Two phone companies have provided portable cell towers to serve a remote canyon ranch of John and Cindy McCain near Sedona, Ariz. "Mrs. McCain's staff went through the Web site as any member of the general public would - no string-pulling, no phone calls, no involvement of Senate staff," a spokesman said. "Just because she is married to a senator doesn't mean she forfeits her right to ask for cell service as any other Verizon customer can."

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggh
hhht.

Ethics lawyers said Cindy McCain's dealings with the wireless companies stand out because her husband is a senior member of the Senate commerce committee, which oversees the Federal Communications Commission and the telecommunications industry. He has been a leading advocate for industry-backed legislation, fighting regulations and taxes on telecommunication services.

Starvis,

You linked the Washington Post?

No Huffington today?

Are you feeling OK?

*Just giving you a hard time*

I think Cindy McCain IS her own cell-tower.

Cindy McCain Gets Own Cell Tower

Can you hear me now Mrs McCain?

Secret Service says they put in request for Verizon tower

A representative for the Secret Service confirms Verizon's statement earlier tonight that the company only put in a temporary cell service facility near the McCain ranch in Arizona at the request of the agency.

"We made a request of Verizon in I believe May that was covered under our contract and they did address our immediate needs," said Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren.

Cindy requested a permanent tower in 2007 ...note..."requested"

Well at least now she won't have to fly in her private plane to an area just to get cell service. She is just doing her part to save energy.

confirms Verizon's statement earlier tonight that the company only put in a temporary cell service facility near the McCain ranch

Why the nerve of Verizon to only put in a *temporary* cell tower! Why they must be Obama supporters!

Those damn librul cell phone workers!

She needs that tower so she can climb it to get to the top of her's and John's egos.

That needs to be the next question for the candidates.

How many cell towers do you own!

Probably needs it to call Hillary for advice on the economy.

There you Righties go-your own candidate calling Shillary for advice.

Please parse "number of requests" vs. "requests granted"

Now just imagine it was Senator Obama who had enjoyed this special relationship with both Verizon and AT&T. Imagine the howls of studied outrage that would have eminated from Grampy Poopy Pants and Company!

Meh. As for the Commerce Committee link, John McCain is going to be in the minority for the rest of his Senate career, and he's only been to the Senate once (for the bailout vote) in the last 8 months.

So you're saying that Verizon isn't going to get a good return on their investment?

Hopefully, he'll be able to contact that cave in homefreeistan and order that October surprise he desperately needs.
And its not like the cave-dweller doesn't owe John and george big time...

We really care about cell phone towers in these serious financial times?

What else are you willing to ignore?

What else are you willing to ignore?

reality. the right have never been too fond of it anyways...

Change he needs in his pockets:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his campaign have close ties to Verizon and AT&T. Five campaign officials, including manager Rick Davis, have worked as lobbyists for Verizon. Former McCain staff member Robert Fisher is an in-house lobbyist for Verizon and is volunteering for the campaign. Fisher, Verizon chief executive Ivan G. Seidenberg and company lobbyists have raised more than $1.3 million for McCain's presidential effort, and Verizon employees are among the top 20 corporate donors over McCain's political career, giving his campaigns more than $155,000.

McCain's Senate chief of staff Mark Buse, senior strategist Charles R. Black Jr. and several other campaign staff members have registered as AT&T lobbyists in the past. AT&T Executive Vice President Timothy McKone and AT&T lobbyists have raised more than $2.3 million for McCain. AT&T employees have donated more than $325,000 to the Republican's campaigns, putting the company in the No. 3 spot for career donations to McCain, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

You think you are choosing the lesser of two evils, but no, it's all the same. We are slaves to our corporate masters who mete out our existence.

They just fool you into thinking that you are making the better choice.

Recently..in a town near me..they were promised cell service by mid august...everyone in the town ran out and bought phones...well...its mid oct. and no service yet....yup...its easy to get a tower put up.

Gotta have both Verizon and AT&T. That way you have both GSM and CDMA (or WCDMA and CDMA2000 in a 3G network). Doesn't matter what network you are in, you can always call your friends for free.

So, a group of 10,000+ users who live in a cellular-coverage limited area (i.e. Monterey County, CA) should have access to the same technology, especially since they provide a bigger return on investment.
