It's a toss-up for me whether I dislike Cuban-Americans or Iranian exiles more. Admittedly I've only known a few of each but have disliked nearly all of them. Arrogant and self-important, most of them.

As somebody disgusted with the modern Republican party it's good news for me that the Cuban-Americans and their single-issue politics are at last outnumbered by other Hispanics in Florida. I'm sure they voted overwhelmingly for Bush in 2000 and 2004 and look where that got us.

Not to ruin a perfectly good morning of Hispanic bashing and xenophobic fun but most Cubans speak English and virtually all of their kids speak perfectly good English, virtually all are hard working nice people who I am proud to have as neighbors. I used to work right down town Miami in what would be called Little Havana and it was a safe, fun place to be if you weren't an asshole. Sure, if you express disdain for them they will answer in kind but if you are friendly they are friendly. As far as FWTHOM's accusation about Kennedy, a closer look reveals that he told them in advance that he was NOT involving any American military forces of any kind. They decided to go anyway to force his hand. Kennedy rightly figured an invasion of Cuba was not worth a war with the USSR. After the fact Kennedy insisted on taking all the blame for the disaster even though he really was not to blame at all. Go figure. BTW, he inherited the idea of an attack from the Eisenhower administration yet would not allow any of the blame to be shifted to his predecessor.

BTW Cubans have been pretty conservative and have mostly voted Republican...but I like them anyway. I hear many of the younger folks though are beginning to lean towards the Democratic Party.
