About one-third of the absentee ballot applications received at the Hamilton County Board of Elections in Ohio have been ruled invalid because John McCain's presidential campaign printed a version of the form with an extra, unneeded box on it.

Same old tactics. Same old bullshit. Same old McSame.

Buffalo Bob, do you mean McCain's presidential campaign in the headline?

Once upon a time, McCain was desperate and trying to shoot down soaring 'rock star' Obama --- and lobbed Paris and Britney with some success.

Then with luck, he found his own 'rock star' Palin who pushed Obama from the limelight by knocking down some Greek columns.

McCain found his Obama. Now Obama has to find his Palin to revive his wilting mojo.

Oh Hillary, where art thou?

This article says that 1/3 of Absentee applications printed by the McCain campaign are invalid due to an extra box, that wasn't necessary, where you affirm that you are an elibible voter.

This is a faux pas on McCain's part, not a tactic working to his benefit. This helps Obama.

"In a narrow interpretation of Ohio law, Democratic Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner says many of the McCain forms have not been completed properly."

Not to be overly cynical, but I'm smelling a rat (or maybe a donkey) here.. disenfranchisement, I thought those nasty republicans did that?

McCain's campaign have the box in Ohio, leave out critical instructions in Virginia, and mail out unsolicited absentee ballots to people in Florida to remove valid voters from the rolls. They really need to get their act together with their caginig practices. They're getting nailed.

"not to be overly cynical...."

No, in this case, just overly dumb. Please read the article and then think about what was done. The chances it will stroke you out are no more than one in three.

Of course our right-wing republitards will be continuously deflective on this one.

Once again we must face the potential of the Republican Machine stealing yet another election.

results?

More Bankruptcy
More Forclosure
More Unemployment
More Inflation
More Unbalanced deficit
More Debt
More HATE
MORE BLAME
MORE PRISON
MORE DEATH...

Are you sure you want to vote republican again? My Gosh, at some point your 8 year period of embarassment has to cave into reason and logic.

"Hi, I'm John McSame. And I Approve of the Destruction of the Middle Class!"

And what may I ask is a "More Unbalanced deficit"

Is this a new left wing platform?

So sending out ballots which could come back as spoiled and not be counted is helpful to the Republican machines ability to steal a election?

CRISPEE...
good question. There must be some logic behind this scheme to to reduce the number of republican voters so the republicans can steal another election... a conspiracy, that's it... but sadly, logic and democrats do not equate... picking them off is sooo much fun!

Gee, you all make it sound like it will not be fixed.

It sounds like an Ohio problem. "Brunner said state law does not require one standardized form to apply for an absentee ballot. While the Secretary of State prints its own application, the law says it need not be a particular form. A voter can merely send a letter with personal information that identifies him or her as a qualified elector to receive an absentee ballot, Brunner said."

SO why do the boxes matter in the first place? Oh because some Democrat on the election board says sop. Got it!

And what if it is the printer's fault? A Union Shop no less. Then that would be sabotage.

Wow. Talk about journalistic license on the headline.

How about, "Democratic Secretary of State Disenfranchises Hundreds of Republican Voters"?

Or

"Buffalo Bob Legitimizes Democratic Election Fraud"

I am 99.9999% of the time on the left of just about any story here, but this time I have to agree with rightisright. You guys have turned the facts of this story on their head.

McCain's campaign sent out absentee ballots to their absentee Republican voters and put an unnecessary box to check on it making the ballot ineligible if not checked. This makes the McCain campaign a bunch of amateur idiots but it doesn't make them guilty of attempted election fraud - the opposite, in fact. Vote Republican so they can continue screwing up everything in sight, including their own campaigns.

I just got a request for a campaign contribution from McCain. It asked me to use my own stamp rather than returning it postage-free so that they can save money. I was just about to tear it up when I noticed that so naturally I took the trouble to write an abusive remark on the letter, sealed it up and returned it. Not often you get the chance to decrease the campaign funds of your opponents. Thanks, John. And Sarah.

There's no fraud here - there' a ticky-tack
technicality. Nothing to get alarmed about.

The big deal are the numerous dumb asses (democrats)
who can't successfully fill out a voting ballot
and then cry "foul", "shenanigans" & "racism".

How many republicans, libertarians, greenies, independents,
etc.,...fuck-up their ballot (or otherwise fail to vote)
and then cry blood murder? [none]

...boo hoo...no one handed me a ballot, I've been
disenfranchised, where's the ACLU?...A guy named
Dean Buvia told me democrats were supposed to vote
on Wednesday - how was I to know any different?...
No one told me I had to register to vote...this is
unfair, incindiery, and divisive!...boo hoo...

You guys have turned the facts of this story on their head.

What "the facts" are you talking about? The law is the law. McCain put out his own absentee ballot application with just this result in mind. The fact is that a democrat interpreted the law as it read instead of making up what she wanted it to say. So, blame her for the problem rather than the man who had a million absentee ballots printed? Maybe this republican logic is catching. Maybe it is a new disease that affects the mind.

Dean Buva

He didn't mail them to republicans. You can get lists of registered voters--didn't you know that?

It was probably only a technicality which was overlooked by those in the McCain camp who drafted the absentee ballot form. Has anyone thought to check for errors on absentee ballots mailed out by McCain in states other than Ohio? Just wondering.

When those types of absentee voter forms (like the ones sent out by McCain) are printed up and sent out in a mass mailing it's normally only to voters registered in their own party and often come with a request for a campaign donation. I've received many of them myself.

Most political candidates are not going to bother sending out absentee ballot forms to voters who are members of another political party. Why go to the expense when those voters most likely wouldn't be voting for you anyway. It would make no sense. I think it was just a drafting/printing error by McCain's people and nothing more.

But, there is one interesting little fact to this story in that this absentee ballot form error took place in Ohio (although I doubt it had anything to do with the ballot error being done deliberately) and that is the following --

Did you know that NO Republican (since Abraham Lincoln in 1860) has ever won the Presidency without also carrying the State of Ohio? Should I raise an eyebrow or is it just a coincidence.

The only difference between the State issued absentee ballot request and the one McCain sent out is that box.

Of course it was deliberate.

Of course it was planned.

What "the facts" are you talking about? ....

Come on, Bob...how may democrats are going to John McCain for their absentee ballot application?

The answer is NONE. This only effects republicans.

Voter scams and schemes, caging, push-pull polls using inflammatory lies and innuendo.

More of the same Karl Rove tactics.

Biden is middle class with a mortgage from paying for his kids education, and a net worth of between $60,000-$150,000. He gets it.

Whoooa wait a minute. It was probably printed in the west part of town where the illegals can not read english. Open border! Thanks Bush.

makes me laugh (actually nauseous) that you guys are talking about "republican tricks" now but weren't willing to take it to the streets after the last two elections. when you're ready, give me a call.

The latest Zogby poll shows McCain gaining ground on electoral counts.

You guys have turned the facts of this story on their head.

....or maybe the McCain campaigni s just incompetent...maybe it's a vision of the future.

Too bad his kids will be going to jail soon. He gets it alright. Straight from the lobbyists he got to employ them.
