Kilkenny describes Palin as a smart political opportunist who keeps an enemies list and is no fiscal conservative. "She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million," Kilkenny writes.

YOU side has a record of dismal failure. My suppor tof Obama has to do with his specific policy proposals, and has nothing to do with blind loyalty. My first choice did not win the primary, but on the issues, Obama offers specific plans and proposals with which I agree. You seem to be one of those types who will vote republican no matter what, and will scramble to defend his candidate AFTER the fact, no matter what.

You adolescent guffaws are not unexpected, considering your previous posts, but I have yet to read anything from you of substance with regard to a particular policy proposal from McCain or Sarah P.

I was impressed with Vic Kohring when he first went down to Juneau eight years ago. I even sent him an admiring and complimentary Christmas card one year.
I was very impressed with the handwritten notes Vic sent in reply to my messages. Occasionally, he even called me, which was very flattering. But then I had a very disheartening experience.

Late one evening Rep Kohring called to thank me for writing, and to tell me that he would keep my opinions in mind as he worked on legislation. I asked him if he was surprised by my opinion.

Silence.

Then he said, "Uh, tell me again what you wrote about." I couldn't help but think to myself what was it he was going to keep in mind when he was working on legislation when he couldn't even recall the subject I had written about?

Vic was starting to sound like a typical politician.

What a disappointment.

I started to notice that Rep. Kohring went to great lengths to acknowledge constituent mail, but did not do much else.

Vic asked how I've been; I've been disappointed.

I am now totally disillusioned with Vic Kohring.

Count me one vote for Peter Burchell.

No benefit. One of the things I've liked about this blog is the free form and the anonymity. Some handles I've used just for fun, while keeping my usual handle (it's been years since I've done that), but there were a couple of times when I changed because I had actual stalkers who liked to talk about my personal life (sex life, wife, etc) in an incredibly abusive way and I fooled myself into thinking I could change my handle and ditch them. It worked for a while, but it didn't last. Once I changed my handle because I got sucked in to the personal sniping and found myself being (almost) as nasty as those whom I sought to avoid. My most recent change, which was quite some time ago, was an effort to approach this blog in a different way. I never looked at this blog as anything but a fun way to vent, but even within that I had certain standards that others violated in a very vicious manner (personal attacks regarding family, race, sex, etc.). In short, it's not my day job, but I like the blog. You'll find many on here with a deep and abiding hatred of "me", which would be laughable if they didn't take it so seriously. Many of the virtual people who take such offense at my handles have changed names several times, though they would never admit it.

Anyway, you asked an honest question, and there's an honest rambling answer.

My take is that he was imploring his supporters (with his leadership) to take back America. Perhaps a bit of arrogance, but that's par for the course with Obama - it's seemingly all about him and his situation.

With all due respect. In Ms. Kilkenny's full statement, she mentions that "Ms. Palen" hates her. Makes you wonder if the feeling is mutual and if this entire letter is revenge against someone she is jealous of and/or hates. Ms. Palen is one of if not the highest rated governor in the country by those in her state. I believe that says more for her ability to represent the people than one woman's vindictive letter.

Back in 1996, when she first became mayor, Sarah Palin asked the city librarian if she would be all right with censoring library books should she be asked to do so.

According to news coverage at the time, the librarian said she would definitely not be all right with it. A few months later, the librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, got a letter from Palin telling her she was going to be fired. The censorship issue was not mentioned as a reason for the firing. The letter just said the new mayor felt Emmons didnt fully support her and had to go.

Emmons had been city librarian for seven years and was well liked. After a wave of public support for her, Palin relented and let Emmons keep her job.

It all happened 12 years ago and the controversy long ago disappeared into musty files. Until this week. Under intense national scrutiny, the issue has returned to dog her. It has been mentioned in news stories in Time Magazine and The New York Times and is spreading like a virus through the blogosphere.

The stories are all suggestive, but facts are hard to come by. Did Palin actually ban books at the Wasilla Public Library?

Were any books censored banned? June Pinell-Stephens, chairwoman of the Alaska Library Associations Intellectual Freedom Committee since 1984, checked her files Wednesday and came up empty-handed.

Pinell-Stephens also had no record of any phone conversations with Emmons about the issue back then. Emmons was president of the Alaska Library Association at the time.

If you read the Anchorage Daily News article, towards the bottom, you find that Palin requested the resignations not only of the librarian, but of several other township officials. Why? Because they were political appointees who openly supported her political opponent. Palin requested the resignations a few days BEFORE she assumed office, apparently for political reasons, as would be routine in ALL such situations, including in the very small town of Washington, DC. [Didnt some no-name politician fire all of the US Attorneys?] Frankly, its far more remarkable (and shows a great deal of tolerance) for Palin to have KEPT Emmons in office. And youd think people would consider the source when Emmons claims Palin wanted to ban books.--
