"It's over" meaning November, not Palin staying on the ticket.

She is right. McCain has blown whatever credibility he had left, and if you are alert to his changes over the past six months, there wasn't much left.

Noonan is right about half the time, but ultimately, she's a New York/D.C. person with little grasp of Flyover Country.

I think that is the biggest misconception among far right and far left: That all you need to win an election is to get the "party faithful" out to vote. If you can't get moderate voters to vote, you will lose. In that sense Mccain found himself in a double bind. He couldnt pick a moderate VP because the polls suggested that he would be creamed by social conservatives. He couldn't pick a far right candidate like Palin because it would scare away the moderate vote. I think as Republicans they decided that they had to stick to what they knew: Social Conservatives

After listening to Palin's speech, I think she will be a tough campaigner and she will help energize the McCain campaign. But, referring back to my previous, she will be quizzed like heck on international issues and sophisticated policy issues. She is a lot more articulate than the current POTUS but, like him, she hasn't got a lot of international experience, nor does she have more than a jousting politicians knowledge of more technical policy issues. And she hasn't shaken her reputation as an ideologue, which will be a lightening rod for personal attacks down the road.
