"Friendly fire" has been a fact of warfare since we ouzed out of the primordial ocean and decided that "me and my mates want that bit of food that you and your mates are hoarding" (of course in those days you were much more likely to get a squishy sucker to the back of the head than a depleted uranium shell). So why cover it up? We all (should) know that war is terrible and therefore something to be avoided if at ALL possible and in order to reinforce that fact the horrors of war should not be covered up... I'm a lefty who served in Vietnam, and my dad, a lefty, served in WWII and Korea. I agree that reports of friendly fire deaths are demoralizing to the troops.

The problem is that the people who brought us this war did not serve, and many made a concerted effort to avoid service. So, they don't know jack shit about either friendly fire or enemy fire.

ARMYOF1 misses the point. The entire war in Iraq is an illegal invasion and occupation. We shouldn't be arguing over friendly fire deaths; those who were killed should be alive... They should be with their families and friends. Instead, we have leaders who brazenly dispatch troops to fight in unwinnable, criminal wars.

You can call me names all you like, but it won't reverse 8 years of disastrous policies that led America down the road toward ruin. I certainly don't fault the soldiers who volunteered for service -- they were misled to believe they were fighting to defend America. Unfortunately, we have now learned the truth; through the prism of history, the Bush-Cheney regime is clearly the worst, most corrupt administration in American history.

As for diging ditches and unstopping toilets, those are handy skills for any home owner. I recently got out out my mattock and spade and dug a nice little drainage ditch to divert rainwater further away from my home. And if I couldn't use a plunger, well, it could get real shitty...
