Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Wednesday, October 01, 2008

A federal appeals court panel has approved same-day registration and voting in Ohio, rejecting a Republican challenge. The ruling, by the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, came a day after lower state and federal courts also blocked GOP efforts to either stop same-day registration and voting or require those ballots to be segregated and verified.

These ballots will be segregated before counted now how could that lead to voter fraud. There are many other states that have same day voter registration but the GOP targeted Ohio as it was a battleground state. Because the GOP lost a lawsuit regarding voter caging in Ohio there looking for anything they can to stop the Dems from getting this state legally in the election.
McCain is sinking and he will be scratching and attempting to draw blood all the way til the evening of November 4th when it will be officially over for McCain.

It's not like these votes will be counted before OH's Secretary of State calls the election anyway.

Ohio is pretty conservative. Even counting Columbus and Cleveland. I'd be surprised if it didn't go McCain.

The Dems are evidently pretty good at the "get out the vote" campaign..

I don't like quickee vote deals at all, regardless of which party is doing it.

Voting is a privilege.. and if you're too unconcerned to be bothered, its fine with me if you don't vote. How informed could you be if you have to be bussed from a rock concert to vote? (or a homeless shelter as has been reported)

Frankly, I'm pretty tired of this campaign.. how any intelligent person could still be undecided is beyond me.. it isn't like we need to hear either BarackO or McCain's position on anything..

If you're informed at all, you've already made your decision, and unless we find out that one of them is secretly an axe-murderer, what else could anyone possibly want to know about either of them at this point?

Shorter Campaigns! Please.. OH, and I'm voting for McCain.. I decided that some time back.. just like the Barack Fans here decided a long time back who they were backing.. Who can be undecided?

HC,

I would just like the voting machines to be distributed based on registered voters to avoid the problems in 2004.

This allows students to register and vote in the same day, which is a huge plus for Obama.

I find it hilarious that some people actually think McSame has a chance to win this election.

Pasty faced over-priviledged little rich kid brat. Had he not been a war hero (ahem), he would only get 10 or 12 votes and those would be from his family members.

Ohio is not going McCain! Most of the conservatives in Ohio were supporting Huckabee - they despise McCain.

Ohio is one of the few states where Bob Barr is pulling double digits becasue the conservatives dont like McCain.

Voters in Ohio are REAL SOUR on the GOP BRAND NAME right now. Obama has really hit home with this economic crisis issue. Voters are not impressed by McCains grandstanding.

New polls out today show Obama over 50% of likely voters in Ohio, PA and Florida!

Pasty faced over-priviledged little rich kid brat.
Lipzoidial

Vs. The Black faced over-priviledged, uppity empy suit?

Rich kid...Yeah, that's how I'd describe all of the military brats I've ever met.

Where do you freaks come from?

That was only one of Ohio's problems in '04.

"I find it hilarious that some people actually think McSame has a chance to win this election."

Large leads have been lost before. I will not be counting my chickens til they hatch.

I believe the homeless should have the same right to vote as everyone else. I'm amazed any American would think otherwise.

Where did you go to school?

"Rich kid...Yeah, that's how I'd describe all of the military brats I've ever met.

Where do you freaks come from?"

I'm asking because I really don't know and want to.....

Do admirals and generals make good money? I always thought it has to be well into six figures....

I believe the homeless should have the same right to vote as everyone else. I'm amazed any American would think otherwise.
Yeah, especially those guys that wrote the constitution and bill of rights. What were they thinking? How could they have beleived no one had a "right" to vote in a presidential election. They must have been repulitards.

"They must have been repulitards."

Not so.
They were by and large members of the colonial era elite.
They owned slaves.
They believed American Indians weren't citizens.
They lived in a different time.
A time so unlike ours that it was a different place.
Stop using the "Founding Fathers" as a crutch.

I'm asking because I really don't know and want to.....

They do make 6 figures once all of the different allowances are figured in.
What is often overlooked is the fact a new officer with a family doesn't make shit for the first 15 to 20 years and they live in shit housing.
By the time "dad" makes his bucks the child is an adult.

So for the first 15 (being generous) years the child is growing up low income, then low middle, then middle class. Moving every 2 to 3 years, no father figure present (because he's deployed or working obscene hours), and living in a fish bowl of a community. Not what most people would consider rich or priviledged.

www.militaryfactory.com

Sully,
The pay scale is in the link.
It sounds like a deflection or an excuse, but you have to keep in mind that in a military family dad isn't around much, which makes it hard for "mom" to work and run the household. Also, "mom" moves every 2 to 3 years and would have a hard time landing a steady job that pays well, so we're talking single income families for the most part (waitressing, bar tending, stripping...aside)

Oh, great.

If this was any other state but Ohio (or Florida), I wouldn't worry too much, but the stage is being set for another loophole the Repubs will drive a semi through. They're pissing and moaning publicly, but I'm willing to bet there's already a plan in place to turn this into a bonanza of same-day registration votes for McThusaleh. Voting-machine fraud is so 2004, you know?

I am pretty sure pancho did not even go to college.

101 - I never thought McCain grew up in a mansion or anything. But I figured he was better off than most. That isn't really "rich" in the sense the term is most often used.

That he married into money has been posted here so many times that I'm not sure how anyone wouldn't know that.

Not what most people would consider rich or priviledged.

gosh you are right! he was not really a lil Richie... he IS a Mr Magoo now tho...

I think everyone knows it. I'm not sure how that equates in to being a priviledged brat or being called a rich kid.

It was fun to poke Kerry with marrying rich, and it's fun to bag on McCain for it, but both parties doing it know it's stupid and meaningless.

he IS a Mr Magoo now tho...

Please explain.

That he married into money has been posted here so many times that I'm not sure how anyone wouldn't know that.
I don't remember 'marrying' into money being an issue when John f'in Kerry was your boy.

I think what is impressive about this election is something I saw on the news about the early voting in Ohio. College kids actually lined up overnight to get a chance to be first to vote as soon as the early voting places were open. They swarmed in when the doors were open with their blankets still over their shoulders from sleeping in line overnight. This wasn't Best Buy when the new Ipod was going on sale, this wasn't the movies when the new Batman came out. THIS WAS A VOTING PLACE and they waited in line overnight to get a chance to vote. You have got to love that.

PS) so much for the "youth vote never comes out" meme.

"I don't remember 'marrying' into money being an issue when John f'in Kerry was your boy."

When did I say it was an issue, Go-down-cowboy?

I only mentioned it because people are saying he grew up rich when its common knowledge that he wasn't rich until he married the wife he has now.

And I was never a big Kerry fan and haven't said anything positive about him on this site ever - unless you count my saying that voting for him posed little risk because it was hard to imagine him (or anyone else) being worse than his opponent.

on topic- it is interesting to me how it is alway the Repubs that are against easier voter registration and anything that makes it easier to vote.

So why is it that we HAVE to vote on one day and one day only? (yes, I know we have absentee ballots...maybe we should all just vote absentee?). Why can't voting take place over a week or several days? Did you know that an 18 percent increased risk of death occurs on voting day? About 800 extra people suffer serious injury that day.

www.cnn.com

Or why can't voting be on a Saturday or Sunday or even the whole weekend?

Things have changed since we started voting in this country and there are more people voting that ever. (though it is still less proportionally than other countries) Even though it's less populous, Canada typically has a higher voter turnout than America. (yea Spud!)

Perhaps we should revamp our voting rules to make it easier to vote. Oh, I forget! Higher voter turnout typically benefits the Democrats. And the Rethugs won't stand for that!

he IS a Mr Magoo now tho...

Please explain.

You don't see the resemblance? They look and act so much alike!

The squinting eyes, swaggering ignorance... Mr Magoo was a rich fool completely out of touch with the world around him.

Just like McCain.

"C" students make the world go round Ben. "A" students teach classes and write books about how there LSD use "enlightened" them.

"C" students get things done. "A" students go to protests and have wine parties. Make that whine parties.

"C" students go out and work for a living. "A" students wait for grant money to research why a tomato plant feels pain.

Over generalizations of course. Ted Turner was a "C" student who did not graduate from college. Here are a few more who did not graduate:

Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, Grover Cleveland, Harry S Truman, Mark Twain, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, Gore Vidal.

El Cid makes the case fer mediocrity?

Guess he gets plenty of practise at night.

The inculcated fear of smart folks that exists in America is an unfortunate thing. Hopefully, after 8 years of a retarded chimp fucking up everything he touched a lot more people have gotten over that.

MR MAGOO would run the country better than the fucking CHIMP currently masquarading as US PRESIDENT!

I don't have a problem with same day voter registration as long as the registrations are checked and confirmed to be authentic before the votes can be counted. Plus, a warning needs to be included that anyone falsely filing a registration will be punished to the maximum extent of the law. And, the law must be enforced. Otherwise, it opens the door for massive fraud.

You've never met military brats that were the son's of Admirals making $200,000 a year minimum.

Nobody has. Look dumbass, don't let common sense or facts get in your way, you just keep repeating what others have said.

'"C" students get things done. "A" students go to protests and have wine parties. Make that whine parties.'

Apparently, C students also like to tell really old jokes.

"I believe the homeless should have the same right to vote as everyone else. I'm amazed any American would think otherwise."

Didn't say anything about "rights".. just said that I'd just as soon people that are not concerned about the election enough to vote unless they're bused from a rock concert OR HOMELESS shelter didn't vote.

But, I assume, as an obvious liberal, you know that Libs need the idiot vote to win.. and idiots have rights ...Right?

So, vote them homeless shelters! (liquor em up first and they'll do whatever you say)

Wow all the dead voter's in Cleveland can vote once again.

"Voting is a privilege.. and if you're too unconcerned to be bothered, its fine with me if you don't vote. How informed could you be if you have to be bussed from a rock concert to vote? (or a homeless shelter as has been reported)"

Excuse me- who died and made you boss?

Many people who attend rock concerts are politically active. Many homeles people have something to say about politics and how it affects their lives. These are Americans. Do you know what that means?

As far as needing the 'idiot vote'- look at the current president. The one people would want to have a beer with. Talk about the party of getting liquored up! Look at the current vp candidate. Dinosaurs and humans living together in harmony. Your party currently calls intellectuals 'elites'. You shun intellegence.

You and your party are the laughing stock of the world right now, and you haven't even noticed. What does that make you?

TO ALL ....LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE...FYI only.

George Bush and the republicans have been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.

A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 +
5) American's were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!...

But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes--we got 'CHANGE' all right. In the PAST YEAR:

1) Consumer confidence has plummeted ;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION
DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT
PORTFOLIOS!

As a result of the Democrats blocking the reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the resulting collapse has pushed the lending market to the brink, necessitating a possible 3/4 trillion dollar bailout.

YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE...AND WE SURE GOT IT! .....

REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS.

AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

NOW THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE IS GOING TO REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!!

JUST HOW MUCH MORE 'CHANGE' DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND?

"The first six the economy was fine."

The same way six years of maxing out charge cards would seem "fine".

Did you notice those six years contained the largest deficits known to man to that point, or were you napping?
