Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The McCain campaign was unaware of a video -- available online -- in which Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin talks about God's role in U.S. military action overseas and in the building of a $30 billion pipeline. "God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she told members of her church.

CNN mentioned this video today but didn't play any excerpts from it.

I can do my part in working really, really hard to get a natural gas pipeline, about a $30 billion project that's going to create a lot of jobs for Alaska. [but] I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that,-- she said. I can do my job there in developing our natural resources, in doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded. But really that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's hearts aren't right with God.--

Seriously. I can't believe there are even any fucking idiots left after the Hope and Change mantra swept through town...

"Yes we can!"...

Three months before she was thrust into the national political spotlight, Gov. Sarah Palin was asked to handle a much smaller task: addressing the graduating class of commission students at her one-time church, Wasilla Assembly of God.

Her speech in June provides as much insight into her policy leanings as anything uncovered since she was asked to be John McCain's running mate.

www.huffingtonpost.com

According to Palin's long-time, now former, pastor, there is a time for war, and this is it:

What you see in a terrorist -- that's called the invisible enemy. There has always been an invisible enemy. What you see in Iraq, basically, is a manifestation of what's going on in this unseen world called the spirit world. ... We need to think like Jesus thinks. We are in a time and a season of war, and we need to think like that. We need to develop that instinct. We need to develop as believers the instinct that we are at war, and that war is contending for your faith. ... Jesus called us to die. You're worried about getting hurt? He's called us to die. Listen, you know we can't even follow him unless you are willing to give up your life. ... I believe that Jesus himself operated from that position of war mode. Everyone say "war mode." Now you say, wait a minute Ed, he's like the good shepherd, he's loving all the time and he's kind all the time. Oh yes he is -- but I also believe that he had a part of his thoughts that knew that he was in a war.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, had an "instinct" for war and operated out of a "war mode" and so should we? Does Palin believe this as well? If so, how does this square with McCain's claim that he "hates war" and will be a president of peace?

Its what keeps me grounded. Its what keeps my eyes set on the greatest of heights,-- Obama told members of the Redemption World Outreach Center in Greenville, S.C., according to The Associated Press.

Faith, he said, is what propels me to do what I do and when I am down its what lifts me up.--

God is with us and He wants us to do the right thing,-- such as breaking down divisions between Democrats and Republicans and among religions, according to AP.

When people work together, there is nothing that can stop us because thats Gods intention.-- the senator exhorted.

Any questions? Thought not.

From Bruce Wilson:

Sarah Palin's churches are actively involved in a resurgent movement that was declared heretical by the Assemblies of God in 1949. This is the same 'Spiritual Warfare' movement that was featured in the award winning movie, "Jesus Camp," which showed young children being trained to do battle for the Lord. At least three of four of Palin's churches are involved with major organizations and leaders of this movement, which is referred to as The Third Wave of the Holy Spirit or the New Apostolic Reformation. The movement is training a young "Joel's Army" to take dominion over the United States and the world.

. . .

The Third Wave is a revival of the theology of the Latter Rain tent revivals of the 1950s and 1960s led by William Branham and others. It is based on the idea that in the end times there will be an outpouring of supernatural powers on a group of Christians that will take authority over the existing church and the world. The believing Christians of the world will be reorganized under the Fivefold Ministry and the church restructured under the authority of Prophets and Apostles and others anointed by God. The young generation will form "Joel's Army" to rise up and battle evil and retake the earth for God.

"Joel's Army"

Holy Shit!

These people scare even Me.

"But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side of Chicago, I felt God's spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth." - BO

God, you are not paying attention.

"What moved me was the role all the congregations I worked with played in the life of the people I was working with," Obama said in an e-mail to the Monitor. "What touched me was how faith bolstered them against heartache and disappointment and kept them going." - BO

Clinging to his faith no less.

I think there is a difference between submitting yourself to God's will and then dedicating yourself to discovering His truth and thinking you already know God's truth and dedicating yourself to carrying out His will.

My faith teaches me that I can sit in church and pray all I want, but I wont be fulfilling Gods will unless I go out and do the Lords work,-- he said, speaking before more than 9,000 people at the Hartford Civic Center in front of a red and black backdrop with the churchs marketing slogan: God is still speaking.--

He must be hearing God too?

He "felt God's spirit beckoning me," he writes in "Audacity." "I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth."

Apparently so.

He says he prays every day, typically for "forgiveness for my sins and flaws, which are many, the protection of my family, and that I'm carrying out God's will, not in a grandiose way, but simply that there is an alignment between my actions and what he would want."

He is always asking to hear his will at the very least.

Libs are so transparently deaf on this issue when it concerns their "god".

Dems believe that God's will cannot be known-that you must just be the best person you can be-try to do what is right and just, and God will be pleased by that.

Fundies like Palin believe they already have God's truth-and are trying to impose THEIR will on the rest of the world.
They don't care if they're right or wrong-as long as they get their own way.

"Sarah Palin Signed "Christian Heritage Week" Proclamation" by David Brody

Here is the Proclamation:

WHEREAS, the celebration of Christian Heritage Week, October 21-27, 2007, reminds Alaskans of the role Christianity has played in our rich heritage. Many truly great men and women of America, giants in the structuring of American history, were Christians of caliber and integrity who did not hesitate to express their faith. Some of their legacies are evidenced as follows:

WHEREAS, the Preamble to the Constitution of the State of Alaska begins with, "We the people of Alaska, grateful to God and to those who founded our nation and pioneered this great land"

WHEREAS, Benjamin Franklin, at the Constitutional Convention stated, "It is impossible to build an empire without our Father's aid. I believe the sacred writings which say that, Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it."

WHEREAS, George Washington enunciated, "animated alone by the pure spirit of Christianity, and conducting ourselves as the faithful subjects of our free government, we may enjoy every temporal and spiritual felicity."

WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, wrote, "Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed the conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?" WHEREAS, James Madison, father of the United States Constitution advocated "the diffusion of the light of Christianity in our nation" in his Memorial and Remonstrance.

WHEREAS, Patrick Henry quoted Proverbs 14:34 for our nation, "Righteousness alone can exalt a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people."

WHEREAS, George Mason, in his Virginia Declaration of Rights, forerunner to our United States Bill of Rights, affirmed, "That it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forebearance, love and charity towards each other."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim October 21-27, 2007, as Alaska's 9th Annual Christian Heritage Week in Alaska, and encourage all citizens to celebrate this week.

The second, bigger problem is that not all Americans are Christian:

"Those who would renegotiate the boundaries between church and state must therefore answer a difficult question: Why would we trade a system that has served us so well for one that has served others so poorly?"

Ban on Political Endorsements by Pastors Targeted

By Peter Slevin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, September 8, 2008; A03

CHICAGO -- Declaring that clergy have a constitutional right to endorse political candidates from their pulpits, the socially conservative Alliance Defense Fund is recruiting several dozen pastors to do just that on Sept. 28, in defiance of Internal Revenue Service rules.

The effort by the Arizona-based legal consortium is designed to trigger an IRS investigation that ADF lawyers would then challenge in federal court. The ultimate goal is to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out a 54-year-old ban on political endorsements by tax-exempt houses of worship.

www.washingtonpost.com

It seems to me that Palin's long-time pastor would like to see the ban lifted. After all, he told his congregation that if someone criticized president Bush and/or voted for John Kerry, that person would go to hell.

Are Evangelicals Really Sold on Palin? Time, September 6, 2008

"...her appeal to more moderate and younger Evangelicals as well as independent swing voters may be limited."

. . .

Lost in the stampede of social conservatives to embrace Palin this past week is the fact that she is culturally outside the mainstream of Evangelicalism. Over the past few years, a growing number of Evangelicals have been consciously distancing themselves from the more extreme stands of the Christian right. They live in the suburbs, hold graduate degrees, and while they might not want their children reading certain novels, would be embarrassed by attempts to ban certain books from libraries, as Palin is reported to have briefly considered while mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. They don't attend churches where speakers charge that violence against Israelis is divine punishment for the failure of Jews to accept Jesus, as happened at one of Palin's churches two weeks ago (though Palin has now issued a statement saying she does not agree with those views). And they would disagree with Palin's decision to use her line-item veto as Governor to slash funding for an Alaska shelter that serves teen mothers.

To read the rest of the article:

www.time.com

At what point will someone in the press ask Ms Palin if she does indeed speak the glossolalia?

During the debate, perhaps?

More from Time article:

That goes double for younger Evangelicals. These voters tend to be even more pro-life than their parents, but abortion isn't always a priority that moves their votes it wasn't when McCain was alone on the ticket, and there's no reason for that to change with the addition of Palin. More important, Palin has problematic stances on many of the issues that do motivate young Evangelicals. Her insistence that global warming is not man-made, for instance, is unlikely to appeal to those Evangelicals who have embraced so-called "creation care" in the past few years. This is particularly relevant to the current race, as young Evangelicals account for much of that demographic's undecided bloc. No one knows what the size of their impact may be in November because young Evangelicals are consistently underrepresented in polls of white Evangelicals. (Even a TIME poll of likely white Evangelical voters conducted last month used a sample in which just 10% of respondents were between 18 and 35. That age group made up 22% of the total electorate in 2004, and its share of the electorate is expected to increase this year.)

"That spirit of revelation also including the spirit of prophecy that God's going to tell you what is going on, and what is going to go on, and you guys are going to have that within you, and it's just going to bubble up and bubble over and it's going to pour out throughout the state of Alaska," Palin said at the time.

Margaret Poloma, at the University of Akron, has written several books on Pentecostalism and is herself a Pentacostal Christian.

Poloma has listened to the tape of the governor's Assembly of God address and says of Palin's faith: "It seems to me that she's the real McCoy."

Poloma says faith in divine revelation, prophecy and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit are hallmarks of the Pentecostal faith.

. . .

"Pray our military men and women who are striving to do what is right also for this country that our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," Palin said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."

Poloma says some people might hear that and say Palin believes this is a holy war, or that Pentecostals think this is a holy war.

"I would think it's fair to say. Yes," Poloma says.

One reason, Poloma says, is that most Pentecostals believe Islam is a false religion.

"Many times you hear it referred to as a kind of diabolical religion, and that comes from the idea of Christianity being the true religion, but also their support for Israel, because they contend that Israel [represents] God's chosen people and you dare not touch them."

She says this points to a central belief that there is a cosmic battle between the forces of good and evil. It was language Palin used when accepting the nomination on Wednesday night when she spoke of the war on terrorism[.]

www.npr.org

Wow, I missed this one (probably not news to you dieheard drudgies--Obama is the Anti-Christ:

It's not easy to make the infamous Willie Horton ad from the 1988 presidential campaign seem benign. But suggesting that Barack Obama is the Antichrist might just do it.

That's just what some outraged Christian supporters of the Democratic nominee are claiming John McCain's campaign did in an ad called "The One" that was recently released online. The Republican nominee's advisers brush off the charges, arguing that the spot was meant to be a "creative" and "humorous" way of poking fun at Obama's popularity by painting him as a self-appointed messiah. But even this innocuous interpretation of the ad which includes images of Charlton Heston as Moses and culled clips that make Obama sound truly egomaniacal taps into a conversation that has been gaining urgency on Christian radio and political blogs and in widely circulated e-mail messages that accuse Obama of being the Antichrist.

The ad was the creation of Fred Davis, one of McCain's top media gurus as well as a close friend of former Christian Coalition head Ralph Reed and the nephew of conservative Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe. It first caught the attention of Democrats familiar with the Left Behind series, a fictionalized account of the end-time that debuted in the 1990s and has sold nearly 70 million books worldwide. "The language in there is so similar to the language in the Left Behind books," says Tony Campolo, a leading progressive Evangelical speaker and author.

Left Behind authors don't think Obama is the anti-Christ although they can see why some people might think so:

John McCain's campaign ad "The One" has generated a lot of buzz regarding the "Left Behind Series." Political commentators are comparing McCain's portrayal of competitor Barack Obama with the blockbuster apocalyptic series' depiction of the antichrist. But even the series authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins don't think Obama is the antichrist. What may have been created as a farce has generated a firestorm of controversy on the internet.

LaHaye and Jenkins take a literal interpretation of prophecies found in the Book of Revelation. They believe the antichrist will surface on the world stage at some point, but neither see Obama in that role. "I've gotten a lot of questions the last few weeks asking if Obama is the antichrist," says novelist Jenkins. "I tell everyone that I don't think the antichrist will come out of politics, especially American politics."

"I can see by the language he uses why people think he could be the antichrist," adds LaHaye, "but from my reading of scripture, he doesn't meet the criteria. There is no indication in the Bible that the antichrist will be an American."

- Any of the Resident Dumbfucks of the Right

Before any of those folks suggest such a thing, they should know that my friend, a practicing (as in goes to Mass each Sunday) Catholic, voted for Hillary in the primaries.

I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and that I am redeemed through him. That is a source of strength and sustenance on a daily basis. Yeah, I know that I dont walk alone. And I know that if I can get myself out of the way, that I can maybe carry out in some small way what He intends a sense of obligation to embrace not just words but through deeds the expectations that God has for us.--

Its stated less blatantly than George W. Bushs claim that God speaks through me--, but the meaning is the same. Barack Obama has stated that he thinks its possible for him to serve as a channel for the will of God.

"I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and that I am redeemed through him."

You libs are too funny for words. Keep up the hipocracy though!

hypocrisy=hipocracy

"Not to be sarcastic here, but did you realize post #36 was quoting Obama at Saddleback?"

Honestly, no, Oohrah.
That's one appearance I managed to avoid.
I'm sick and tired of candidates talking about God.
We have Nixon and his shill Billy Graham to blame for the snowball starting down the hill in relatively recent times.
Ever since then, politicians have been stumbling over themselves to pander to religionists by loudly proclaiming their personal faith.
I don't care if it's Bush or Obama.
When politicians of whatever stripe start acting like their at a tent meeting or born-again baptismal event, I findit demeaning and pandering.

"there" = "they're"

Actually, "their" = "they're"

DOC-
I didn't think you had realized that, since I suspect you're for Obama and so your response would have been different to EL.

From your post, "Ever since then, politicians have been stumbling over themselves to pander to religionists by loudly proclaiming their personal faith." AND "When politicians of whatever stripe start acting like their at a tent meeting or born-again baptismal event, I findit demeaning and pandering."

In response to that, my first thought is that back in the "old days" before the 1960's... it was assumed that all pols were men of faith. They spoke freely about religion without it necessarily being a taboo subject.

Only since the left has sought to challenge religion and to remove it from the public square has it become more a topic of interest when selecting a candidate.

I think we'd agree that:
1. There is no, and should be no religious requirement to hold office. In other words you don't have to belong to an official church to represent the populace.
2. Whomever wins an election they realize they represent a diverse nation with any number of competing interests. As such, it's important to have advisors with varying views - this helps to provide diverse info to help make more informed decisions.
3. There is no nationally approved/state sponsored religion whereby you must pay taxes to the church or be an official church member in order to vote. Nor should there ever be such a state-run and approved church.

"God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she told members of her church.

I wouldn't presume to believe that the Iraq war is "a task from God." Many religious leaders, including the Pope (old and new) assured us it was not. How nice of you to call those of people who have more humility, but no less faith, than Palin "closet bigots."

"That spirit of revelation also including the spirit of prophecy that God's going to tell you what is going on, and what is going to go on, and you guys are going to have that within you, and it's just going to bubble up and bubble over and it's going to pour out throughout the state of Alaska," Palin said at the time.

Some Republicans may believe that Palin has come to deliver the country from liberalism. That may or may not be true. Even if McCain/Palin win in November, it doesn't mean they will govern well. If they don't, after what will then be 12 or 16 years of Republican presidencies, the country may be ready for a real change, the one most Democrats recognize is needed now. I don't think God is on the side of either Democrats or Republicans, conservatives or liberals.

"Jesus was a community organiser while Pilate was governor...."

Palin is no Pilate and Obama is no Jesus.

Despite what candidates seem to imply, Jesus did not believe government was the tool one needed to make changes. While some of the Jews of the time wanted him to lead a revolt, his comment was "My kingdom is not of this world." While Jesus was no anarchist telling his followers to obey the laws set by their governments, he focused on changing people's hearts. He demonstrated that it was best accomplished through personal interaction with others. Government is not the proper tool to do the Lord's work which is why the 1st amendment was such a good idea.
The problem with Gal's post #6 is the pastor is talking in church lingo. If you're not familiar, it does read very scary. The "war" referenced is a spiritual one for peoples hearts and minds--not a physical one like in Iraq. The comments that "you must die" are from the hyperbole where Jesus tells us to die from our current life of sin and be reborn into God--it's a mindset change, not a physical death.
All Christians definitely do not think alike. That's why some many different denominations exist. Considering they're all made of imperfect people, none of them has the exact right answer.

I'm wondering if Sarah Palin will lead us all in prayer to erase the deficit and pay for God's war in Iraq. When a politician speaks as though their thinking is based on religion I begin smelling a liar. I just don't buy the idea that Palin is really any different than most other politicians who use religion to give ordinary folks the false impression that they really are just like them.
She can lead us in prayer to pay down the deficit but it will require taxes to actually do it.

Sorry but this is just bull shit at its democratic best.

Cuts will more than take care of the problems. Try looking at how much we spend in other countries on "tourism."

What a Cope out. Jesus Christ spoke of one church (Singular)....not MANY Churches fighting over things like secular & traditional music, correct and acceptable types of Baptism, Purgatory & Limbo, Rights or Non-rights of Gays, Speaking in Tongues, all forms of dancing being lewd, blood transfusions being against GOD's will, or promoting the Republican party as the true party of GOD ... etc... etc.... etc... etc... etc...

The Jesus Christ I have come to know I believe still hangs in head in the same manor he held it when he died on the cross...that of being in extreme sorrow proclaiming... "Father forgive them for they know not what they do"... But in the end his words will ring true to all and in that glorius day of judgement when many will say to him:

"Lord Lord !!... Did we not prophecy in your name?" ...and he will say resoundingly to them.... "I never knew you"

Now that is news!!! Pray for things that will help people.

Good, I'm glad you found this. Now I can be safe that I won't have to hang out with you and jerry falwell for eternity, because you guys will be going down not up.

If there were a God, and he had any balls or integrity or concern as to the consistency of his message, lightning bolts would be hitting every motherfucker who claims their personal agenda is "God's will".

I'm praying to God that McCain loses and Palin is indicted. We'll see whose side God is really on. Oh, and also that the Red Sox beat the DEVIL Rays and get home field advantage in the ALCS. Amen.

Dear Gov. Palin -

I know you think I want that pipeline.
But I haven't actually made up my mind.
Besides, it looks like it might be hard werk.
Please stop saying you know what I want.
You don't.
~God

It's impossible to know God's mind. However, as Christians, we are taught to pray for ourselves and for others. Many times, including in the Lord's Prayer, we use verbiage that alludes to the will of God being accomplished on Earth. The problem becomes discerning the will of God. You cannot simply say that because something happens that it was "God's Will"; this is especially true in the case of natural disasters. Christians, and I'm sure other faiths, wrestle with the problem that an all-powerful benevolent being could allow horrible things to happen. As a result, the best we can do is to trust God.

they need something to connect to the "road to nowhere"

KNOWSTOOMUCH:

sometimes it is possible to know God's mind (1 Cor. 2 10-16)

Your citation disproves your point.

1 Corinthians 2:11:
For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

Yup!

Just ask Timothy Leary!

Timothy Leary's dead.

www.youtube.com

Despite what candidates seem to imply, Jesus did not believe government was the tool one needed to make changes.

Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and render unto God that which is God's. What makes Gov. Palin think the Alaska pipeline should be rendered unto God?

"What makes Gov. Palin think the Alaska pipeline should be rendered unto God?"

The fact that she is a bible-thumping bumpkin?

Timothy Leary's dead.

No, No, he's outside, looking in.

thx Zat

I can't believe it has been that long!

1969

wow!

What makes Gov. Palin think the Alaska pipeline should be rendered unto God?

She doesn't. She belives that God should render the pipeline unto Alaska.

So be careful you get the prayer right.

KNOWSTOOMUCH: I'm sorry to say, but either you're very immature or your understanding of scripture is unstable.

I quoted the full passage to avoid missing the context. You quoted one passage and disjointed it from the context.

Listen: (1) Only the Spirit of God knows the mind of God. (You stopped from here).

(2) The natural man (not born again) is clueless and cannot understand the things of the spirit.

(3). The spiritual (mature believer) person receives and discerns the things of God in the Spirit --- he does not tell God what to do, but receives from God what God is thinking.

Please avoid a one verse theology mentality. In one sitting, if its not too much for you, slowly read the passage again in full: 1 Cor 2:9-16.

One clue: God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit... (v 10).

That pipeline is not even on the drawing board yet.

www.nytimes.com

Pray on.

Sarah Palin, at the rate she's going, will be a great-great- grandmother by the time that pipeline is built.

"God hath revealed them unto us"

Sounds stuck-up to me.

And the LORD revealed unto me HIS will.
It be HIS will that the HOLY GAS be transported to HIS people.
The LORD hath decreed that this HOLY PIPELINE be sanctified and anointed unto HIM.
And the LORD spake unto HIS children that my cut shall be not less than 10% PRAISE JESUS
It having been said let no man get between the LORD and HIS money and HIS agents being like unto HIM let no man get in between me and my money so sayeth the LORD

Sarah Palin came off sounding like a complete asshole on ABC with Charles Gibson. What a phony fucking bitch.

Comparing herself to Abraham Lincoln with her position on the Iraq war.

And these nut-case Republicans want a jack-ass like this (1) heartbeat away from being President.

ROFLMFAO !!!!
