Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, August 28, 2008

On Fox News, Hillary Clinton senior staffer Howard Wolfson unleashed a broad attack on MSNBC and its top on-air personalities, slamming the network's coverage of the Clintons, hitting back at Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann for using his work for Fox to question his Democratic credentials, and blasting MSNBC as having been taken over by "antics."

Sounds like what Olbermann and Matthews were saying during the coverage was pretty shameful for a legitimate news organization.

Howard Wolfson will never learn.

He does not know how to do what he should have learned by now: How to SHUT UP!

MSNBC has to do something to set them apart. Howard Wolfson probably works for them. Mentioning them on other networks only helps them.

We agree!
www.tommcmahon.net

There is a story today on Drude or HuffPo about the demise of MSNBC. There are to many egotistical puff heads over there.

I'm a Democrat with a long career in the media, and I have to say, while this is on the one hand embarrassingly dirty-laundry kind of stuff, it's also rather amusing. Duke it out, boys, have a good time!

Now all we need is a crazy Zell Millerish challenge to a duel!

No. Sounds like Wolfson needs to learn that there's no crying in politics. Of all the times to have a hissyfit and settle scores, Wolfson picks the week of the Democratic National Convention and uses his new Fox News gig to do it.

neither one works for a legitimate news organization.

"No. Sounds like Wolfson needs to learn that there's no crying in politics. Of all the times to have a hissyfit and settle scores, Wolfson picks the week of the Democratic National Convention and uses his new Fox News gig to do it."

Wrong. Olbermann and Matthews are the ones who "picked" the week of the Convention. From the article:

"Wolfson's decision to unload on MSNBC was triggered by some particularly barbed comments about Wolfson from Olbermann and Matthews yesterday. Matthews slammed Wolfson as Fox's "little toy soldier," while Olbermann joked that Wolfson is Fox's "Tokyo Rose."

With regard to there being "no crying in politics," these guys aren't politicians, they are supposedly "journalists." Again, I see no place for the comments by Olbermann and Matthews on a supposedly legitimate newscast.

The MSNBC coverage is like watching the View back in the Rosie days. Bitches clawing at each other.

But Wolfson is a hypocrite. After being the man primarily responsible for making this election all about Hillary and Bill for the past 2 years, he now asks the media to make a sharp pivot and stop? He helped create this monster. Fuck him.

Again, I see no place for the comments by Olbermann and Matthews on a supposedly legitimate newscast.

I would agree if it was a newscast, but the guys being mentioned are engaged in commentary, which is different.

"I would agree if it was a newscast, but the guys being mentioned are engaged in commentary, which is different."

Why was Wolfson a topic of their commentary?

Why was Wolfson a topic of their commentary?

I would say because he is a political figure (not a politician, but certainly is a political figure). If they had been saying "What a wonderful job Howard did on getting Hillary the nomination", it is unlikely he would be whining about being singled out.

I think we in the court of public opinion (all sides, all views) are getting sick of being asked to vote on who the bad guy is on insider crap like this. They need to work it out and stop whining about pushing themselves and their candidate into the spotlight and then crying about getting blinded by it.

Really?

FF link 726. I actually heard Pee Wee on the radio here in Mass., prattling on about some aspect of the convention. Apparently he has returned from his hiatus in the wilderness destroying Amtrack. I almost fell asleep and crashed into a bridge abuttment at the sound of his slow.... drawling.... zzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzz

he was a target because he now works for fox because on fox........SOMEONE MIGHT ACTUALLY BE WATCHING...........

and..........

Howard Wolfson will never learn.

so what about matthews.........the other night we wouldnt let murphy talk at all and it had nothing TO DO WITH TIME constraints.

and olberman is just a prick to begin with.........

BUT think about this.

a RATINGS PLOW PERHAPS...........

If Oberman and Mathews are commentators, why are tha ancoring the convention coverage? They should be on their own show, not acting like real news people.

I have watched Oberman a few times, but it is hard for me. The guy is so angry. I honestly believe he needs counseling to get past his anger issues.

Mathews is just retarted. The stuff that comes out of his mouth makes my ears bleed. So, I bounce around and catch what I can but mostly read the internet.

Here is the link for Taxman--

"I would say because he is a political figure"

But their job - to cover the convention - had very little to do with the topic of Wolfson.

"If they had been saying "What a wonderful job Howard did on getting Hillary the nomination", it is unlikely he would be whining about being singled out."

Had Hillary gotten the nomination, the topic of Wolfson would have been relevant to Olbermann and Matthews' job of covering the convention.

yes joe..........matthews is a well known shill for barry.........what was it he said not long ago about he gets tingly or something like that when the great messiah speaks.........
damn......when he listens to the messiah speak from the temple tonight he is gonna have to clean his pants out.....

Listen, Keith Dopeyman and old tingly legs are in the grand tradition of Air America and other attempts at a completely biased left wing "news" outlet. They are getting trounced in the ratings by practically every other cable station news or not and in the cable news ratings Fox has double somtimes almost triple MSNBC ratings across all demographics - they even handsomely beat them in the 25-35 demo.

Bottom line is that these clowns will be gone soon and MSNBC will either reinvent or just go away.

I am all for contrary views and robust discussions but these clowns are embarrassing to everyone.

BL2-

Hilarious, here is the full quote:

"I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often."

Thanks, Howie for allowing Fox to illustrate us as a disjointed, petty bitchy party. Way to fall into the trap of allowing them to foment the Democrat disunity and strife narrative. Jackass.

Joe, I think you are splitting hairs in your argument that Wolfson is off-limits as soon as Hillary drops out of the race. This is the Democratic National Convention, not the Obama National Convention, and all national Dem figures (and their handlers/hangers-on) are open game for discussion and comment. Wolfson's candidate was a key speaker at the event, as was that candidate's husband. I stand my position that he is acting like a fairy and should stfu.

I will be shocked if the media coverage of the RNC ends up sticking to narrow coverage of just McCain and whomever his running mate is.

With regard to there being "no crying in politics," these guys aren't politicians, they are supposedly "journalists."

There's a difference between a reporters and TV commentators. Matthews and Olbermann are pundits who run talk shows. They're paid to have an opinion.

MC-Ass,
You think Wolfson started this? This is some how his fault? Fox News are the puppeteers?

Did you miss the 12:05pm post in this thread or are you just a complete lemming?

If that's true, RCade, then MSNBC has lost all credibility as an unbiased news organization. I prefer unbiased coverage where I can still get it. Apparently MSNBC would rather hire a couple of opinionated shmucks to cover the convention than someone who will cover it fairly and not act like a couple of high schoolers.

I am all for contrary views and robust discussions

You are? You spent the better part of your post bitching about "left wing news" and praising the ratings of a right wing news cartel.

I like KO. I've only watched his "Countdown" once in my life--use to listen to his baseball chatter on ESPN Radio all the time though--; anyone that can make both Hillary shills and wingding "conservatives" whine and cry on a daily basis must be doing something right. All I know about Matthews is he gets trounced by John Stewart whenever he comes on to push some gibberish book he "wrote".

8 years ago Murdock decided America needed a right wing biased version of the news. He figured the standard 'opposing views arguing on-air', or 'world news repeating cycle' formats were not good enough. So he made FOX News and populated it with weak minded, LOUD, opinionated, Republican partisan hosts, producers, and directors. It worked. He started raking in the dough and the viewers. About 2 million people--the same 2 million every night--watch FOX. Meanwhile some folks at MSNBC saw this, and as TV execs usually do, tried to copy a "good"(profitable) thing. It worked. MSNBC is growing in ad rev. and viewers every day. Partisan news for better or worse is the now the standard, either get used to it or do like I do and don't watch any of it.

Matthews and Olbermann are pundits who run talk shows. They're paid to have an opinion.

ABSOLUTELY>.........its what we have said about hannity and rush all along and when we say it, we get pounded..........

Wolfson made the only move he had available to him.

After running a disastrous campaign for Hillary Clinton, who had everything going for her before the primary season started, he's a pariah. Who'd want to hire him now in Democratic circles?

Wolfson made the only move he had available to him.

After running a disastrous campaign for Hillary Clinton......AU

Besides, Hillary probably hasn't paid him yet. (And if I were her, I wouldn't)

"Sounds like Wolfson needs to learn that there's no crying in politics."

OOOOOOOOO, tell that to Obama PLEASE!!!!!!! Both of them!

I agree about MSNBC. They made a name for themselves outing the methods and lies of Fixed News, and they are now starting to mirror them on the left.

God, I don't want to watch CNN. Can't we get unbiased programming anywhere?

www.swamppolitics.com

What a bunch of thin skinned bitches. Typical liberals. Tell me about that no crying in politics mantra again!

If you want to know the news you have to watch several news casts, get the different slants on the news and then decide for yourself where the truth lies. Mrs. Sawdust makes fun of me because I watch the news three times a night. She thinks I am silly for doing so, but in the end I make up my own mind. And to me that is a good thing. I choose to be the arbiter of truth in my life, not some retard on MSNBC, CNN or Fox.

I don't think bias is a problem when it's clear. Matthews and Olbermann are not claiming to be unbiased.

There's probably a good argument that a non-pundit ought to be anchoring these nights on MSNBC, but I've always thought that fairness is a more important standard than bias. The Retort's biased, but I aim to be fair.

It's so McCain and Romney can use their "Richard Nixon Metal Detectors" on the beach during their looming retirements from politics.

I can't think of a time when MSNBC has been unbiased. Everyone with a show has an agenda at MSNBC...same with Fox and CNN.

If you want to know the news you have to watch several news casts, get the different slants on the news and then decide for yourself where the truth lies.

Exactly. That's one of the primary reasons I come here. As a right-of-center news consumer, I can actually learn some of the left-of-center behind the scenes thought process by coming to DR and other simlarly lefty sites ... the Hillary vs Obama running gun battles on here through the Spring and early summer were eye-opening, and frankly, entertaining. In the same way watching a guy run balls-first into a gate post is funny, I mean.

I have even reevaluated or slightly modified my views on one or two issues based on things I find on here (although I won't reveal what those positions are for fear of bolstering undeserving egos) And just as often I still mostly think you're all wrong. But retreating to the safe warm womb of sites that simply parrot my own world-view back at me seems like kind of a static and unrewarding option.

I don't know anyone else on earth that could make the Faux News Network actually look "fair and balanced" in comparison, other than these two twerps at Microsoft News.

The Obama tattoos on their foreheads were a dead give-away, though.

I choose to be the arbiter of truth in my life, not some retard on MSNBC, CNN or Fox.
-Sawdust-

From your posts it sounds like the 3 "news" programs are Rush, Hannity, and Savage.

No, Corky, KeithO and ChrisM look objective to comparison with the fools at Fox & Fiends.

Nappyheadedho,

I am a very light blogger in general and post on this site about once a week. I have tried to go on right leaning sites, but just get kicked off. Do you know of any good ones I should visit?

(Left of Center) Ben

From your posts it sounds like the 3 "news" programs are Rush, Hannity, and Savage.

YOU mentioned those guys.

Corky, were those mushroom tattoos?

I thought Mournin' Joe was going to tattoo somebody's forehead with his fist the other day, lmao!

Ben,

The best one I have found is:

www.freeconservatives.com

The forums at www.fuckedcompany.com used to be good, but they got destroyed by the residual vitriole of the 2004 election. I ahve not been there for a while. Plus my company's filtering software blocks the url for some strange reason, so reading and posting there at lunchtime is not possible anymore. :-)

If you want to se what is going on inside the mind of the far right loons you can go to www.rushlimbaughforum.com. I have only posted there a few times. It tends to be more of the one trick pony variety of forum, but there are (i know you find this surprising) some reasonable discussions on there. Kind of like here where threads show hope of normalcy until someone tosses a Molatov cocktail and everything bursts into flames.

Question: You get kicked off righty sites by moderators due to purported violations of TOS, or just because you disagree with people? What sites? Just curious..

Again, I see no place for the comments by Olbermann and Matthews on a supposedly legitimate newscast.

I would agree if it was a newscast, but the guys being mentioned are engaged in commentary, which is different.

So, Oreilly is ok then?

Has anybdody told McCain yet that he has a house in La Jolla?

Alll these guys would rather invent a lot of non-sensical drama rather than discuss issues, because that's work. And really boring for an electorate that expects to be entertained 24/7.
