Aides to George W. Bush, former Reagan White House staff and friends of John McCain have all told The Sunday Telegraph that they not only expect to lose on November 4, but also believe that Obama is poised to win a crushing mandate. The prospect of an electoral rout has unleashed a bitter bout of recriminations both within the McCain campaign and the wider conservative movement, over who is to blame and what should be done to salvage the party's future.

This extreme power that is spoken of is at best, scary. We could go from deep in the toilet to well into the sewer pipes. There may not be a plumber capable of saving the whole shebang.

If in fact what appears to be the impossible and McCain should win, we just may be in as bad a position as ever.

It may be possible that either way we are in trouble, lots and lots of trouble. Hope for control on the part of the apparent winning candidate.

"Republican fears of historic Obama landslide unleash civil war for the future of the party "

This is why it is very important for disaffected Republicans to vote for Bob Barr and other Libertarians! It will send a clear signal as to where the party should go: constitutionally limited government that doesn't engage in wars of agression and overspending capable of bankrupting the country.

BRING IT ON, YOU RIGHT-WING CUNTS.

The Repubs have no one to blame but themselves. They abandoned conservative principles, grew government and became corrupt.

The sad thing is that by doing so they have allowed Obama and the dems to be on the brink of taking over.

Mark Stein put it this way:
"...The spirit of the age is: Ask not what your country can do for you, demand it. Why can't the government sort out my health care? Why can't they pick up my mortgage?

In his first inaugural address, Calvin Coolidge said: "I favor the policy of economy, not because I wish to save money, but because I wish to save people." That's true in a more profound sense than he could have foreseen. In Europe, lavish social-democratic government has transformed citizens into eternal wards of the nanny state: the bureaucracy's assumption of every adult responsibility has severed Continentals from the most basic survival impulse, to the point where unaffordable entitlements on shriveled birth rates have put a question mark over some of the oldest nation states on earth. A vote for an Obama-Pelosi-Barney Frank-ACORN supermajority is a vote for a Europeanized domestic policy that is, as the eco-types like to say, "unsustainable"."

NRO

"They abandoned conservative principles...."

I'd argue neoconservatism never had those. George W. Bush and friends were radicals and behaved that way. Their methods were ruthless.

What's left of Republicanism after the Party threw out the real conservatives has been in the very weird position of arguing that what we might have with Democrats would be more frightening than what we did have with them.

The Republican Party's recent evolution definitely left this conservative. When the Republicans took control of both the Presidency and Congress, people were calling the Democratic Party DOA. But they regrouped and now seem to be about to control it all. I hope a complete loss of power will cause the Republican Party to regroup and go back its conservative roots.

Well said Snowman. I'll be voting 3rd party for the first--and hopefully last--time in 9 days. Maybe a banishment to the wilderness will make us stronger in 2010. If not, hope still springs eternal for 2012.

This might be an election with no "winner" anyhow. If we're going to lose one, then 2008-2010 might be the best time of all to not be anywhere near Washington.

If we're going to lose one, then 2008-2010 might be the best time of all to not be anywhere near Washington.

That's right.

Leave it to someone else to try to clean up your messes.

The Dems have run Congress for two years. Has it been a good two years?

Sadly I think that they might be right. I say sadly, not because the neonazis don't deserve to lose power for the shit that they have done, but because the democrats have been right with them for the most part, and are completely underserving of the political upswing resulting from their mutual bad behavior.

WE WILL BURY YOU.

"Run" Congress? You're a moron.

Shit!

What I meant to say:

If not, hope still springs eternal for 2012.

If they start organizing soon 2012 may be the best chance an outside party has ever had.

The prospect of an electoral rout has unleashed a bitter bout of recriminations both within the McCain campaign and the wider conservative movement, over who is to blame and what should be done to salvage the party's future.

Well. I can help you with both of those things folks. Shit, I have it figured out and I only have a 'liberal arts' education.

First. You're all to blame. Each and every one of you who sat back and rubber stamped anything that came down the pipes from the current Administration. From torture to Iraq to Fiscal Policy to Foriegn Policy...it's all on your hands.

You abandoned the principles that most 'conservatives' identified with, now they have abandoned you to either vote for Obama or one of the third party candidates. I, myself am among them. The opportunity presented itself to you and you ignored it. You called it crazy or loony because it was a truth you couldn't bear to face.

You accused American citizens of being anti-american because they held opposing view points to your own. You made your own bed. Don't complain because it's lumpy.

To sum of the first point. Your inability to admit then rectify your own mistakes is why you are at fault.

Second. The only way you're going to manage to salvage what is left of the Republican party is to kick those responsible for its demise to the curb. Get rid of them. You can win elections without them. You can affect change without them.

The only thing those people bring to the table is rabid hate and fear.
If this election results in the establishment of a third or more parties who have equal footing as the two "major" parties, then the downfall of the conservative wing of the republican party will not have been in vain.

If you just go back to the same bullshit, slimey fucking tactics that got you into this mess, look to be sitting in the nosebleeds for a lot longer.

Excellent post Axiom.

"Second. The only way you're going to manage to salvage what is left of the Republican party is to kick those responsible for its demise to the curb. Get rid of them. You can win elections without them. You can affect change without them."

That would mean the rational--perhaps 30 or 40 percent of the Republican party--minority, would have to kick out the rabid majority. Not going to happen.

It's more likely that the rabid right led by Palin take complete control and the not-batshit-crazy types like Powell, Lugar, Weld, etc., become independents or jump to the Democrats.

The only way a 3rd party has a chance is to convince a viable Dem or Rep (sorry, Bob Barr) to cross-over. And then they'd have to make themselves wildly popular. Even Teddy Roosevely couldn't pull that off. As long as you keep serving up Ralph (what's a megalomaniac?) Nader or all those other morons, 3rd parties will remain a bad political joke.

WE WILL BURY YOU.

And a snarky, 5 foot tall guy is banging his shoe on the podium.

Could the Republicans possibly fragment into the Investment Banker Party and the Christian Facist Party? I hope they do.

What's a facist?

I have a face. Am I one?

Massive voter fraud behind Obama's miraculous surge damned Hillary's candidacy --- Hillary's backers are revealing now. (Newsmax.com )<>

The 'conservatives' didn't make any mistakes. They were nazis from the start. What the little people call conservatism is nothing more than plastic wrap for the swastika and always has been. Same bunch of nazi assholes running the show.

Fascism

And Shawn, gets in just under the wire, as the greatest tribute to douchebaggery of the weekend!

Go Shawn!

But with the election nearing, his work will be cut out for him to repeat his outstanding performance, with the likes of BetelG, Herm, Celisary, and Dumpling certain to provide stiff competition. Good luck!

This isn't all bad for the Republicans. It has been assumed by everyone on this site that come 2010 everything will be peachy. If it isn't, then you could see the Democrats in the same mess. They would have controlled congress for 4 years and the White House for 2 years. Might be tough to still blame Bush for everything. The Democrats will still need to produce!

It has been assumed by everyone on this site

Who's everyone?

And with THIS latest fantastic generalization I must go to bed. Another Monday filled with capitalist pursuits, is upon us.

Goodnight.

Blow yourself right.

I hope Obama is everything people hope he is. I am voting for him but fear the people who say they are all just part of the same party are right.

Right-wing parties throughout Europe have had to reinvent themselves in order to win people over. They've evolved into modern parties with MODERN ideas that appeal to enough voters to win elections.

The GOP in the U.S. got a postponement on modernizing by turning to the South and morphing into a party of identity: white, straight, rural, evangelical, etc.

Time to get back to ideas!

ok lokiderflaninja.

You don't understand what voter fraud means idiot. The election is on Nov 4th and its Oct 27th today. Voter registration fraud is a self healing issue as Mickey Mous e will not vote.

Mickey Mouse will not vote

Exactly.

For "voter fraud" to work there would have to be an organized effort to produce actual voters for the fraudulent registrations.

Let's see some evidence of that before we start slinging accusations around.

I saw a Republican spokesman on CBS News last night say that looking at the evidence that shows a lack of significant voter fraud was "going down a slippery slope".

That destination of that evidential "slope" is known as reality and the GOP is now on it, at last.

Welcome to the multibillion dollar 4 year exercise in convergance and avoidance, marketed as an exercise in Democracy.

The shit has hit the fan. It is the fault of the Republicans in general and Shrub in particular, with a special commendation for Cheney.

But, the last two years suggest the Democrats lack the balls to right the ship. Bush began his wire tapping program his first week in office and has used it to hamstring the party of pussies. How deeply Obama is ensnared in this bullshit will determine how long it takes to dig us out of the hole we're in. Republican's are far too corrupt and philosophically deluded to do any better.

Isn't it sad that corruption drives the national dialogue? Listening to Nader on Bill Mahre after a carefully staged debate, controlled by a joint venture of the duopoly, I heard honest talk on TV, like real change. But the joint venture locked Nader and other important voices out of the debates a long time ago. Continued corruption demands it.

Finally America will drive a stake through the heart of Reaganomics and the basic premise for the Republican Party. We will finally return to Keynesian economic, we will finally begin returning Americans to prosperity and millions who will enjoy the lives they will live will still bemoan the evil Democrats and their "socialism." I'm thinking though that like Social Security and Medicare the same simpletons who vote Republican and scream "socialist" will grab hold of their new health care and never let go. Most Republican voters vote out of attachment to an ideology which hasn't served them well but provides an emotional feeling of self-reliance most never live they whine about SS right up until the day they receive their first check. Finally, adults will be running things again.

Finally America will drive a stake through the heart of Reaganomics and the basic premise for the Republican Party. We will finally return to Keynesian economic,

LOL!

We are currently for the last 8 years in keynesian economics and now your sporting Yahoos for returning to it.

Try looking at global free trade and our off shoring and keynesian gets thrown out the door.

My word, at least get some small understanding of the entire program.

"We are currently for the last 8 years in keynesian economics and now your sporting Yahoos for returning to it."

Ridiculous comment after the Bush tax cuts for the rich. Borrow and spend is not Keynsian. The 700 billion bailout was not Keynsian. It is all borrowed money. You have to actually tax someone to pay the bills, a little secret Republicans and Libertarians refuse to acknowledge.

You mean you can't conduct two wars and cut taxes at the same time?

Danni, Don't you know Taxes are Immoral (Al Rantel) and reducing Taxes is a Moral Imperative (Michael Medved)?

"Danni, Don't you know Taxes are Immoral (Al Rantel)"

Al Rantel??? Haven't heard that name in a while, he used to be a talk show host here in S. Florida. Funny, in those days he was a liberal and I don't know if he has exited the closet yet but he was gay.

Reading major red state blogs, though there is definitely hand-wringing, there is little self-recrimination.

Those people have a very hard time seeing they've done anything wrong. I mean anything. They spend most of their time erasing posts of those who try to tell them differently.

It's as if they feel they learned everything they needed to know about life in high school.

Not like maturing experiences weren't available to them. Maybe the next time they support a war they'll also have the responsibility to serve in it.

"Those people have a very hard time seeing they've done anything wrong. I mean anything. They spend most of their time erasing posts of those who try to tell them differently."

This is why I've been so bemused by the rantings and ravings of the right about how we're all headed for Hell if we elect Democrats to the White House and Congress. They had eight years to show us a better way, if there is one, and they have failed in that mission so abjectly it is not remotely funny. Every index of American well-being has taken a nosedive during Bush's two terms as Fuhrer. Not even the goodies the right promised its constituency have materialized - Roe vs. Wade is still the law of the land, gay marriage is now legal in three states, and Wall Street was not handed everyone's Social Security funds to fritter away, though they have been handled a sizeable portion of the rest of the Treasury.

If the GOP is headed for election-day disaster, its leaders have no one but themselves to blame - and of course, they'll never do that. I am beginning to think that the Libertarian Party, or some other third party, may rise to take the place of the GOP as America's "other" major political party. The pillagers and lunatics who have taken over the Republican Party have given it such a bad name that many of the party faithful are, quite simply, over it, wanting conservative principles applied in government but unwilling to march in lock-step back to the time of Teapot Dome and the Tammany machine. Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of Ike, very publicly jumped ship a few weeks ago. Nancy Reagan is publicly at odds with her party about stem-cell research. It's getting too embarrassing to stay on board with the Bushes and the Palins and the McCains, who all but handle snakes and speak in tongues.

On November 4th, America will very likely elect what the GOP cannot demonize strongly enough - a liberal of mixed-race descent. If that does not show the GOP that America is sick and tired of its sleazy tactics and corrupt governance - and it won't - then there is no hope for them.

On November 4th, America will very likely elect what the GOP cannot demonize strongly enough - a liberal of mixed-race descent.

Amazing statement. Staggers the imagination.

Every hear of Colin Powell? He's mixed-race, and demonstrably moderate, if not liberal.

As usual, race matters more to you, than to us. Which makes this election so exciting for you: you can marry your affection with liberalism, and your tendency to vote for minority set-asides, all at once.

"You have to actually tax someone to pay the bills, a little secret Republicans and Libertarians refuse to acknowledge."

BO is the one that says a tax cut for 95%. We all know that is a lie, but so is almost everything else that come out of his pie hole.
Tax Cut= more revenue.
BO says capital gains needs to go up for fairness. Forget that you will get less revenue. oh well..

"Every hear of Colin Powell? He's mixed-race, and demonstrably moderate, if not liberal."

And who endorses Barack Obama and expects him to be a great president. Transformational. Had Colin Powell not joined the Bush administration it could very well have been him being elected today.

"BO is the one that says a tax cut for 95%."

Get a clue, go find out where the majority of tax revenue comes from and then get back to us. TAx cuts for that 95% will generate additional jobs, income and tax revenue. TAx cuts for the upper 5% do not generally get spent, that's why trickle down you leg economics never works.

If we have all Democrats in office, maybe we'll get debate and complex divisions within the Democratic party? Fat chance, but I hope so.
More likely they'll all sell out to keep their seats, and the public will get pissed and they'll lose their seats to the next sellout.

"Every hear of Colin Powell? He's mixed-race, and demonstrably moderate, if not liberal."

Dear Misguided One:

Yep, I've heard of Colin Powell - he's the guy the Bushies hung out to dry over WMD's. As subsequent events have proved, that was a big-ass mistake. He's now firmly in the other camp, drumming up votes for the opposition.

Didn't have to be that way, but Rethugs never learn, which was my original point.

Actually, I thought your original point was that Republicans hate liberals, and if you add to the mix the fact that Obama is mixed-race, it'll drive us off a cliff.

And we don't care. I'm already sick and tired of hearing that any objections to Barack Obama must be based on racism. But it'll be a funny few years, when Saturday Night Live realizes they can't really do any spoofs of Oval Office politics anymore. And every time Leno or Letterman makes an Obama joke, they're beseiged with hate mail.

TAx cuts for that 95% will generate additional jobs, income and tax revenue. TAx cuts for the upper 5% do not generally get spent, that's why trickle down you leg economics never works.

Danni thinks all Companies offer ESOP.

rightisright,

Just like opposing the Iraq war is based on being unpatriotic?

who voted for the bailout?

McCain & Obama

Fucking assholes, both owned by Wall Street.

"Ever hear of Colin Powell? Mixed-race, and demonstrably moderate, if not liberal."

Colin Powell. The conscience of the cabinet who was steamrollered by Bushies. Colin Powell. A hundred years ago he would have been termed the house nigger. Colin Powell, who finally Had It Up To Here and endorsed Barack Obama. THAT Colin Powell? herm

"Finally America will drive a stake through the heart of Reaganomics and the basic premise for the Republican Party. We will finally return to Keynesian economic, we will finally begin returning Americans to prosperity and millions who will enjoy the lives"

Not to be unkind.. but what planet do you live on?

I'll give you this, and I'm not being sarcastic.. at least you can spell and use proper English.. unlike most that share your views. I guess that's worth something..
