Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, September 04, 2008

Senator John McCain accepted the Republican presidential nomination Thursday with a pledge to move the nation beyond “partisan rancor” and narrow self-interest in a speech in which he markedly toned down the blistering attacks on Senator Barack Obama that had filled the first nights of his convention.

I expect him to provide as much substance as Sara did last night.

Which was NONE!

get yer koolaid! leftover koolaid!

Not watching. Watching FOOTBALL. Fuck McCain and that trashy white trash whore (aka the "Messah"). Fuck hugh..........

Tonight: McCain's Turn

My expectations for McCains speach are lower than for Sarah Palin. Sarah has more 'executive experience' than McCain after all...

Are you ready for some football?

P.S. MRS. Botox's dress was worth $300,000 I heard. Power to the people! Viva reform!

Obama is speaking on channel 52, so we're under a black-out.

Isn't Obama on instead?

Since I missed Obama's speech, I feel I have to miss McCain's too.

I'm sure I'll read 34-35 opinions about it in the morning.

Would someone please keep track if he actually says something of substance?

Shouldn't take you long.

Too bad gametime is 7pm. Would've made for an interesting Nielsen rating if the game was on the same time as McCain.

McBetterBringAGame has a tough act to follow.

Very appropriate use of the word 'ACT'!

His speech tonight will be right up there with "Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears." Come to think of it, he might have made that one too. Ha!

I predict McCain will espouse cooperation and have a less attacking posture. Then release his dispicible advertisments in the interim. These guys are so rovian.

Yeah, Live from the Apollo. It's billed as a Variety show. A lil sing'n, a lil danc'n.

Lee yes can't fucking wait. The Cubs are tanking and I'm reading for a real sport.

Wis. pretty funny. Not going to get a FF though, because I'm geeting a drink now!!!

That's OK. Me too. Who you pulling for in that division?

geeting=getting...Very excited!

Had to share:

Eric,

After pilates I went to the gym to ride for 55 minutes and was surrounded by idiots! Shirley was there and she thought Sarah was "one tough lady (?)".

The guy on the other side of me felt the same way.

I tried to be kind and only mention how as a mother, I felt Palin was wrong to parade her 17 year old daughter in front of the nation. It may be acceptable in trailer parks but not on national tv.

Finally they left and a guy who had knee surgery when I did sat down on a bike.

He said "what was your opinion on the speech last night" and I said "you don't really want to know".

His reply was, "she is a slut".

So, I rode the bike for 75 minutes and we talked.

Love and hugs,
Mom

She would kick Sara'a ass!

I used to live in DC. Somewhat with them. I just enjoy watching football. I have the DirectV HD package and I kick the wife and kids out of the house on Sundays. I'm a Lion's fan living in Chicago, I like Green Bay more so than the Bears. That Lovie Smith is a pussy's pussy.

You're ok in my book, Chill. (Politics aside)

Anyone else think the Sarah Palin speech isn't aging well? Hearing all her sarcastic insults over and over again on right-wing talk radio today, I gotta say my initial positive impression of the speech is turning into a more mixed one.

Political newcomers who are still introducing themselves to the public generally don't come off as that much of a wiseass.

I have three close frinds. A Lib, A conser, A indy (see pussy). We go to about 20 baseball, hockey and football games a year (one in Greenbay. We never talk Politics. Sports, beer and pussy.....

" I gotta say my initial positive impression of the speech is turning into a more mixed one."

Remember Pat Buchanan's culture war speech? Same thing.

Peace bothers. Time for the bar...

Now I know folks are nauseated just "thinking" of O'Reilly.

But he is on with his interview with Obama before the McCain speech.

I know what you mean. The Black part of me sometimes likes an Obama speech, and sometimes the Muslim part does.

Good call... except I can't go to a bar... but I can go get a 6 pack...

Later...

While we're killing time, how many Palin posts do you think this site has seen since last Friday?

I'm glad Barack Obama has such great judgement... since it turned out in the Palin debate that he doesn't have any meaningful experience to draw upon.

"sarcasm is the lowest form of wit" obviously the speech writer slept during that lecture in college.

I want some substance tonight, I want McCain to tell me what he is going to do. I do not want him to tell me that "at least we are not the uppity black guy" not once during this entire convention has anyone actually said what they are going to do to solve America's problems, NOT ONCE. Enough of the damn "he is whatever" tell me what you are going to do to fix the shitstorm of problems that this country is facing. Right f**king now. I won't hold my breath. I am expecting noun, verb, POW and by the way did I mention Obama is black.

I suspect your going to get what you ask for...

go find yer balls when you go out for that sixer son.

"I want some substance tonight, I want McCain to tell me what he is going to do."

He's going to say he wants change and his change will be to continue doing exactly what George Bush has done for 7-1/2 years.
"That, my frieds, is change you can believe in..."

This brand new team of Washington outsiders (McCain pretends well) is going to claim to be coming to town to stop the business as usual and they are being assisted by the most inside Washington crowd that used to work for Bush.
It's utter hog wash but he will attempt to sell it though as I shopped for food today I realized that it must be getting harder every day to sell the same lie with prices changing so rapidly.

#36 | Posted by Whatsleft

WL--what's wrong with you today?

Not that it matters to most of you, but McCain/Palin's first stop Friday is 20 minutes away from me Cedarburg, Wi. I'll report back on how many pissed of Mom's are there.

Newly released excerpt from McCain's speech...

"Ah, but the strawberries! That's, that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with, with geometric logic, that, that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox did exist."

Null, how many folks are going to know were that quote was from? Great movie!

since it turned out in the Palin debate that he doesn't have any meaningful experience to draw upon.

#33 | Posted by Farmer_John

it trnred out in the Palin debate? lol

A tool's tool. Nice work.

If McCain does the same thing Obama did last Thursday by *squandering* the chance and...
(1) Gets into wonkish little details
(2) Spends MOST of his time attacking Obama (like Obama attacked McCain)
(3) Fails to inspire like Obama did

..I promise to come on here and admit my disappointment.

Obama did have a better opportunity that he threw away, being the first African/American presidential candidate and giving a regular stump/attack speech, in addition to being a much better speaker than McCain yet failing to inspire. I honestly gave him a chance and got more of the same. Obama is better than the speech he gave last Thursday.

We'll see if McCain is better than his speech is tonight!

I expect him to provide as much substance as Sara did last night.Which was NONE!#1 | Posted by Manypaths at 2008-09-04 06:37 PM | Reply

He's flip-flopped on everything that once might have made him a "moderate". For example, he's now against his own immigration bill, even going so far as to say he would vote against it, and he now supports Bush's tax policies 100%.

"He's a moderate who doesn't like Bush"

And to prove that, in the last two years, he went from support in the 80-90% range to 95% support in 2007 and 100% support in 2008. In other words, as the country was awakening and moving further and further away from Bush, McCain was moving closer and closer.

And in the meantime, "the maverick" who was against torture, against tax cuts for the wealthiest, and believed the religious right was populated by "agents of intolerance"---all stances which disagreed with Bush---flip-flopped to be in line with Bush on those three positions and a lot more.

To quote a timid-looking guy in front of a green screen, "That's not change we can believe in."

Face it, Wisgod, the lunatic base has kicked the "maverick" out of McCain. Congrats, but you can't now use his former positions (which he's now against) as an argument to woo the non-Bushnuts.

ROFLMAO....the changling BETELG/BARNEY/COOPER/et al is talking about changing/flip-flopping....way too funny.

Betleg, if you're going to believe everything that either candidate is saying right now, regardless of Party, you are the closest dog to the sled. It's politics. McCain is a Moderate.

Hey WisGod, what was that other name BETELG/BARNEY/
COOPER/ET AL was using for awhile? The handle he was using when we kept making Nazi loving statements as a spoof and signing his then current handle to them. He started to cry about it even though it was only a spoof on him.

Badweek was one.

Wisgod-
You just said that McCain doesn't really believe what he is saying, but is doing it to appease the base. You basically said that McCain is still really for his immigration bill, but only says that he is against it; that McCain would rescind Bush's tax cuts and only pretends that he is now for them...

Does this argument of McCain the "moderate" and conservative poser extend to nominees to the Supreme Court?

Boyd was the first I remember

Oil production in Iraq is increasing!

Woo Hoo!

The surge has worked?

Above all others AQ knows it has worked?

Coupla things here.

First, the AQ presence in Iraq was always over-stated in a blatent attempt to continue making the connection between Iraq and 9/11 in the mind of the average moron.

Second, they wore out their own welcome and were ejected by the Iraqis not by the surge.

Third, the surge was an artificial construct of overlapping overly extended tours and the cost in terms of mental health of the troops has been staggering.

Fourth, the political goals that Limpy Grayham says have been achieved are not done deals as the Iraqi civil war bides it's time and waits fer the endgame.

Finally, the idea that America is gonna somehow inject democracy into the region like a booster shot of vitamin D or sommat is patently absurd.

Listen to this pusstard talkin' now.

"We're gonna WIN this war"

First off. militarily this wasn't a war.

This was a total shitkicking on a practically defenseless nation.

Taking pride in that is kinda like Mike Tyson taking pride in beating up a five year old.

Now, it's turned into a commited long term insurgency versus an unjust occupation.

When are the Rtards gonna figure out that the longer America is mired down in the debt and death in Iraq the weaker America becomes both economically and militarily?

Yeah, and I love how you appreciated my honest response regarding McCain, but turned into an instant asshole when the same feelings were applied to your Messiah.

McCain -- tax cuts for the rich, war, more tax cuts, war, more war, more tax cuts for the rich....

McCain will address NONE of the problems tonight that Americans care about. He will not talk about the economy, the millions of jobs being outsourced, the terrible lack of health insurance by almost 50 million Americans, pension plans now destroyed, the crappy food and drug inspections now cut to the bone by Bush and letting in food that has sicked tens of thousands of Americans. NOPE. None of that will be talked about tonight but war, and more tax cuts.

Americans to McCain: How will you pay for your wars if you cut taxes for the rich?

McCain to Americans -- I'll just slash to the bone every single government program ever put in place to help American citizens. I'll privatize (read: get rid of) Social Security, Medicare, continue to slash the budget for the FDA food and safety inspectors, any get rid of every benefit you ever had, there will be no health plans, I'll veto any military pay raises, you name it. I'll take that money to pay for my wars and my tax cuts for the rich and f--k you, America. I've got mine.

Great bio on Cindy McCain--

You haven't even looked at either Obama's or McCain's actual proposals, and yet you're going to vote on what you "feel" they would do based on how you "feel" they come across to you on an emotional level on TV, whether or not what they say in these emotional appeals has the slightest resemblance to facts or reality.

Wonderful.

Don't mind me -- I'm on a roll.

Does alzheimers run in the family?

Provide Social programms without first weeding out illegal aliens, penelize both my wife's and my businesses with additional taxes, and not protect the Country I love.

This sounds interesting, so I'm going to jump in here if you don't mind. It's gonna be long.

FIRST: The illegal aliens aren't going anywhere. As much as I would LOVE to round up 20 million illegals that are driving down wages for everyone, they will never be deported. Half of them already have kids who like it or not, are American citizens. You can't deport Americans.

There's a whole gaggle of illegals two houses down from me. They rent the house and about 12 of them live there. I'm positive they're illegal. The men are all day laborers, each has a white van. The women either raise the kids or I think go out as maids. But they have kids. There's about 6 between the families.
Now the parents barely speak english. I speak spanish better than they speek english, and all I know is 'Donde esta la cervesa.' But the kids, oldest are 6-7, they're American, and they speak english. Spanish too of course, but english. And they come talk to me when I walk by with our Chihuahua. They love the perito. They go to the school that my tax dollars pay for, but they're learning english and acclimating. My father in law is Mexican ethnically. Born in Chicago, you'd think he was Italian if you spoke to him, completely acclimated, no accent at all - whitebread America.

You can't move that family. You can't, not now. It's an American family now. You have to accept the fact that corporate greed kept them their for they're low wages, and openly exploited them. They work for peanuts and get shit on so that fat white guys could get richer. And that's the truth.

SECOND: You must accept that you're going to pay anyway. If businesses are going to continue to exploit them and not pay a living wage, then they have to support their workers through higher taxes.

If you hire a day laborrer to save $10 an hour, all you did was postpone when you have to pay the rest. If that worker gets hurt, he goes to the emergency room, and you pay for it. If he gets sick, he goes to the emergency room, and you pay.
If he can't get well and can't work, then American children become homeless. Unless you're willing to watch them starve to death and die on the street, someone has to feed them and house them and nurse the father back to health so he can work again. That's the only way you keep America from becomming a 3rd world shithole.

So I'm sorry that you don't want to pay higher taxes, but I don't want to live in a shithole. I don't like mowing my lawn and painting the shutters either, but if I didn't my house would look like a shithole, and I don't want to live like that, and it's not fair to my neighbors.

If the people of this nation insist on keeping an underclass of illegals in this country for their cheap labor, then we have to pay for their upkeep. You do have to feed the peasants. You do realize that, correct?

You're not being penalized with higher taxes. You're paying the wages that you thought you could get away with not paying. But it's caught up to you.

The grass is about a foot high. Time to mow the lawn or live in a shithole.
I'm going out to mow the lawn.

Fascinating that they managed to get the football game done, just in time for the speech.

Wisgod-

You made it clear in this and other posts that your vote was dependent on your "feelings", and was not informed by anything other than spin.

For instance, you claimed that Obama would raise taxes on small business. There is nothing behind that claim, or in Obama's policy proposals, though the McCain has claimed it is true and you believed it, again based on your "feelings".

You told me long ago. Maybe not under your current name, but you catch my drift. Sorry Null.

From the standpoint of evangelical activism, Sarah Palin represents--or seemed to--the the next step in a rich tradition of female leadership, beginning with Anita Bryant in the 1970s and extending to Phyllis Schafly, Beverly LaHaye, and Roberta Combs, to name a few. Like the women volunteers who have kept Protestant churches going for a century and a half, activist women have been the crucial cogs in the GOP's evangelical machine. When push comes to shove, even a maverick among men like John McCain knows he can't do without them. Yes, Dear.

I catch your drift. You are frequently wrong because you operate on your "feelings", and harbor a racial "feeling" about Obama and his supporters. Not that it matters except to reveal your blunder, but I'm mighty white, it's just that I've actually taken the time to read the policy proposals from each candidate and find McCain lacking and seriously out of touch. I hear there's enough oil in the backyards of McCain's known houses to solve all our energy problems.

Yeah...America is in the pits with this party in control.

Let the republicans take over for some CHANGE!

LOL

I've heard a proposal to raise the cap on taxable income from where it is now

That would be a tax increase on more than 5% of Americans.

He is talking like he is an old man pretending to be young, pretending to have enthusiasm and energy. It's a mistake. He can't pull it off. He should have gone for gravitas and a steady, statesman-like tone.

"But Americans know better than that."

He wants to create a giant goverment bureaucracy... there are going to be a lot of doctors offices that tell this huge gov't program to go fuck itself. So yes, this giant government office will tell people in it who they can see, because without question some people will want to see doctors who don't accept it... then the gov't will say "No. Pick from this list of doctors."

Just the accounting team, miniman.

I've heard a proposal to raise the cap on taxable income from where it is now
That would be a tax increase on more than 5% of Americans.

So? My salary hasn't hit the social security cutoff, so I pay social security taxes on 100% of my salary. But if I got a massive raise, I could afford to keep paying at the same rate. If you make more money, you don't need the lower rate.

Yes, you'd LIKE the lower rate, but you don't NEED it, not when we have massive debt to pay off.

I'd like McCain to promise that he'd balance the budget FIRST, then cut taxes. But he won't do that.

How much makeup do you suppose he's wearing?

We need change!

Mr. I voted with bush 95% of the time in 2007, and 100% of the time in 2008.

More Drilling?

Americans know that increased offshore drilling will not decrease oil significantly nor have any appreciable impact on the grim underlying realities of the world energy supplies and systems post peak oil prooduction.

More Nuclear Plants?

Okay, since being a POW is apparently now a formal requirement for President, and Obama was 14 in 1975, was he supposed to go start his own war or something, so he could get captured and held prisoner for 5 years, to get that pre-requisite out of the way?

That's why the crowd is going nuts right now... the man is an inspiration.

If McCain does the same thing Obama did last Thursday by *squandering* the chance and...(1) Gets into wonkish little details(2) Spends MOST of his time attacking Obama (like Obama attacked McCain)(3) Fails to inspire like Obama did..I promise to come on here and admit my disappointment. We'll see if McCain is better than his speech is tonight!#44 | Posted by kirk at 2008-09-04 07:49 PM | Reply

Agreed... if he had gone with typical White guy, the race would be over. Palin may prove to be a bad choice... we'll have to see how she works in the debate, but for the moment she's keeping the race a dead heat.

Not to be snarky, but I have usually fond that the best stories are told by those who are the most reluctant to tell them.

The end of that speech was fantastic... the beginning... meh.

PBS has done the best analysis of both conventions in my opinion.

It looks like palin has to lead mccain around.

And why would he think the VP is going to change Washington.

Failure of a night for McCain...

I'll bet Dethspud isn't even voting for him!

AU,

the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax (taxable maximum) will increase to $102,000 from $97,500. Of the estimated 164 million workers who will pay Social Security taxes in 2008, nearly 12 million will pay higher taxes as a result of the increase in the taxable maximum.

Well...jeez, rob...

McCain won YOU over?

No way! We're all so fucking shocked,.

Rob,

I have seen Band of Brothers more than once. One of my best friends has it and plays it every June. He is a history buff with a special interest in war stories. I helped him transcribe a batch of civil war letters another friend had in her family. My friend wrote a paper about it. Good stuff. I cried many times when we were working with the letters. When the kid and his brother, both Union soldiers, died, it broke my heart.

I think the best part of this Convention is that Barack Obama finally had to admit the Surge succeeded... that's got to suck for you guys... do you have your new talking points yet?

"the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax (taxable maximum) will increase to $102,000 from $97,500."

Nice try, again.

It's not "stories", Rob, it's the SAME story, and while it deserves repesct, it's simply not a sufficient qualification for the presidency, and by dwelling on this and neglecting specifics about policy, it makes him seem like grandpa.

MUCH LESS policy wonkishness

Obama got a little too professorial in his speech.

No doubt in response to the right wing "Empty suit" smears.

Yer guy sed NOTHING.

Generalities, vague terms, promising rainbows and a pony in every garage.

He FAILed to address almost everything of substance.

That wasn't a speech it was a cheesy ad.

McCain has the stage presence of a brick.

Lucky GOPhers are more well trained to clap on cue than a studio audience in Burbank.

Wow, just wow.

And Spud thought Hillary was playing to the LCD crowd.

Apparently is smaller number in GOPherland.

Sad is that.

Luckily there's a real choice fer a change.

Much of what he said near the end about government responsibility in education and policing it's own is why REAL Republicans never liked him.

Too bad he had to reverse every independent position he ever held to get the nomination, including giving the far right he had always despised a VP of their own.

The funny part is, the GOP still doesn't trust him, even though I think they feel much better now.

Republican populism being an oxymoron and all.

See how silly it sounds?

I didn't hear the words "George Bush" once the last two nights.

Oh, but you can be guaranteed to. Bank on it.

McCain has been in lockstep with him for 8 years, the GOP had total control and ran up the federal budget 40%, got us in a war, etc.

The truth is much different that what we've heard the last 3 nights.

They can run but they can't hide from the reality that a man who's been with Bush like a fly on shit for 8 years can't escape that fact. America won't forget.

God, guns, and country just won't cut it this time.

Danforth,

WTF is AU talking about.....

the only ones bringing it up as a qualification for the presidency are the leftists.

Yes he talks about it... its a major part of his life. 5 years of torture, when he could have skipped 4 of them... they're not just going to gloss over that. But McCain has never, and will never say, "Elect me, I was a POW."

And clearly Alex, we've seen that in your post history... you're clearly an independent.

I think the best part of this Convention is that Barack Obama finally had to admit the Surge succeeded... that's got to suck for you guys... do you have your new talking points yet?

This guy doesn't:

ABC News' Brian Wheeler Reports: On the day of the Democrats first rumble in South Carolina and a critical vote demanding the President begin withdrawing troops from Iraq, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., said Thursday that the troop surge plan in Iraq has failed.

"The surge is not succeeding, and the president refuses to see that," Biden declared to reporters on a conference call.

Don't count on it.

No, but neither would they applaud McCain for milking that experience for political purposes.

I have a quick question. Why did the Right Wingers slam John Kerry for the times He mentioned His service in Vietnam but Hail John McCain's service and His POW status in Vietnam. Especially when they Lambasted and made fun of John Kerry's purple hearts??(Purple Heart Bandages at the RNC 2004 convention anyone??) It seems to me You on the right have lost all rights to use Military Service as a qualifier for ANY office in the United States after the shitfest You pulled towards John Kerry , Max Clelland etc etc etc. Now You want to hail John McCain's POW status which He milks for all it is worth?? Of course, they like torture there too...so take his opinion with a grain of salt. Or a penicillin shot.

Anyone stupid enuff to buy into the GOPhers as the party of change, reform, and fiscal sanity by this point are obviously beyond redemption.

Simply Not Paying Attention.

McCain the unfrozen cave senator the nominee. I just hope he lives long enough to lose.

So baghdad bob is going to be another figure head?

Hail to queen palin!

Time to start talking about the American Taliban then. McCain once said the GOP must be taken back from then, and now it hands the party over to them on a silver platter.

MUCH MORE inspirational than Obama (not saying much).FAR FEWER attacks on the opponent than Obama (only 2 specific mentions of Obama I think, less than a dozen general mentions of "my opponent").MUCH LESS policy wonkishness.MUCH LESS douchie-ness than Obama.Seriously? You actually believe that? Honstly, sincerely believe that?Wow, okay.#433 | Posted by Norm_ at 2008-09-04 11:15 PM | Reply

Norm,

Call me out on ONE of them.

1-Obama attacked more.
2-Obama said more specific policy details.
3-Obama had the chance to KILL with the 45th anniversary of the "I Have a Dream" speech, but was far less than inspiration (unless you're a desperate Democrat who wanted blood).

Obama could've really inspired and been "above it all" for his Greek column stadium speech. When's the last time somebody had THAT opportunity? And Obama was petty.

ANd they would applaud you mocking a POW?

McCain mocks himself. It's not heroic if you brag about it. And yes he brags about it if he uses it as a qualification.
The founding fathers never intended us to be ruled by Knights. They never intended us to be ruled by the military. Washington almost refused to serve for that very reason.

Between the current cap and $250,000 net income there will be no additional SS taxes.

He will freeze the current cap of $102K and then reimpose this on incomes over $250K?

Never pass. His own party will vote against it.

Hey Larry!

They were wrong on that band aid stunt--totally classless.

They pulled them the second night and rightly so.

People who serve deserve our respect, gratitude and Thanks--everyone of them.

Why did the Right Wingers slam John Kerry for the times He mentioned His service in Vietnam but Hail John McCain's service and His POW status in Vietnam.

John Kerry went up to the podium at the Democratic Convention in 2004, saluted the cameras and said, "I'm John Kerry and I'm reporting for duty."

John Kerry made his vietnam service the ONLY reason to vote for him. John Kerry actually did what the Left accuses McCain of today.

If he's only offering his military service as a reason to vote for him and never his senate record, then you have to expect people would attack him for it.

For the record, I never have. I never served, I'm not going to attack a man's service. I didn't vote for him cuz I thought he was a tool.

The crowd were instructed to shout USA USA USA if anyone tried to protest?

But the shouters wouldn't shut it when McCain told them to?

Ha! Spud wondered wot THAT was all about.

GOP- Where the Mob Rules.

Be Well.

I just find it funny when some of the sites hardest libs pull the "i'm an independent" out of their asses...

LOL... who do you think is liberal here? Let me tell you there are very few. There are a couple of left leaning dems but very few true liberals.

I don't know if a real liberal can vote for Obama.

Do I hear them playing journey in the background?

And he hates war--

Should have converted some of the folks here on the DR--;o)

#467 | Posted by MURPHY

He hates war? Damn murph ... your ability at persuasive argument has almost won me over.

I'll have to rethink my support of Obama now. I know Obama doesn't SUPPORT the Iraq war, but does he HATE it?? Or is the Iraq war one of th "good" wars. I mean, Sarah P says it's a mission from God. Hmmmm .... tough call.

Anyone notice the song playing while McCain etal were on stage after the speech? It was Barracuda by Heart. Did the people who selected that song actually listen to the lyrics? The Republicans did the same thing in 2000 with the song Won't Get Fooled Again by the Who. The last lines of which are, " Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"

There are a couple of left leaning dems but very few true liberals.

A couple?

McCain kept saying, "I work for you." Every American needs to ask themselves: Does he mean me and people like me? Or just for people like him, the Republican party, Christian conservatives, etc.?

I'm this sites hardest lib?

I don't like abortion at all, and never paid for one. I just dislike the state deciding who lives and who dies more, which is why I'm against the death penalty.

The debt needs to be paid down...I hate spending money we don;t have which is why I DON'T EVEN OWN A CREDIT CARD.
I believe in capitalism, but it needs some govt oversight to stop monopolies and cronyism.
I'm a deist who has no problem with religious folk, just organized religion mixing with politics.

If I'm one of the "hardest libs" rcade is in trouble.

The same thing John McaCain has done with this speach but You won't vsay va God damnjed thing about it Rob Because You are a fucking hack. He has effectively p[issed upon anyone who has ever been a POW by using it as a crutch for Political Gain. Especially when He supported the same tactics done to Him by His own Country IE Torture. John McCain is a FRAUD.

Larry

Want to know why you think I'm so far to the left, rob?

Because the right wing extremists like you have gone so far off the edge of sanity, that left of center seems like socialism to you morons. Anti-torture has become anti-american to you whackaloons.

PS- If you ever met a real socialist your head would explode.

I'm this sites hardest lib?

No, we've already established, you're a die hard independent (who is on the left of every issue here, but ignore that so it makes sense)...

And I said, some of this sites hardest libs... not you are this sites hardest lib...

Stop being so self centered.

Why did the Right Wingers slam John Kerry for the times He mentioned His service in Vietnam but Hail John McCain's service and His POW status in Vietnam. Especially when they Lambasted and made fun of John Kerry's purple hearts?

LARRY MOHR

Welcome Larry. Good to see you.

As to your comment it's called a 'double standard'.

The GOP made the 2004 election ALL about the war, so why was it wrong for Kerry to mention his service? That's my question to the right wingers.

Hey Murphy I wouldn'tr have been here tonight had it not been for My sore legs. Good to see You. Hope all is well with You and Yours.

Larry

ROB- A REAL republican wouldn't sit on here and argue that the rights they're giving up to the govt since 9-11 were "little" you pants pisser.

The same thing John McaCain has done with this speach but You won't vsay va God damnjed thing about it Rob Because You are a fucking hack

John McCain saluted the camera and said, "I'm John McCain and I'm reporting for duty?"

No... they told his life story... Obama did the same thing in his speech. Sorry McCain was a soldier and Obama was not.

Being a POW is not a qualification for POTUS--that is your interpretation. You think because it is part of his history and talks about --that he is somehow bragging and I guess showing up your Obama.

But Being a POW and what he endured and how he came out on the other side--shows his character--his core values and why he loves this country.

He has not shared that with the public before.

The end of the speech when he talked about being broken.

He has had a remarkable life and he loves this country. No doubt about it.

Now continue on with your bashing--

Let me tell you there are very few. There are a couple of left leaning dems but very few true liberals.

Nope, there aren't very many dems at this site, mostly indy's. Most of the Dems are at Huffpo & KOS. I don't even think RCade hangs out at this site much, eh Rogers?

Yeah... most are very mainstream dem's.

makes me sick too.

That's why when I hear "change we can believe in", I think yeah, I'm going to wear grey socks today instead of black.

In all actuality, McCain's opposition to health and education benefits for Iraq vets was a slap in the face to their service.

At least get your attacks right big guy... I said on one thread that it was a "minor" freedom we were talking about... not "little"

And in all honesty, the only people who have given up any rights are the people who were up to some shit.

You know what Kirk, for me it just comes down to faith. I found Obama truly inspiring, because I believe him.

I don't believe McCain. When he says he's going to be a maveric and veto the pork and all that, I don't believe him. I just don't believe that a Republican party that supported these last 8 years of Bush will change.

If McCain wins, you'll all wipe your brow and go "Whew, a close one" and go back to fucking over the middle class.

Wrong. It just seems that way to you, because of how far to the right you are.

And frankly, there are times when spud and nulli go too far left for my tastes. It's just that the egregious stupidity of the rightwingers here is so great, I have to address it more often. Most of you here never heard my attacks on bill clinton when he was prez. And how often do I have to calls dems spineless pussies before you think I'm not a dem?

As far left as some may go, they don't call Obama a nigger or a negro. I'm not even obama's biggest fan. Frankly, after 8 years of W I'm so cynical of politicians that I wouldn't kiss Obama's ass like tonyroma if you paid me.

Face it. The worst lefties can't even hold a candle to the evil and stupidity of the far right. Don't like it? Clean up your acts, children.

One more thing...

Hey RCade, can we make it a rule that from now on if someone says they are leaving you delete their account?

Getting tired of the, "Please beg me to stay," blogs...

I hate Bush. You'd expect me to visit FreeRepublic.com? Ha!! I signed up and got to post exactly ONCE! That comment wasn't in any way anti-Bush, but questioned the allegience of the Sunni. So much for 'free speech'.

I read a couple KOS threads a day. That does not make me a 'liberal'. In fact, I'm quite the moderate, but as much as I love this country I want to do everything I can to wrestle it from the grip of the lunatic right wing NeoCons who've left a wide swath of destruction from our economy all the way to Baghdad.

We really need to add "authoritarian- libertarian" to our conception of political leanings. For instance, anyone who speaks of "minor freedoms" would go to the authoritarian side, etc.

Agree 100%. After economics, this is the second main reason I can't stand Republicans anymore. I'm way to the libertarian side - the Patriot Act disgusts me, I view it as cowardly, trading freedom for the illusion of security.

Look at the way the police have been acting in Minneapolis this week. They're basically arresting people for thought crimes.

I seem to remember reading about the patriots of a few hundred years ago fighting and dying for the "minor freedoms" Rob views with suspicion (after all, if you aren't doing anything wrong -or aren't anyone wrong -, then what do you have to worry about?).

UPSETCITIZEN

Most TV viewers are in bed by now or watching something else in western timezones.

This convention will be a distant memory by the end of next week.

The media will have the time to focus on the candidates, explore their positions and proposals, expose the double talk, and investigate the reckless choice McCain made for VP.

I know I'm an Obama supporter this year, but as someone who's watched a lot of conventions in my life, all the GOP speeches were lacking in substance, playing on the flag, 'lower taxes' (Palin raised them in Alaska), and the usual stuff. Might as well have been 2000 or 2004.

THIS election people are engaged. The pundits are in the buzz of the crowds right now. In the coming days they'll hopefully report on the candidates statements vs fact, and their positions in light of the massive problems the Bush administration has gotten us in.

We don't have THAT short of memories to let 3 days wipe our memories of the last 8 years.

Polls will bounce around nationally, but Obama has big ground game, and most importantly, his words match his past and his future proposals. Swing voters know what's up. I highly doubt America will vote for another 4 years of the same.

and I am certainly not surprised that most of you are saying what you are saying and I am not surprised that leftists motherfuckers who probably stink and need a bath tried to pull shit ,.

"Ah yes... George Washington fought for our library privacy rights..."

He fought for a legal basis for the acquisition of private records (gov't seizures) that required a warrant. It's called the Fourth Amendment, and is an extension of protection for the First Amendment, if you should be troubled to look either up. And as I recall, in neither case was the clause "unless I (the king) thinks they're up to somethin'" attached.

Hey tell Me something. What up with the fucking Israeli Flag on the VP Nominee pick Palin?? I could see not wearing ANY lapel pin. I could see wearing an American Flag pin. But to wear an Israeli Flag pin while trying to win the Vice Presidency of the United States to me mocks the very meaning on what Patriotism standds for and means. What up with Dat You pro John McCainites?? Explain THAT one to Me. Oh and don't try and pass the pin off as something other than the Israeli Flag because I KNOW BETTER.

Larry

But at the very least you should understand that there is a very precise word to describe your political position.

And that word... is Badass

BTW the top two threads on the backpage are stories about Biden's kids, but RCade doesn't have the balls to move them to the front page... If he can't call a woman a whore or a shitty mother by doing so they stay on the back page.

Wrong.

And you lied about Rogers calling palin a whore again. Baiting boyd?

You're a liar, a coward, and a moron. Good day to you, sir.

and I have a deletion program that wipes data to NSA standards.

that's incorrect... sorry... NSA standards are only 7 passes... this program does something called the Guttman standard as its top level which is 35 passes... I keep it on NSA cuz I'm not really doing anything that sensitive.

Bring it on Uncle Sam...

ff nulli.

Wrong.

No... not really... today in our system of politics, independents and moderates are talked about as if they are one.

I see what you are saying that its possible to be unaffiliated with a party but be liberal or conservative, but that's not how its seen in today's system.

If you hear on TV, "Barack Obama is going after the undecided independent voters," they're not talking about die hard conservatives that aren't republicans. They're talking about people who aren't affilitated with either party because they agree with both sides on certain issues and don't want to sign up for either... AKA moderates.

And you lied about Rogers calling palin a whore again.

the tone and purpose of the many Palin threads is clear whether you want to admit it or not... the purpose was to call Palin a whore and a shitty mother without having to come right out and say so...

If the threads on Biden's kids were on the front page, I'd have no argument... but if Bristol Palin is a story then Biden's rich lobbyist kid or his other kid having a drug record is a story too...

Unless of course the point of those stories were to attack Palin as a mother... which it was.

I've never shown disrespect to Max Cleland that I'm aware of.

No, but we HAVE all seen a lot of it anyway.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever get back to Joe with an example of him "whining" outside of that Biden's Son thread? He said if you could he would take 2 weeks off...

Its not possible you just rely on the "whiner" crutch whenever you have nothing else to offer... is it?

BTW here's your crying baby link

www.webdelsol.com

I thought maybe something was wrong with your browser or favorites folder and you couldn't get to it...

"Just out of curiosity, did you ever get back to Joe with an example of him "whining" outside of that Biden's Son thread?"

I appreciate Joe admitting that he was whining on that thread. But I'll concede, he's nowhere close to you, tear duct.

Okay enough of toolbag and his crutch...

I didn't know Palin's nickname in highschool was "Barracuda." Couldn't figure out why they were playing that stupid song at the end of the convention...

"BTW here's your crying baby link"

Awww, poor widdle wobbie. You sure are crying about being described as crying.

I didn't know Palin's nickname in highschool was "Barracuda." Couldn't figure out why they were playing that stupid song at the end of the convention...

Well, there you have it folks, someone who really pays attention to those who the support and vote for.

I wonder if he know how old his other candidate is.

Well, there you have it folks, someone who really pays attention to those who the support and vote for.

I could honestly give a shit what anyone's highschool nickname was... I probably heard it before and forgot it...

If nicknames are important to you, I'm guessing you work in a walmart loading dock.

New Drinking game... everytime Nulli says someone is crying its a swig of beer, everytime he says they are whining its a shot of your choice...

(And Nulli, let me post your reply for you:

Everytime Wobbie cries its a swig of beer and everytime wobbles whines its a shot of your choice

Of course if you're playing at home, that's one swig and one shot everyone...

Have a great night ballbags...

I didn't say he was, but you're obviously trying to assign that position to someone.

Straw men...the rights favorite tool.

"God, guns, and country just won't cut it this time"
What God is that? The God you can buy one e-bay shaped like a cheez-it? I prefer my God to be there when I need him but to leave me the fuck alone when I don't. Guns-- Got plenty of 'em. To be blunt, the more guns I have around me, the closer I am to God. Country: Just how does one show loyalty to one's country? Nowadays, I frequently drive around it, fly above it, look & marvel at it, but is this country what we see when we wake up shadow-faced in the morning to our piping morning chug-a-lug and favorite online newssource? Is this country what we see when we go down to the local budget-mart to buy orinetalized rations of cheap plastic goods? God, Guns, and Country-- Knees glued to the ground in reverence, hand glued to the gun in readiness, eyes glued to the computer monitor in reminder. The 21st century definition of patriotism.

I had walked 2 score miles of barbed wire on nothing but a standard MRE with a stuffed mannequin of Bob McNamara belted to my scrawny back. My thoughts were of pussy and of home. At what point did I prove my worth to my country? I once pleasantly sunned myself just off the coast of Spain. It was a glorious assignment, like out of a book. The Spanish whores never had the chance to be graced with our savage presence, however. Two weeks later we asked our souls to be forgiven at a Greek orthodox church in Juniyah after doing our "God given" duties. I prayed for the grace of God to bless us and to help us punish our enemies to the fullest extent. At what point did I prove my worth to my country? I tasted bilous hatred in my throat upon arrival in SomewhereIforget, NC, a state that I had come to hate (and still do). Media throngs greeted us warmly, but something was not quite right-- I felt for the first time disgust for my fellow Americans. Disgust that they couldn't see what I saw, though in reality, I saw NOTHING up to that point. I was only a kid who thought he was pretty tough, HA! Months later, were already in the know concerning where we would go next. We would go back, but other plans kept us from returning to "back". Just like the year prior, we were diverted for breaking events, this time in the lovely Caribbean, which was almost as lovely as the Eastern Mediterranean, or Gibraltar at sunset. The late-October morning with its black sky and near hurricane winds, the news came in about our "replacements" in Lebanon, the dear 24th, dying wholesale beneath crumbling cement and twisted iron, and that was the day we also knew what we would be facing in the coming days. The hatred I held in my heart, the seething revenge that pulled itself from my mind down into my red clenched hands-- that feeling was only as intense compared to the love I had for the place I was there for. I learned that in order to truly love, you must be prepared to truly hate. At what point did I prove my worth to my country? Now we were onthe northern side of the island, but I always felt I was facing backwards towards the sea, which blended with the sky. Somewhere north-- Antigua. You could see a warm red glow lightening the sky from the east, and the clouds overhead were banded like stripes on the flag. To the west were several large guns that were trying to pull down the helos. We dug in and we waited like baby rabbits-- constantly alert, eyes twitching to that western hill and back, salt stinging eyelids unmoved, your age increasing by the minute, or perhaps by the second. You lost five years by taking each breath. Hairs literally whitened in the warm morning wind. It was a feeling that has no comparison nor will. At that moment I forgot about my country, and only focused on that future point in time when the large guns would cease to make noise and we would be called on to stand and proceed southward. My stomache quivered for an instant, and vomit quickly made its way up to the back of my throat, stopped, announced its burning presence, and then back down again. I stared at sand crystals like they were tiny shining moments of someone's life and I heard myself make a soothing sound like a small child does when he's eating some candy-- a gentle "hmmmm". I heard this and then i knew it was gonna be alright, because we all died several times that day, and the whole world went along with us. And at that distinct point did I prove my worth to my country.

The End :-)

McCain endorses community organizing...

"ABC News' Deputy Political Director Karen Travers points out that despite all the "community organizer"-bashing at this convention, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., seems to like the notion, at least based on this passage:

If you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you're disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist in our Armed Forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed. Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier. Because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself.

If a community organizer isn't someone "defend(ing) the rights of the oppressed," or getting involved to correct the mistakes of government, what is it?"

Danforth, WTF is AU talking about.....

The proposed SS increase doesn't kick in until after $250,000 net income.

Easy. The proposed SS increase doesn't kick in until after $250,000 net income.

It wasn't Palin. It wasn't Obama. It wasn't Rudy. The speech by Republican presidential nominee John McCain seemed too long, too serious, and too strained Thursday night. His big night was not helped early on when he was interrupted briefly three times by solitary hecklers. They seemed to take him off his stride and emotionally cooled what should have been a crowd highpoint ending the St. Paul convention.

Three times, the crowd broke into chants of "USA, USA, USA" to drown them out as they were escorted from the arena.

The crowd's interruptions seemed to take away McCain's timing and he started making reading mistakes not seen the night before when vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin spoke. Perhaps he was distracted about the possibility of additional interruptions.

Change too

Where there were generous cheers, applause and grins during the first half of his speech, his second half turned to more somber topics of war even though he promised change. The maverick senator promised to fix what had gone wrong in Washington, saying both parties had not changed Washington but let it change them.

The candidate pressed on with a speech that a Fox commentator later said sounded more like a "State of the Union address". Too many times, the audience didn't quite know when to applaud except when he paused and smiled, asking for it. The connection was broken and his address became mechanical.

By contrast to Sarah Palin's Wednesday night rouser, Senator McCain's was a sleeper. And then more so when he repeating his now-familiar and grim POW experiences after being shot down over Vietnam. He said it was to demonstrate that he would fight for America.

"Fight for our country, stand up, stand up, stand up and fight," he chanted at the end, trying too late to salvage his speech to a positive ending. Obediently, the delegates stood up, applauded and cheered but they were not fired up like they were the night before.

Despite the visuals of television smiles and rousing country music after his speech, and the balloon drop, this blogger concludes that this election is Obama's to lose and it's not likely McCain will generate enough excitement to win it away. The fireworks were projected on the set's backdrop--certainly not from his speech.

The commentators post-speech autopsy seemed overly generous to him. Yet it was all on delegates' faces, and even on McCain's as he and his wife stood heroically waving at the crowd. He looked relieved it was over. Maybe Sarah Palin was just too hard an act to follow.

"the tone and purpose of the many Palin threads is clear whether you want to admit it or not... the purpose was to call Palin a whore and a shitty mother without having to come right out and say so..."

Meaning you were the only one to originally use the word whore.

Tonight proved what we already knew. Republicans are greedy bastards that must be stopped.

www.huffingtonpost.com

Palin is certainly not a whore, but she does have shitty mother tendencies.

What kind of egotistical sire would psychologically abuse her kids for life like she does.

Seriously, her kids are named: "Track" "Bristol" "Trig" "Piper" and "Willow"?????

If she hasn't gotten the shot or hot flashes, look out for Tic, Tack, Toe, Darlington, Fontana, Tire, Valve Stem, Algebra, Derivative, or Saxophonist.

God only knows whe she is likely to (re)produce next.

ALEX

This comment from the link you posted was very telling:

What was truly insulting was Mike Huckabee being interviewed at the convention. He was asked about Palin's experience. He said it's not experience that matters but judgment. Hokay! So you're going to talk out of THAT side of your mouth today. The other side tomorrow. He also said that the appeal of Palin is that she is just like us. No Mike, sorry. If that is code for lowered expectations, it won't work.

The hypocrisy, flip flops, and talking out boths sides of their mouths would be sickening if it wasn't so hilariously obvious.

Oh, and NOW they're latching onto the 'change' bandwagon. A guy who's been firmly steeped between W's butt cheeks for 8 years and in Congress for 30. Oh, ya. That's 'change' GOP style.

lol

The newsmedia are talking about the fact that large numbers of delegates left the convention during the day on Thursday. I guess they figured they wouldn't be hearing anything new.

Looks like Sarah P is getting caught in another lie, too. Just exactly WHAT happened to that jet she sold on eBay?

Oh ... and why did she attend nearly as many colleges as McCainhas houses?

The jet:

After going unsold for months, the jet was put into the hands of Turbo North Aviation, an Anchorage aircraft broker, which put an asking price of $2.45 million on the nearly $2.7 million jet. It quickly sold to Alaska businessman Larry Reynolds for $2.1 million ($31,000 of which went to Turbo Aviation). Today the Westwind II jet spends its days ushering wealthy hunters around Alaska and Russia.

So, an asset of the state of Alaska was sold privately after the eBay auction failed, and is now used carrying rich people around the state, until perhaps they build that "Roas to Nowhere", which she apparently still supports.

Sarah P - the more you know, the better it gets.

Fuck that noise.

You wanna' fuck what noise!!!!???

McCain's going to lead the GOPiggies in a crusade against the GOPiggies who controlled Congress from 1995-2007?

LOL

That was the most boring convention speech of the year and one of the most boring acceptance speeches ever. I'm a political junkie who has watched 30 debates this year, including Republican ones. I fell asleep 40 minutes into this one.

One style point: Talking about how tough you are, in facing the challenges of foreign policy and terror, isn't effective when you do it in a whisper.

Just terrible.

Incidentally, thank you protesters for helping the Republicans by acting like asshats and disrupting his speech several times. That'll help a lot.

I didn't even bother to watch this speech.....so I'll have to take RCADE's assessment of it. I didn't expect that McCain would give a great convention speech anyway. I'm sure NOT enthused about our choices....but, I haven't been for quite awhile now anyway.

Reflecting back on the RNC convention, rather than the Palin speech, the thing that sticks out most to me is the cynical showing of the 9/11 video.

Once again the GOP has shown they will use tragedy to scare up votes. They haven't caught Bin Laden, and I'm sure those images were painful to people who lost friends or loved ones that tragic day.

The GOP doesn't own 9/11. It was America's tragedy. To continue to use that horrible event for political purposes is the basest form of politics. The kind we need to rid our political process of once and for all.

Tributes ON 9/11 are appropriate. This was anything but.

That was the most boring convention speech of the year and one of the most boring acceptance speeches ever.

Sincerety has always bored the left. If you don't fill up a stadium with screaming zombies and put on a rock show where you promise everyone everything, then it's boring. Once again the emphasis is on style instead of substance.

"Sincerety has always bored the left."

No, that's not it, it's definietly not McCain's sincerety.

What is it--that je ne sais quoi--McCain exudes?

Ossification? Petrification? Putrification? Opportunism? Pandering? Hypocrisy? Mendacity?

If you don't fill up a stadium with screaming zombies and put on a rock show where you promise everyone everything, then it's boring.

Aren't you one of the same people who was screaming like a Hannah Montana fan after Palin spoke?

As a general rule, exciting people in your speeches is a good thing.

Whether it was sincere or insincere, it was Ambien. McCain has never looked worse in the campaign. His best hope is that people were watching the Giants/Redskins instead of that debacle.

last nights speech shows it sure doesn't hurt to toot your
own horn. its beginning to look like the swift boat cronies may get their chance to hang ten on the commander in chiefs desk.

Notice no Democratic 527 group has put out cynical ads that say something like, "Ya, you were a POW and missed the Vietnam war. That gives you experience to be Commander in Chief beyond heroically enduring beatings and isolation how?"

On the other hand we know someone else who did fight and who's very patriotism and actions were cynically called into question.

Democrats are more responsible people that way politically.

(CBS) The presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain is now even at 42 percent, according to a new CBS News poll conducted Monday-Wednesday of this week.

What a boring speech it was.

First 80% sucked, last 20% OK.

WiSGOD

Something's fishy about that CBS NEWS poll.

Both McCain and Obama's positive approval numbers are 20+ points lower than every other poll taken in the last week. Check out RealClearPolitics

Another thing.... Check out my posts on the Thursday Nooner in reply to your post.

@'s 120, 122, and 123

www.drudge.com

I don't know how McCain can call himself the candidate for change when he has been in Washington for 20 years.

So everything he has done the past 20 years was wrong?

The only thing worse than John McCain's speech was Cindy McCain's speech. The spokesmodel looked ridiculous and out of place, her speech made me laugh out loud. If they think Americans struggling to pay mortgages and buy food will identify with those two they are crazy. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. John McCain we will definitely enjoy having Democrats in the White House.
The Republicans nominated a ticket comprised of cartoon characters that real Americans can see through too easily.
It's a great year to be a Democrat.

"First 80% sucked, last 20% OK. Posted by wisgod"

Sort of agree. I thought it was a pretty abysmal speech - poorly delivered. However, the part at the end about his time as a POW was pretty poignant and compelling.

But when you really analyze even that part, the whole thing was why he WANTS to be President, not why he SHOULD be President.

726,

McCain has seen the light!

Here you AU.

This charge is based on looking at the budget for Alaskas Special Education Service Agency for 2007-2009. In fact, the December 2006 budget document that they cite would have been prepared by the outgoing administration that of Republican Frank Murkowski, whom Palin defeated.

Whats gone unmentioned is that the Palin signed into law a dramatic reform of the states education financing system that equalizes aid to rural and urban districts, while significantly increasing funding for special needs students.
