Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

An obituary of very-much-alive Apple founder Steve Jobs was published accidentally by the Bloomberg business news wire. The obit, reprinted by Gawker, said that he "helped make computers as easy to use as telephones, changed the way animated films are made, persuaded consumers to tune in to digital music, and refashioned the mobile phone."

iCoffin.

Isn't Jobs really sick? I thought I read that somewhere.

FF PANCHOVILLA !! iCoffin. I love it !! What about an "iCremation"?

RIP Steve LOL

I love my Macs !

I have 4 PC's here at the house too. They all were just infected with a Trojan virus. Had to have all the hard drives (which were backed up fortunately) wiped and Windows reinstalled.

I've never, ever had a virus on my Macs.

Reports of my demise have been greatly exxagerated.

I thought death had been abolished for the super-rich?

Doesn't the Fed have some type of a program to bail them out from death?

Isn't Jobs really sick? I thought I read that somewhere.

Yes. Jobs has pancreatic cancer:

"I thought death had been abolished for the super-rich?"

It's true more or less. A pancreatic cancer diagnosis generally gives you less than three months. A friend of mine's father died from it back in 2004. Job's came down with it in 2003 and is still kicking. The rich get access to medical support we poor muppets can only dream about from an HMO which of course provides the foundation of medicince for the rich.

I wonder if this means we'll have the Jobs peace prize in the future?

Nobody writes viruses that can only infect 6% of computers. It would be like the cops setting up a speed trap that only tickets 1979 Datsun pickups... not worth the hassle.

the cops setting up a speed trap that only tickets 1979 Datsun pickups.

Now THAT would be funny!

How about-the Artificial iHeart?
For those with vision problems...the iEye.........

I wonder how the obit got published. I bet the Feds will be investigating those who sold short to determine if there was some stock manipulation plot.

Macs are running on Unix. That is the reason, they are more safe.

What a shocker that AU is one of those fucking Mac dorks.

Oh, "Snarky Joe". Sorry you're having SUCH a bad day.

You didn't read I also have 4 PC's at the house?

OK, carry on being a snarky fool

Furio--

Michael Landon had the same cancer and was gone in 4 months.

Steve McQueen died of cancer the same year as my Mom and she lasted longer. He was getting interfuron treatments in Mexico.

Everyone should have their own health insurance and everyone should have it tax deductible.

With the 5 to 15 million or so that are legally here-and need or want HC---that would drive down the cost of a policy.

For those illegally here--they should have to buy a policy on the spot when getting serious treatment they can't or won't pay for. They should also pay for the urgent care visit on the spot. They could go get health care across the border.

"Bloomberg Accidently Kills Steve Jobs"

Whaaa?

*reads article*

Ahhhh!

FF fer headline here.

Ya know, Alfred Nobel once read his own obit.

Basically, it sed he was scum.

The Inventor of Dynamite. Captain Death.

Gave him a bit of a wake up call.

Founded the Nobel Prizes so that his next obit would read nicer.

It worked.

Well, at least until they gave Kissinger that Peace Prize.

Now all bets are off.

On Topic?

Ha! Steve is accidently killed by Bloomberg.

That's funny.

In the media room with the lead i-phone perhaps?

Sorry, thought this was part of the updated Clue Game (TM) thread.

Wonder if Steve manage to read his own obit.

Wonder if Steve found any insights.

Spud hopes Steve beats this pancreatic cancer thing.

That shit's a bitch.

Be Well.

/They say no matter how good or how bad you were in life the number of people who attend yer funeral is mostly dictated by the weather.
//They exagerate, of course, but is still good point.

They all were just infected with a Trojan virus.

Trojan's don't sneak in and infect your computer through security holes. They require user interaction, usually through downloading software or some other executable binary and not scanning it.

I've never, ever had a virus on my Macs.

I've never, ever had a virus on any of the pc's I built and used myself. I've never had a problem with spyware or popup windows.

It has little to do with the operating system. It is a PEBKAC error.

The thing I like about Mac's is if an exploit or hole is found in security, the people who use Mac's report it and a fix is put out farily quickly. Microsoft on the other hand, will take weeks or months to fix a security hole.

I'd still rather use a PC though. A Proper firewall and good Anti-Virus software (I use Eset NOD32) will reduce the amount of nasties that make it to your system.

ya know... I read the obits every day just to make sure my name isn't in there so I know whether to go to work or not.(J/K)

I bet that was a shocker for Mr Jobs that morning if he read it.

If dating Kathy Griffin didn't kill off ole Steve-o, nothing will.

Kathy Griffin had about #100,000 worth of plastic surgery work done to herself.
She's still on the "D list" though.

"Macs are running on Unix. That is the reason, they are more safe."

I always love it when someone says that. Yes, that is correct, you can't really develop a generic virus for Unix. Because someone would actively have to compile it to work with their @#@% system at all.

Much like to do... pretty much anything.. you must compile it specifically for your system. The reason why it's (Unix) most secure is the reason it's also useless to 98% of computer users.
Including those of us in the know, but are sick of doing it every time a new driver comes out.

Having said that: Macs are almost identical to each other. If someone bothers to find a hole in the code and write a virus for it's OS, the inherent Unix protection really isn't going to help. The ONLY thing protecting you is obscurity. That's why the holes in MacOS get sewn up so quickly, to boot. They're all frickin' identical on a core hardware level, so they don't have the same problem Microsoft does: that of making sure the patch works for every obscure architecture out there that us crazy PC users might wanna slap together. If you're using old hardware and want to run the new MacOS, you're just plain SOL. Micsrosoft bends over backwards to try to maintain some backwards compatibility. It's not like Microsoft can snap their fingers and whip out a patch that works for everyone instantly, even with their bigass kludgy HAL. If they were as narrow as Mac hardware, they'd be just as fast.

Fun factoid: hackers release altered ISOs of the macOS that even work on AMD processors. Fun times. That's the ULTIMATE in "WTF" dual booting.

Especially when you can show a Mac "user" their exact same OS, running at the exact same speed... and the hardware costing maybe 60% of the equivalent Mac; less if you build it yourself.. Shuts them up real fast about how much better a value Macs are.

So says a PC user.

I have yet to get a virus on my Macs. Had several on my PC's.

I've been using both for 20+ years

Now I can use Windows and MacOS on 2 of my Macs.

SOHEIFOX, I'd think after recently getting married you wouldn't need to gripe as much as you do about almost everything.

:-)

Steve Jobs, I know this is not the style of this iconoclastic site but I am wholeheartedly with you.
