Cindy McCain's misuse of painkillers nearly 20 years ago had consequences beyond the personal ones she has discussed publicly, according to today's Washington Post. It prompted a criminal investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and local prosecutors, the closure of her medical charity, and the loss of license of a doctor with the charity.

When questions arose about a vacation the McCains took to Keating's home in the Bahamas, Cindy McCain, as family bookkeeper, was asked to document that they had reimbursed the Keatings, but she could not.

Change!

Change!

Loose change...

Here we go.

For the record: I'm an Obama supporter. Unless this can relate to some impropriety on McCain's part, family should remain out of bounds.

However: I am an Obama supporter. Unless BOTH sides agree and follow thorugh with this, then the McCains and the Palins deserve the same treatment that thier side gives to the Obama family.

Cindy McCain's recovery from painkiller abuse is a publicly acknowledged part of her life that she has talked about with the media. I think it's worthwhile for the Post to dig into it, particularly since there's the possibility that the DEA and/or local prosecutors looked the other way rather than charge her.

Wasn't there a story here about Biden's kid having a drug arrest but it was blown off as nothing because it was from 20 years ago?

"For the record: I'm an Obama supporter. Unless this can relate to some impropriety on McCain's part, family should remain out of bounds."

Yesterday on Back Page there was an article that said Gosinski claims McCAin used his office to try and prevent any investigation of the matter. That would make it very much the public's business.

Going back twenty years into someone's private life is unConstituional and a terrible Facist abuse of power.

She made a mistake. She changed course. Leave this elitist woman alone in this regard.

But do not hesitate to criticize the McCains for being the true out of touch elitists that spend $300,000 on a dress for Cindy to wear for one day.

It is a sad story when people get involved with drugs. At least circumstances lead to an intervention ...so she could get treatment. She not only messed up her life and the doctors...but doomed her charity.

Sounds like the informer had some impetus to start speaking out with accusations at this time. The fact that he tried to extort 250 G's makes him suspect.

Then again...CREW is a pretty credible group.

I guess we will see .

Wasn't there a story here about Biden's kid having a drug arrest but it was blown off as nothing because it was from 20 years ago?

Good question.

If Biden's kid had been a story on the front page of the Washington Post, as Cindy McCain's story is today, I probably would've run it here. Instead, that Ashley Biden post was a link to an old misdemeanor record in an arrest database with nothing new.

"Instead, that Ashley Biden post was a link to an old misdemeanor record in an arrest database with nothing new."

Kind of like an old addiction story, huh?

"out of bounds."
Bullshit! Way IN BOUNDS! McCain is a Drug War hawk who has little compassion for addicts, and little understanding of the role of drugs in society, but when it's his wife and he could put his money where his mouth is, he shuts up. He protected his wife to protect his career and her money. He's a get-tough-on-crime politician except for his own family, and he perpetuates the double standard that makes being poor the worst crime going. He wants to execute drug kingpins -- does that include Pfizer executives? He's against methadone treatment for heroin addicts, apparently figuring they deserve to suffer. He does not believe in legalizing marijuana, a much safer release from life's stress than vicodin. Cindy McCain's situation is in bounds because it helps show the giant hypocrite McCain and his ilk are, and he does not give a crap about regular people like he pretends, only about himself and his politics. He dishonestly villified staff rather than own up to the problem, and not only is his staff expendable to protect his selfish interests, we the people are expendable to him, too. And I don't think she's off the stuff, either.

did obama go into rehab for his heroin and cocaine addiction?

Ill take a reformed "so called" drug addict over a terrorist loving amercia hating fool anyday...

Ahhhh yes, the retards are flocking.....

and BTW, it's a glorious afternoon in terrorist loving AMERCIA

cindy mccain stole drugs from her own charity. what family values! she's trash and has no place living in the white house.

personally

i could care less what cindy did

legalize

and disband those thugs they call the DEA

and rob
yes
there was a post about biden's son

and my answer is the same to that too

legalize
disband the dea.

by the way

if mccain told me he would legalize

i would switch my vote from obama to mccain

will senator mccain want as much transparency in
this matter as he wanted when the abu ghrab story
broke and our soldiers were in the streets of
bagdad

Cindy McCain would make a BETTER VP than that WHACK JOB from Alasaka!

OK...so let me get this straight.

It is an ISSUE that CINDY MCCAIN - the wife with no decision making authority in the government may have had a drug issue...but it is no issue that the CANDIDATE for PRESIDENT - OBAMA DID use all sorts of drugs..just not Heroin. (by his own admission)

It IS an issue that something MAY have happened 20 year ago with some POTENTIAL illegal funding - But Obama 1 B in ear mark payoffs - and prior to that the funneling of money to Rezco for low income housing that NOBODY was living in is NOT an issue.

It IS an issue that people want to smoke tobacco and it should be outlawed...but it ISNT an issue that they want to smoke MJ or do anything else..that should all be legalized.

Read the post above and that is exactly what you all are saying - and why we just shake our heads and realise we are trying to reason with those who do not understand the word.

"Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000"

Didn't help; she still looks like a pole-dancer twenty years past her prime.

One can see desperation the liberals are displaying --- rehashing old tales about McCain and hiding and defending everything about Obama. No wonder the ordinary folks who will decide this election have a healthy disdain for the liberal media.

Cindy thinks being a drug addict and a thief makes you a better person:
"I think it made me a better person as well as a better parent,..."

Ruining others lives and bringing a charity down made her a better person?

I wonder what LimpBlob would say about all of this. He is the one who has repeatedly said that "all drug addicts should be thrown in jail".....right up until we found out HE WAS A DRUG ADDICT.

They always try to make the first lady out to be a role model for young woman. I wonder if America really wants a thief and a drug addict as a role model for their daughters?

When Bidens son may be the 'first lady', then it might matter.

.....and another quarter-million dangling from her ears.

I think 'mrbgoode' had quite an overdose before spitting out such junks%#t...!!!
And, it does not matter what her dress, jewelry, etc. cost, because it was 'earned' money by her family and left to her... I am sure all the whiny little idiots that continue the barf about the wealth would also be the first and noble ones to turn it down should their family have left them a fortune... what small-minded jealous whimps we have in this society... go out and get a real job and make some money on your own instead of being such pantywaists.. as to her addiction vs 'war on drugs', there is no excuse in what she did, but it is far from the real drug problems we have.. I think if one reads back, she did not start off 'voluntarily' taking drugs as a 'joy ride' like the 'Hollywood' kid who wants to grow up and be President... keep the facts in perspective..!!!!

For the record: I'm an Obama supporter. Unless this can relate to some impropriety on McCain's part, family should remain out of bounds.

Agreed I would rather talk about the lies coming out of their campaign and constantly being told and retold. It is one thing to stretch the truth but it is another when you caught and still continue to repeat it. This is what the Goebels and the Nazis did in Germany pre world war 2 and during. What is wrong with the conservatives that seem to simply not see what is going on? This isn't a matter of a difference of opinion it is a matter of brain power plain and simple.

And, like there are NEVER any misrepresentations coming out of the OBAMA camp....??????????? or, being transgressed through supporters of OBAMA to keep the stench off him directly and his shiftiness of words?????

Now I don't give a shit about cindy and what went on 20 years ago with drugs.

I only care about the dress and when she does her taxes if the dress has any type of write off. I have a problem then.

If cindy was put in charge of some war on drugs program having any type of policy decisions then maybe this would have some value but since that is not the case, wasted story.

being transgressed through supporters of OBAMA to keep the stench off him directly and his shiftiness of words?????

This caused me to laugh though, no one has been more shifty with words than palin, no one through all the debates.

Think you have been listening too well, maybe you need to pull the ear plugs out and shake your head when she speaks.

"This caused me to laugh though, no one has been more shifty with words than palin, no one through all the debates."

Yes, I have been listening WELL to the subtlety in Obama's words, as most everyone else.. his attempt to hide behind his statements of shiftiness by using well-worn statements: "I misspoke", "I used the wrong words", "People misunderstood" and similar 'qualifications' that purport his lame attempt to disguise his objectives... we hear them all...!!!! I hear her, also... and she has a long way to go to fall into the same slime pit that this 'affirmative action' candidate resides...

All the time he speaks, he's waving his hands and saying... "hold on... let me explain"... code words for give me a second to think my way out of this. Give me a break... he's a damn lawyer. He's slick and not truthfully representing himself because he's not only a liberal but about as far left as you can get... hardly a "consensus" builder

Dr soul.......just another loser.

Smaahmouth.....Dr soul with another post name.

Moneywar....you can only begin to use the word 'loser' as that is probably the only way that you see yourself and do not know anyone outside of that framework, so to 'feel good', you have to try and bring everyone down to your level.. save all of your Obama 'bling' as it may bring you some good dollars one day and you can stand on your own..!!! people like you need Obama to keep receiving the checks...

You are 'dead on target' smashmouth...!!!

DR... we must not be remiss in reminding the uninlightened of the facts... DR

I agree.... too many have been inappropriately 'smoozed' by the Hollywood feature.. Smiling face, weak script, lack of substance and BS artist...!!!!

Obama even makes Paris Hilton appear to be intelligent...

Did I hear somethin? I look at the last few posts and see blah blah blah!

Your posts make about this much sense, l;
ahgphbsngsljbisnglbvosihgsnknb
oghsvoihl ahvpshupogfasjvphvpshdvndsfuha
dphbnadfhf apohvfpdohvpsohvosvpohspdoivhs
novdvapohvpoh!!!!!!

Looks like we are right on target about 'moneywar'.. "Thanks", your response confirms all observations about you... even clearer than our own statements..

And to think MONEYWAR would actually sit at a computer to do this... unless there was a surrogate used. Maybe if DR had voice recognition we would hear his response... "woof... woof"

It makes a differance, drsoul, because as first lady, she holds a pseudo-political position next to her husband. often, that carries over to the "family values-just say no to drugs- abstinance only philosophy" of the 'pub party. Especially when you'll condem and imprison others for something you got away with, most likely from interferance from your politician husband.
There is no better definition of "elitism".
Further more, the use-even abuse of drugs is not the problem, but the way society, under laws passed by a minority of people whom disregard their obligations to represent all equally, persecutes and criminalizes the activity, often at the expense of other laws that would go further to reducing the occurance and minimizing the effect on society. The fact that these laws came into existance, not for the better of society, but because wealthy business owners and religious leaders got tired of having their employees and community members saying "no thanks" to an intrusion into their lives, simply so they could make more profit and assume more authority over other citizens whom they, and they alone declared less than usefull to society.
Also, you should understand that every job is a real job, and that the positions in highest demand in this country are the lowest paid. Here's a clue for you: if it is something that you wont do, for any price, why should someone like you then dictate the value of someone that will? A doctor is no more important than a baker, nor more valuable. Same goes for virtually any other position, even politicians and lawyers, business managers, etc.
I am neither a republithug or demosplat.

One last thing. I have walked away from more money than you will ever see, and have literally lost millions, and shrugged it off.
But then, my conscience, my values and my morality cannot be bought at any price.
The wealth of the few exists at the cost of prosperity for the masses.

And wealth changes hands every year because we live in a great country based on capitalism. These posts seem to suggest there is this wealthy elite and it is true to some degree, but much of it comes as goes like the tides. And a doctor IS worth more economically due to the responsibility of his actions... unless you bake razor blades in your twinkies. But everyone has worth and value in this country... the opportunity to advance to whatever they want... and a right to vote.

And I walked away from more twinkies than you could ever imagine... literally losing millions... but oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Again, this comes right back to "Would Karl Rove hesitate to use something like this against Barak Obama?" Absolutely NOT! He would have his minions shouting it from the rooftops. Fixed Noise would be headlining it and bannering it across the bottom of the screen 24/7! It is time the gloves come off, DNC. Fight fire with fire because the repuliscans are certainly not going to give any ground here and they are the acknowledged experts at playing down and dirty. Cindy McCain had (and for all we know HAS) a drug problem. That makes her a recovering addict. Which First Lady had a serious problem while in the White House because of the pressure? Really - wasn't it Betty Ford? And didn't she open a series of rehab facilities because of that experience? If Cindy McCain is a recovering addict, then that needs to be front and center because it could certainly impact the Presidency. And Karl Rove would be having a picnic lunch on the bones of Senator Obama if this story had been about Michelle, not Cindy. Just as the repuliscans would have been lighting torches and marching to protest the lack of moral authority had one of Senator Obama's daughters appeared with him at the acceptance speech pregnant and unwed. Who is kidding who here? The families off limits? Only to those who actually have an ethical center and we all know what THAT gets them. Zilch. Zip. Nada and certainly NOT a reservation in the White House for the next 4 years.

No, they are not.

That is what elitism is. That somehow, your value to society is more valuable than others. And as far as doctors go, they are pretty much in the pocket of big pharma, and are the largest dealer of drugs.
Most of them far more dangerous than anything you'll buy on the street, more dangerous than the condition they are supposedly prescribed for.
And it is interesting that the more elite ones "skill" is considered, the less likely they are to be required to guarantee their work.
I have yet to meet a lawyer, doctor, teacher and a host of others do this. Of course, they are most likely to be self policed in standards, and backed by the political clout they receive thru their lobbying, are insulated from oversight by the general public. The standards are set by a "cleansed" outcome. Thus the AMA's outrage that the general public can rate their doctors in an on-line format. They call it dangerous to the craft.
In my work, the outcome is set by the standards. Except at the corporate level, where they also "cleanse" the standards. Often their failures become mine, a passing of the buck to the lowest entry point.
Another case in this point, would be the trucking industry, but we dont have time for that discussion.
Just ask any driver as to whom carries the brunt of oversight and enforcement.
another time, perhaps.

Hey smashmouth, we can add one more of 'Barry's boyz" to the list who have graduated from the Obama school of 'bulls%#t'... and, Cindy McCain has been 'front and center' about the issue..was not hidden when the Repubs nominated him... I think gitmboy has started the weekend smoking heavy already or dropped something in his coffee...!!!
