Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday. "I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government," said Thomas E. Hutchins, the former official who authorized the operation.

Isnt terrorism wonderful!
The fact that they label you anything, without cause, without justification, simply because you stand opposed to them, as some type of criminal.

Seems as law enforcement has become kgb.

The CRIMINALS are in control. One only needs to watch what is happening, the business-corporate corruption, the representatives of the People, whom consistantly turn their backs on their fellow citizens, to a niggardly posterity.

It is your lives, your Liberty, your prosperity that they sacrifice. Even now, they'll tell you to trust them, knowing you'll suffer, for their benefit. To serve them.

Cowards, punks and thugs hiding behind badges and criminal authority.

None of the violent wing-nuts in this country will go on the terror list. They are "patriots."

sooooo by this logic Martin Luther King was a terrorist.

Zeig heil!

Remember America, it was a nice country.

When the fascists are thrown out and the worst are in prison the nation will begin to recover.

.....after reading the entire article.....

.....its easy to see that America is being led down the road to fascism ......and that we are no more than one or two bad administrations away from outright totalitarianism by the brown-shirts.......

Put Activists on Terror Lists

Nice fascist tool to prevent air travel.

"brown-shirts......."

Like Lee Co. (Florida) sheriff-thug Mike Scott who hooped and hollered for a Palin rally in Bonita Springs.

(By the way, he may have taken a dive into some hot water over that one, i.e. possible Hatch Act violation: www.naplesnews.com).

"I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government," he said. Hutchins said he did not notify Ehrlich about the surveillance. Ehrlich spokesman Henry Fawell said the governor had no comment.

Hehe, the First Amendment was written by guys who disrupted the government.

They wear brown shirts....I live in MD and let me tell you about how poorly the state police conduct business. One of them dies and they close I-83, and I-695 from noon to 4pm on a Friday. One dead cop and every parent of a elementary school child has to worry because their school bus is an hour and a half late. Not to mention the total and complete gridlock of said highways and secondary roads. For one dead cop. This summer a man had "claimed" he shot his wife and barricaded himself in his house for a standoff. This was on RT.50 in Easton, MD which is basically the only road into Ocean City MD. The state police closed the road both ways, again on a Friday, from 10am to 5pm.

I cannot say enough about the Maryland State Police.

"I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government," said Thomas E. Hutchins

The 1st Amendment guarantees exactly what this fool thinks it does not, the right to peacefully assemble. What a jack ass.

I can't think how many historical American leaders would be 'terrorists' for 'disrupting the government'

All they have to do is label you as a terrorist, and they can do anything they want with you. Thank you Bush, your legacy is very clear now.
Scary!

Here's the problem. Any technology that comes along (databases, cloning, etc...) will eventually be used.

If they figure out a way to put your total history in a chip and implant it in your body, it is going to happen, whether the constitution allows it or not. This is how drug tests slipped under the wire and no one says it is an invasion of personal privacy. what could be invasive? Even if you don't use drugs, i still recommend using fake urine because dna info can be extracted from it.

The government is currently building a huge dna database. It is only a mtter of time till those tests will be done when you are born.

The fascists need to protect their place so a loss of basic freedoms is no biggie for them.

So resources were allocated to protect us from actual terrorists and a few people basically decided to subvert those resources by wasting their time with people who pose no danger to anyone.

The individuals wasting our resources on protestors and other assorted bigmouths are actually helping the real terrorists by watering down the watch list.

Intentionally or not, they function as traitors.

***** "I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government," said Thomas E. Hutchins ******

......and the Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms so we can form a militia to overthrow a shitty government.....is he opposed to that one ?......

As Jim Morrison said so powerfully, "You cannot Petition the Lord".

But, we are supposed to have the right to petition our Government. The Constitution and Bill of Rights supposedly guarantee this.

The reason it doesn't work anymore is class warfare is in full swing. Wall Street Gamers have taken over the Government, stolen all our money and need a police state to protect their positions. BushCo has been anticipating this problem by building prisons, repealing our individual rights, and developing new crowd control technologies from data mining to microwaves on a truck.

All they want is everything, free for them, by working you to death.

"All they want is everything, free for them, by working you to death."

And unfortunately there are members of the working class willing to be their henchmen. If the Maryland state police frighten you just think what the thugs employed by Blackwater are capable of.

The day is coming.
We already know that THEIR contingency plans call for YOUR sacrifice.
You will fight, or you will live an indentured existance to those whom think they are better and smarter, more deserving. You will allow them to enslave your offspring.
You already do.

When they spill the blood of good and decent humans, on this hallowed ground- you will rise to the challenge.

The cost of liberty is high.

If you will not risk it all for liberty, you deserve nothing else.

The government has always done things like this. As long as the groups don't do anything that violates the law they will not have any problems. If they violate the law (like trying to blowing up a building full of school kids) everyone will be glad theses guys were on the inside. It's part of their job. The problem as I see it is not that the groups may have the possibility of their rights being violated. The issue is that the official doesn't no where the line is much less when to cross it or not.

what? only 53?

they'd have a field day here at the 'tort!

Fortunately, Obama is going to give all of that power back when he starts running the show.

"I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government," said Thomas E. Hutchins, the former official who authorized the operation.

Oh, and the founding fathers would line up to put a stake through this vampire's heart.

STIR,

Well yes, because the rich are a concentrated force more capable of leveraging that force politically in order to gain economic advantage.

They cross the line ALL THE FUCKING TIME IN THIS COUNTRY. At the 2008 Republican Convention those arrested had broken no laws. Beatings, shootings broom handles up the ass are occasionally caught on video tape, but more often covered up by Supervisors and Courts. Dead protestors at Kent State broke no laws.

"I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government," said Thomas E. Hutchins, the former official who authorized the operation.

Damn, I didn't realize there were limits on the 1st amendment or any of the amendments for that matter.

Ya nlearn something new from these government officials every day.

IRAQIBUKKAKE- You might have to change your Drudge moniker to UNITEDSTATES BUKKAKE because that's exactly what we're becoming. What a sorry ass country we're becoming. The paranoia of a black president is intensifying and deeply dividing the country. Well, to me, it's about fucking time the chickens are coming home to roost for the white racists and xenophobes in this country.

MegaDittos!

With this kind of thinking it would not be to big a leap to see the day when bloggers that don't mirror the administrations point of view will make the list.

Myself and soooo many others on this site alone would be in danger. I'd like to think that such thinking was limited to a small localized area. But when considering the paranoia of Bushco, it isn't hard to imagine larger scale "black" listing.

Well, to me, it's about fucking time the chickens are coming home to roost for the white racists and xenophobes in this country.

You gotta be shittin me.

"As long as the groups don't do anything that violates the law they will not have any problems."

We have a constitutional scholar here. Brilliantly ignorant post.

Pathetic abuse of power by a man who seemingly does not understand the first amendment. The problem is as a few posters outlined, this type of behavior and abuse of power has been exacerbated over the last 6 years, imagine in 20. Imagine if another strike happens in the u.s. There are many circumstances or events that could accelerate the process of limited rights to citizens. With 911, the gov't decided to control your movements, with the wall street crash, they now control even more your financial reality, what will be the excuse to justify control over what you say and do?

What is an Activist? Someone who is Active?

That IS terrifying! We cannot have that!

Now, where is my remote dang it...

"I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government,"

WTF! are these people from an alien planet?

The watch list is now estimated to have over a million names on it.

What's another 53?

The list is scarier than the terrorists at this point.

www.aclu.org

I think what these 53 activists should do is sue the governor, police chief and state for slander, lose of privacy, freedom of association, and freedom of movement. All constitutional rights.

If these activist committed no crime, there is no justification for the chief to proactively place these people in a terrorists data base. There names will never be purged as the commissioner claims.

These people's lives will never be the same. Their incomes could be compromised, there freedom of travel will be compromised, their freedom of association (and everyone who comes in contact with these activists) will be compromised and the state is ultimately responsible for the actions of it's police force.

Fight for your rights. Don't wait and hope Obama will help. He might not be able to.

Fight bad laws with good laws.

Fight bad people with good people.

Just Fight!!!

Don't ever give up.

Don't ever forget.

Our children need us to protect them.

My point was that there has to be a balance. In this case your dealing with law enforcement. They are responsible enforcing the laws right or wrong. When they act in a way that shows they have no idea what the limit of the law is, that's a real problem. Having said that it still doesn't relieve them from the responsibility of enforcing the law. There are more than two sides to this story.

From the ACLU link above:

"Marine Staff Sgt. Daniel Brown was blocked from flying while on his way home from an 8-month deployment in Iraq. He was listed as a suspected terrorist due to a previous incident in which gunpowder was detected on his boots, most likely a residue of a previous tour in Iraq."

All they have to do is label you as a terrorist, and they can do anything they want with you. Thank you Bush, your legacy is very clear now.

--------------

bingo. the plan from the start.

"My point was that there has to be a balance."

There has not been any balance for a very long time and it got much worse during Bush's presidency.

Every politician in D.C. should be put on a terror list. Hope those folks sue.

Well, to me, it's about fucking time the chickens are coming home to roost for the white racists and xenophobes in this country.

SNIPER- Clarify your above comment. Seems to me you have something more to say.

Really?

What till Obama gets in. You will see domestic terrorism that will make Clinton's Administration look peaceful.

This is what we get for allowing the so called "Patriot bill" to be passed. It's reminiscent of the Joseph McCarthy hearings of the early 1950's. Guilt by association, guilt for stating one's mind, and guilt by not being in lock-step with the government. On this one, I have to applaud the A.C.L.U. for uncovering the sleeze-balls in the MD State Police office a.k.a. MD Gestapo. The bastards involved with this crap should be jailed for conspiring to deprive the protesters of their constitutional 1st amendment rights.

Anyone that posts on this site in a negative matter towards the government is ALREADY on the terrorist list.

Anyone that posts on this site in a negative matter towards the government is ALREADY on the terrorist list.

I would consider that a badge of honor these days!

Anyone caught red handed like these fools trying to pull this kind of shit should be sentenced to repeat high school again.

I would consider that a badge of honor these days!

When the nazis took power in germany, there were protestors. Some left the country too...

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday. "I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government,"

Welcome to the republican fear state.

Now we are putting our own people on terror watch lists as predicted when these things were created.

Feudalism is coming home to roost.

"I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government,"
a peaceful group in a park blocks away from a
government office could fall into this category.
they distract traffic and the group would scare
people away from the offices because the group
could move toward the offices at will. if officers were to approach the group there would no doubt be protesters that should be hauled away for being disrespectful. the "peace keepers" should go for the leaders first and the rest will fall out until they come up with a new leader.
