Sarah Palin was a hockey mom, small-town mayor and rising young Republican star in Alaska in 2003 when she ran afoul of her party's establishment over ethics reform and was cast into the political wilderness.

I just dont believe this....Former small town mayor, new governor of Alaska..Geez, the dems will be all over this one...Is she ready to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency?? Dan Quayle all over again....

What a dumb choice...Alaska is already a red state - no help there....Hard to think it would cause many women to vote for McCain....really dumb and it shows the recklessness of McCain....

STILL the oddest choice McPOW could have made.

In some ways she is virtually a Democrat who has more opposition from Republicans than from Dems.
Her effect on the presidential race is unpredictable.

Can't wait to hear her riveting commentary during her 2 years stint as a sports reporter in Anchorage:

"The Juneau Wolves from Juneau High blasted the Prudoe Bay Oilers from Penguin High 56-53 last night"

And when the Hillary PUMA's get a hold of her derogatory commenst about Sen. Clinton "she needs to quit whining" they'll flock back to the DEMS, or sit it out.

McCain and Palin are gonna kick some lib ass!!!

Palin has an interesting biography. She seems much more like a maverick than John McCain, and I think she might have been a good veep choice in '12 after another four years as governor. Now, though, it's crazy.

Alan Colmes pointed out something funny on his blog: Palin's first child was born less than eight months after she eloped, a fact she hides by claiming they eloped to save money.

To think that Sarah Palin is a strong leader, a great response to joe biden by McCain, biden, a moron of foreign policy from the left, a clown who allowed our enemies to outstrategize the U.S., an appeaser, making America's enemies feel warm and fuzzy as they stirred up tensions worldwide, and the morons on the left blamed G.W. as a cover-up for carter/clinton's failed foreign policy and now they want America to turn the keys of the nation over to an old drooling, blathering, appeasing moron and their token messiUH.The 2 are a couple of crock (of shit) stars.

McCain/Palin 08

It is over for McCain..Sad to say..I am still going to vote for him...But she is completly devoid of "gravitas" as they say.....Anyone can rise to power in a small populated state like Alaska...Look how phony John Edwards bought his senate seat in North carolina and used it to try to get the dem nomination or VP spot (before his pecker got in the way)....Politicians from small states can rise up without really being vetted....

Is she ready to be president if McCain kicks it???

Damn ! Sarah Palin has more class, penache, and character than the whole leftwing line-up of clowns.
And they say usama ubama can speak, wow, what a woman.

The libs response to this great gal is all the more proof of how divided this country is, but then again, it has never been the left's goal to bring the country together, it has always been their goal to divide and conquer, so they can have power.
Lefty , look at the class, the penache that that woman brings, her character, and measure it up to those 2 clowns you are offering, there is no contest, just the same old liberal tripe, whining, and lying.

"and the morons on the left blamed G.W. as a cover-up for carter/clinton's failed foreign policy"

7-1/2 years of Bush and the righties still blame Clinton. Pathetic. Appeaser??? "making America's enemies feel warm and fuzzy as they stirred up tensions worldwide"

You have the nerve to say that after the way Bush treated the Saudis after 9-11???? After OPEC cuts the oil supply to push up prices???

Nonsense. You know it's nonsense too.

Yeah, I guess we need YOU to bring us together, Mr. Rightnut. You clearly are all about unity.

And when the Hillary PUMA's get a hold of her derogatory commenst about Sen. Clinton "she needs to quit whining" they'll flock back to the DEMS, or sit it out. -- AU

Unfortunately for the Dems, many Obama supporters were -- and continue to be -- nastier to Clinton than Palin was.

Alan Colmes pointed out something funny on his blog: Palin's first child was born less than eight months after she eloped, a fact she hides by claiming they eloped to save money.

No love lost there.

For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country with the nomination of Sarah Palin!

She seems much more like a maverick than John McCain, and I think she might have been a good veep choice in '12 after another four years as governor. Now, though, it's crazy. -- RCade

Crazier than Obama for Prez?

She has one of the same liabilities -- very little campaign experience -- but she also has the potential for being very tough on the Dems. She steals Obama's story right out from under him -- she has actually accomplished the kind of things Obama is selling (outsider rooting out the scoundrels). People seem to be hungry for a fresh face with a good story, and this campaign has dragged on so long that Obama's becoming old news. And a lot of the voters who are in play (Hillary's working class supporters, e.g.) are more likely to resonate with someone whose political career begin with the PTA than with Sen. Harvard Law Review.

Plus, Obama supporters like AU seem determined to offend as many women as possible.

I hope American women like Palin because, if McSame is elected, she is the last gift they are going to get from the GOP.

"wow, what a woman"

hooey, rightnut.

a 'wow' is hardly in order.
this woman has arrived out of nowhere just hours ago.
anyone who, prior to today's news, has heard of this woman either is living in alaska, is a reporter covering the nra, or eats nuts and shits with the bears in the fairbank's outback. perhaps more than one applies.

to form an opinion in two hours is nuts...
but then you are a nut, right, nut.
apt name.

all the best

Biden will tear her to shreds in the Veep debates.

Can't wait!

McCain's biggest problem was with his base... Evangelicals can't line up fast enough now that she's on board.

townhall.com

Plus she will pull in at least some of the female undecided vote just because she's a woman.

Provided she holds her own in the debates and makes some decent speeches. This may turn out to be a brilliant pick. Even if McCain loses in November (and that's still very likely given the fact that there is no way in hell the Dems should lose), it sets up Palin for future runs and that's good for the GOP.

She's also currently embroiled in a political scandal.

Thank you McSame, you make it too easy!

You still demonstrate your inability to comprehend the meaning of the word 'appeasement'.

Nobody hears expect you to learn though.

meh.. I think the Republicans are eating their young in this case. The Leutenant governor of Alaska, Steve Parnell is running a tight race against Congressman Don Young... he with Ted Stevens are of the old guard Republican thuggary that everyone is all a dither about. This way the good ol boys can throw two under the bus at the same time... and claim a progressive agenda. Gotta love them pugs.

McCain is running a commercial now with Biden saying, and then reaffirming that Obama is not qualified to be President and that he would be honored to run against or WITH McCain. He says that the Presidency is not the place for on the job training.

Gonna be tough to defend that in the debates... but I really hope Obama's attack dog does try to "shred" her...

I've heard that line so many times here today.

You seems to forget that the propaganda arm of the GOP, FAUX News, had daily references to a woman being the possible president akin to hearing the 'nagging' of 'take out the trash'.

Mr Bill Kristol himself is one of the biggest offenders and yet he claims he never said it.

What's the matter? No one would talk to you with the first name you had so you've gone with RightisTrite to get attention that way? Hows it working out for you? oh fuck off asshole... been using this for months now... years even... you're too stupid notice until now. Making fun of another wingnut that frequents this place. Grow a brain bitch.

Gonna be tough to defend that in the debates..

And when the Dems start playing Mitt and Huck's attacks on McSame's failed economic policies? Folks do understand the competitive nature of politics Rob.

But it's gonna be hard for the GOPpers to play the experience card with a VP who's experience is running a fishing village part time and half a term as Governor of the 3rd smallest state in the Union.

Maybe McSame should offer to show the voters her tits too.

On the face of it, McCain has failed the ultimate test that any presidential candidate must face in picking a running mate: selecting someone who is unambiguously qualified to be president.

Palin is a talented politician who has both support among conservatives and a compelling personal story. But her short resume in Alaska politics and her nonexistent national track record will make it impossible for McCain to argue with a straight face that she was the most qualified person he could have selected.

www.time.com

McCain panicked, pure and simple. Now the GOP-bots are claiming Palin to be of equal heft to Obama. Funny, I don't remember her predicting the foolishness of Bush's Iraq invasion beforehand in 2002, nor have I heard her claim that the hunt for Al Qaeda was prematurely back-burnered by the detour. Didn't hear that she spent one second learning how the FEDERAL government worked from the US Congress, nor have I been told about all the significant legislation with her imprimatur during her lengthy two year stewardship of Alaska.

The only thing I see is the fact she has different physical parts than does John McCain. Of course McCain's "judgment" tells him that Hillary backers will flock to his new gal without noticing that she stands on the wrong side of most issues that Hillary Clinton champions, such as women's choice, equal pay, and children's healthcare. He just figures that being a woman is enough evidently.

And Obama can't describe how he looks different than those who've preceeded him without being accused of playing issue-politics. Sarah Palin's the latest prima facia example of McCain putting party over country. If Sarah Palin is the most qualified Republican politician worthy of being his running mate, what does that say about the state of the Party and the people it sends to Washington? Maybe if he wishes hard enough no one will notice.

PHOENIX

Of course you jump to conclusions.

Mine? Palin is absolutely the wrong choice for McCain

I Don't see the left telling people who can marry and who can't.

Don't see the left telling a woman what she can do with her own body or life.

Don't see the left telling people how/when and where they can pray.

Don't see the left stealing elections and disenfranchising elections for the past eight years...

Don't see the left screaming "You're with us or you're against us..."

It wasn't the left who trashed Kerry/Clinton and Obama with Inuendo and outright lies.

And it wasn't the left who let the Bin Laden Family AND the Taliban fly out of the US on 9/11 while the rest of us were grounded at airports.

And it definately wasn't the left searching under a Speaking Podium looking for WMD's while his 'BASE' hooted him on.

Amazing to watch the members of the republican party swiftboat itself. And you make it so easy for that to happen

With guys like RightWingNut supporting the republican party how can Obama lose?

Well, with Palin on board, He can't!

So....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Okay, I just have to diary about this, although in many ways this falls into the "none of our business category".

But it appears that Pallin's last child, a baby with Down's syndrome, may not be hers. It may be that of her teenage daughter.

Why do candidates have to be personal friends to run with each other?

Obama and Biden know each other, and Biden probably gave McCain his best commercial so far saying Obama shouldn't be president.

You know, I am a believer in in knowing what youre doing when you apply for a job. Uh, and I think that if I were seriously to consider running on a national ticket, I would essentially have to start now, before having served a day in the Senate. Now there may be some people who are comfortable doing that, but I am not one of those people. Barack Obama, 2004

Obama's McCain's best commercial.

My god, that unveiling of Palin was about as simulating as a PTA meeting. What's next a cake bake, a car wash? This is the intense strategizing going on over at McDinosaur headquarters. McDinosaur was really looking like he needed some Geritol.

The entire thing was so lackluster pathetic.

You could almost hear...."Pat, I'd like to buy a vowel...."

What a freakshow.

Palin Pick Leaves Bruised Feelings

By Anne E. Kornblut

DENVER -- Though it was high in shock value, the Palin pick left bruised feelings among the short-list contenders who were not picked -- and infuriated some Republican officials who privately said McCain had gone out on a limb, unnecessarily, without laying the groundwork for such an unknown. Two senior Republican officials close to Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty said they had both been rudely strung along and now "feel manipulated."

CNN) -- John McCain needs what Kinky Friedman calls "a checkup from the neck up."

In choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, he is not thinking "outside the box," as some have said. More like out of his mind.

Palin a first-term governor of a state with more reindeer than people, will have to put on a few pounds just to be a lightweight. Her personal story is impressive: former fisherman, mother of five. But that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

For a man who is 72 years old and has had four bouts with cancer to have chosen someone so completely unqualified to become president is shockingly irresponsible. Suddenly, McCain's age and health become central issues in the campaign, as does his judgment.

Meanwhile Palin is under investigation for abuse of power.

She sought to get a state trooper fired who was involved in a custody battle with her sister.

I don't know how to convince you that you are completely out of touch except to remind you that (A) you would not have believed in September that Clinton would dominate the working-class vote, and (B) you would not have believed in May that only 1/2 of Clinton's supporters would be backing Obama going into the convention.

I bet Comrad Putin is shakin' in his Cossack boots right now.

This is the BEST the GOP could do? What a slap in the face to Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Olympia Snowe, to mention just a few. How about - oh - Elizabeth Dole or Condeleeza Rice? And THIS is the best they could come up with? I just read that in several interviews conducted over the past 2 years Governor Palin has stated that she doesn't give Iraq much thought. Well - let's hope that she at least can FIND it on a map. Her son is heading over there soon. Bet she starts giving it some thought then?

PIC: McCain Voters Await Inspiration

www.youtube.com

If this is Palin, what was McCain thinking?

Oh this election is going to be interesting to say the least.

who care's about the politics on all this, she's hot.

Just saw the cover of Vogue, very nice

Legislative experience, Biden and Obama have more. EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE, Palin has more than Biden and Obama combined.

OK, I know I've snarked today.

But, seriously.....

How can you pick someone to be a (72 year old) heartbeat away from the Presidency when you've only met them once - six months ago, and then for an hour at your pad (your pic) in Arizona?

Not the way to select a VP candidate.

Not a move you make when you claim national security is really important to you. She doesn't even know the main 20 things a VP candidate should know about foreign policy, etc.

Plus, she just pronounced "nuclear" as "nookular" today.

Hey AU,

Good to see you come so alive today... snark or not!

This VP selection really has cranked your tractor, as well as mine. We'll all have plenty of time to "go nookular" over the run-up to Nov.

Gotta love free speech and encourage it.

Let's peel back the onion. These petty grievances currently being whined about actually pale to the larger issues we all face as Americans.

I find much to like about Palin.

Her lack of experience is a major problem though, as far as I am concerned.

Damn!

Thanks DANVED

I just really question McCain's last minute decision based on what campaign insiders describe as 'shaking up the election". Is he campaigning to run the country or what? That was rather rash of him I must say. She's not hard to look at, but we're not contesting a beauty pageant, and her position is one (72 year old) heartbeat away from the Presidency if McCain wins.

There were so many better choices he could have made if he wanted a woman - Susan Colllins, Hutchinson, Whitman, Elizabeth Dole - women who have more of a clue. Seems he thought with his pecker on this one and not his brain.

It's gonna be a very interesting election full of lively discussions.

Have a good Labor Day weekend.

"Susan Colllins, Hutchinson, Whitman, Elizabeth Dole"

Please don't mention that willful killer Whitman in the same breath.

After all, when pressed about why she lied to the first responders, her answer was we had to reopen Wall Street.

Clearly, profits before people.

Only Collins is OK in my book, DANFORTH

I don't care for any of the others I listed, and only listed them because they have Vuh Jay Jay's - and that seemed to be important to McCain in making his pick.

"I don't care for any of the others I listed, and only listed them because they have Vuh Jay Jay's"

I was talking to the bride and her mom tonight, and I dropped the phrase "vagina vote". Bad idea.

Very true. That is the major reason I could never vote for Obama. And to everyone who keeps pissing their pants that Palin is a heartbeat away from being the Prez: She seems like a quick study to me. We have a President, not a dictator. A President has expert advisors. Of course, the final decision is the President's, but I would trust her to make the correct decision. I would trust Joe Biden, too. I would NOT trust Obama.

The only thing I'm sure of is that the Dems will suffer a lot of blowback if they persist in sexist attacks.

No one needs to attack Palin on sexist grounds, nor should they. Saying Palin isn't ready to be VP isn't a sexist comment. There were plenty of Republican women who would have been up to the task, but Palin isn't one of them.

I heard John Dickerson on Washington Weekly say that McCain likes to shot craps and that he really rolled the dice on this one. God, as Einstein once said, may not play dice with the universe, but John McCain played dice with his VP pick, the first test it is often said of potential president.

Go Palin. She is real and not a Hillary fake. She wants to drill in Alaska and reduce our foreign oil demand! Yeah. This is gonna be interesting.

What concerns me is the fact that this nomination effectively consigns a helpless, mentally disadvantaged child to secondary status. At this time, the child needs to bond to both parents to ensure the maximal functioning of the cerebral tissue. In Palin, we see the embodiment of the Pro-lifers. Let the babies be born, rely solely upon God to raise them to productive citizens.

"Go Palin. She is real and not a Hillary fake. She wants to drill in Alaska and reduce our foreign oil demand! Yeah. "
check out T Boone Pickens view on this
(USA uses 25% of oil yet has only 3% of reserves, can't drill our way out)

T Boone Pickens is a conservative

There is alot of talk in blogs about people being mavericks these days. Tell me this, why would we elect a president, vice president included, who will have both parties pissed off at them all the time. Talk about Washington Gridlock.

I understand that Washington needs a change, but a change for the better is what i had in mind. Not a change for the sake of pissing everyone off.

What concerns me is the fact that this nomination effectively consigns a helpless, mentally disadvantaged child to secondary status.

When you think about the four million handicap as well as their family and friends, it can't hurt the repubs. Not sure how the child becomes secondary. If anything there will be more scrutiny about the childs well being. I am curious if celebrities and the charities they sponsor will use this opportunity to get publicity and donations.

Women tempted to vote for Palin might look at McSame's record on women's issues. Not good, not to mention his personal record with women. Not good.

Anybody really think she is going to have ANY policy say in a McCain White House? Hell, McCain does not even listen to his fellow Rep. Senators.

This is just a head fake.

Palin has no clue what the VP even does!!!! HER WORDS!

I have seen that clip more than once and you are taking it out of context. no surprise there but she knows what the vp does and YOU KNOW it.....it was more of question of what would SHE do........its a little different if you ask me

When then never happened she fired his supervisor for not firing the brother-in-law. Naturally, she denies the charges.

a lie here if the reports I heard were true
the supervisor resigned. now he may have done that under pressure or something but she did NOT fire him according to report on cnn........so that means that I HAVE TO BE RIGHT

Hell, he only met her once.

Palin, - 'pro-life' - is against birth control and condoms - the best pregnancy preventives for sexually active women - EVEN for married women.

This is going to backfire big time.

McCain wanted to 'shake up the election'. Well, he's doing it at the expense of making a reasoned judgment. He probably doesn't care because he's 72 years old. Sadly, the rest of us will have to live with his decisions should he be elected - God forbid.

AU........you and begayla and bergon have pretty much already conceeded that mccain will die within a year or two.........and as i said earlier.....that is a true concern but do you REALLY want to bring up experience in this case.
I really think thats a loser for liberals,
AGAIN, the experince angle is being played because she is a CONSERVATIVE WOMAN and not a '
sophomore'governor

Freshman Governor. Reckless decision.

We need more gridlock in Washington, not less. And McCain's support of the horrible McCain-Feingold bill lost him a lot of conservative support, but branded him as a guy who despises interest groups' influence in Washington. He's never voted for an earmark for his own state, for example. And so you'll please excuse me if the prospect of the two most liberal members of the Senate running the White House, along with sizable majorities in both Houses, scares the hell out of me.

Picking Palin is one of the most courageous things he's done as a candidate. I simply have to give him a lot of credit. And if I feel that way--a guy who hates the thought of voting for him--what's happening across the country?

A lot of people who are changing their minds, that's what. And they're not all Republicans.

SOPHOMORE senator....reckless decision

and a liberal to boot..........there I GOT YOU.....ha ha

hey AU.......what about entertainment at dem convention........too bad they couldnt do some REAL stuff instead of all that messiah shit

have you ever had the time to analys any of stevie wonders stuff.........incredibly complex....

see you post gustave

SHIT>........forgot

freshman gov.......reckless decision because she is a heartbeat away

and I SAY

sophomore senator.....is a reckless decision because HIS HEARTBEAT IS THE ONE ALREADY........

"Picking Palin is one of the most courageous things he's done as a candidate."

FF!!!!
LOL

Palin has an interesting biography. She seems much more like a maverick than John McCain, and I think she might have been a good veep choice in '12 after another four years as governor. Now, though, it's crazy.
POSTED BY RCADE

Obama does have less experience in goverment than Palin. He is a senator for two years, spending these two years in running for president.

Friendly suggestion:

It would be helpful to you to check your facts before posting so you don't look like a dumbass.

"Picking Palin is one of the most courageous things he's done as a candidate."

If you call hypocritical pandering "courageous".

Uh huh Doc.

When Obama picked Biden, his standing in the polls dropped. Let's see about McCain, and whether America agrees with me. Wanna bet on it?

Gallup:

August 30 - Obama continues to lead 49-41

Un-fucking-canny. This is what happens to political discourse when someone DARES to run against the Chosen One.

Accusing a woman of blowing a guy to get places the equivalent of someone flatout calling Obama a steppin-fetchit house nigger. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Ashamed? Hardly! Suck it up deal with it.

If you want to use the word 'nigger', go ahead. You KNOW you want to.

No. Unlike you, I have some class when speaking of people I don't politically agree with.

This sort of behaviour the Democrats are displaying is really making me think of Orwell. I look back and forth between the two parties and.. I'll be damned.. I really am having serious trouble telling which is which.

How many of you know that Palin was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it?

Congress also gave Alaska the 200 million for the Bridge just knocked out the clause that said it can only be used on the Bridge. Wonder what they spent the money on?

Reformer, I just don't see it.

Gee, the Left has gone Full Alinsky on this one... (Rules for Radicals)

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

They're scared sh*tless of a little beauty queen from Alaska.

...so what's new about Lefties being scared sh*tless? Pussy metro-sexuals...

McCain could have nominated Mother Theresa for sainthood and the Left would immediately be lobbying against her questioning her compassion and commitment to the poor... and making fun of the skygod she worships...

As for Obama's inexperience, even Joe Biden doesn't think Barack's ready for the job!

Biden should be your nominee for president, NOT Barack Obama!

The KOS Huffers must have a dozen anti-Palin threads running right now.

You'd think it was Halloween, and someone had turned the blogosphere over to Icabod Crane to tell tales about a headless female horseman from Alaska...

She's a conservative....

Boo!

McCain could have nominated Mother Theresa for sainthood

The same Mother Theresa McCain lied about, that Cindy talked to before they adopted?

LOL! I've heard a dozen versions of that story over the years, and the reporters got something wrong in each and every one of them... and now they blame it on Cindy McCain trying to "enhance" the story.

Pathetic.

When was the last time you saw a report on a story that you knew something about in the newspapers and found that the reporters had gotten it all right? She gives interviews, they report. And not all reporters are all that competent.

The Left has gone into panic ATTACK mode. You folks need to chill. You're holding on WAY too tight. Sarah Palin is an awesome woman!

Here's the cynicism of the Left...

The McCain's rescue two young girls with severe congenital medical defects from the slums of Bengladesh and see that they got the medical care they need and that they are given a decent childhood and upbringing... and what does the Left focus on...

...whether or not Cindy McCain "met" mother Theresa??? And if she hadn't, and a reporter misreported the story (since the kids came from Mother Theresa's orphanage), they accuse Cindy McCain of lying???

You folks are morally deranged.

Here's why the Left is in Panick Attack mode... from a Drudgereport thread on the latest Zogby Poll (Zogby's servers have crashed in heavy traffic)...

UTICA, New York - Republican John McCain's surprise announcement Friday of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate - some 16 hours after Democrat Barack Obama's historic speech accepting his partys presidential nomination - has possibly stunted any Obama convention bump, the latest Zogby Interactive flash poll of the race shows. The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden. In other words, the race is a dead heat

Sarah Palin is no history buff:

Here is Palin's response to a candidate questionnaire for the Alaska 2006 gubernatorial race:

11. Are you offended by the phrase Under God-- in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and Ill fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance

Wikipedia on the Pledge of Allegiance:

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855-1931), a Baptist minister, a Christian Socialist, and the cousin of Socialist Utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850-1898).

Gee, the governor from Alaska isn't a "Google Genius" like you... how droll. What will they criticize her for next, not knowing the year in which the 22nd amendment was passed?

Now, how many states are there in the union?
