Another bad sign is that Palin has decided to wage her own campaign which means she doesn't want McCain's defeat to reflect badly on her own ambitions. That's the problem with a "maverick." You never know which way their horns are going to point.

I hear talk that Palin is being set up as a scapegoat. Publically, that's probably going to be true. But privately, Rove and Company is the real culprit and McCain will probably deliver them a tongue lashing behind closed doors.

This election was effectively over when Bush, foreshadowing Palin, told Brownie he was doing a heckuva job and followed it up about a month later by nominating Harriet Miers for SCOTUS.

All the Democrats had to do after that was wait and not doing anything really, really stupid which they've managed to do. Most pollsters call during the day when mostly unemployed people are home or if they call at other times, it is a home phone number rather than a mobile phone which most Republicans have as their central contact. In essence, the people that pollsters are likely to reach are Democrat leaning voters. Factor in that pollsters are using Democrats for 60% or more of their polling base, and you get these whacky poll results. Also factor in that pollsters only get results from 20% of the people they call. Bush was down by more than this in '04.

Election day voting is the only thing that matters. With all the hype about an Obama blowout, don't be surprised to see the liberal youth vote with all of their bumper stickers and t-shirts fail to show up at the polling booths just like '00 and '04 because they think their guy has it locked up and they would rather get drunk at a fraternity party instead of voting.
