Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

John McCain says he's directing his staff to work with Barack Obama's campaign to delay Friday's presidential debate because of the economic crisis. The Republican presidential hopeful called Obama before he made the statement and told him he was going to suspend his campaign, according to a McCain senior adviser, to create a "political free zone" until the bailout deal is reached.

McCain's getting more and more ridiculous, day by day.

He is pulling a Carter.

It is almost sad to watch him give up like this.

Postpone the debates??? Right when America is hungry to know what the two candidates think about all of this. Personally I want the subject of the debate changed to be about the economy.

Desn't this mean that in essence McCain is saying Obama is better than He is??

Typical drivel. If hussein suggested suspending the debate you would have been an enthusiastic supporter.

OMG... I can't stop laughing at "McPoopy Pants"..... oh god thats funny

Its a win/win for both camps.

That way they won't have to field questions about the roles their advisors (Gramm for McCain, Rubin for Obama) played in making this fiasco possible.

They should suspend the whole election. Then when Bush's time is up we can just have a free-for-all. We'd be better off than with one of these nincompoops.

He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now.

McCain is getting beat up so much the past week for being out of touch, ignorant about the economy, having created this mess it is no surprise that he would go into hiding now.

Cue the right to say how leaderlike this is.

"Typical drivel. If hussein suggested suspending the debate you would have been an enthusiastic supporter."

So I guess you know everything you want to about the positions of both candidates on this bailout???
You call me partisan for disagreeing about delaying the debate but then mindlessly attack me for even having an opinion. In truth if I said the sky was blue you'd attack it.

"In a statement, McCain said he will stop campaigning after addressing former President Clinton's Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation's financial problems."
news.yahoo.com

In other words, he's going to suspend his campaign after finishing doing what he was going to do anyway this week?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

"He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now."

You may be right, but I have hard time believing that he is doing this out of a sincere concern for the economy.

GREAAAAT! Now the economic crisis is going to become a political football becasue NO ONE trusts SHRUBIE to get us out of this one.

The BIG CRASH is coming folks. Get your gold ready.

Stock up on food and supplies. This is gonna be UGLY!

Typical drivel.

McCain is a sad excuse for a person. This is a bunch of crap. There are 98 other senators and 300+ other house members and this fool wants to postpone the debate... McCain is scared to lose.

He has to try to change the subject because his campaign is bleeding out. Rick Davis with Fannie Mae, Palin with the troopergate and now the economy and he can't keep up.

Get your old ass out of the race if you can't keep up. There are no Time Outs here.

This is a bunch of crap. Pure politics.

Maybe Johnny Poopy pants doesn't think he can make it thru the debate without "Pooping his pants"

In other words, he's going to suspend his campaign after finishing doing what he was going to do anyway this week?

My friends,
My work as a senator at this
time of economic uncertainty,
albeit I am not versed on the
economy is far more important than
me being made a fool of on Friday by
Obama. It is just not
more important than the other things
I was gonna do. Like eat my
strawberries.

-John "Groundhog" McCain.

He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now.

I couldn't disagree more. McCain and Obama have an opportunity hear to show real presidential leadership *before* an election. They should both be campaigning like hell on the economic crisis, lead the votes on the issue in Congress, and let Americans judge who's right.

McCain looks like he's hiding something here. It seems like a risky stunt.

You may be right, but I have hard time believing that he is doing this out of a sincere concern for the economy.

----

I would rather they both suspend and focus on this issue than putter around giving stump speeches. Here's a chance for them to address and act on the issue instead of blabbering about it.

. . .McCAIN SHITS HIS PANTS - SUSPENDS CAMPAIGN

.......Palin offers Trig's diapers to address crisis.....

"He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now."

If he's really so concerned, he can withdraw as a candidate for President. The RNC can convene and appoint a new nominee.

Pirate, it's a ridiculous stunt...kinda like nominating Palin for Veep.

By this logic, I would only buy the "it's the right thing to do" position if Shrub had similarly postponed his record-setting vacations because we are fighting two simultaneous wars.

Chirp...

Brilliant move! Now Obonehead will be forced to commit to some position on the subject. Then McCain can ask him about those rich fat-cat Republican supporters of Obama who made out with with 140 million dollars from the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac corruption....Franklin Rains and Jim Johnson.

Oh wait a minute, those supporters are also Obama's economic advisors! That would make them Democrats!

Never mind!

This is a bunch of crap. Pure politics.

If this doesn't sink this asshole 20 points in the poll I will be amazed.

Proof's in the pudding. Talk doesn't mean squat (empty campaign promises like gas tax holiday). Real Presidential leadership is accomplishing something...not just talking about it.

What time is the concession speech?

Hmmmmm

Down by 9 pts.
Palin bounce done
Press pissed
Economy in the can
Can't keep on point
About to get my ass handed to me in a debate

Let's take a break

If it's a stunt, then it will show as a stunt. Regardless of their campaigns, these two are still US Senators and have a job to do.

And for the record, I'm not voting for McCain or Obama.

"He has to try to change the subject because his campaign is bleeding out. Rick Davis with Fannie Mae, Palin with the troopergate and now the economy and he can't keep up."

#16 | Posted by shawng1

The debate would have effectively changed the subject as it was about foreign policy, when right now everyone's concern is the economy.

He's actually addressing the concern that is on everyone's mind right now by doing this, though I feel it is probably a political stunt / chickenshitting out of the debate.

"McCain looks like he's hiding something here. It seems like a risky stunt."

Yep, Unca Karl's advice doesn't seem to be what it useta.

I'm taking bets right now with 2;1 odds that they both vote the same way.

My money is with yours on that one.

Lipz - I posted a question to you on the White Supremacist thread.

It is hilarious that McAncient, a self proclaimed "novice" at economic policy, is hightailing it to Washington to deal with an economic crisis.

Can't he say "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" from the campaign anymore?

He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now.

Mr Magoo is afraid that we might actually talk about the "issues" something he is not very good at.

There is no such thing as a time-out in life.

It's the Economy Stupid. So let's talk about it!

No Bailout for the banks!

If we are going to "throw" hundreds of billions of OUR money at this throw some my way please!

Here is an idea....

You know, the "small" bailout now PAST, not the big one(s) coming up.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in
a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000
bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman
and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a
We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife have $595,000.00.

pass it around!

I say let it all fail.

Either way we go it's going to hurt, and hurt bad.

If we let these institutions fail, the economy will suffer longer, but if we bail these assholes out, we'll all be on the line for at least $10,000 per family.

Let it fail.

Donnerboy for President!

McCain has shown leadership here. Malfunction of financial services is no joke and $700 billions is no joke.

Bravo McCain: you are ready to lead.

I think McCain is thus signing on to the bailout though with restrictions just like Obama. This may actually not be a political stunt and the situation could be as dire as the administration says. Like the boy who called wolf too many times our president has no credibility and thus even if he is warning us of a real danger it is hard to believe him.

This "bailout" smacks of a manufactured crisis on the part of Bushco. This bailout has been in the works for at least six months, yet now it is urgently needed?

Do folks really believe Obama the stutterer...the man from 57 states...the man who often doesn't know the name of the city in which he's campaigning....the man who invents names for medical hardware (Inhilator...LOL), is really going to win a debate with McCain?

Both of these Senators should be studying and questioning this bill....it's an important issue and it needs/deserves the full attention of each of them. There two respective votes may indeed be critical to the outcome of this important farce and new precedent that may be set. I do believe the DR commentary would be different had Obama suggested this. On the other hand, I think that politically (note, I said POLITICALLY, yet it is very RESPONSIBLE) speaking....it was a stupid thing for McCain to do.

He may hold the deciding vote on the bailout. You don't think that's an little more important the the other 98?

HELL NO HE WON'T. THIS VOTE WON'T EVEN BE CLOSE. THEY WILL GET SOMETHING PASSED. THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WANTS EVERYTHING WITH NO ACCOUNTABILITY, THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

MCCAIN CAN CALL TIMEOUT BUT AT HIS OWN PERILE. IF I WAS OBAMA, I WOULD GO AND DEBATE MYSELF... F**K JOHN MCCAIN.

NOVEMBER 4TH IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE, THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WILL TAKE PLACE ON THAT DAY.

MCCAIN CAN STALL ALL HE WANTS TO.

Well, Grampy Poopy Pants has probably figured out just how serious this is and understands that he no longer has the mental acuity needed to deal with more than one issue or crisis at a time. I applaud him for understanding his limitations. I worry about what would happen if he had more than one crisis at a time to deal with should, God forbid, he actually become president. Would he try to 'suspend' one crisis to handle the other? And how would he choose which would be more urgent? There is no way McBush is qualified at this point in time to be our president. We've had 8 years of one man unable to do the job. We won't survive another 4!

I already spent my 143 days in the senate, I don't have anymore to do there. - Hussein

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.
- - Obama voter

Do your math again retard. It's $425, not $425k.

Update: The Obama campaign released this statement: "At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama's call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details."

BS. Where's Spain?

The Iraq war was serious too. Sadam Hussein had weapons of Mass destruction

"The Obama campaign said Obama had called McCain around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to propose that they issue a joint statement in support of a package to help fix the economy as soon as possible. McCain called back six hours later and agreed to the idea of the statement, the Obama campaign said. McCain's statement was issued to the media a few minutes later."

It's obvious what happened here. McCain tried to get ahead of the issue by pulling this stunt.

voices.washingtonpost.com

Behind McCain's Decision to Suspend His Campaign
Sen. John McCain's surprise announcement that he would temporarily suspend his campaign to return to Washington to help broker a deal to save the financial industry is the latest of a series of political gambits surrounding the financial crisis on Wall Street, and is sure to reshape the political calculations around the volatile issue.

The move is an obvious attempt by McCain and his campaign to paint the Arizona senator as above politics, willing to put aside his campaign for the good of the country. It also comes as two new national polls -- including one conducted by the Washington Post -- show McCain slipping in the head to head matchup against Barack Obama due in large part to voters' willingness to trust the Illinois Senator to solve the financial problems of the country.

"So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00."

As of September 9, 2008 McCain has missed 408 out of Senate 639 votes cast in the current 110th Congress, or 63.8%; the worst Senate attendance record of the current 110th Congress.
The second-worst Senate attendance record is held by Tim Johnson (D-SD), who suffered a brain hemorrhage on Dec. 13, 2006 and spent several months recovering. Johnson has missed 311 votes, or 48.7%.

Obama comes in third, with 291 votes missed, or 45.5%.

What a load of crap. McCain uses this crisis to Grandstand for his own political future. He is not needed in Washington to do anything. He has no decisions to make that he couldn't make on his plane, and he has no one to lead that he couldn't lead from his plane.

He just doesn't want to look like an ass on national TV any sooner than necessary. Not only has he been Absent John in the Senate, now he is Absent John in the campaign. If he gets elected, he will probably be Absent John in the Presidency. He looks like he could use a four year vacation.

www.mccainfactcheck.com

Damn! I had already bought Kahlua and vodka for my Black Russians and popped up bowls of popcorn getting ready for Friday night's debate.

McCain is terrified to go into a debate with Obama because Obama will clean his clock. If there was ever a time when Americans need to hear a debate by the candidates on the issues -- especially their viewpoints pertaining to the economy -- it's NOW.

I think Obama should say just what I wrote above and not gone along with McCain. The ONLY time they should have cancelled a debate is if it happened to be scheduled on the same day as a possible Senate vote on the $700 billion bailout in which case both Obama and McCain should be there to vote.

BTW -- Bush is scheduled to give a special speech tonight at 9:00 PM. to try and shove his $700 billion bailout down the throat of the American public. Bush sure is in a hurry to get his bailout bill passed fast with no reviews, no discussion or debate, no changes -- just give sleezy Bush his blank check for $700 billion.

I was silent, but Obonehead says it loud and clear! LOL....LOL. Go listen and stop the denial.

Null--

Yes--Obama called McCain first and if you say McCain raised the bet--then Obama better call it.

My bet is that McCain was thinking of this when that reporter asked him yesterday about his being the vote that mattered and what would it be.

McCain says he doesn't like the idea of giving 1 trillion dollars without oversight or accountability and the bill will not pass.

So McCain made his decision and he's postponed ads and the debate until next week.

--Just in--

Obama wants the debate to go forward.

Should be interesting how the empty suit goes forward.

Isn't this being handled at the committee level right now?

And neither Obama, nor McCain is on the Senate Finance Committee.

And if I'm not mistaken, this is in front of the House Finance Committee now.

So what the hell does McCain thinks he's going to accomplish?

LOL

Theo Nebs,

you are delusional. Mr. 894 out of 899 couldn't debate a 5yr old without a stack of talking points in front of him. He knows it and was hoping to get some ammunition (or just be able to tell the truth) before he had to go into one. Since that hasn't happened, he is postponing everything. Next thing you will see is a postponement of the Biden / Palin debate.

link! Cause I sure hope so!

That would mean McBush is toast!

BIGGEST...PUSSY....EVER

2 QUESTIONS --

Since this $700 billion bailout bill might very well still be being debated in Congress for another few weeks does that mean there will be NO debates at all since that's the excuse McCain has given for backing out -- no debate until a bailout bill deal is reached?

And what about the VP debate between Sarah! and Joe?
Is their debate scheduled for October 2 also a no go?

Aside from dictatorships no one suspends the political process even during wartime. It's called democracy. The civil war and ww2 are prime examples.

This is really a poor example of McCain's ability to lead in a complex world.

QUESTION:

If folks are sooooooo confident Mr.Obonehead will win the debate, then why did Mr.Obonehead refuse to debate in the numerous opportunities he was given when McCain asked him? Remember all those declined townall debates that never happened? All because Obamacoward declined!

Yep, I'm sure McCain is just quaking in his boots when it comes to debating that empty suit stutterer!

What? The old fucker can't multitask?

Maybe Obama can take this opportunity to debate his own running mate. LOL

McCain is looking for ANY excuse not to have to go against Obama in a debate.
It has nothing to do with making anything a "political free zone" until the $700 billion bailout bill is completed. "Country First" my ass. McCain is just a coward.

Hilarious.

Geezer, if McCain made one quarter the gaffes that Obonehead makes, you might have a case for calling him senile. But now what to do with the 25 year old bonehead who's too old to be senile? How do you justify his commanding ability to debate when he's so damn stupid?

LOL...LOL....LOL

McCain suspends campaign???
Just how does that work???
Everything he says will be followed by reporters and will effect the public's perception so obviously he will still be trying to say things that curry favor with the voters.
Once begun I don't really think a campaign can be suspended unless suspension is synonymous with ending it as per Hilary Clinton.

McCain says he doesn't like the idea of giving 1 trillion dollars without oversight or accountability and the bill will not pass.

#93 | Posted by MURPHY

...and yet he has been more than enthusiastic about borrowing and spending 1 trillion on the Iraq war. By the time we repay it, with interest, it will be one and one/half trillion.

Aside from dictatorships no one suspends the political process even during wartime.
* * * *

Psst. Retard. Last I checked, passing necessary legislation is the "political process". After all, this is the kind of rich experience that Obamaniacs tell us he has so much of.

But you're right, in a way. Let Obama give his speeches to adoring crowds at the Podunk County Fair, while McCain returns to deal with more urgent business.

45 year old bonehead...LOL

PW Songbird was already lowering expectations for the debates because he knew Obama was going to embarrass him. This stunt just puts off the inevitable.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain began playing down expectations for Friday night's first general election debate, saying Democratic rival Barack Obama is "very, very good."

As he met with voters and campaign volunteers at Baldwin Wallace College, McCain played up the importance of Ohio and noted Obama's "eloquence."

"All of you know the history lesson that the last person who succeeded in becoming president of the United States without winning the state of Ohio was Jack Kennedy,'' McCain said. "And that's been a long time."

He said the debate would be a major event in the campaign.

"Look, have no doubt about it, the capabilities of Senator Obama to a debate -- I mean, he's very, very good," McCain said. "He was able to beat Sen. Hillary Clinton who, as we all know, is very accomplished, very accomplished."

McCain said that Obama "was able to, I think, with his eloquence inspire a great number of Americans. So, these are going to be tough debates."

TENDFAN...

Oh TENDFAN????

Where'd ya go buddy?

The silence is deafening!

LOL...LOL...LOL

McCain's last Senate vote was in March of this year. Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor, had surgery, radiation, chemo, and has voted on the floor of the Senate, all since then.

I understand that McCain might be a little behind on his Senate duties. Tell you what. We'll cut you some slack. Let your trusted presidential surrogate fill in for you. Obama v Palin. Foreign policy. This Friday.

45 year old bonehead...LOL

Theo,

The DR is no place for ISO personals!

THEONEBS- what truly makes me sad is that, despite your apparent lack of critical thinking skills or cognitive abilities, you're going to continue to post your ignorant crap here.

Since you posted said crap without any reference, I did some digging to see what Obama gaffe you were writing about. www.youtube.com

Just for the record, an "inhilator" is an actual device. It's not used for asthma (that's an inhaler), but it is something that smokers use to quit.
He still used the wrong word, no doubt, but he's not "making up medical devices" as you implied.

You partisan dick.

"Uh huh. He stood up to years at the Academy and flight school, and for years of torture at the hands of the NVA. "

RisR

Let's see...McCain graduated at the bottom of both his graduating class at the Academy and in flight school. He was not a fighter pilot but a bomber. He crashed a few planes in the process. And he didn't have much choice in the matter of being a POW except he was such a bad pilot he got shot down.

What are his achievements again?

Maybe Obama can take this opportunity to debate his own running mate. LOL

They want the bill done by Monday and McCain can get the Republican support if there are conditions.

Obama wants to debate himself or youtube--debating Biden is a thought...

Hey, go ahead and list the Keating Five and the outcome of the investigations.

John McCain was criticized for having exercised "poor judgment".

Just what we need in a President.

"Hmmmmm

Down by 9 pts.
Palin bounce done
Press pissed
Economy in the can
Can't keep on point
About to get my ass handed to me in a debate

Let's take a break"

Maybe 'Let's take a nap'

didnt hercule perot from Tx take a time out from his campaign back in 96?

YEAH!

Back in the Day when someone failed to meet you at the agreed time on the Quad after school, it meant they were a Pussy!

But hey, that's when "Conservative" actual meant something real, too!

Uh huh. [McCain] stood up to years at the Academy and flight school, ...

Bullpoop. McCain graduated 5th from the BOTTOM of his class at the Naval Academny. If McCain were not the son and grandson of Navy Admirals he would never have gotten into the Naval Academy in the first place. Nor without his connections would McCain have been allowed to get into a second cockpit after he crashed his first jet -- let alone have been given a chance to crash four more.

You asked for it TENDFAN, and I provided it. Now you back pedal!

I guess "critical thinking" for you is the inability to admit you were wrong, and then accuse me of an inabilitity to think critically.

LOL...what a marooon!

Name the other four Zap and the outcome of the investigation of them. LOL.

Does this mean that the fundamentals of our economy aren't so strong after all????

Aside from dictatorships no one suspends the political process even during wartime. It's called democracy. The civil war and ww2 are prime examples.

This is really a poor example of McCain's ability to lead in a complex world.

Exactly, there is "no-time" out in REAL LIFE.

"Psst. Retard. Last I checked, passing necessary legislation is the "political process". After all, this is the kind of rich experience that Obamaniacs tell us he has so much of."

Hey fucktard you can do both it's called overtime. Haven't seen much of that lately from Gramps McCain have we?

"I know how to fix social security" ...let people invest their own money on wall street themselves

"I know how to fix health care"...we need to privatize it more

And this "BLOWHARD" is going to solve the current economic situation single handedly by proposing more government when this asshole was always the supporter of LESS government.

You must be thinking of McCain as the Peter Principle. The only way he could have gotten ito the Naval Academy is by having a father and a grandfather as Navy Admirals. (elite) Tho only way he could have graduated from the Naval Academy, 894 out of 899, is by having a father and grandfather as Navy admirals (very elite) The only reason he was taken a prisoner was because he crashed his jet, even after having crashed FOUR others, he was allowed to keep flying because his father and grandfather were Navy admirals. (disgustingly elite).

"...and when Redneckville was their to meet someone it's because he was their p...., (oh never mind)."

Hey Ride_on, why don't you actually try to take a class of or two in college to find out what Redneckville is referring to?

They have nothing to vote on!

It's still at the committee level, and the committee may make Paulson come up with something else.

This is not on the floor of the Senate.

McCain is ducking the debate.

He'll gain more experience over time. America just needs to be patient with him.

That Bleeding Lib George Will agrees whole heartily.

"McCain is ducking the debate."

It does appear so.

The political cable channels are now ripping McCain up one side and down the other for bailing out on the debates. Cafferty is hot under the collar.

Bad move on McCain's part.
Waiting until the bailout bill is passed is just a cheap and cowardly excuse that makes him appear terrified to be in any debate with Obama.

Other than a declaration of war, there's no reason McCain needs to cancel the debate. We only have another 5-6 weeks before the election and it's going to take about that long a time to get the $700 billion bailout bill cobbled together.

McCain is simply saying he doesn't want any debate at all.

Hey Geezer, how successful was Obama with his military service. Oh wait!

Ok, then how successful was Obama as a community organizer. How did the housing projects he was involved with hold up over time? LOL

Hey Ride_on, why don't you actually try to take a class of or two in college to find out what Redneckville is referring to?

furryhole thinks cocosamville was talking about college. What a dumb shit.

Did you see a lot of kids meeting up to fight "after school" in college fruitcake?

McCain doesn't want the mainstream press around him, it's invitation only to his Town Hall meetings and now he wants out of Friday's debate. It smells more and more like Bush by the second.

Sons of Admirals do live a somewhat elite lifestyle. I grew up on military bases and remember their housing compared to ours and my dad was a Commander but still we lived in a little duplex while they lived in a mansion.

Folks forget how McCain did at the Faith Forum.

Folks forget that Obama ducked 10 townhall meetings with McCain this summer.

Folks forget that the topic is foreign policy--McCain's strong suit.

Does this have politics all over it--yes--that could be argued.

Both from McCain and Obama in his retort.

Obama could vote Present--FF for Wis

"Hey Geezer, how successful was Obama with his military service. Oh wait!"

Well, how successful was John McCain and John McCain's Dad....seem to remember we lost that war.

Hey Geezer, how successful was Obama with his military service

He didn't BBQ 140 American sailors so I guess that puts him ahead of McBucketlist.

Summarizing Nico Pitney's McCain Wants A Time Out -- But Why? (www.huffingtonpost.com):

1. What's changed in the past 24 hours are the pubic polling results - with McCain down and entering freefall.

2. The idea of trying to find a bipartisan solution to the current mess certainly wasn't McCain's. An Obama spokesman clarified via e-mail:

"At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama's call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details."

3. Having missed more votes in the Senate this session than any senator other than Tim Johnson (who had brain surgery), McCain suddenly wants to put the debates on hold and shut down his candidacy so he can go back to D.C. and cast a vote?

4. As of yesterday, McCain admitted he hadn't even read the Bush Administration's 3-page proposal. (Remember, economics just isn't his thing.)

"
Folks forget that the topic is foreign policy--McCain's strong suit."

Yeah...bomb, bomb, bomb, let's bomb Iran.

Yeah...we are all Georgians.

McCAin uses foreign policy for grandstanding comments which would actually be dangerous if he were the American president.

"Did you see a lot of kids meeting up to fight "after school" in college fruitcake?"

101, you obviously haven't been to college either or you would know about the frat fights.

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

yeah I was wondering if anyone would check the math on that...it sounded too good. On the daily show they calculated it at 2,000 apple pies each.

And even at 700 billion that is only $3500.00.

And if we only use "working Americans" as an example (at 140 million employed) we still only get about $5,000.00.

Obama says the debate is still on.
blogs.abcnews.com

If McCain wants to cancel his campaign apearances, that's fine. But canceling the debate? No. Even if it is the foreign policy debate, there's a huge amount of financials in there, from trade tarrifs to how much money we're pissing away on the war.

Or change the debate to economics. Let's have Obama and McCain debate how they would fix the economy, let's hear it. If they go to Washington and debate behind closed doors, we learn nothing.

The debates are the only real oportunities left to see them go head to head. Debate the bailout.

The press is pissed -- to put it mildly!

I'm not going to bother arguing this point any further because, frankly, I'm being nitpicky about ONE section in one of your seemingly endless series of posts where you say anything more than some Republican talking points, followed by a hackneyed and irritating "LOL." I'm sure you'll claim victory and follow THAT up with several more "LOL"s, and that's fine. Whatever makes you sleep better at night.

I couldn't agree more.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes down.

Fact is, these guys are both currently senators. They have a responsibility to uphold in their current capacity.

We have an economic melt-down that is largely the creation of shitty government policy. These clowns have an obligation to right the ship and then get the government the hell out of the way.

If we ever wanted a test of leadership between these 2, this is it. The spotlight is on and this type of action can't be easily faked.

Where is the link for that CC?

"And if we only use "working Americans" as an example (at 140 million employed) we still only get about $5,000.00."

So, if every working American had his pay increased by $5,000 don't you think it would help the economy more than giving it to the 30,000 richest families of America???
This bailout is strictly "supply side". We give them 700 Billion and hope it will "trickle down" in the form of loans on which they will charge us exorbidant interest.

"But canceling the debate? "

Simple. Change the debate topic to domestic issues. Obama should propose that, and challenge McCain to show up.

Exactly why McCain wants the debates cancelled.

He is terrified of going up against Obama in a debate.

Have you ever watched McCain give a speech? He continually looks at the floor to read off a teleprompter. On the Senate floor, all the Senators have a podium where they can keep their notes and papers handy while giving their speeches. But in a debate, McCain would have nothing but his own brain to work with. Hmmmm.

"How do you think the life would be to move around so much that the longest time was a year."

We moved every two years. Most Navy families did in those days. I wasn't commenting on his time in a prison cell, just his youth, which from my experience was sort of elite. Getting into Annapolis was very hard to do, especially considering John McCain did not have great grades in High School.

McCain is getting beat up so much the past week for being out of touch, ignorant about the economy, having created this mess it is no surprise that he would go into hiding now.
Yeah, he should have introduced legislation several years ago to put Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac under stricter supervision. Like this.

From the congressional record:

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

This bill was shot down by the Democrats in Congress

What legislation did Obama introduce?

Have you seen the garbage that is on the ballot here in CA?

Mark Twain; Tom Sawyer: "Every eye fixed itself upon him; with parted lips and bated breath the audience hung upon his words, taking no note of time, rapt in the ghastly fascinations of the tale".

Getting into Annapolis was very hard to do, especially considering John McCain did not have great grades in High School.
No one "applies and gets in". Only those who are appointed attend.

Folks forget that the topic is foreign policy--McCain's strong suit.

#154 | Posted by MURPHY at 2008-09-24 04:21 PM | Reply

How can you see this as McCains strong suit? He proposes the same road as Bush has gone down the last 7 years. He has been mistaken on every issue. To think McCains foreign policy is his strong suit after saying Iraq would be easy and the goals accomplished quickly is poor judgement on his part and yours.

McCain: Iraq Easy Victory

I especially liked the part where McCain says the American people were misled into thinking Iraq would be a day at the beach, when he was part of the crowd doing the misleading.

From a "McCain is being paid to be a senator" standpoint, I think this is a good idea - he should be doing his job. From a "Presidential campaign" standpoint, I think it is a terrible idea. It opens him up to all sorts of criticism from the left and the media.

In the meantime, nobody seems to care about $700,000,000,000 in corporate welfare. "Conservatives" and anti-corporate lefties included.

That would be bad strategy IMO.

Fair or not, McCain forced Obama's hand. Obama can't counter, or he'll look trite and stupid.

If Obama had given this same excuse to cancel the Presidential debates I would be calling him a coward too. Face it -- McCain has just dug a hole for himself because now the press is furious and most Americans were looking forward to watching the Presidential debates.

There is only one party that is strong enough to regain the White House from the current Radical Regime that has seized our government... and that unfortunately is the Democrats.

Welcome to American Politics Nether...been here long?

It is even worse when you are such a fuck-up that you normally would have gotten your ass kicked out of that military school except for the fact that you had family connection and it is criminal that you get to crash five jets without repercussions, again, because you have family connections.

101

Geezer may be a tired old fart, don't really know.

But the above is not inaccurate, is it?

68% think this is a political stunt.

27% regular Kool Aid drinkers think it is for the economy.

5% think it is something else.

5% just don't think at all. Period.

"Looks like John wants to get down to the job of running the country, and the Obama wants to get down to the job of running his mouth.

Actually, it looks like Big Bad John's cojones got lost in one of those plane crashes.

"obviously something an uneduacted asshole like you cannot surmise or understand"

You poor tired old fart, you may want to re-read your post. You called their rank elite, on several occasions...

Senility is probably the reason, but being stupid probably doesn't help your case gramps.

#209 | Posted by 101Chairborne

How did I call their rank elite? I called him elite for being able to do what no one other cadet could have done. Not only get into the NA but also graduate BECAUSE of family influence

getting into NA because of family (elite)
graduating even though he was a fuck up (very elite)
crashing four jests and still flying because of family connections (disgustingly elite)

You are a retarded moron!

LOL Obama is going to debate himself!

Feel for you, Donner. Happened to me here a couple years ago.

Oh well, you just made several people feel good about themselves. It's the only opportunity many of them have.

#212 | Posted by TedBaxter at 2008-09-24 04:44 PM

thanks! I know better... I was in a hurry... yeah, ya gotta throw some "read meat" out there every now and then I guess or they will starve! You know it is going to be a long 8 years for most of them (and yes, I do think Obama will be President for 8 years!).

Rush Limbaugh on the other hand is probably going to do VERY well.

But, then again HE is a "professional" asshole.

Breaking news -- Obama is now on all the cable channels.
From the little I caught of his speech it sounds like he does not want to cancel the debates.

THIS IS NOT MY IDEA BUT I REALLY LIKE IT!

You tired old sack of bones, here is the post. Have your nurse read it to you...

Will Obama have his teleprompter on during his upcoming response to McCain?? Enquiring minds want to know.

Will McCain have the notes that reads from during every speech? The old man can't even maintain eye contact with the crowd without looking down at them!

Obama assumed....do we need a president who assumes?

Forgive me if the "vote for the lessor of two evils" mentality doesn't move me to tears of a proud patriotic nature. If this is what I can look forward to for the rest of my voting life, I won't be voting much.

Couple of observations here.

A good barometer for nervousness about McCain's good decisions and their political repercussions is the crescendo of twittering and noise that tends to come from left-wing shit inhabiting blogs such as this. You saw it with Sarah as a pick ("terrible idea"), and you're seeing it now (he looks ridiculous").

I'm also amused at this notion of McCain somehow "fearing" a debate. Anybody whose head isn't firmly implanted in their ass knows that one candidate is qualified and presidential, and the other isn't. Even the Obama camp is aware of that perception. Make no mistake, Senator McCain is going to wipe his ass with the neophyte Man-Child.

I'm looking forward to the juxtapositioning on national teevision.

Come on 101 (lay off Geezer)....Geezer followed a post of his with a question he had about himself (so every once in awhile he must be cognizant that something has gone awry with him). Here it is, (along with an accurate answer to his question):

And I have dementia?

and I made a "correction" and admitted I was hasty and that RiR was right...

Hmmm I guess that is a bit different from how a Rethug like yourself would handle it? Or could it be that Vern tried to defend his poor math skills to the point that he made an ass of hisself?

Oh well, enjoy your "moment".

At least now I can say that I made a mistake...

once...

If he proceeds carefully, he demonstrates leadership and an ability to prioritize.

That's the thing though. We have an election in 5 weeks and the debates ARE a huge priority. The American people need to see them debate the issues.

I want a debate on this POS bailout BEFORE they vote on it. How does this favor democracy? McCain wants to cancel the debate, go to Washington and "Get it done".

Well I'm not sure yet I want it done. I'm not convinced it's not a scam. So let's have a debate first. Let's have McCain make his case for his version of the bailout. If he's correct he'll win the debate.

Canceling a Presidential debate to go behind closed doors isn't putting country first, it's hiding from the people who deserve to hear their plans on how to fix this crisis.

Rush Limbaugh on the other hand is probably going to do VERY well.

But, then again HE is a "professional" asshole.

See, it will be okay. You will all still have something to piss your pants about, hold your breath, stomp up and down like a 3 year olds.

Liberals never change no matter what climate we are in.

BREAKING NEWS

direct quote from CNN --

Obama: "I believe we should continue the debate."

How frigging thick is your skull old man?

#226 | Posted by 101Chairborne

Are you just pretending to be this much of an ididot or are you playing a game. I even explained it three times. Do you really think that elite, very elite and disgustinly elite describes "Navy admirals" and not the circumstance by which McCrash had a naval career? You need to go back and take that 6th grade reading comprehension class.

Well I've just heard an interesting (albeit ludicrously far fetched)rumor...had anyone else heard any anything about Obama possibly dropping out of the race for Hillary in the next week for health/sickness reasons? No link....rumor I've heard at work from several coworkers...curious to see if anyone else had been hearing this or if its just crazy jabbering?

Bush ran away during 9/11. McCain is running away from a debate. Palin wont talk to reporters. All the neocons dodged the draft.

Why do you rethugs insist your leedurs are so strong despite being constantly presented with evidence of what pussies they are.

"How frigging thick is your skull old man?"

Chairbitch,

How thick is yours? We've been over this so many times that McCain had a privledged and connected upbringing. Who the fuck do you think four star admirals hang out with longshoremen? No senator, congressmen, CEOs, etc. McCain was given a pass most of his life until he finally did a fuckup daddy couldn't get him out of, Hanoi Hilton.

I'm also amused at this notion of McCain somehow "fearing" a debate.

Well, McCain did challenge Obama to 10 town-hall debates. Obama of course refused, so naturally it is McCain who is afraid to debate.

even after having crashed FOUR others

Why do people insist on perpetuating this lie when it has been proven to be wrong?

McCain did lose two Navy aircraft while piloting them, both due to engine failure. A third was destroyed on the deck of the carrier USS Forrestal when a missile fired accidentally from another plane hit either the plane next to McCain's or, less likely, his own aircraft, triggering a disastrous fire that killed 134 sailors and nearly killed McCain. A fourth plane was lost when he was shot down over North Vietnam on a bombing mission over Hanoi. There's no evidence that any of the four destroyed planes were lost to pilot error.

Help Me to understand something. I was under the impression the HOUSE controlled the purse strings. If this is so isn't it a bit foolish to declare that the Senate needs to debate ANYTHING until the HOUSE irons out what they are willing to do and not do and THEN debate it in the Senate?? Seems old John McCain is pussying His way out of Fridays debate and using this as an excuse. Am I wrong on this??

The Great NULLandVOID (aka Billy'O'Crap'O')

So Obama is saying "call me if you need me". Is that how he would run his staff at the White House if elected?

He earned it a$$hole.

Also, no one graduates from Harvard law nor becomes the head of the Harvard Law Review based upon affirmative action.

Graduating isn't the hard part. Getting accepted is the issue. And many are accepted on affirmative action and legacy.

geezer--you need your meds or something? what the heck are you talking about?

Question for McCain bashers: when Obama relents and suspends his campaign - what will your reaction be?

Rove made him do it.

"You're just pissed off and bitter that you want to characterize this move by McCain as an act of cowardice (he's afraid to debate Obama) when the sad reality is that it's your beloved candidate who is chickenshit. "

It's a stunt that anyone who isn't a partisan hack would recognize.

BTW, "Jeffe" a month ago--26 days ago--you were "expecting" Palin not to hide from the press and would be "angry" if she did. Are you upset yet?

Obama wants to stay on the campaign trail....guess we know where his priorities lie.

This is Geezer's real problem Murphy....he even asks it himself.

And I have dementia?

#200 | Posted by geezer1 at 2008-09-24 04:37 PM | Reply | Flag:

Obama is a piece of crap that is only concerned about Obama. And yes, it was Obama that pussied out when McCain called him out on the town halls. PUSSIED OUT. Now, when the country is facing a crisis, and needs leadership, he wants to debate because he just spent the last two days training for this. Tough shit. For once, let's see Obama perform his Senatorial duties, and do something for the country - and not vote "present", either. We've already heard his speeches and talking points during his desperate quest for president. The debate can wait a few days. Country first.

Oohrah,

Obama will pretty much have to relent on this one.

Taking the cynical assumption that this is a stunt on McCain's part - it was beautifully delivered. Now, he just has to see it through.

I think Nullifidian just urinated into his shorts.

Sarah is talking with Katie Couric this week.

She'll do more.

Biden hasn't done a press conference either--

I think Nullifidian just urinated into his shorts.

I think Nullifidian just urinated into his shorts.

He did that 20 minutes ago, too.

And about 15 minutes before that.

And once after breakfast.

And ......

"Sarah is talking with Katie Couric this week."

Sarah who?

It's a stunt that anyone who isn't a partisan hack would recognize.

It probably is a stunt. However, it's a well-executed stunt, so far.

BTW, "Jeffe" a month ago--26 days ago--you were "expecting" Palin not to hide from the press and would be "angry" if she did. Are you upset yet?

I'd like to see her more visible to the press. Yes, I am irritated.

Now, it's your turn. Does it piss you off that she's had her bung-hole sniffed more intensely over 3 weeks than Obama has over the last 20 months? I mean, you really DO want a thorough vetting of BOTH candidates - don't you?

Sarah who?

Depends.

Biden hasn't done a press conference either--

#277 | Posted by MURPHY

That's irrelevant.

Sincerely,

Nullifidian

"Biden hasn't done a press conference either--"

Bide gave more interviews in the week after he was selected than the Caribou Chickenshit has given in 4 weeks. Not that he needed to do that, having participated in over a dozen debates this year alone.

Why don't you explain why someone would pay $10 to f&ck your mother's crusty a$$hole and then have to take an AIDS cocktail for the rest of their life when they could just get a simple blow for $5?

Furio, you should be of proud of your support for Obama. Your understanding of the issues is obvious. What else is obvious is that you are in the 80% who support him because of the pigmentation of his skin.

Obama ignores the issue and keeps on going.

McCain returns to his Job--like Obama should and reach across the aisle and bend some arms to get this disaster fixed.

They can re-schedule the debate.

Republicans are terrfied of intelligence. Bush and McCain only got into school under the Grandfather Clause. Bush couldn't even make it into the University of Texas.

"I mean, you really DO want a thorough vetting of BOTH candidates - don't you?"

Obama has given hundreds of interviews and participated in 22 debates, unlike your cowardly Mooseturd Messiah.

Now, it's your turn. Does it piss you off that she's had her bung-hole sniffed more intensely over 3 weeks than Obama has over the last 20 months? I mean, you really DO want a thorough vetting of BOTH candidates - don't you?

Are you naive enough to think republicans haven't gone over his life time and time again? Maybe he's just an honest man with nothing to hide. Palin on the other hand....Troopergate--Abortion Kits--Extramarital Affair--Abstinance only teaching and her failure as a parent--seeing Russia for foreign policy.

And AIDS baby you haven't explained how you KNOW that Obama didn't earn his Harvard credentials.

Face it.

The Friday debate would have been the most important and educational debate any of us will see in our lives (except maybe Kennedy/Nixon) because of the timing.

McCain doesn't want to do it because he's not prepared. Thanks for nothing, John.

You're just pissed off and bitter that you want to characterize this move by McCain as an act of cowardice (he's afraid to debate Obama) when the sad reality is that it's your beloved candidate who is chickenshit.

Actually, it is more a stupidity move by McCain than anything. There is no such thing as a "time out" in real life.

McCain gets no "breather".

And I don't think Obama has any intention of "relenting"

"In my mind, it's more important than ever that we present ourselves to the American people and describe where we want to take the country and where we want to take the economy,"

-Obama

Bill Sammon.....

(Bill Sammon is "Fox News Washington Deputy Managing Editor" and the author of four New York Times bestsellers: At Any Cost: How Al Gore Tried to Steal the Election; Fighting Back: The War on Terrorism from Inside the White House; Misunderestimated: The President Battles Terrorism, Media Bias and the Bush Haters; and Strategery: How George W. ..... just said on Fox News that, "you have to score this one for Obama."

McCain, he said, "threw another Hail Mary like with Palin". (no Pres since 1948 has been elected when their opponent had a 90 percent + approval rating in September. like Obama has now)

But this time Obama took the high ground saying that a Pres has to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time, and that America WANTS to see these two men Fri Nite to see where they stand.

Sammon says Obama's decision to go ahead to the debate and hold a town meeting if McCain doesn't show ( Which Lindsey Graham says he won't) is brilliant.

Hey moron, do you understand the difference between abusing another Drudge poster and a political figure? Get back in the corner and put that dunce cap back on.

p.s. Flag it.

Maybe you righties can get Mitt to "unsuspend' his campaign since McCain's has self-destructed.

50 percent lofl, not 90

Bok!!

McCain has asked him to come to Washington, the economy is in flames, and the Senator from Illinois thinks he has to be "called" and specially invited to do his frigging job! This kind of arrogance gets my blood boiling. "Call me"? Are you shitting us, Obama?

DO YOUR JOB! If you have to be asked just to be a legislator, what kind of leader do you plan to be?

And I will LOL when someone asks Obama what the phuck he is doing here in MS when his life savings and 401k is going up in smoke and he not there doing his job to fix the problem and get a solution.

We have 40 days to do debates. Never mind that Obama chickened out all summer.

"Sammon says Obama's decision to go ahead to the debate and hold a town meeting if McCain doesn't show ( Which Lindsey Graham says he won't) is brilliant."

Sounds like a good idea. The cable networks would cover it for sure.

Obama said in his press conference "We really need the American people to HEAR our solutions to these problems". Here's an original Idea community organizer, why don't you turn off your teleprompter, go to Washington, where you're supposed to work ..AND SHOW US what you would do..you worthless overeducated oxygen theif

Injecting the campaign into these negotiations is nuts.

McCain is looking to be a hero yet again. He may become a POW again instead, held hostage by his own arrogance.

It probably is a stunt. However, it's a well-executed stunt, so far.

There's no middle ground for McCain on this one, it's either genius or insanity. We shall see.
This is the guy who picked Palin though, so I'm going to go with short term gain, long term loss. Just like the bailout plan.

ACTION:

"I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me," McCain said in New York City Wednesday. "I am calling on the president to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem."

--John McCain

TALK:

"I think it's very important that the American people see the people who potentially could be in charge of this problem within the next couple of months and so my attitude is that we need to be focused on solving the problems, as I have been," Obama said. "It's also important that we communicate where we need to go in getting us out of the situation."

--Barack H.

"McCain has asked him to come to Washington, the economy is in flames, and the Senator from Illinois thinks he has to be "called" and specially invited to do his frigging job! This kind of arrogance gets my blood boiling. "Call me"? Are you shitting us, Obama?

DO YOUR JOB! If you have to be asked just to be a legislator, what kind of leader do you plan to be?"

Stop yelling like a shrill old maid. There are a 100 senators. McCain is one of the least qualified to discuss economics. He is more needed in a debate to give the american voters the necessary information to determine who to vote in as the next president. Actually as a senator and a presidential nominee he is obliged to perform both obligations. If he is to tired he should back out of the race. Regardless of the economy there will be an election in five weeks.

You obviously are a McCain supporter. Stop acting so fucking sanctimonious..

More breaking news --

NBC has just announced they intend to proceed with their plans for the debate
scheduled for this Friday.

Say, how can that be when there would only be one person (Obama) who plans on showing up? What's he suppose to do -- debate himself?

Maybe NBC can get someone from SNL to play the part of McCain.

you KNOW that Obama didn't earn his Harvard credentials.

www.msnbc.msn.com

He wrote in his book that he ... and let his grades slip in his final years of high school.

Teachers and fellow students at Punahou said even though Obama wasn't a straight-A student...

So its off to Columbia.... You just don't walk into Ivy league schools. Oh well, some do.

Maybe Obama and his wife will release their SAT scores then the truth will be known. Why won't they release their scores or their grades? Tokenizers.

McCain is going to busy at 9 pm friday? It's geezer's bedtime anyway!

At the one man debate--it will be enlightening---

When someone stands and asks Obama what the phuck he is doing here in MS when his life savings and 401k is going up in smoke and he not there in DC doing his job to fix the problem and get a solution.

That would be the best question of the night.

Obama is screwing this up.

Well--it's to be expected since he doesn't care--

Why did obama vote against McCains bill in 2005 that would have regulated Freddie mac and Fannie Mae?

"Say, how can that be when there would only be one person (Obama) who plans on showing up? What's he suppose to do -- debate himself?"

Obama should invite a McCain surrogate to show up. Maybe Carly Fiorina or Rick Davis.

Mid--I know I know!!

Because Obama has his hand in Fannie's dress to the amount of 111,000 plus!

"He wrote in his book that he ... and let his grades slip in his final years of high school.

Teachers and fellow students at Punahou said even though Obama wasn't a straight-A student..."

Big deal he went to a local college and then transferred. I know a lot of people who proved themselves at a lower rank college and then transferred in. They get in to replace affirmative action flunk outs. What you are too ignorant to mention is that he most likely got in because his father was a Harvard alum.

You are obviously too fucking ignorant to understand that no one gets a free pass to harvard law.

Racist fuck.

What's really going on here, I think, is that McCain also is afraid that with this crisis going on, he will not be able to take cheap shots at Obama, something he definitely will have to do to cut into that 50+ percent approval, during a debate until the crisis is settled.

Obama has given hundreds of interviews and participated in 22 debates, unlike your cowardly Mooseturd Messiah.

Uh huh.

We've heard all about how the Obama's are shitty parents for both working full time while trying to raise children.

We've seen extensive reporting on Obama's per diem expenses.

We've seen nothing but negativity from the press regarding Obama.

We've learned all about Obama's incestuous relationships.

We've read Obama's hacked, private emails.

In Obama's world, a relationship with an unrepentant Marxist terrorist is ho-hum, but Palin's personal purchase of a used $1200 tanning bed is a big scandal.

When did you become so ridiculously partisan? With the exception of a couple of questions regarding Wright, Obama's interviews with the press have been more fake than Palin's interview with Hannity.

You've quickly become one of the biggest hacks on this site, and it's a sad thing to witness.

Let's talk about McCain's actions.

Like making phil gramm his financial guru. The same phil gramm that is largely responsible for the wall street mess we have right now.

This is a stunt. Now let's see what comes of it.

Norm,

You could very well prove to be correct.

Time will tell.

Jeff- What the stories about obama being a secret muslim a gay man on drugs, wright, ayers, ect ect...

Those don't count?

Obama never locked out foxnews for reporting this garbage. He went on Bill oreilly. Your comparison sucks.

You are obviously too fucking ignorant to understand that no one gets a free pass to harvard law.

Just as no one is given a free pass to the Naval Academy.

Ripping on Obama's scholarly achievements is even more stupid than ripping on McCain's.

Jeff--

You forgot she took off the pillow and sofa tags of her funiture.

In response to the wright controversy, Obama gave a speech specifically about race.

Palin went with hannity and gibson.

fail.

OBAMA SAYS,

TOUGH SHIT, NO DEAL

AS PRESIDENT, YOU HAVE TO BE CAPABLE OF DEALING WITH MORE THAN ONE ISSUE AT A TIME.

Corky-

Both candidates are about even on the approval rating question.

"I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

This bill was shot down by the Democrats in Congress"

Empty talking point when you consider Republicans held the majority in both houses of Congress.
That little detail seems to elude so many Republican apologists.

"your an idiot"

Ah yes.
The old self-retorting retort.

"Just as no one is given a free pass to the Naval Academy."

But the son and grandson of Admirals gets nearly a free pass which would not be granted to most other Americans.

"In Obama's world, a relationship with an unrepentant Marxist terrorist"

Is this some kind of talking point being distributed? It's always "unrepentant Marxist terrorist". Must have heard it a hundred times here. Or maybe it's just JeffJ channeling his hero Pinochet Mao.

Isn't life interesting? Win Ms Congeniality. Become mayor. Become Governor. Become VP candidate. Have your personal life splattered across the globe.

Imagine if it were your life..... what would people see?

But the son and grandson of Admirals gets nearly a free pass which would not be granted to most other Americans.

And you know this...how?

POTUS should prioritize too.

There is more shit on this site about Bush sitting in that classroom when the WTC was hit.

Well ??--well!!

We have the economy going into depression on Monday--per the Bernanke and Paulson and some on the Hill.

To think that the candidates would sit around while the building is burning rather than go resolve it--before Monday is very telling.

They can re-schedule--and they will.

Debates are negotiated--good grief--go put out the friggin fire!

Big deal he went to a local college and then transferred. I know a lot of people who proved themselves at a lower rank college and then transferred in.
Not into Ivy League. Columbia is not a state school. He worked the system. Just like McCain.

Murphy

In most cases, Obama is over 50, and Mc is under. But you are right, it is close. Closer than all these lousy Obamites promised me it would be, lmfao!!

"Just as no one is given a free pass to the Naval Academy."
No. Its called a congressional appointment.

Null--

Ayres says he did not do enough bombings and should have done more.

That makes him unrepentant.

"Not into Ivy League. Columbia is not a state school. He worked the system. Just like McCain"

Bullshit McCain was at the bottom of everything he did and had daddy save his ass repeatedly. Obama was at the top. world's of difference.

Is this some kind of talking point being distributed? It's always "unrepentant Marxist terrorist". Must have heard it a hundred times here. Or maybe it's just JeffJ channeling his hero Pinochet Mao.

#329 | Posted by nullifidian

Oh.

So, are you going to try and defend Ayers?
Again?

I seem to recall you labelling him as a prankster.

As if bombing municipal buildings is akin to pulling pranks.

You got your ass handed to you the last time you tried this tack. You want another go-around?

He's a Marxist who advocated the overthrow of our government. He set off bombs, got off on a technicality and is not only unprepentant, he claims he didn't do enough.

You don't like the fact that Mao's characterizations are apt?

Tough shit.

"Ayres says he did not do enough bombings and should have done more."

Wrong, liar. He said he didn't do enough to stop the Vietnam war, not that he didn't do enough bombings, liar.

p.s. When is McCain going to reject the support of known terrorist Oliver North, who actually caused the deaths of people?

Empty talking point when you consider Republicans held the majority in both houses of Congress.
That little detail seems to elude so many Republican apologists.

Danni look up the term admendment. Look up the term fillibuster.

And answer why did Barney Frank and other Dems block McCains attempt to regulate the GSE's? How did Obama vote?

"You got your ass handed to you the last time you tried this tack. You want another go-around?"

Nobody handed my ass to me, jackass. Certainly not a partisan hack like you.

Furio--you missed McCain's RNC speech and his own words that he didn't care back then.

Then he got to Hanoi and realized --after torture and breaking by the enemy--that his country was first and he wanted to serve his country better than himself. (?)

Anyway--this argument on education is a wash.

No one's a bigger hack than you, unless it's Murphy. It's really sad. You used to be one of the more respected conservative posters here. Now you're just a shill. Sad.

Yeah. You're right.

I haven't been at all critical of McCain, or Palin.

You will not find heaping adoration of either one of them in my post history. It just isn't there. You'll find some praise, but you'll also find criticism.

Obama was at the top.
Yes. In three years in the senate he has accumulated more contributions from the failed GSE's than anyone else.

""Just as no one is given a free pass to the Naval Academy."
No. Its called a congressional appointment."

You don't think daddy knew enough congressmen working in washington? get real. Appointments are totally at the discretion of the congressman. Afterwards they need to get accepted into the Academy which would be easy because of his family.

The legislation that caused this meltdown:

The Financial Services Modernization Bill.

Author- Phil Graham.

McCain's financial adviser-Phil Graham.

I think we might be hearing some details about this at the one man debate on Friday. And without McCain there to spin and dodge, it's gonna be good.

Anyone who disagrees with me regarding anything, ever, is a shill.

Sincerely,

Nullifidian.

"Then he got to Hanoi and realized --after torture and breaking by the enemy--that his country was first and he wanted to serve his country better than himself."

that's his political story. Next.

John McCain: Leader who answers his country's call
Barack Obama: Still sitting by the phone

I see it now--Null's hat on a platter..

He did too say those things and he was answering about the bombings of the Pentagon and capital buildings.

Get real Bill..

Bits and pieces of news --

CNN said they have more than 10,000 emails so far against the cancelling of the debate.

Most Americans want the debate to be held.

McCain is the LAST person they need back in DC to help negotiate the fine points of the $700 billion boondoggle as he has a very poor in understanding of economics -- except when it comes to swindles like the Keating 5 debacle. McCain isn't even on the Banking Committee or other committees with a big say so in this bailout bill.

BUSH TO BE ON TV TONIGHT (6:00 P.M.) TO PUSH FOR HIS SLEEZY $700 BILLION BAILOUT BILL.

Evidently Bush is having real trouble getting his $700 billion bailout thru Congress -- not because of the Democrats but because many conservative Republicans in Congress are dead set against it!

Bush has no pull or sway anymore. He's a lame duck loser with a 19% approval rating. Bush's own party members hate his guts, the Ameican people hate his guts, and if Bush thinks Americans are going to give him and his crooked corporate cronies in crime a blank check for $700 billion with no questions asked, then Bush is even dumber than we thought possible.

"To think that the candidates would sit around while the building is burning rather than go resolve it--before Monday is very telling."

McCain is a joke. They should do the debate without him- after he's been whinning about no 'town hall meetings.' Congress doesn't need either candidate showing up with a bunch of political posturing. They'll do fine - better- figuring this out without them.

Incedentally, if you havent noticed, our 'building' has been burning for several years now.

Why was nothing ever suspended/cancelled until we figured out how to end this war that has killed so many?

Nobody handed my ass to me, jackass.

You defended Ayers by calling him a harmless vandal.

I smacked that shit down.

Deal with it.

Obama will show up in congress and follow it with the debate Friday night whether McCain shows up or not. McCain has no excuse!

So, the headline should be, "McCain Bails Out of Debates!"

Johnny saw what everyone else sees as the compromise that is coming which will include the things that both Obama and McCain have called for.

Barney Frank just agreed saying, "It's just a stunt. He is trying to make himself important to something that is about to happen anyway."

Both camps are calling for the same protections, McCain being a newly reborn populist and all.

The admin has even agreed to limits on CEO compensation.

I see it now--Null's hat on a platter..

He did too say those things and he was answering about the bombings of the Pentagon and capital buildings.

That depends on what the definition of 'is' is.

Sincerely,

Nullifidian

So interesting to watch you republitards squirm over this one...twisting in the wind like rotting stalks of bleached wheat.

Hmmm....Reading your comments here, one would think it was Obama who had surrendered his campaign!!!!

"...Blacks don't care about the country, about the financial crisis, about mortagages, about AL-Qaeda..they only care about getting theirs, so stop pretending..It is true they haven't had a fair shake... Posted by HillBillyJihad
"

Is this the ME-ME-ME republican crowd barfing their own rhetoric towards a systematically discriminated group. First you want Blacks oppressed, then you say the playing field is equal and there's no institutionalized racism in America....

Then you act like thick-tongued racists from sea to shining sea and call yourselves the 'Real Americans'????

Shit...you prove their point!!!!

HillbillyJihadist, who is obviously soooo pissed his Palin/McCain ticket has finally imploded...should just go back to clinging to religion and guns?

IF SARAH PALIN were truly a viable VP candidate, she would STEP INTO the Debate for Mr. Mclame and take on Obama!

Now that would be Presidential!

When you are president of the United States you may/will be called upon top handle more then one thing at a time. If McCain cant handle a debate for a few hours on Friday night while dealing with the current economic crises how in the world can anyone feel he can handle running our county. He cant actually think that he is only going to get one problem at a time if he wins. It seems to me that he either can not handle the pressures of running the country or he thinks he will not win the debate on Friday night.

350 posts so far on this thread an it's only 3:08 p.m. here in California. Bet ya the thread breaks 1000 posts by the end of the night?

McCain isn't going to "solve" anything by avoiding the debate.. this sounds like a 3rd grader that forgot to study and wants to postpone a test.

This also proves he cant multitask.

tigerbalm was signed the bill? Who tried to change the law in 2003 and 2005 but was stonewalled by the DEMS.

You won't hear anything about this bill because the REP tried to fix it and were stonewalled.

The quotes from Frank and other DEMS will be a campaign commerical. I hope Obmama brings it up in the debate. Strange how the MSM is not mentioning McCains bill in 2005? Actually its not strange at all. Its typical of the MSM.

Any news on next weeks SNL skit?

Cork,

The only problem with the headline is that McCain challenged Obama to 10 debates and Obama blew him off.

Having said that, I agree that this is likely a stunt - a stunt that could very well backfire, if not handled properly.

But as a fellow-shill, you know my commentary here is bullshit.

Just heard the debate is going forward with or without McCain.

Why is it the dems nominate guys who generate such hate?

Why is it the reps nominate guys who generate such pity?

Or maybe reps are just natural haters.

And dems are just naturally more caring and feeling.

It seems to me that he either can not handle the pressures of running the country or he thinks he will not win the debate on Friday night.
It seems to me your candidate has never introduce legislation on any thing of any significance. But yet you look to him to take action. He talks.

What is the differenced between Obama and an empty suit?

-Any news on next weeks SNL skit?

Yes, all the cast members and Tina Fey will have their characters at a WH negotiation dinner with Bush and Paulson, which turns into a 3 Stooges food fight. Stay tuned.

Deserves to be repeated.

Barney Frank just agreed saying, "It's just a stunt. He is trying to make himself important to something that is about to happen anyway."
Has anyone of the media asked Frank why he pulled a stunt that blocked a vote on two bills in 2003 and 2005 that would have prevented this mess? Didn't think so.

Funny shit

McCain is a real scumbag for trying to inject presidential politics into this issue. People could lose homes, jobs and their retirment and McCain wants to go to Washington to stall the process and make it a partisan issue? This deal is going through with or without McCain and Obama; McCain just wants to attempt to leave his mark. The problem is he knows nothing about economics, so what good will he actually serve other than delaying the process for political purposes? Talk about putting personal politics before country and its citizens.

Letterman mocks McCain

David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy.

Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"

Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."

"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?"

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

"...that would have prevented this mess..."

Ha! Dream on.

The party of responsibility, desperately trying to shirk all responsibility.

this is sad..he cant fix this and the bill wont fix this problem..

This is classic asset class deflation versus currency devaluation.

The Paulson's and other uber wealthy tools want the currency devaluation over the asset class deflation which hurts them the MOST.

If you inject 700 billion of liquidity from the taxpayer you essentially spread the debt of a few over all and essentially keep the bubble inflated.
This will cause massive inflation in the coming years which is why we saw commodity prices spike last week with anticipation of the bill passing.

If you let the whole debt bubble unwind you essentially revalue all goods and products and service at a much lower price. This is healthier and affects those that benefited MOST from the asset bubble.

I say let the whole thing unwind..propping up the debt bubble is just a giant kick the can down the road scenario. Its going to happen why not now?

Fuck wall street..you can paper your walls with the money you earned.

This is just a prelude to postponing the election.
Ask "Mayor" Giuluiani about this brilliant idea.

Hey Sarge,

which of the 57 states do you live in. I hope you didn't have insurance with the American Insurance Group that is having trouble.

You idiot.

I smell a rat!! He wants to move the debate back 1 week replacing the Vice Presidential debate with the one that was supposed to happen Friday. Could it be that they dont want Caribou Barbie to debate Biden? Or talk to the public, or reporters? And where are her tax records.

I agree, I dont believe this move is for the good of the country, McCain is not even on the comittee that is currently holding hearings. What is he going to do there?

McCain is a real scumbag for trying to inject presidential politics into this issue.
Taxman in 2005 he co-sponsered a bill to regulate the GSE's and was blocked by DEMS. This was a follow up attempt at an 2003 bill.

Now Obama claims McCain did nothing to stop this and actually encouraged it.

Sounds like Obmama is telling a lie. And knows it.

Legio

I've about come to the same conclusion today. It probably would be healthier to just let it go and start over.

I think we all know this 700,000,000,000.00 won't be the end of it.

Next month or the month after they'll be back and say they need another 900,000,000,000.00 to really, really, really fix it. "No, really. We mean it this time and will never, never, never ask again."

BREAKING NEWS...

McCain's camp is proposing the Presidential debate be rescheduled to October 2 -- the date the VP debate was to be held -- and then reschedule the VP debate to another time.

McCain said if the $700 billion bailout bill was not completed by Friday he would NOT be attending the Friday debate.

NBC said it has no plans on changing the date of Friday's debate to another date

stay tuned....

Thats probably his best shot, Ive said all along that Barack is going to make a fool out of McCain in the debates

Hey Midtown- 57 states? 57 states???

That's the best you got to counter McCain trying to bail out of the first debate?

Poor little man.

Now Mid.

Just what do you suppose AIG was insuring?

Why, it wouldn't have been covering losses in the mortgage market, would it?

McCain wants to forgo politics in this troubled time so he bails from the debate and "suspends his campaign"?

Like that's not a cheap, calculated, political move right there?

How dumb does he think most folks are?

Like Failin dumb or even Dumbya dumb?

If this is McCain trying to act like a leader then there's no need to alert the Acadamy.

Cos his acting sucks.

Be Well.

One of McCain's people was just on saying, why of course, John would be pleased to debate foreign policy with Obama on Friday, schedule permitting.

Foreign Policy?

Looks like Mrs. Pinche Mao is stalking me now. lol

That's Ms. Pinche Mao, you douche!

;-)

How dumb does he think most folks are?

Like Failin dumb or even Dumbya dumb?

For some reason, I found that to be funny.

This just tells everyone that mccain is clearly not PRESIDENTIAL material. mccain is unable to cast his vote and run a campaign.

Well, alot more by far will being going on for a president and it will have to continue, there will be no suspending to help make one decision.

MCCAIN HERE SHOWS HE IS NOT CAPABLE OF BEING PRESIDENT.

"You defended Ayers by calling him a harmless vandal.

I smacked that shit down."

You're a legend in your own mind. Oliver North actually caused hundreds of people to be killed, Mrs. Mao.

So Obama says IF they need him he'll go anywhere anytime...

IF they need him? Oh and we can call his staff??

Obama is unprepared--no one is telling this guy what to do.

He is a farce--a feckless, spineless, empty suit.

The press conference by Obama was really telling--He puts politics over the American People.

Why--because no one needs him in DC--Nancy stretch Pelosi and Harry Reid are running the show and screwing it up and he can't do anything with those folks.

BTW--Howard Dean is on the golf course--he can't be reached for comment..That comment was at the beginning of Obama's press conference.

McCain cancelled the first day of the RNC for Gustav and he suspends his campaign to get the biggest finanacial crisis resolved for the American people.

Guess that there will be a Leadership meeting with Bush and McCain and other leaders of both parties going on Friday night--during the debates.

Where will Obama be??

Talking to himself at a debate--looking like the fool that he is--

I think the democratic party needs to start showing that wealth doesn't equal morality.

This just tells everyone that mccain is clearly not PRESIDENTIAL material. mccain is unable to cast his vote and run a campaign.

That's the knock, and it may very well prevail.

McCain is trying to sell this as, as his role as senator, shut everything down and properly deal with this. Quickly.

This ploy only works if he demonstrates a serious and genuine commitment to a bi-partisan and comprehensive resolution. Anything less and this backfires.

Gotta give it up to the old crank - he's ballsy enough to take big risks which could potentially backfire - first Palin and now this.

Either that, or he's so desperate that he's willing to take big risks because the potential payoff is the only way he can win. If it backfires he loses - but he loses if he doesn't take the risk at all.

I am guessing that Spud goes with the latter, but that's just a guess on my part.

"The press conference by Obama was really telling--He puts politics over the American People."

You're as much a partisan hack as Mrs. Pinche Mao, Murphy.

You're a legend in your own mind. Oliver North actually caused hundreds of people to be killed, Mrs. Mao.

I am not defending Oliver North.

And again, it's Ms. Mao, you idiot!

Yep, McCain sure is concerned about this crisis (From Politico):

A non-emergency meeting

The McCain campaign's new urgency about the financial crisis didn't entirely clear his schedule this morning.

My colleague Amie Parnes reports that he made it to his scheduled morning meeting with Lady Lynn de Rothschild, a Clinton backer who recently came out in support of him.

All while Obama was waiting by the phone for a returned call.

Ted--the first debate is on foreign policy.

You're as much a partisan hack as Mrs. Pinche Mao, Murphy.

Call me Mrs' one more time and I deflate your Stalin blow-up doll.

lol. It's get more pathetic by the hour...

McCain Camp Wants To Postpone VP Debate

www.huffingtonpost.com

Shouldn't a president be able to walk and chew gum at the same time? It's a 90 min. debate. 90 freakin' minutes. McCain seems to have all sorts of time for other "distractions", such as meeting with the Baroness de Elitist today.

Time for action, not words.

McCain has taken the right steps.

Excuse me while I check my lipstick--

Ted--the first debate is on foreign policy.

#404 | Posted by MURPHY at 2008-09-24 07:07 PM | Reply | Flag:

That was decided before. In light of new developments, shouldn't the debate be held as planned but with at least one or ten questions relating to the current crisis? How could a moderator NOT ask?

But! McCain-who-hasn't-the-time-to- debate found time to meet with "Lady" Rothschild

"The McCain campaign's new urgency about the financial crisis didn't entirely clear his schedule this morning.

My colleague Amie Parnes reports that he made it to his scheduled morning meeting with Lady Lynn de Rothschild, a Clinton backer who recently came out in support of him.

McCain is trying to weasel Sarah out of her debate.

Time for action, not words.

LOL! Time for action and in mccains' eyes that is make everything stop so I can actually make a decision.

This is not even procrastination, his dementia is so bad that mccain can only deal with one issue and stop time for all other issues. If this were even a small business it would fail.

The plan on the table is not passing.

McCain wants a leadership meeting to include Obama and McCain and the rest of the congress leadership to get this moving forward. The plan--needs to be done now--NOW!
----------------

The phone call is such a laughable statement--"I called him firrrrrst!" He is such a baby!

And he didn't even talk with McCain--he or his staff talked with someone in McCain's staff.

Obama did not appear--even remotely appear presidential.

IF I can help--IF they need me...Oh oh--I am such a kid out of the Daley machine that if Daley doesn't tell me what to do--I don't know what to do...Can I vote Present?? I do that all the time when I don't know what to do--like right now!

And the Dems were all talking yesterday about McCain and his vote--now they are singing that they can do this--AND they haven't done anything!! lol

The reason Obama wants the foreign policy debate to go forward is because he is ill prepared for FP and it's Friday night when 3/4 of America is at a football game.

"McCain is trying to weasel Sarah out of her debate."

He would love to find an excuse to cancel the VP debate altogether.

I regret using the word "weasel" in conjunction with Sarah Palin. Conjures up odd connotations.

"Gotta give it up to the old crank - he's ballsy enough to take big risks which could potentially backfire -"

Just imagine this old crank in charge of the most powerful nation on earth.

"He would love to find an excuse to cancel the VP debate altogether...."

This is indeed how it is shaping up.

I know I shouldn't be here but I am. Oh well shit happens. I do have a question. What would You think of a prospective employee that applied for a job with another Company declaring that He could not come in to the First Job interview for that Job because of His supposed obligations to His current employer. Be honest now if I pulled that with say You. Would You not shit can My Job Application and hire the one that was willing to come in when the Employer of the potential company demanded that You be there. It seems to Me John McCain cares not for the Presidency and therefore should not be hired since He is unwilling to come in for His first Job interview/ First Debate.

Larry

And then McCain called Obama at 2:30--McCain told him the joint statement was fine and BTW I am going to DC to help resolve this crisis--We should go together. I am suspending my campaign and delay the Friday debate until this gets settled.

Hey Larry--

And if the building of the current employer was on fire--would you blame the employee if he stayed to help put out the fire??

Is it too early to consider what the McCain campaign is afraid the public will see?

There will still be 3 for the POTUS and one for the VP.

They will return to MS for that debate as well. The folks there did a lot of work time and money to put the debate together.

Sometimes we are in complete agreement.

Murphy-
The joke is that McCain didn't tell Obama that. Obama heard it on TV. The joke is also that McCain has used up his bullshit quota, and his gambit is seen as the raw political desperation that it is.

He and Palin need a few more weeks to study for the test.

90 minutes.

This is probably a deal cooked up by the White House and the McCain campaign together.

The "crisis" is being manipulated to make it look like the Republicans know what they are doing.

We pause for this "National moment" where we are "all together" to "take bi-partisan action" to "save our homes" and "save the peoples' savings" and "preserve our way of life" because "we are the greatest country on Earth" and "God Bless America"

McCain has no more to contribute to this situation than Bush has. Neither of them has a clue.

But they think that "the people" will fall for it, once again. "Trust Us"

The debate should go on, and it can be in Washington DC in the Senate if they want it.

"There will still be three for POTUS and one for VP...."

Really? I'm willing to go out on a limb and state a serious attempt will be mounted to evade Palin participating in a debate.

"There will still be 3 for the POTUS and one for the VP."

With the idea of squeezing the VP debate between the Presidential debates so there's a minimum of time the media focuses on Palin's inevitable dreadful performance.

He wants to reschedule the interview, Larry. That's fine. He won't be rejected. It's an executive position with only two candidates applying. It's not like someone is waiting behind him.

The reason Obama is against the suspension is because nobody cares about his Senate vote on the bailout... McCain's position on it is actually important... Obama doesn't want people to see how unimportant he actually is.

I Googled it Beetle.

Here's what I got.

Rob, please explain. I may not be able to respond tonight, but would like to see your rationale as it is a pretty interesting position.

Welcome to the thread, Rob.

You obviously didn't watch the video I linked.

Here, this one is better:

www.youtube.com

What a cynical stunt.

If McCain was doing this for altruistic reasons he'd have phoned Obama earlier than 6 hours later to discuss everything.

McCain saw the polls and an opportunity. He's injecting politics in what those in D.C. wish to be a non-political bill free of presidential politics.

Rob-
McCain's vote on it is important because he became a populist yesterday. R's were hoping to let the thing pass and have McCain (and as many R's as possible) vote against it so they could go into the election in opposition to both Bush and Pelosi/Reid (ie, the establishment).

Rob, please explain. I may not be able to respond tonight, but would like to see your rationale as it is a pretty interesting position.

If McCain says yes to the suspension, Repubs will go along with it. If he says no... they won't.

The Junior Senator from Illinois with 2 years experience as a senator (the other two spent telling people he should be president) has no such sway.

Yeah, Ms Murph, I understand that. But lemme think, isn't there maybe something at least as pressing going on this week?

Are you this rigid in your private life?

100% of the blame lies in Bush not meeting with Congressional leaders weeks ago when they first were aware of the problem. They had their 3 page plan already drawn up weeks ago.

Sticking a gun to Congress' head now to pass something in a week is the height of irresponsibility on the WH's part.

Rob-
re: #440

Here's a hint. It's on another thread:

Taxman:

blogs.abcnews.com

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: If Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain doesn't vote for the Bush administration's $700 billion economic bailout plan, some Republican and Democratic congressional leaders tell ABC News the plan won't pass.

In regards to this crisis... McCain matters, Obama doesn't. Obama doesn't want the people to see it that way, so he's pushing ahead with words when actions are needed.

We are seeing what the next 4 years will look like (since I think Obama will still win)... And its not a good picture....

He wants to reschedule the interview, Larry. That's fine. He won't be rejected. It's an executive position with only two candidates applying. It's not like someone is waiting behind him.

Whoops... sorry... McCain says yes to the Bailout... not the suspension, but I'm guessing you figured that out Tax...

I am an Obama supporter as you all know but damn even I was impressed by his response to this stunt by McCain, "a president is required to do more than one thing at once" (or walk and chew gum), THAT is exactly what the people need to hear, a President who can do more than one thing at a time, WIN!

"McCain has no more to contribute to this situation than Bush has. Neither of them has a clue"

Yet he and Obama---who aren't on the important committees---will both go to Washington and pretend they're "leading".

What a circus.

Yes Boyd, but that thread pertains to this thread, in that it is the reason why Obama won't allow for a delay of the campaigning and debates.

Obama cares more about advancing his career then he does America. Sorry... but that's painfully obvious... Unfortunately its probably going to be our pain over the next few years.

This is a cynical stunt on McCain's part.

It was irresponsible of the WH - who were aware of the problem and had their plan drawn up weeks ago - to not call Congressional leaders to the WH weeks ago instead of sticking a gun to Congress' head to pass something in a week.

Yet he and Obama---who aren't on the important committees---will both go to Washington and pretend they're "leading".

Which is what McCain's stunt is all about.

This is a cynical stunt on McCain's part.

Doing his job (you know they are still senators AU... no matter how many presidential seals Obama makes)? they're senators...

Maybe they should be forced to resign if they're going to run for president... I wouldn't mind that, but at the moment they don't have to... so they are senators, this is a huge issue and in McCain's case people care what he's going to do... they should be in Washington.

Which is what McCain's stunt is all about.

Yep.

The question is whether or not he can pull it off. For some reason, I suspect he'll have full party support on this.

Rob-
Read Danforth's #455 and Jeff's #458.

And then add this:

Obama called McCain PRIVATELY and asked about a joint statement. Next thing he knew, McCain was calling off the campaign, calling off the debate, and rushing to Washington!

Congressman Frank was just on Dobb's show now. According to Frank, the bill is just about ready and it now looks as though Congress will allow Bush to rush them into signing the $700 billion bailout bill.

I noticed that among the items the Dems demanded be change, the provision in Bush's bailout bill that there be "no court or judicial proceedings" allowed come out of this mess was included in the parts of the bill to be changed.

So. again, the Bush Administration and their band of crooked corporate cronies on Wall Street get away again with massive theft with no legal repercussions and no jail time.

Larry,

That is an interesting question. You are probably correct in your assertion of what might happen to the resume. However, I would absolutely not hire someone that walked off their job to look for the next one, leaving no notice and not permitting the previous employer to fill the position with someone who might do the work. Why is that better?
But then, unlike the people of Illinois, I would not have promoted an employee that was merely "present" when important decisions needed to be made, but never came up with the ability to make a decision of his own.

they should be in Washington.

They're all crooks, it seems.

What are we going to do? I don't believe for one minute they have to rush this $700 billion bailout scheme thru by this weekend or our world as we know it will collapse.

Congress should ignore Bush and take all the time they need and debate every sentence in the bill. The crook Bush demands no changes to the bill, no oversight, no amendments -- just give him and his Treasury Secretary the $700 billion with no questions asked. Yeah, right.

Apparently Bush's biggest problem is coming from the conservatives in Congress in his own party. Many Republicans in Congress find this bailout bill horrendous. So far the majority of Americans see it that way too

We are literally being robbed blind in front of our eyes and can't do anything about it. *sigh*

The joke is that McCain didn't tell Obama that. Obama heard it on TV.

That is not true Betel--Obama first answered the question that he didn't hear McCain's plan until the TV. But he flip flopped later in the same PC.

Murphy-
Obama didn't "flip" on it. He stated that in their private conversation, that topic was raised by McCain as a possibility. Then Obama saw McCain announce it unilaterally in a recorded appearance released to the press.

That's bullshit Murphy. McCain didn't tell Obama he was going to withdraw from the debates. He tried to sandbag Obama.

I think this helps him, now america won't be reminded that he is no different than Bush.

I'm betting they both show up in Congress and the debate. To do otherwise would be political suicide.

It seems to Me John McCain cares not for the Presidency and therefore should not be hired since He is unwilling to come in for His first Job interview/ First Debate

Golly. How many charges do you think were planted in WTC 7 by the Mossad with the assistance of the US gov't, Midtown? I mean, since you'll believe anything.

Betelg,

It was a bill that was introduced into committee in 2005. The Republicans were unanimously in favor of it, but the Dems were unanimously opposed and were able to kill it in committee - much akin to the 'obstructionism' that the current minority party has been able to achieve since 2006.

It was a WSJ article and it's linked in my userblog - if you'd like, I can re-provide the link.

So you do admit McCain told Obama on the phone about the debate postponement and suspend the campaign?

ABC News has learned that President Bush called Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., this evening and invited him to participate in a meeting about the Wall Street bailout bill tomorrow afternoon in Washington, DC, with other congressional leaders, including Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Obama accepted the president's invitation, a source tells ABC News.

Good for Obama--someone had to hit him upside the head--if this is true that is.

Former Fannie Mae chairman Jim Johnson was dumped from Obama's vice presidential search team, but he's still playing a behind-the-scenes role on the campaign.

Former Senator Tom Daschle, a top Obama backer, emailed a select list this afternoon that he and Johnson would be leading a briefing intended largely for Clinton's campaign brain trust next month.

"Jim Johnson and I have scheduled another informal breakfast discussion and update on the campaign early next month," he wrote to a list including Senator John Kerry, James Carville, and Richard Holbrooke, as well as Clinton's former top campaign aides, including Howard Wolfson, Geoff Garin, and Harold Ickes.

Johnson's involvement comes at a moment when political association with the failed mortgage giants is particularly toxic. He was already the subject of a McCain ad attacking Obama.

IF you only a simple majority and don't have every vote on your side, you cannot pass a bill. Not every Republican was voting in support of the bill for aforementioned reasons - lobbying and money. There has never been any time in US history that any administration was able to pass every bill no matter how much control they had. There are a lot of ways to block bills.

A Republican chaired committee, with a majority of Republicans. How exactly did the Dems kill it?

How have the current crop of Republicans been so successful at being obstructionsists given the Dem majority?

And isn't it true that McCain only signed on as a "co-sponsor" in 2006, after a critical report on Fannie and Freddie came out, but the bill was already dead?

That's possible. Actually, my understanding is that "co-sponsor" is putting it strongly. He endorsed it on the floor, but I don't believe his support went beyond that.

Good Gosh!

McCain slithers away from his hogwash campaign...and right on cue the Republican White Trash League spins it toward Obama.

How much do you want to bet that there just "won't be time" for the VP debate, and Palin can remain in hiding till the election?

Funny, that.

Bubba on campaigning for Obama in Florida, (in best Bubba voice), "They may want me to go bump up what Lawton Childes use to call, "the Cracker vote", down there in Florida."

I'll take that bet Norm--there will be a VP debate.

In fact after the Bush speech it seems (to me) that they are closer to a deal --though some --a lot-- of resistence is still there.

Now if they can get the deal done tomorrow--that is Thursday--both guys can get to MS for the debate on Friday.

What will McCain panic about next? It seems like he overreacts to something every week.

So the economy is in such crisis that our savior John McCain has to suspend his campaign, race back to DC and cancel the debate.

But he has plenty of time to sit in makeup for Katie Couric huh? And why did he go to Couric instead of DC?

COURIC: I'm just going to ask you one more time, not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his(McCain's) 26 years of pushing for more regulation?

PALIN: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.

Yep. McCain doesn't have time to debate Obama, but he has time to go do damage control for Sarah Palin.
I call bullshit.

It's all politics. McCain is full of shit. So much so that I hope he's our next president.

The fact that this race is even close means America deserves 4 years of McCain. Fuck us, we're collectively stupid.

That's right, forget McCain.

Let's vote in the man with the Muslim name who surrounds himself with racist pastors, America haters, and Marxists. That way we can deal with our unresolved guilt and self hatred!

McCain is a loose cannon and is in panic mode.

FOP?

Friends Of the President.

The reason Obama is against the suspension is because nobody cares about his Senate vote on the bailout... McCain's position on it is actually important... Obama doesn't want people to see how unimportant he actually is.

his vote doesnt mean shit either.. this bubble is going to pop.. with or without the 700 billion in fiat money.

both guys can get to MS for the debate on Friday.

And as Obama pointed out, they both have shiny planes with their names painted on them so flying to MS shouldn't be a problem.

Face it Murph, McCain tried to pull a stunt and will come out looking like a dork.

MURPHY

You know damn well this was a publicity stunt by McCain. If he was truly seeking bipartisanship, he'd have called Obama back or just taken Obama's 8:30 am call. During that call he could have suggested to Obama they both do whatever they were going to do.

Congressional leaders specifically asked Presidential politics to stay out of it.

This is nothing more than a stunt by McCain to attempt to blindside Obama. If Congressional leaders wanted them there they'd have called both of them. They have phones you know....

Nice try MURPHY

PS Remember it was McCain "Mr. Anti Regulation" who has his dirty hands all over the deregulation that resulted in this crisis in the first place and enabled Wall Street and banks to do whatever they wanted.

McCain's internal polling must be showing he's in serious trouble or he wound never pull a stunt like this. This crisis has been brewing for months and to suddenly run around like a chicken with its head chopped off is hardly presidential.

I think there are only four possibilities:

1) He's in full panic mode and willing to try anything to make it look like he's can address the economy
2) It's a desperate and convoluted attempt to get Palin out of the debate
3) He's finally cracked
4) All of the above

Anyone with any Capitol Hill experience would know that interjecting himself and the presidential campaign into this issue this late would be counter productive. Sadly, this reminds me of the last days of GHWB's campaign against Clinton. Every day brought a new theme, the best being "Clinton Gore" was the same as Congressional Gridlock. Pathetic.

From here on (post Bush speech) any further delay and any worsening of financial crisis will be blamed more on the dems and Obama. McCain has made a very clever tactical shift.

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being President? We've got a guy like that now!"

puh-fucking-lease. How anybody could watch that interview and come to your trite little conclusions is just unbelievable. Obama says straight up that he feels it's important that the American People see the two of them in acxtion, instead of them hiding out in DC.

BOB SCHIEFFER: I am told, Maggie, that the way McCain got involved in this in the first place, the Treasury Secretary was briefing Republicans in the House yesterday, the Republican conference, asked how many were ready to support the bailout plan. Only four of them held up their hands. Paulson then called, according to my sources, Senator Lindsay Graham, who is very close to John McCain, and told him: you've got to get the people in the McCain campaign, you've got to convince John McCain to give these Republicans some political cover. If you don't do that, this whole bailout plan is going to fail. So that's how, apparently, McCain became involved.

Senator Lindsay Graham, who is very close to John McCain, and told him: you've got to get the people in the McCain campaign, you've got to convince John McCain to give these Republicans some political cover.

So this bailout is nothing but politics and no one is realizing that politics means theft. Politics is ALWAYS counter productive, nothing good comes from it.

I absolutely hate the idea of a McCain presidency, but I'm forced to agree with you. The economy is faltering and dying, and what have people been more worried about? Caribou Barbie. Obama is an elitist. How many houses McCain owns. Blah blah blah blah blah. There are more important things going on, but people really don't seem to care.

First off, how incredible selfish for a 72 year old man to want to be president so bad he will do anything to be elected. He reminds me of the 50ish something people who are having babies. How selfish are they to impose their desires on a child who will likely lose their parents at a young age. They don't seem to care. McCain does not seem to care. He believes he deserves this office, but this country does not deserve him.

..................McCain is scared shitless.......

****** Uh huh. He stood up to years at the Academy and flight school, and for years of torture at the hands of the NVA. But he's going to be panicked and scared to death before an effete two-year Senator who can't function unless there's a teleprompter scrolling his speech for him.

........yup ......sure looks that way.........

This is a ploy to get the vice presidential debate moved from a critical toss up state. to a republican stronghold. People are not stupid. If you look at the statments made by Bush and by Ben Bernanke, then look at those made by McCain they all sound like they are saying the same thing. As soon as Ben said the economy was pretty much screwed then McCain finally tried to say the fundementals of the economy are strong by saying that he was talking about the american worker. Really John do we look that stupid.

"As soon as Ben said the economy was pretty much screwed then McCain finally tried to say the fundementals of the economy are strong by saying that he was talking about the american worker. Really John do we look that stupid."

Which makes Palin's defense all that more puzzling: she said McCain was referencing the grit and ingenuity of American workers, which still leaves the basic question:

Is the 'grit and ingenuity' of the economy strong, or is the 'grit and ingenuity' of the economy at risk?

When MCain gets back to the Senate floor he is going to start telling his favorite (2) jokes again:

Did you here the one about the women who got raped bya Gorilla and woke up dazed and confused but euphoric asking..."Where is that Gorilla....I want to see him again"...eluding she really enjoyed being raped.

or

Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly?... Because Janet Reno is her father.

Pretty funny shit.. huh ?

Obama was concerend about a joint statement and McCain was concerned over resolving the problem himself.

This is a flat out lie. After McCain anounced he was suspending his campaign, he called Letterman to cancel and said he was "heading back to DC immediately". McCain lied directly to Letterman.

He didn't go to DC and start working. He went down to makeup with Couric, to bail out Palin's deer in headlights performance.

Did McCain then go to DC to get to work? No, he stayed in New York, because he's at the Clinton Global Initiative this morning giving a speech!!

So McCain has no time to debate Obama, but he wasted all of Wed and Thurs morning in New York. McCain is completely full of shit. He could have gone to DC yesterday morning and made time for the debate.
He's playing politics to get out of a debate he's not ready for, and trying to cancel Palin's debate in the process.

It's one thing for McCain to suspend his campaign and actually go to DC, but it's quite another to suspend the campaign and then sit in New York doing nothing.

I was buying into McCain's reasoning for suspending the campaign and postponing the debate at first, but the fact that he didn't immediately return to DC?

He took a strong, smart move and turned it into a turd. Will he have the sense to flush it down the toilet? We'll see.

"Did Dobb's ask Frank why he blocked McCains attempt to fix this mess back in 2003 and 2005?"

Probably not because he is smart enough to remember that REPUBLICANS controlled both houses of Congress and thus blaming Democrats is just a bull shit talking point.
