Say goodbye to your congressional committee assignment, Senator TRAITOR!

Ironic! Joe's god or Sarah's god? Do they (Joe and Sarah) ever speak to each other? In tongues or in Hebrew? Does Joe's god look at Sarah and say oy veh? Does Sarah's reply you betcha? herm

It is blasphemous for Joe Lieberman to accuse God of stealing elections. The Republicans generally do get "help" but it sure as hell ain't from God.

Yep...Joe has forsaken the moral depravity that is the Democratic Party. What a traitor.

Of course God = Karl Rove

God didn't help you, Joe.

Joe would have said "with Jesus' help", but his people killed him.

Joe was a hoot in Religulous.

If he was president, nothing would happen on "the sabbath."

What a lunatic.

Right on, Joe Lieberman! A cabinet post awaits you!

Yes, McCain is the 44th.

"P.S. Now playing after her speech: Shania Twain's "She's Not Just a Pretty Face."

Is Shania Twain a McCain supporter???

I suspect the McCain campaign may get smacked with a "do not play" again. I'd love it.

Joe needs help from a good shrink and some anti-psychotic meds.

"Thanks Joe!! It's too bad that you and your people will burn in a lake of fire for all eternity! You betcha!!"
-Sarah

Dear Jesus,
we beseech thee to change the numbers in them there election computers and put your servant Sarah Palin in the White House...ooops...I mean John McCain in the White HOuse....well....at least for a few days....then maybe you might want to call him home to sit by your throne and let Sarah Palin rule the world....er...I mean the USA.

In Jesus name we pray.

"You betcha!!"

I wonder if Joe switched the sabbath to Sunday??

"with God's help."

And if she loses does that mean there is no God Joe?

Good thing he has not foresaken the moral depravity of the Republican party though.

Lieberman: Palin Will Win 'With God's Help'

Joe Lieberman = takitez.

"with God's help."

And if she loses does that mean there is no God Joe?

Of course not. Carlos Zambrano pointed to god every time he struck out a batter but he never shook his fist at god when the cubs were eliminated in 3 games.

Joe Lieberman is a maverick and for which the dems tossed Joe under the bus. But he survived with help from reps.

It time for Joe to join the real mavericks....

America, change is coming!

What a useless backstabbing traitor. May God Rebuke You oh "wonderous" nut.

Change from business as usual.

The White House will become a house of prayer --- though policies will strictly still abide by the Constitution.

Bush was called into the White House for the war.

Now the next President will be called into the White House to bring reform and peace and prosperity.

No more wars. The economy will recover and with the introduction of alternattive fuel energy, the economy will skyrocket. Then all national debt will be wiped clean.

A long season of peace and prosperity is ahead. DO NOT DESPAIR, AMERICA. Better days are ahead!

Aren't the concepts of "Change" and "Maverick" the polar opposites of "Conservative", which means to stay the same and not rock the boat?

Maybe I've asked you this before, Tacky, but is it difficult to type while wearing a straitjacket?

Of course not. Carlos Zambrano pointed to god every time he struck out a batter but he never shook his fist at god when the cubs were eliminated in 3 games.

Oh yeah, I just love all the "pray-ers" in pro sports. They are almost as bad as dummies that pray for "their" team to win. Almost.

Voting 91% of the time with Bush = 9% chance of change.

Throw in the corruption of the Keating 5, Troopergate, Per Diem's, etc. chance of change from the righturds drops to 0%.

"Republican Says Bush Panders To the 'Agents of Intolerance' : McCain Takes Aim At Religious Right
By Brian KnowltonPublished: TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2000
WASHINGTON: Senator John McCain, in a provocative and politically risky speech, sharply criticized leaders of the religious right on Monday as "agents of intolerance" allied to his rival, Governor George W. Bush, and denounced what he said were the tactics of "division and slander."

"The White House will become a house of prayer --- though policies will strictly still (Insert Palin wink here) abide by the Constitution."

I watched some show on Court TV (or whatever it's called now). Every time before a mission the various SWAT Teams or DEA teams say a "group prayer". It drives me fucking crazy.

I always hope that one of the praying team-members gets shot just to shake things up.

The economy will recover and with the introduction of alternattive fuel energy, the economy will skyrocket.

Ohhhhh, you mean the stuff that republican oil men have been squashing for years.

"McCain's 50 Votes Against Clean Energy

At the democratic convention last month, Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer said Republican presidential nominee John McCain's congressional actions on clean energy and environmental protection were inconsistent with his campaign promises of environmental stewardship .

"John McCain voted 25 times against renewable and alternative energy. Against clean biofuels. Against solar power. Against wind energy."

After the speech, most news coverage relied on this AP FactCheck article disputing the general concept, while not actually refuting the vote tally. But closer scrutiny of his record reveals that he voted against sustainable legislation or said he would have done so more than 50 times, as listed below."

We all welcome President Obama, takitez.

If mccadaver wins, Joe converts to baptist and gets in thew cabinet.
If McCadaver loses, Joe blames them for choosing the wrong messiah.

Or is that moosiah?

so joe was in town today. i guess that explains the black clouds.

"The White House will become a house of prayer --- though policies will strictly still abide by the Constitution. Bush was called into the White House for the war."

TakeIt's finest moment. Prayer AND constitution; ignore that amendment with the number "1."

"Now the next President will be called into the White House to bring reform and peace and prosperity. No more wars. The economy will recover and with the introduction of alternattive fuel energy, the economy will skyrocket. Then all national debt will be wiped clean."

I take it TakeIt will vote for Obama. And make it unanimous. herm

Seriously folks. This brand of craziness can't be allowed into the white house. If you thought the unqualified morons Bush put into place were bad enough, just imagine Sarah appointing her witch doctor to a cabinet position.

With Satan's help, Obama will win.

"Ironic! Joe's god or Sarah's god?" Posted by Herm

Herm - Sarah's "god" wants Joe Liebermann to end up a charred cinder in the midst of a destroyed Jersusalem. That's her vision of the End of Days. All who do not accept Christ as their Savior will burn in Hell. The ONLY reason she gives a hoot about Israel is because she believes it will be site of the Final Battle. Too bad Liebermann hasn't gotten this figured out yet - he is SUCH an embarassment!

And THIS is the woman people think is capable of becoming President? She thinks the End of Days will come during her lifetime. Especially if she gets anywhere NEAR the Oval Office!

Lieberman reminds me of Droopy the Dog. Talks like him, too.

With god's help. This crazy skank is doing what mccain wasn't able to do: openly attack obama with inaccurate statements and accusations combined with fundy batshit rhetoric. And it WILL work because most of the electorate is as dumb as the rest of the world believes it to be.

If the republicans want to make her the star of the show, then the democrats should launch an all-out assault on the bitch: fundy beliefs, man walking with dinosaurs, belonging to a group that wants to split from the u.s., linked with pastor crazy-as-batshit wanting to bash evil jews controlling the economy, witchproofed, troopergate, flip-floppin' liar, pregnant unmarried teen daughter, man the ammunition keeps on coming.

This woman is a disaster waiting to happen. What is frightening is that many in the u.s. want to put her in a position to unleash her insanity on the world.

Wow, God is really pro-active these days. And pro-republican too.

We haven't heard from him in what, 4 years now, and then we learn that he wants Sarah to build a pipeline and he wants us to invade iraq. And now we find out that he is gonna get Palin elected.

Ever notice how God only talks to the same old tired wind-bags?

It's kind of like UFO's only appearing to rednecks in the deep woods who have been smoking meth with their sister/wife.

Takeitez, has God ever told you anything, specifically? Don't lie, cause He will know.

A long season of peace and prosperity is ahead. DO NOT DESPAIR, AMERICA. Better days are ahead!

Wow, this guy really is a nut job. I thought he was just pretending before.

The God Joe believes in and also the real God wants Sarah to be the Vice, is how I think she would put it.

Somone need to show Takeashitski some polls today. McSame and Plain's numbers are plummeting faster than the stock market.

Obama's are going up.

Jeb, Kathleen, Rove, O'Connell, SCOTUS and others managed to pull off two stolen elections, and no one did anything.

Gonzales, Miers, Rove, O'Connell and others refuse to honor sepinas; Dick & George refused to testify under oath, and nobody's done a dman thing about that either.

A third steal is in progress. Why not? Nobody will do shit, even if they do, SCOTUS will offer them an escape door, like they've already done for Cheney and Exxon.

I laugh at the clowns who think Jesus gives 2 shits about who wins, whether it be politics or the Superbowl. He doesn't care!

All of these clowns rank right up there with people who pray for cash.

The White House will become a house of prayer...

And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then. And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust." And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.

" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah?"

No, you get a phunny phlagg.

Or phunny bunny phlagg.

God hates libs!

Fwthom- Mother nature obviously hated you.

Since Palin's nomination Ike hit Galveston and the economy melted down. Is God sending mixed messages?

God is neither dem nor repub. He doesn't care about parties. In a way, as far as the White House is concerned, God does not really care whether a Christian or a non-Christian is in it. All He cares is a man/woman of integrity who will lead the nation with integrity and righteousness.

That said, I find liberals to be skeptical and suspicious and insulting to the things of God. Sad and at the same time its hilarious to see liberals going berserk --- plenty evidence in thses drudge posts day in and day out. Berserk liberals.

"I find liberals to be skeptical and suspicious and insulting to the things of God."

God finds you to be skeptical and suspicious and insulting to the things of Him. Especially your assertion that God would even care about who leads any nation on His planet.

Since it is trivially obvious there is no god, I find that post to be bullshit from the church of the presumptuous assumption.

Some liberals are seriously working to close the God gap --- that one can be both a Christian and liberal. Need some doing.

It's very difficult to get elected for anything in America if you don't say you believe in God and go to church so we have to go through this litmus test every four years. Does Palin believe in God and go to church? You betcha. Does that alone qualify her to be VP or President? Did it qualify Bush? If you're a fundie, yes.

I can't think of another real democracy with Christian roots where so many people care whether the candidates believe in God or go to church.

I could name quite a few non-Democracies that care.

The White House will become a house of prayer --- though policies will strictly still abide by the Constitution.

Sorry, Tak, but it needs to be said.

You are a loon.

"... one can be both a Christian and liberal."

This guy Jesus surely was one. Same color as Barack too. Talked about rich folks not getting into heaven, giving your clothes to the poor, that kinda shit. Wound up - as libs usually do - on a cross. herm

"Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said:
"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.

21 He changes times and seasons;
he sets up kings and deposes them.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.

22 He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him."

Daniel 2:19-22

"3 Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him."

Psalm 115:3

"5 I am the LORD, and there is no other;
apart from me there is no God.
I will strengthen you,
though you have not acknowledged me,

6 so that from the rising of the sun
to the place of its setting
men may know there is none besides me.
I am the LORD, and there is no other.

7 I form the light and create darkness,
I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the LORD, do all these things."

Isaiah 45:5-7

God is sovereign. He uses secondary causes and means to fulfill His will. It will be interesting to see who He raises up to be the next President; however, since it is likely that we are reaping the consequences of the defiance we have sown, whoever is elected will preside over a nation under judgment. Without His grace and mercy, it's going to be ugly.

Just to poke the stick in the eye, since I'm feeling grumpy and contrary:

"1 The fool [a] says in his heart,

Fool = an individual incapable of spiritual discernment, regardless of how intelligent he otherwise may be.

PANCHO I understand your fear but I have talked to more than a few Republicans now who specifically are not voting for McCain because of Sarah Palin. She is going to lose the election for McCain (with a little help from reality). This is a good thing because not only will she lose the election big for him but destroy any future chance she ever had of returning to the national stage. Hopefully, she has already destroyed her reputation in Alaska and will be back fishing for a living.

Sarah will be going back to Alaska November 5th and God will have no hand in it. The American people will.

"Sarah will be going back to Alaska November 5th"

Oddly enough, that date coincides with the opening of the three-week-long Witch Hunt on Ice competition/festival. Limit: 7 witches per chopper team.

I guess I always keep coming back to the idea that a politician who invokes God is either a liar or an ignoramus.

The year is 2008 and people should realize by now that Man created God and not the other way around.

With God's track-record on "talking" to conservatives, I guess it's better than "God told me Palin would win."

Stupid Goyim

2004.... 37 million evangelicals voted --- 87% for Bush and 13% for Kerrey. (7 millions evangelicals didn't bother to vote).

2008.... 40 million evangelicals is expected to vote. The quiet voters.

Evangelicals are American people too --- but not as noisy as some rabid liberals. And maybe they troll the net less and are hardly viewed positively in the liberal media. The quiet voters.

Some people take comfort in polls, I take quiet confidence in God.

"I take quiet confidence in God."

What is God confidently saying via an Obama win?

Extinction is long over due. This gene pool has been fully, conspicuously contaminated.

Sorry, the bag limit is 2 witches per day, and they must have the appropriate kill wounds and tags. Headless corpses will be confiscated as illegal poaching.
The following items should assist in identifying your prey: crosses, crecsents and stars, etc; adorning the torso and extremities, possession of bibles, talmuds, korans, *other religious writ.
The general form of death for all witches shall be stoning, hanging and burning. Firearms wounds denote poaching, corpses to be confiscated.
"Canned" hunts ( churches, synogogues, mosques, temples) are prohibited, see "poaching".

Licence fees:

Resident - $10.00 U.S. $5.00 U.S. each additional tag. No limit.
Non-resident - $500.00 U.S. $5.00 U.S each additional tag. No limit.
Alien resident - how would we know? Lets talk.

The penalty for all forms of poaching are a fine ($25.00 U.S.) and confiscation of all un-used tags for that calender year.

I will accept as President whoever wins --- unlike the misguided liberals who still believe in lies about Bush stealing the elections.

But I have an unshakable inclination that McCain will be the 44th.

it appears that Palin is driving Obama's numbers up, maybe God is doing that!

Ah, so you aren't just a phony astroturfer, you're a phony Christian, too. How (not) surprising.

Obama now at 9 point lead in Gallup, thanks Sarah, you did your part!

"I will accept as President whoever wins --- unlike the misguided liberals who still believe in lies about Bush stealing the elections."

Whoever wins FAIRLY, Takeit? Lies? Florida 2000 and Ohio 2008 shouldn't count?

Faith, Takeit? In a sermon I did years ago, I defined faith as the ability to believe that which common sense tells you cannot possibly be true. Get used to "President Obama." herm

Looks to me like God wants Obama to win what with God destroying our economy and all just before the Election.

Are evangelicals taught hate and fear in their churches?

It seems that way since they are always afraid (of liberals or logical reasoning, other countries and cultures, anybody who does not look like them) and most definitely always hate (on liberals or logical reasoning, other countries and cultures, anybody who does not look like them).

"God is neither dem nor repub."

Yeah, but Jesus was a communist.

Herm, I didn't know that you could do a sermon.

Yeah, the Israelites thought all was lost and they were about to stone Moses, and then something happened --- the Red Sea parted.

Now everyone is crowing Obama won, Obama won, look at the polls.....

Let's wait and see....

Maverick? Really? It was a popular low-end model in its day, but how many of them are left on the road now?

Besides, Maverick is dangerous. He wouldn't stay put when he was Ice's wingman, and he killed his own weapons officer.

TakeitSleazy prays for a Miracle to keep that nasty Black Man out of office.

Jesus was probably black too did you know? Maybe your God loves black people more than whites after all?

Now that would be ironic!

Joe Loserman makes Zell Miller look sane in direct comparison.

A vote fer McCadaver/Failin is a vote fer a third front in The War Against Terrorism.

Loserman is so deeply invested in making sure America fights Israel's proxy wars he's lost wot little sense he had left.

Fortunately we have none of those running for President just now.

But, you could vote for someone with a proven track history of Poor Judgment.

We do have one of those!

I bet with YOUR "poor judgment" you will vote for him right?

FACT!

Faith, Takeit? In a sermon I did years ago, I defined faith as the ability to believe that which common sense tells you cannot possibly be true.

"Faith" has got to be one of the most misunderstood and misused words in the English language, second only to "love."

Faith is accepting something as truth without resorting to some kind of test of validity.

Common sense will tell you that the reality is that faith (in the broadest definition possible) in something that precedes any statement of truth.

Credo ut intelligam--I believe so that I may understand.

All so called proofs or logical deduction all begin with an assumption or a given--something one must accept as true without question in order to get to the conclusion.

When you examine knowledge one realizes that there is no such thing as certainty. To profess something, anything, as a truth requires some degree of accepting something as a matter of faith-It may be something as simple or basic as reliability of your senses or the validity of memory or it may be the faith that you have in others--the knowledge that doctors give you or the professing of love that your spouse gives you. Still they are all leaps of faith.

We makes thousands of leaps of faith every day in regard to our understanding of our experiences. That common sense even exists relies on faith in something we might call collective wisdom.

The difference between the various ideas or beliefs (from religious to scientific to personal) that we think constitutes truth relies on our own individual perceptions of the distance the leap of faith is that is required to accept the particular idea and our own arbitrary belief on how far should we or anyone jump in order to reach a truth.
Rest assured, however, we all jump.

In particular a belief in a deity is for some too far a leap to make. Others do not see it as far at all.

Sometimes what is more interesting than what we believe in but an examination of what we put our faith in--what jumps we have made without even realizing it.

Cheers

If you're McCain tonight, how negative to you go?

#100 | Posted by OohRah at 2008-10-07 05:09 PM

My bet is Mccain cannot go negative with Obama standing right there to defend himself as everything McBush says will be turned against him.

Mostly because All those "negatives" are just bad distortions of the truth. So, all Obama has to do is throw the truth back at Bush Jr and the Fact Checkers will do the rest. I bet McCain doesn't want any Fact Checking! All his zingers will get ruined!

I dare McBush to say Obama was "pals with a domestic terrorist" on the stage tonight. Won't happen. Why?

We know that Sarah pals around with her husband and he is a "domestic terrorist", too. [[See AIP Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."]]

McCain pals around with them too! [[see Oliver North and weapons sales to Iran or Iran-Contra]]

Oliver North was a "domestic terrorist" too! (I wonder how many of those weapons he sold were used against Americans in Iraq?)

I for one hope he does go "negative". Obama will shred him to pieces! So, here is to a good public shredding of McBush tonite!

... Obama will shred him to pieces.... hehehehe.... oh, these Koolaid drinkers think Obama is now all-powerful. The one, huh?

"When you examine knowledge one realizes that there is no such thing as certainty."

Do we exist?

I think therefore I am.

Therefore I exist.

zero is nothing i.e. it describes that which does not exist

1 is some thing it describes something that does exist

if 1 exists then 2 exists

because 1 + 1 always equals 2

this is true

it seems are wrong

so "To profess something, anything, as a truth requires some degree of accepting something as a matter of faith" is not true when it come to logic

that some things exist does not require any faith.

The number one exists because it does.

That is LOGOS

you are trying argue PATHOS... just like Palin.

ha ha ha YOU have been THUNDERSTRUCK!!!

Donner has a God complex!

FACTORAMA!!!!!

i probably can't call you joe

Please, please, McCain... give us some reasons to vote FOR you and not simply vote against Obama and/or vote for Palin. Show a desire to take on your political opponent.

ouch! now that would be way too reasonable! Probably won't happen because the actual facts are against McCain. Though I would love to see a REAL debate. Again, don't think it will happen. Americans probably couldn't take the Truth anyway. So you probably won't see much of THAT.

but

MCCAIN=BUSH and there ain't no changin that no matter how much Mr Magoo weasels and squirms and tries to avoid speaking of him that shall not be named.

And this country cannot make it through four more years of Bush policy. Hell, we will be lucky to make it to Jan 2009!

FUTURAMA!!!!!

Donner,

I will grant Descarte's cogito ergo sum.

Beyond that I do not think much else, if anything, is known with certainty.

if 1 exists then 2 exists

Prove it. Even if you did, you would still have to wrestle with this: the "number one" is an idea; and ideas do not have empirical reality. They exist only in your mind--not in the external reality.

In fact all things that you assume are separate from you--everything that is not one--may actually be a simple extension of yourself and your mind. In that case there is only one--everything else is an illusion.

You put your faith in language and logic--indeed the logos--but you don't realize it.

That you accept logic as beyond faith is and act of faith in itself.

Consider this: that in order to test the validity/accuracy of something you need a tool that is not the thing itself. You cannot, for example, gauge the accuracy of ruler by measuring it against itself. This is logical.

By what tool do you gauge the validity of logic? To do so, you will have to resort to something that is not logic.

you are trying argue PATHOS... just like Palin.

What an odd comment. I have no desire to politicize this discussion of the notion of faith. Such discussions exist long before Sara Palin and will exist long after.

I am not simply arguing pathos. I am arguing in terms of epistemology. (Please note the root word of the last syllable of this term.)

I am an ardent supporter of a rational and logical methods epistemology, but I do so knowing quite fully that this epistemology rests on something else. What that is--is a matter of faith.

I believe in the logos.

I think those who devote themselves to a pure logical and rationale approach, however, often kid themselves into thinking that it is immutable and beyond question.

Whether you are a religious zealot or a cold rationalist, no one likes the foundations of their faith attacked.

The one thing that humanity craves is certainty. This will always be elusive.

Cheers

"Those who devoate themselves to a pure logical and rational approach often kid themselves that is immutable and betond question...."

Yes. But first they have to kid themselves the are logical and coldly rational.

" betond(sic) question...."

What?

" I have been touched by his Holy Noodle!

I have a question about the beer volcano: Is it Stella Artois or Schlitz?

"Lieberman: Palin Will Win 'With God's Help'"?

Don't worry, there is no god!

Zat, I think the Beer Volcano is actually Spaten Optimator. But that's just a guess.

Prove it. Even if you did, you would still have to wrestle with this: the "number one" is an idea; and ideas do not have empirical reality. They exist only in your mind--not in the external reality.

I love hearing from Grendel! If nothing else he is very thoughtful indeed!

Math is pure logic. Which is why I probably love it (though there are some that remind me that I am not very good at it!)

Let's try this again and you tell me where I am wrong.

I exist do you deny this? Either something exists or it does not exist. I can prove something exists but I cannot prove that something does not exist.

It matters not whether I am an illusion or whether I am actually running in a computer program (such as the matrix) or not.

I think..therefore I am.

I exist (it matters not where I exist).

the number one exists (whether in my mind or physically it does not matter!)

I don't need faith to "believe" this. It CAN be proved (even if only in my mind if that is all that is)

It is indisputable and does not require ANY faith.

And really, if we do not exist physically and we are but a dream (or virtual) then none of it really matters anyway does it?

The Pathos/Palin comment was just a blog-digg...so sorry for that! This is a political blog after all. You are actually pretty logical and rational. And I like that! However, I do think you rely on Pathos too much. You have to start with some known value to build upon. To me that needs logic not faith. So, we start with Logos and proceed into Pathos after agreeing on the basis of reality (if we can).

However, if we cannot agree on the basis of reality there is no basis for discussion. Then it is indeed all "faith" at least on your part.

If we cannot agree that the number one "exists" (whether physically or virtually) then we cannot proceed onto whether it is true that 2 also exists.

I am pretty sure that it has been proved that 1 "exists" and I don't need a "one" to measure another "one" against. see Peano Axioms

"One" is some-thing and no-thing is "zero" (or whatever you wish to call "it". You can say I have "faith" that one exists. I would say that I can prove that the number "one" exists within the logic and understanding of the nature of this Universe.

I really still don't see where "faith" is involved in this understanding at all.

We have had this Faith vs logic discussion before. It is a good one!

Cheers to you Grendel!

the 2-party system will soon die.

Eddie, not soon enough. Not nearly soon enough.

"Betond..."

What twirlers twirl.

Donner,

Thanks for the response. I have some quick points to make and must call it a night.

I exist do you deny this?

I do not deny it, but for me to accept it requires a leap of faith.

I cannot deny that I exist, but I cannot prove with absolute certainty that anyone else does or that anything beyond my individual experience has any reality.

Your belief in logic is dependent upon your interpretation of those external stimuli.

Here is a another question for you, does logic depend upon the existence of the reality?

Which came first?

Did mathematical logic dictate how the universe was going to operate before the universe? Did the universe come into existence according to the rules of logic? If so, who or what is the origin or creator of logic. Where did logic come from?

Or are logical operations a development of the universe or perhaps even merely a human system by which we explain what we observe?

In other words in relation to reality, is logic prescriptive or merely descriptive?

don't need faith to "believe" this. It CAN be proved (even if only in my mind if that is all that is)

That you use the word "proved" points to your reliance on logic to discern truth. You have faith in it and accept it without question.

You accept logic based upon you observations of reality while at the same time you rely on logic to explain reality. The dog has caught its tail.

I enjoyed the conversation too.

Cheers

*I* only know that *I* exist. You other guys are shills. Republican plants. herm

Start prayinng Joe, your dynamic duo is in the toilet. They can't talk issues too busy trying to smear the better man Senator Obama. Maybe Palin willl get raped by McCain and have his baby.

Sarah is in dire need of God's help; but not to win an election.

My bet is Mccain cannot go negative with Obama standing right there to defend himself as everything McBush says will be turned against him.

You are sooo.. right. Both sides stretch the truth but the right seems to adore the tactic of putting words in their opponents mouths and then condeming those words. Or, they ascribe a certain behavior to their opponents and then condems the behavior! If their opponents ever uttered those words or exhibited the behavior then they should be condemned. This tactic seems to be especially effective with small minded audiences.

And, as you have correctly pointed out, that tactic won't work if the person they are talking about is onhand to refute the charges.

"When you examine knowledge one realizes that there is no such thing as certainty." - Grendel

Or does it mean that one merely hasn't gotten to the point where one can establish certainty, that faith equals ignorance. And this does not prove that there is no certainty. Seems to me the baseline concept is that there is some certainty and we strive to understand it.

I think the entire argument that everything is based on faith as a starting point is both self-defeating and meaningless. It relies on a reducio ad _very_ absurbum which, when carried to its logic extreme, says that we can in no way even establish that the argument exists. It's also meaningless in that we _must_ contend with the universe and our place in it, whether that universe is a figment of its own (or God's) imagination or not. If we get hit by a 2x4, we feel pain, regardless of whether that may be a figment of an imagination or not. Thus, starting off by stating that there is no certainty points only to a quantum mechanics approach to reality. That is, we know something works because it does. But we can't possibly know how. Meaningless, because we seem to wind up replicating various processes. And this depends on things which must have some certainty. And we can explain how various things work, same dependency.

Here is a another question for you, does logic depend upon the existence of the reality?

No.. logic does not "require" reality. You see it does not matter if YOU exist (maybe I AM just talking to myself in some extravagant computer simulation or maybe I am hooked up to life support and just dreaming this "reality"). Who cares I can't tell so it matters not.

You see it does not matter. I think therefore I am.

The "reality" of this does not matter.

SO...

If I exist then something exists! That something is one thing... therefore the "number" one does exist...me!

(hah! I just proved I am number 1!...j/k)

So, zero exists by default. Interestingly we did not invent 1 or zero.

WE DISCOVERED THEM. They exist outside of us. So there must be an "outside reality" but that is harder to "prove".

Did mathematical logic dictate how the universe was going to operate before the universe? Did the universe come into existence according to the rules of logic? If so, who or what is the origin or creator of logic. Where did logic come from?

whoooaa nelly! Too fast... we are still trying to "prove" that the number one exists and that "faith" had nothing to do with it.

If you like I can extrapolate that because the number one exists and that we did not invent it (in our heads) but discovered it then we could prove that the Laws of the Universe exist and that we "discovered" them too. But, to do so would require huge proofs of each foundational knowledge starting at the number one and working our way up through the proofs until we got to quantum mechanics.

This would take a while. I have stuff to do.

But, by using reason and logic and understanding and by building upon the "fact" that WE, indeed, do exist we can also "prove" that "reality" also exists.

"You accept logic based upon you(r) observations of reality while at the same time you rely on logic to explain reality. The dog has caught its tail."

This is an interesting dilemma and looks to be a paradox but, in fact, we can avoid this trap by starting with what we CAN know and working upon that Knowledge.

so what CAN we KNOW?

Well, we know that we exist.

I think therefore I am.

I mean if that is not true then none of our "Knowledge" matters anyway does it?

so is it "faith" that we exist or logic?

I say logic.

And now I will skip WAY ahead to God.

Just as we don't really care whether "reality" exists we don't have to care whether God exists.

If God exists he is because he is. Why should I look for God when He is all powerful invented the Universe and can find me much more easily than I can find Him. Hell, as you point out we are having trouble with proving WE exist much less whether God exists.

Therefore, I have personally concluded that if God wants me to be aware of him and understand or LOVE him it is HIS responsibility to prove He exists...not me. Hence, I have stopped trying determine whether a God exists or not. Life is too short. (and did God do that on purpose?) If He is in charge of the Universe then It his his responsibility to contact me. And I haven't heard from the dude yet. And to all you Jesus Freaks that will say God sent Jesus you need to remember and understand that the bible is not considered proof of anything except Man's wonderful imagination.

What would be proof of God? Well, that is a good question and i am not sure if I would recognize a God if I encountered one.

Again.. if a God exists he should know how to handle this.

So, thanks for the mind exercise and Grendel, and stay away from Beowulf! It won't turn out well for you if he finds you!

What a great story.

No.. logic does not "require" reality. You see it does not matter if YOU exist

I disagree. While it is not dependent upon my individual existence, it is dependent upon existence itself. Human beings arrived at the rules of logic by observing how reality works.

In turn then we use it to explain reality. This was my point about the dog catching its tale.

You take your own existence (cogito ergo sum) as undeniable existence of the number one. But you then make the leap that number two exists but there is something that is not you. Yet you the idea of nothing and the idea of something may be nothing more than ideas--undeniably realities. You cannot truly experience nothing for that would negate yourself and you truly do not know if anything which you believe is other is merely an extension of your own mind. There may be no such thing as other, therefore no such thing as two.

I will certainly admit that in this area I am truly little more than a dilettante. I do, however, have a very good friend who can rightfully carry the label of philosopher. At the moment he is studying Heidegger, but he is also extremely well versed in logic. I plan on running some of this conversation by him and to get his input. I will let you know.

Thank you for giving me some great stuff to think about.

But, by using reason and logic and understanding and by building upon the "fact" that WE, indeed, do exist we can also "prove" that "reality" also exists.

There are, indeed, proofs for objective reality, but I do not think that philosophers have agreed that they are perfectly valid and that it is a settled question.

There is a reasonable response to this. But it is late and I have some things to do before turning it. Remind me at some future point to bring it up.

Thanks for the warning about Beowulf. I have managed to avoid him so far!

Cheers

There are, indeed, proofs for objective reality, but I do not think that philosophers have agreed that they are perfectly valid and that it is a settled question.

it is indeed true that it is NOT a settled question by any means. But, when it is settled I will bet that we will BOTH be surprised by the "answer".

take care friend Grendel!

This is asking a lot of overtime of God. It is one thing to be the creator of the cosmic all and another to make the McCain/Palin ticket win the election.

I do not deny it, but for me to accept it requires a leap of faith.

A leap? Pfft.

You proved it by responding.
