Three times in recent years, John McCain's catalogs of "objectionable" spending have included earmarks requested by Sarah Palin during her tenure as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Her town of 6,000 people received $11.9 million in earmarks from 2000 to 2003.

He was against her request for money, not necessarily against her.

he was also a POW.

She is one heckuva "reformer". I wonder if God told her to request all those tax dollars?

Did they mention McCain was a POW?

517, haven't you heard this election isn't about issues or fact based analysis. It's all about the story, the narrative, at least the story from the McCain camp. Thus, McCain was against Palin before he was for her.

That's really all you need to know!

However I do get a kick out of the idea that John McCain was against Palin before he was for her

I get a kick out of this line given that Joe Biden doesn't think Barack Obama is qualified for the Presidency and said he'd like to run as John McCain's running mate.

This posting is misogynistic and unpatriotic and anti-american because it picks on a a woman and a POW and jesus and guns and glory and abraham lincoln and little babies and puppy dogs.

I can't believe you guys would presume, since your betters have presented you with choices that are better than you are, to have the nerve to question those choices.

Makes me want to dis-continue the first admendment..oh wait,...we already did that.

---the right-----

rob,

all the more reason to vote for barack
cause biden is one of your folk too.

him being from delaware
you should relate

lip you forgot apple pie

McSame wasn't against her, as much as, like the rest of the world, he hadn't heard of her.

"Palin said Alaskas congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge as part of a package deal and that she 'would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge."
Ketchikan Daily News 9/2006

A year later she abruptly cancelled the funding.

She didn't make the announcement here in Ketchikan. She didn't alert local mayors that she'd made the decision. She didn't notify Ketchikan's Representative or Senator, or even the Congressional delegation, apparently, that a decision was made and an announcement was on its way. No, the effective end of three decades of effort towards a bridge was announced in a press release launched perhaps coincidentally early in the day to meet the East Coast media deadlines.--
Ketchikan Daily News Editorial, 10/11/07 - on Palin's abrupt decisions to cancel the bridge funding by sending out a 5am press release to hit East Coast news cycles

The politics behind the flip flop...

Governor Sarah Palin's interview with Charlie Rose 10/12/07

CR: What was that highway Senator Stevens wanted to build?

SP: He wanted to build a bridge.

CR: You stopped that didn't you?

SP: Stopped that because we'll make sensible decisions using other peoples money, federal money, and we'll make some wise decisions on how to build up our infrastructure.

CR: Did you get any feedback on your decision?

SP: From those in Congress?

CR: Yes

SP: Yes I did, but Alaskans are supportive, again just to make some wise decisions with other peoples money.

The governor's decision was made just 6 weeks after U.S. Senator Ted Stevens Girdwood home was raided by the FBI and rumors were at a fever pitch that an indictment was soon to follow.

The reason for sending out the 5am press release was to hit east coast newscycles to gain maximum national attention for the move. The move garnered big news coverage nationwide.

According to the Associated Press, when she was running for governor in 2006, Palin said she was insulted by the term "bridge to nowhere," according to Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein, a Democrat, and Mike Elerding, a Republican who was Palin's campaign coordinator in the southeast Alaska city.

"People are learning that she pandered to us by saying, I'm for this' ... and then when she found it was politically advantageous for her nationally, abruptly she starts using the very term that she said was insulting," Weinstein said.

I get a kick out of this line given that Joe Biden doesn't think Barack Obama is qualified for the Presidency and said he'd like to run as John McCain's running mate.

That is pretty funny. Do you think he will try to bump Obama off once he is president?

Better be careful here, the deflection police might slap our hands.

JH, Thanks for letting me know, what I need to know.

One more thing, if McCain ever ok'ed something for her, was he for her?

Do you think he will try to bump Obama off once he is president?

Nah... but I'll bet there will be plenty of times where Biden turns to his staff and says, "This guy doesn't have a fucking clue what he's doing."

Did they mention McCain was a POW?

and you bring back so many memories of the nam era when heroes came home to you style of "rhetoric" like spitting on them and calling them baby killers.

another pathetic example of pure FEAR and terror because it is evident now

even in this time of anti republican

WE CAN WIN IN NOVEMBER

and you and the left are scared to death

"This guy doesn't have a fucking clue what he's doing."

Like the current VP doesn't say that right now.

Hey Bushlover,

Did McCain mention that he was a POW?

Has anyone noticed that Biden looks like the bad guy from Indiana Jones And the Last Crusade, 10 seconds after choosing poorly?

m

No. Never noticed it. But hey he does look better than Bush 41 does.

McCain was a POW. Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.

"WE CAN WIN IN NOVEMBER

and you and the left are scared to death"

and you are too stupid to even understand why all of America should be afraid of a McCain pregnancy.

he was also a POW.

Ya........but he was against that too.

Yea but I bet he's not against seeing Palin play Obama in horse, 1v1, on the court. I bet she'd beat his ass. There'd definitely be an elbow to the lip involved.

-Viz

When Harry Smith asked Obama how he decided to chose Biden as his running mate, Obama specified three criteria that he thought were the most important.

And the third criteria for me, I think, was independence. I want somebody who is going to be able to challenge my thinking and not simply be a yes person when it comes to policy making.

latimesblogs.latimes.com

So lets see... Obama thinks its a good idea to choose a VP with whom he will not always agree, particularly with regard to not being a "yes person when it comes to policy making." Now it would seem that there is evidence to suggest that McCain and Palin have had disagreements in the past concerning policy making... care to explain how this reflects badly on McCain or anyone else? Aren't politicians supposed to disagree with each other from time to time?

lacigolli

do you think palin will really have a big role in a mccain administration

or is she just going to be like the figurehead vp's of the past?

I am not sure what you mean by figurehead vp's of the past. Cheney currently holds the title and I don't think anyone would question the amount of influence he has had in the Bush administration, particularly in the first five or six years. Gore also had a little bit of influence in those areas that were of interest to him. I cannot predict the future, but I think that anyone, particularly someone who has been both a mayor and a governor, would have to be pretty inept to hold the Vice Presidency for four or more years and not find at least something to do along the way. Also, as a journalist by training she is probably just "nosey by nature." Likely it would be difficult to stop her from having a role...

"Joe Biden doesn't think Barack Obama is qualified for the Presidency"

You sure do put a lot of credence in Joe Biden's opinion there Rob. I guess you also agree with Biden's current stance that Obama is the better candidate for the job.

Don't misunderstand me, I am not trying to argue that she would/will make a better VP than Biden (I don't know the answer to that one way or the other). My original point was only that I think it is absurd to say that McCain was "flip-flopping" when he chose Palin simply because they have had policy disagreements in the past. They are politicians, and politicians are supposed to disagree. If anything they were just doing their jobs.

Jon Stewart SMASHED the rightards and there pundits/leaders for their COMPLETE INCONSISTENCIES on several Palin issues.

Palin's signature on earmark: "We did well!" - One McCain opposed

McCain complains loudly about earmarks, pork barrel politics and has developed a reputation as a reformer.

But a closer examination of the record reveals that talk is cheap and when it comes to action McCain prefers to go with the flow.

Its all bullshit and its bad for you.

don't fall into the trap of making this about Palin. Who really gives a fuck about her except what her nomination tells us about McSame. Keep it about him, or risk losing focus... and maybe the erection, too.

Watched the video but didn't see Stewort go one on one with any of those folks.

I liked Palin's line that being mayor of a small town is similar to being a community organizer except that you have actual responsibilities.

The more the left hit on Palin and the "inexperienced" line the more it reflects on Obama's lack of experience.

You all are screwed again!

I would like to offer a Republican prayer at this time.

Dear Lord, John McCain is an American hero and a POW that puts Country First(trade mark). Please, help John McCain, who hates dirty Muslims, kill their children where they sleep- Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb them, Lord. Lord, bless John who, as a POW, will never forget 9/11 and has no fear of the Iraqi's that attacked us on 9/11.

God bless our soldiers, POW's like John McCain and condemn the terrorist from Iraq that attacked us on 9/11. Jesus, bless our families and protect our unborn children(the next generation of POW's and hockey moms) from evil aborters like Hilary Clinton.

Lord, help us rid the earth of godless Muslims like Obama, protect our great POW's, never forget 9/11 and the Iraqi's who attached us.

Please Lord, help us shatter that highest hardest glass ceiling by promoting hockey moms and POWs who never forgot 9/11 and always put Country First (trade mark).

God bless American's who use the slogan "Country First" (trade mark) and condemn all others to hell.
