In seven years the only real change I see in this country is that people used to get death threats when they said something negative about Bush, and now they get death threats when they say it about Palin.

Zed,

The only real change is that the government is crawling up law abiding citizen every single chance it gets in the name of security.

Airports.

Banks.

Brokerage Houses.

Wiretapping.

Domestic Spying.

Loyalty Oaths.

You name it.

freedom isn't free
it just costs about as much as freedom

In seven years the only real change I see in this country is that people used to get death threats when they said something negative about Bush, and now they get death threats when they say it about Palin."

Really? That's the only thing you've noticed changing in our country in the last seven years?

Do you get out much? Do you own a radio or tv?

The damage will not be undone by those whose incompetence and poor policy have turned a disaster into a way of life.

"Anybody who believes that the Republicans can fix the mess they created probably believes that the iceberg could have saved the Titanic," -HC

"That's the only thing you've noticed changing in our country in the last seven years?"

oh yea
i noticed that the us govt is bailing out every major corporation aside from oil

i also noticed that 2million plus americans lost their homes

i also noticed that over 6% of americans are unemployed

i also noticed 4000 american's died for a war that should never have happened, and even if it did need to happen, i noticed that it was completely lead with incompetence and over zealousness.

in case you didn't notice
lehman posted a mutli billion dollar loss as well
how much longer till we bail them out as well

or mabye they aren't cool enough to save if they fall.

i noticed that 4 year old kids are on the no fly list

i noticed that we are all georgians

i noticed karl rove skip out of a subpena and show regular people like me that republican leadership is above the law

did i miss something from the tv?

I never said it changed for the better. I'm just surprised the only thing Zed noticed was something about death threats.

Want one of your own?

I noticed people being locked up without a trial.

I noticed our constitution being raped and left for dead.

I noticed a police state slowly taking hold.

I noticed regular citizens being harrassed and reporters being locked up.

I noticed big steaming piles of lies and incompetence coming from the white house.

I noticed government induced paranoia to the point where average people think they have to accept lose of freedoms to secure safety.

I noticed oil companies getting record profits.

I noticed the rest of the world turning against us because they do not live under the military industial complex that controls our narrative.

I noticed no-bid contracts in Iraq

I noticed our oild companies crying to drill more and capped active wells sitting dormant

I noticed those same companies selling our oil surplus to china.

Did Cohen notice how many attacks on American soil since 9-11? I would say that is change for the better. Of course then one would have to give Bush the smallest of credit. Which will happen when hell freezes over. Or the Eagles win the Super Bowl.
(Sorry Rob) Go Cowboys.

Here's what I learned. You guys never learn anything. You can still leave a briefcase unattended in a courthouse in the US and nobody even bothers to notice it. You can leave a suitcase unattended in a US airport and nobody thinks that it is suspicious, leave a suitcase unattended at Heathrow and you can count in seconds how long it will take for that suitcase to be taken care of. You can walk into a Mall or department store, set down a package and walk away and nothing will be done. You could leave a backpack in a bar full of Marines and nobody would even think twice about it (until it blows up). If the Brits learned anything from the IRA it was that it is not just the huge spectacular attacks that hit home, it is small, half a dozen people in a mall type attacks that hit home. You guys have never learned that, and probably never will. That is what scares me.

"That is what scares me...."

Dead on.

The fact there haven't been additional terrorist attacks could suggest at least two things beyond Bush's favorite explanation---

1) The terrorist threat to the US was never that great.

2) The terrorists have a wholly different concept of warfare than we do, episodic rather than climactic.

We see inaction and assume we must be winning. That's about the silliest assumption possible.

Thaks for the laughs people.

You're right Brit.

Crispee,

Is regurgitating a Republican talking point. Another BIG LIE. The ElAl ticket counter was machine gunned by an Arab, the Anthrax attacks which targeted Dems, Mohamad and Malvo were on a rampage for several months, a teenage copy cat drove a Cessna into a Florida hi-rise, Trolly Square lost 5 people to a Serbian teen gunman...and what happened in the USA is tame to what has happened worldwide, London, Spain, Bali... this is a very long list.

Keep in mind that direct hits on the US by alQaida is different every time and has historically occurred every 4-6 years. So I suppose Rethuglican morons on this site will blame the next administration if its Obama and find no fault if its McSame.

I'll tell you where America is at this stage, bye-bye American dollar... that's where.

"It's an unmitigated disaster. I don't know where these guys get the audacity to take our money - taxpayer money - and buy stock in Fannie Mae."

AMERICA IS NOW COMMUNIST

You can walk into a Mall or department store, set down a package and walk away and nothing will be done.

Sorry, Brit, but in most of the world an unattended package draws huge suspiscion and concern. Maybe in your safe white suburb this is not the case, but everywhere else it will be noticed and dealt with

Because before 9-11 we were being attacked on a regular basis... thank god bush made us all so much safer. I wasn't really using my civil rights anyway.

Laws, Rules, you name it, it is getting a little out of hand.

In seven years the only real change I see in this country is that people used to get death threats when they said something negative about Bush, and now they get death threats when they say it about Palin.

and they get arrested or shot as a result for making those threats..

Yea right name one case where that ever happened

I would say that is change for the better. Of course then one would have to give Bush the smallest of credit.

What was it exactly that Bush did that he should get credit for us not being attacked? Was it when he sat in that classroom for7 minutes while America was being attacked? Was it when he fought so hard against the commission to investigate 911? Was it the attack on a foreign country that never even made a threat to us that stopped any attacks? How about those sealed up borders---is that what makes us safe? Fighting them over there so we don't fight them over here? Did you buy that biscuit? You must think the terrorists can't afford a plane ticket. Four or five snipers in America would make pants pisser live up to their name. Remember the snipers around Washington? People were freaked. That's effective terrorism. How about a few suicide bombers on Fifth Ave. NYC? They seem to have them to spare---why do you think they aren't blowing themselves up here where there death would spread much more terror? Tell me what Bush has done that he should get a pat on the back. Tell me what he has done to stop the scenarios I have mentioned.

Nothing.

Clinton had no attacks on American soil longer than Bush---and he caught the bad guys who attacked the WTC the first time---but I guess one would have to give Clinton the smallest of credit. Which will happen when hell freezes over. Or the Browns win the Super Bowl.

I probably would not really have noticed had I not spent so much time here, but I have it a whole lot better than most people. They talk about how their civil liberties have eroded or been taken away completely. This has not happened to me unless you count having to take my shoes off at the airport and have a minimum wage earner scribble his initials on my boarding pass. I never had to tolerate this before. Oh yeah, my passport looks different.

So I really feel sorry for you guys who have been so violated. In fact, I even a little bit guilty that I have somehow escaped these indescretions. I just hope my good luck holds out because at this time my life is not significantly different than it was 7 years ago. And 7 years ago I had no complaints.

and have a minimum wage earner scribble his initials on my boarding pass.

Proof Positive.

Goatman is an elitist.

Ted-
He's not an elitist, he just looks upon those earning less than him as inferior.

Oh.

Goatman is an elitist.

???

No, lots of people who fly are not elitists, tfd. Get a grip, will you?

He's not an elitist, he just looks upon those earning less than him as inferior.

???

I didn't know that. Thank you for once again assigning positions to me that I am unaware of boyd.

So I really feel sorry for you guys who have been so violated. In fact, I even a little bit guilty that I have somehow escaped these indescretions. I just hope my good luck holds out because at this time my life is not significantly different than it was 7 years ago. And 7 years ago I had no complaints.

Good for you. It's been bad for me. Some episodes nearly unbearable. But as long as you're happy and you haven't suffered, then what the hell! Life's good.

Some episodes nearly unbearable.

With me too. I was laid off after 9/11 and worked a minimum wage (can I say that without being called an elitist?) job for three years. It took a huge chunk of my 401k to survive. But I learned to rebound and carry on with life. Crying about it daily (and I'm not saying your are, Yav -- please don't get me wrong) does no good.

Although I've had my share of rough spots, life is as good for me today as it was 7 years ago. Having hit my nadir 12 years ago, there really isn't much I can complain about again. Everything else is only up from that point in 1996.

Goatman-
When you were struggling did you run into many condescending and dismissive assholes such as your present self and think: someday....

?

When you were struggling did you run into many condescending and dismissive assholes such as your present self and think

Not being a condescending and dismissive asshole, your question is meaningless.

Would you care to rephrase? Or do I have to wait for you to grow up first?

So I really feel sorry for you guys who have been so violated. In fact, I even a little bit guilty that I have somehow escaped these indescretions. The embassy in Kenya was American soil. The embassy in Tanzania was American soil. Both were attacked in 1998, under the watch of your beloved Bill Clinton, and he did nothing.

The attacks on Khobar Towers (1996) and the USS Cole (2000) were both directed at Americans, and his majesty Bill Clinton did nothing.

But of course, facts are always a challenge to a Boob who thinks the moon landings were faked by Bigfoot, and thousands of people surrendered their lives to fake 9/11.

Goat:

These are professional victims who blame every problem in life on someone else (makes them obedient Liberals). Their life sucks, and it's never their own doing.

Their life sucks, and it's never their own doing.

Maybe that's why I'm satisfied with mine. If I cause myself problems, I understand why I feel the way I do. Maybe if I blamed someone else for my shortcomings, I could be miserable and paranoid, too.

Nah -- I'll just keep things the way they are.

I'm satisfied with my life, but not our system of politics. It's garbage.

I find that so amusing. The 'there have been no attacks SINCE' crowd.

Give Bush credit? How about the attack THAT DID HAPPEN?

Its funny when people insist that we give Bushling credit for no more attacks on our homeland... not ever discussing that fact that he ignored or dismissed the intelligence that said the 9/11 attack was coming in the first place.

Now watch this swing.

Oh and then there is the matter of him standing on 3000 corpses at ground zero and told us to go shopping...

... gonna get him dead of alive...
... mission accomplished....
but my all time favorite right wingnut whine is the
...the the largest deficit in history is because we are fighting a war on terror... in a country that wasn't a threat... and is being fought with contracted mercenary forces that are being paid more than the US military forces... while we let the one that did it get away... and darn it you libruls won't thank us for it.

You perpetuate the lie... the deficit is 3% of GDP... its average over the past 30 years... and military spending was higher in the early Clinton years... until he gutted it...

I think the only real change that occurred with september 11th was that the people in power here have become more openly hostile to the interests of the populace. Not that they were any less hostile before, but now they don't even bother to hide the fact that they do whatever they want, and don't care.

I think there is too much distortion of fact, too much influence by wealthy and powerful individuals, and a nation that likes its politics like we like our sports... highly competitive. Unfiortunately, at least in sports you have a ref... and rules.

Seven years after the fall we are less free than we were on Sept. 10th.

Sooooo Varmit, Does this mean that W is responsible for all the attacks we've endured on American "soil"?

You are a piece of work....

And if so, he has a lousy track record for protecting the country even after he ignored warnings of 9/11..

2001
Sept. 11, New York City, Arlington, Va., and Shanksville, Pa.: hijackers crashed 2 commercial jets into twin towers of World Trade Center; 2 more hijacked jets were crashed into the Pentagon and a field in rural Pa. Total dead and missing numbered 2,9921: 2,749 in New York City, 184 at the Pentagon, 40 in Pa., and 19 hijackers. Islamic al-Qaeda terrorist group blamed. (See September 11, 2001: Timeline of Terrorism.)
2002
June 14, Karachi, Pakistan: bomb explodes outside American consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, killing 12. Linked to al-Qaeda.
2003
May 12, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: suicide bombers kill 34, including 8 Americans, at housing compounds for Westerners. Al-Qaeda suspected.
2004
May 2931, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: terrorists attack the offices of a Saudi oil company in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, take foreign oil workers hostage in a nearby residential compound, leaving 22 people dead including one American.
June 1119, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: terrorists kidnap and execute Paul Johnson Jr., an American, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 2 other Americans and BBC cameraman killed by gun attacks.
Dec. 6, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: terrorists storm the U.S. consulate, killing 5 consulate employees. 4 terrorists were killed by Saudi security.
2005
Nov. 9, Amman, Jordan: suicide bombers hit 3 American hotels, Radisson, Grand Hyatt, and Days Inn, in Amman, Jordan, killing 57. Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility.
2006
Sept. 13, Damascus, Syria: an attack by four gunman on the American embassy is foiled.
2007
Jan. 12, Athens, Greece: the U.S. embassy is fired on by an anti-tank missile causing damage but no injuries.
Dec. 11, Algeria: more than 60 people are killed, including 11 United Nations staff members, when Al Qaeda terrorists detonate two car bombs near Algeria's Constitutional Council and the United Nations offices.
2008
May 26, Iraq: a suicide bomber on a motorcycle kills six U.S. soldiers and wounds 18 others in Tarmiya.
June 24, Iraq: a suicide bomber kills at least 20 people, including three U.S. Marines, at a meeting between sheiks and Americans in Karmah, a town west of Baghdad.
June 12, Afghanistan: four American servicemen are killed when a roadside bomb explodes near a U.S. military vehicle in Farah Province.
July 13, Afghanistan: nine U.S.soldiers and at least 15 NATO troops die when Taliban militants boldly attack an American base in Kunar Province, which borders Pakistan. It's the most deadly against U.S. troops in three years.
Aug. 18 and 19, Afghanistan: as many as 15 suicide bombers backed by about 30 militants attack a U.S. military base, Camp Salerno, in Bamiyan. Fighting between U.S. troops and members of the Taliban rages overnight. No U.S. troops are killed.

Here you go Varmit..www.infoplease.com
This is what W should be responsible for.

Just for the record..... where is bin ladin if W is so valiant????

Of course the war in IRAQ has made us safer though.

Seven years ago, people who claimed that the end of the world is near were considered whack jobs. Now they get nominated to be vice president.

"... the deficit is 3% of GDP..."

That's a meaningless statistic, though it's often cited. The real metric is the percentage of federal outlay going to service the debt, choking off a society's choices. When Bush took office, it was 11%. Today, it's 16.6%, a rise of over 50% in one administration, and an all-time high.

"Today, it's 16.6%, a rise of over 50% in one administration, and an all-time high."

Am I missing something... Congress pushed through the increases in the budget every year. Bush never vetoed anything until this past year... and he should have. Dem's in 2006 said they would bring change... but Pelosi and Reed pushed through over 7% increase last year and since in charge, have increased it by a half-trillion...

"Am I missing something..."

Yes...the fact that a 3% deficit-to-GDP ratio isn't the metric. It's what does one out of six dollars cost our society versus one dollar in nine. The 3% fallacy ignores the cumulative effects of year-over-year deficits.

"...but Pelosi and Reed..."

For better or worse, Presidents get the nod. It was called The Reagan Revolution, not The Tip O'Neill Compromise.

And Pelosi & Reid are jagoffs. If the Dems win, but don't replace them, they're idiots.

Obama the great socialist will tax every last free business and take every penny from the rich and distribute amongst the masses!

Wow the Bolshevik party is alive with Obama!!!!!

Gobama!
