.

Bwahahahaha!

Want to talk Danny?

when he is rotting in prison what will he claim?

Fuck Stevens, flush..bye bye

"Stevens falsely claims he wasn't convicted"

.......idiot... can't even spell Democrat........

......Ozzie......it's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a crooked, retarded, Republican....than to open it and remove all doubt........

He's following the Sarah Palin strategy. Simply,
thank the judge and jury for exonerating him. Maybe Nixon should have tried this in '74. He could have thanked the House Judiciary Committee for clearing his name and moved on.

Good God, Ozzie.
When you finally get that GED, come back and visit.

and I am reminded that he has not been found guilty of ANYTHING Except in your demented mind........JK

I listened to the alaska senate debate last night..........and YES I need a life....and I can tell you that I think he will win relection because his oppenent is a weassly pussy...if I had been him, I would have stayed on stephens ass about this the whole time and he didnt.....

also stephens was pretty convincing in his argument about prosecutorial misconduct in the case because even the JUDGE jumped the prosecuters over thier coduct

and BEFORE YOU FIRE OFF YOUR BULLSHIT

if he is guilty, throw his ass in jail and out of office

but you "progressives" were all okay with ok getting off and even cop killers who the DA"s and all screw up on technicality and he as a citizen deserves the same rights......WHETHER YOU WANT TO GIVE THEM TO HIM OR NOT...........

OJ getting off.........

and I can tell you that I think he will win relection because his oppenent is a weassly pussy

Not much time to flip this flop:

www.electoral-vote.com

"(DeLay) has not been found guilty of ANYTHING "

Except screwing over his constituents. When DeLay discovered a weakness in election law, did he move to fix it? NO. He exploited it.

Such an egregious weakness, in fact, the Texas Legislature (of all bodies) had to finally outlaw it. Some hero you've got there, BL2.

someone needs to inform this dolt that he was elected governor at some point, not proclaimed king.

but ther fact remains...he has not been found guilty of a SINGLE Thing...........and THAT has to rankle you

I understand the poll you showed and all I was saying is that the dem running seems to be pretty weak...sort of someone who might have been just sent there to take it for the party knowing that they couldnt unseat stephens before all this came out

his answers on several things were pretty weak

and there is considerable support, I have read for stephens to get elected and then step down and a replacement appointed by...
um....lets see........THE ALASKAN GOVERNOR PERHAPS

and dont slam that without remembering the bullshit in new jersey not long ago

ITS JUST A HUNCH..........

"""but ther fact remains...he has not been found guilty of a SINGLE Thing...........and THAT has to rankle you""""

"""Just two days earlier, he had been convicted of seven counts of failing to report more than $250,000 in gifts and home renovations he received from a wealthy former oil services industry executive, William J. Allen. And before the rally, Mr. Stevens encountered still more pressure to step down."""

Remind us again what part of that is not clear?

What is it with Republicans and reality?

I know I shouldn't be, but I am always amazed by comments like this--as if some democrats don't live in a world of denial at times.

Don't believe me, ask Bill Clinton if he was unfaithful to his wife.

Come on, people. We need to stop judging individuals solely in terms of their political affiliations.

Conservatives and liberals are mere labels, useful only to people who can't see or wish to see the individual but only see the need to paint themselves and others with the broadest brush possible. It betrays an intellectual laziness, myopia and a deeply entrenched insecurity--the need to identify with the power of an "us" as opposed to "them."

We decry negative stereotyping when it has to do with race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, but somehow see it as fine to do with one's political positioning.

Cheers

Sorta like voting for Bush twice, or voting for McCain now?

Yes, if the only reason you are voting for any candidate is because they belong to a particular party.

Cheers

IF this was for me, I was talking about delay.
sorry if I wasnt clear

and again.....the prosecutors apparently screwed up and cop killers are let off on those kinds of things.............so.........

Ted is acting like a Democrat--where is Jefferson and his trial for the 90k in cash in the freezer case?

-----------

I guess he thinks he will win in AK and then lose his appeal and Sarah then appoints another Repub for his seat in the Senate.

"but ther fact remains...(Delay) has not been found guilty of a SINGLE Thing...........and THAT has to rankle you"

What, I'm supposed to be surprised by the Texas concept of "justice"?

Here's one more fact that remains: Delay is a scum, who screwed over the voters he vowed to protect.

Well why not? Palin has gotten away with saying she hasn't been found guilty of ethics violations! Repulsicans are better than anyone else at looking right at ya and lying through their teeth. I wonder if it is genetic?

I guess he thinks he will win in AK and then lose his appeal and Sarah then appoints another Repub for his seat in the Senate.

McAnkles is right on the mark!

Sarah will be back to holding down the fort in Juneau come November 5.

Come on McAnkles you can say it.

No I wasn't.

I don't know.

Where is the $16-18 Billion in cash "missing" in Iraq?

Where are the tens of thousands of missing US weapons and weapon systems that are missing from Iraq?

Don't know? Well neither does your hero. But it was on their watch that it disappeared.
Don't bitch when some of the weapons resurface, smuggled through our ports, on their watch.

The Bush Cabal should all be tried and then hung for treason.
Maybe we can film it on our webcams.
