The Interior Department agency that collects oil and gas royalties has been caught up in a wide-ranging ethics scandal -- including allegations of financial self-dealing, accepting gifts from energy companies, cocaine use and sexual misconduct.

This is a biggie - "A culture of ethical failure" at one of the government's largest sources of revenue.

Time for a new administration, no more cronyism and corruption!

At the least we could try!

I'm sure the lobbyists running McCain's campaign have some kind of a solution to clear this mess up.

STOP CALLING SARAH A PIG.

But two of the highest-ranking officials who were targets of the investigations will apparently escape sanction. Both retired during the investigation, rendering them safe from any administrative punishment, and the Justice Department has declined to prosecute them on the charges suggested by the inspector general.
---------------

why is the answer from the GB Justice dept. always "declined to prosecute"...

It's good to be king.

In the midst of a bitter campaign season where we are literally at eachothers' throats, a moment of unity is appreciated.

Enter Frank55.

This guy has to be the most uh-funny person in history. I am confident that we can ALL agree upon this truth.

But these were the pre-McCain/Palin Republicans, you know the corrupt ones, with Sheriff McCain all corruption by Republicans will stop because he will have the same lobbyists running things that run his dishonest campaign. I think it would be a safe bet to say that the more a campaign lies to get elected the more likely it will be a corrupt administration if elected.
McCain's would be a continuation of Bush and everyone knows it though some pretend differently because they are
a) partisan hacks
b) benefit from the Bush tax cuts
c) religious conservatives who would let the country go to hell as long as the guy leading it claims to give a crap about abortion and gays.

This guy has to be the most uh-funny person in history. I am confident that we can ALL agree upon this truth.

I'll second that.

FF for Frank!

I guess Sarah is the right's new Bush. They defend them both like they were their own retarded children.

"They defend them (Palin and Bush) like they were their own retarded children....."

The retarded children analogy is very apt, save that Bush is now the "bad" retarded child and is banished to the attic, permiited to speak to the Republican Convention only by video.

Ah, but remember the days when he WAS loved and adored, his every poopie a gift of God and a sure sign of talent.

Yeah but....

sincerely,

The Right

The Right is cheating!
Bring in Sarah Palin, quick!

"Massive New Scandal at Bush Interior Department"

Liberal's fault.

Sincerely,
Joe

So what there is an election going on.

Sincerely,
Joe

Remember when Bush used to promise he was going to return respect and responsibility to government because he had a business background and knew how to manage. BULLSHIT!

I'm not letting Congress off the hook here either. The Republican's let him do whatever the hell he wanted and didn't say a word. Pelosi and Reid say all kinds of crap but don't do a thing about it.

Why in the hell is impeachment off the table? Pelosi abdicated her constitutional responsibility the day she said that.

Why the fuck isn't this on the front page? Rogers treats this place like a red headed step-child.

There shouldn't be a Minerals Management Service, and if these scandals help to hasten its demise, we'll all be better off.

It has always been their business to steal from the American People on behalf of mineral, coal and oil extractors. If the owners were American Indians the stealing rises to the level of murder.

For example Indians were moved off Texas Oil Wells into the four corners area, to a site covered in Uranium tailings. Needless to say the Tribe suffers from extremely high cancer rates. It goes without saying that no one involved in these crimes has ever been punished. It was all done with oil company lawyers and winks from the Department of Interior and Bureau of Indian Affairs.

I'll bet you a dollar to a dog turd that it was done by thoes buracrats and not Bush appointees.

"thoes(sic) buracrats(sic)"

Whatever that is.

Illiterate moron flag.

Mongoloid he was a mongoloid, one chromosome too many.

These are the same bastards that closed 30 miles of our beaches for 6 piping plovers. Six stupid birds that don't have enough sense than to build there nest on an open beach during Hurricane season.

Goatmam agrees Zat.

I was shocked to wake up and see the words "sex" and "drugs" on the cover of the Wall Street Journal this morning, then I remembered Rupert Murdoch had taken over.

OK RIR.
Even if one accepts your deflection that the agency should not exist, the fact that it does and was run in a racketeering mode must be acknowledged and repudiated, something I would expect from all 'Fiscal Conservatives" who promised that W would bring integrity back to Washington.

The scandal is not just that this gross corruption went on; the real scandal is that Bush's DOJ declined to prosecute.

The party of personal responsibility has ducked the responsibility of enforcing the laws as they are written. The IG recomended prosecution.
Bush's DOJ, riddled with devinity school grads who worship W (a job requirement as admitted by the ditz Monigoo) and improperly hired prosecutors looks at and yawns.

That, is the real scandal.

Own it right wing bitches.

Massive NEW scandal in the Shrub mis-administration? This is SO yesterday's news! There are ALWAYS scandals in this total failure of an administration. So what? McBush was a POW so let's have ANOTHER four years of the same old, same old! Move along, move along - nothing to see here.

Illiterate moron flag.

You're right zat. I can't spell very well so I guess that makes me as stupid as you. You can't think!

Nice link Jackass.

I love how all of you have jumped on this without reading the article. Typical fucking stupid lib lemmings.

I'm so obsessed with Joe that I can't help but think about him day and night. I sit outside his house and blog from my car, listening to sad music and crying on my laptop.

-726 and Null Set

Unless W provides a blanket pardon to everyone in his administration for any crime that they might have done, it would seem to me that an Obama or McCain DOJ could still prosecute the bastards.

I love how you are more outraged by those of us who post than you are by the scandal, ignor8forever.

Just what does it take for any of our denizens from the right to say a simple "Wow, thats some fucked up shit. sombody aught to go to jail?"

If it is true, then people need to go to jail. I will not convict people just because of a headline, like most of you in here do.

Fuck you Repub douche bag lying sack of shit.

Just what does it take for any of our denizens from the right to say a simple "Wow, thats some fucked up shit. sombody aught to go to jail?"

That somebody has to have a D after their name.

Ignor8forever,
Nobody is asking you to convict anybody, we would ask for a reflection of your conviction to law and order by repudiating corruption rather than embracing a culture of corruption as a good way achive your desired goal of seeing all regulation hobbled. (#19) and a justice department that is asleep at the switch when it comes to prosecution of racketeers posing as regulators.

Let's all read this article together shall we?

"Based in suburban Denver and modeled to operate like a private sector energy company, the decade-old royalty-in-kind program sells oil and gas on the open market. Its employees are subject to government ethics rules, such as restrictions on taking gifts from people and companies with whom they conduct official business."

This is NOT the "Bush" Interior Dept. It is a company based in Denver that was started a decade ago (that't 10 years folks) to collect royalties. It is subject to the government ethics rules but these are not Bush appointees. Most likely these crooks were hired while Clinton was Prez, not that it was his fault either.

Also, this involves 12 people out of the thousands on Interior employees. Is that "massive"?

OWS,

Hat's off to your 'eating the corn out of W's shit' comment the other day.

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. (I am serious)

Such hilarity buys you some slack in regards to your shitty politics!

OLDWHISKEY needs to go back to re-hab again. Alcoholics like to lash out against everyone around them when they get the DT's.

and for the majority of 'those bereaucrats' you would be wrong

but that never stopped liberal fucks before.

and I see that jomama has made another appearance.
I guess the "home" was having a free day out....

it will be interesting to see how this plays out. heads definitely need to roll.

well it seems that there were plenty of head jobs........is that what you are referring to....

sorry.........seemed funny at the time

bl2 you should be sec of education.

Again, the issue is less the corruption of the bureaucrats and more the corruption of the Bush Justice Department who refuse to enforce the law with prosecutions.

And thanks Jeff, for the satisfying approval of my comment to corny Eric.

FW, You take too much stock in the literal interpretation of my handle.

You probably think that Goatman is really a goat, or that Rob is really...but I argue against my case...never mind.

From the article:

The reports portray a dysfunctional organization that has been riddled with conflicts of interest, unprofessional behavior and a free-for-all atmosphere for much of the Bush administrations watch.

From the Rocky Mt news:

The head of MMS is Randall Luthi, who was appointed by President Bush in July 2007, said Wednesday he will take actions before the end of this administration and "not leave it for the next director."

I guess Texas wouldn't have any standards.

I guess we now know why McOld picked 'Plain'.

She know's big oil and she likes to fuck. Who better to be the madame of the Official WH Brothel than Madame Sarah. She'll be sure to keep all of the 'drill bits' lubed in order to keep that cash flowing.

Did I offend anyone?

I sure hope I did!

I'm not offended, but I flagged it anyway. That should be 3 dumps.

"it will be interesting to see how this plays out. heads definitely need to roll."

I don't think I'd go quite that far...

#31 | Posted by sitdown

You don't have a clue what a bureaucrat is do you? They are people that got a government job years ago and came up thru the ranks. Most of them that I know are not conseravatives.

How far down the food chain do you think the appointees go?

Sounds like the United Nations

Freddyk

It looks like you've got the time line wrong.

"Creation of MMS

In 1982, Congress passed the Federal Oil & Gas Royalty Management Act (72 KB PDF file) which mandates protection of the environment and conservation of federal lands in the course of building oil and gas facilities. The Secretary of the Interior designated the MMS as the administrative agency responsible for the mineral leasing of submerged OCS lands and for the supervision of offshore operations after lease issuance."

Clinton wasn't in charge then.
