MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channels coverage of the election. That experiment appears to be over.

The success of the Fox News Channel in the past decade along with the growth of political blogs have convinced many media companies that provocative commentary attracts viewers and lures Web browsers more than straight news delivered dispassionately.

The McCain campaign has filed letters of complaint to the news division about its coverage and openly tied MSNBC to it.

Election Observer Arrested in Arizona

www.alternet.org

According to the Election Defense Alliance blog, John Brakey, one of the country's leading election activists known for bring secretive electronic voting into public view, was arrested while observing problems in local elections this week in Pima County, Arizona.

The arrest begs the question of whether the same response will be forthcoming against election observers this November. That scenario is hardly moot after the police used excessive force in St. Paul in response to protests and other First Amendment activities at the Republican National Convention.

"can't have a debate about these type of questions ~ either"

I didn't mind Matthews as much or even the rest of the group, but Olbermann was over the top... when he insulted Matthews on the air by making a hand motion meaning Matthews was running on, I figured they would pull him. There's a difference between debate and just being a dick (I Know).

And btw all this does is validate what the McCain camp was saying... They should jump on this quickly...

"They should jump on this quickly..."

lol JUMP! JUMP!

How many complaints has Obama filed against Fox News?

Would that make him look better in your eyes, Rob?

I'm just curious.

John Bachelor at KFI, the Sunday night guy, is devoting the hour to the Olbermann and Matthews "firings". Although he did say Matthews would stay in the "anchorage" through the election.

Two of Obama's biggest primary supporters breaking up?

So, so sad.

And here they had become the Abbott and Costello of political reporting.

What a shame.

Matthews is the worse moderator ever at the debate--he doesn't shut up to let the person answer the questions. He constantly interrupts.

Overbite is more obvious--he hates Hillary and it showed and in the tank for Obama and it shows.

They deserve it with all their over the top bias and in fighting and name calling.

Gregory--he at least puts on the front of being impartial. His show even allows to have a conservative POV.

David Gregory impartial? He danced with MC rove ffs.

lol

MSNBC insisted that Mr. Olbermann knew the difference between news and commentary.

HaHaaaHaaaaaaa The guys a complete loon!

When FoxNews puts O'Reilly or Hannity in the anchor chair you'll have a better point...

are they hu=man?

Brit Hume has slagged Democrats for years from an anchor chair. The difference between Fox News and MSNBC in this situation is that MSNBC cared enough about objective reporting to move Matthews and Olbermann off these events. Fox News, on the other hand, doesn't care about objectivity.

As much as I enjoy Olbermann and Matthews, I think it's a good move to put middle-of-the-road anchors on conventions, debates and the like. Let MSNBC's opinionated hosts focus on that, not trying to report the news from a live event as it happens.

well I understand that thier poll numbers of advid msnbc watchers didnt like the two together.

the poll said that all ten watchers were evenly divided between the two

and when told

matthews got that "TINGLY" sensation down his leg again and disappeared for an hour

Good. David Gregory has a much more friendly personality and is far more knowledgable about politics than either of these morons. He should have been there from the beginning.

People do not like loons like these two guys. That is why their ratings are so low. People can see that they are completely biased. That is why Oreilly does well, he has a reasonable approach to most things. Which makes sense to the folks out there. Because after all he *is* watching out for us. ;)

Brit Hume has slagged Democrats for years from an anchor chair.

Which is probably why its not the bias that got him tossed, but the fighting with others who didn't exactly agree with him on the air...

AGAIN......I really believe that we have to see the difference between the shows

hannity and rush........you know you will get the right side

cafrerty and others on cnn......you know you will get the left
and when its talking heads on the news, it should be impossible to know what side they are on

the guy on cspan is the perfect example of this..
and really ALL of the cspan reporters are that way

RCADE - One man's SLAG is another mans objectivity.

MSNBC was / and is / completely left in their coverage. Olber was in the tank for Obama, Matthews got "tiggly" for Obama. Did you EVER see a Fox person say anything even CLOSE to this for a Rep.?

You say Brit went after Dems - sure thing - but he went after Rep. too.

Where are the questions on MSNBC, CBS, NBC, NY TIMES on Obama and:
1) Rezco - did you ever see any of them ask ANY question about this? But you saw NBC go after Palin via Newt. Newt at least stood up to them
2) Al - Masour. No comments or questions ANYWHERE about this tie OR how he paid for Harvard / Columbia. They ain't cheap.
3) ACORN - Under indictment in 7 states for illegal activities
4) The Communist Party of America leaders that have key jobs in his campaign.
5) The movement of government funds to pay for the low income housing in Chicago..THAT NOBODY WAS LIVING IN

But you see questions about Palin and her: 1) Baby 2) Daughter 3) Husbands Drunk Driving (20 years ago)

Don't you think if you going ask those questions about Palin shouldn't you ask about the others from Obama? Do you think Matthews or Olberman would ask Obama those questions, or Couric, or the NY Times? But I guess being a corrupt government official is not nearly as important as having a knocked up daughter....or deciding not to kill your baby.

'tsa good thing they got rid of that Olberman - he was about one or two nights away from appearing on the air with his makeup done like this:

www.i10media.com

As much as I enjoy Olbermann and Matthews...

Matthews proved he is a hack mocking Michelle Maulkin and Zel Miller. He fawns over Bill Clinton like a school girl and is as partisan and the other idiot Olbermann. Just listen to his tone change with each guest. You never need to see a d or r on his show to know what party affiliation.

Matthews hates the Clintons. So much so that it's on my radar and I fucking hate the Clintons.

Rcade, I agree completely. I watch both Hardball and Countdown every evening and I enjoy both shows. But when it was announced that Matthews and Olbermann were going to anchor both conventions, I saw trouble brewing right away! They are both biased and neither of them has any trouble showing their true feelings. LOL! I applaud MSNBC for making this change. Both Matthews and Olbermann will still be around for the Election Night coverage, but they will be doing what they both do best, which is expressing their points of view.

I think they took a licking back in 04 going after Miller and Maulkin. Here we are today a woman and an older Senator. Maybe they are starting to care about ratings.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
HHHHH....I'm a POW, NOBODY should EVER question me!

Do so, and I'll file complaints against you. After all, I was a POW don't you know!!!

And btw all this does is validate what the McCain camp was saying... They should jump on this quickly...

It also validates what Hillary's camp has been saying.

Any news on Limbaugh?

It also validates what Hillary's camp has been saying.

Not the vast rightwing conspiracy again.

MSNBC and NBC are rumored to be offering Limbaugh 8M a year to do a 1/2 show that will be broadcast on both channels.

I would have used Laurel and Hardy myself, they appear to be closer, in actual body shape and movements!

The report should read: Two ASSHOLE libs dropped.

I like Olbermann a lot and think Matthews is so preoccupied with trying to be successful he has never been himself, much less "fair and balanced".

But their performance together during the conventions was unbearable.

I have trouble imagining that someone whose ratings were climbing like Olbermann, for being honest, tough and funny, would be fired, except for heavy interference from the White House. Still, the conventions horseshit provided a convenient cover.

I saw Doh!bermann talking sports last night, and I kept waiting for him to say what a bad game Clinton had.....

Geez Corky, still bitter?

On topic, Olbermann has been coming off more and more opinionated. So much so that it's just not fun to watch him run these election events. He should probably stick to his show. In that format he seems more factual than opinionated.

Chris should have kept his mouth shut about getting a boner when he heard Barry.

Olbermann supported Clinton, before her campaigning turned him against her. Same story for me and maybe a couple of others. The "left-wing media" crying is tiring to hear, and is softening too many from taking a hard line on Republicans' bad policies (like oil-drilling: the official energy report says it ain't going to do much for us, but the news media only cites Republican and Democrat sources, to "cover both sides"). I want hard facts and intellectual criticism from my news, goddammit.

By "hard facts" I don't mean Chris' stupid boner, btw.

it`s good their gone,they are both A-HOLES

What was the matter, didn't they lean far enough left?

I put my TV in storage about three months ago.

Tweedle Shovel and Tweedle Leg Twitch learned that you don't fuck with Brokaw, and that GE controls the strings on the nuts at NBC & MSNBC. Good doggies, here's some biscuits.

So BSNBC finally passed that kidney stone.

Two of the biggest left wing dirt bags on TV.

Hume is one of the best anchors I have ever seen. It is funny how you libs think that anyone who does not bash the republicans must be one themselves. You folk need a reality check. Olberman is nothing more than a failed sportscaster.

The only reason msnbc has done anything is because they are on the fringe of going bellyup and HAD to make a change.

want hard facts and intellectual criticism from my news, goddammit.

Then you should watch FOX.

Another shred of evidence that the sun is sinking on the great experiment of 1776.

Soon Fox will be the standard for objectivity with no one left to question the most hypocritical marketing ploy in history, the Alaska Airhead as Leader Of The Free World. herm

Why? Because free market works? Their ratings fell because they were unobjective 'anchors'. Had they been on an opionion show rather than a 'news' show, it might be different.

Why do you keep saying Palin is running for Pres? Go back to the brick Herm.

Countdown to Meltdown--

article.nationalreview.com

they were unobjective 'anchors' , its one thing to have a segment that will be more of an .. view point type.. of show, vs just presenting the information. they just need to shut msnbc down, its as worthless as abc, nbc and cbs. imo

damn I was enjoying reading some honest to God bipartisan comments here and then commonsense shows uncommonly bad taste in ridiculing mccan and then someone else says that the white house was in on the firings.
what about this reason

ratings????????
