After being ribbed by Jay Leno on the Tonight Show about the number of houses he owns, John McCain went back to the POW well rather than reply with substance. Awkward!

I was a POW.
Don't forget: I was a POW.
Yup, a POW, my friends.
That's P for "prisoner," O for "of," W for "War."
Prisioner of War.
Gawd, those Limey prision ships in New York Harbor were a bitch.

Did I mention that I was a POW?

- Bagdad Jurassic John.

Did I mention fags beat on me when I was a POW - that is why I have 7 houses.

That must also be why he has that pouch on the side of his face-to store all the jizz they gave him....

"Number, Verb, POW!"

I was wondering about that pouch. I think they should drill for oil in it. Drill here, drill now.

I tried embedding a vid from YouTube the other day, but it didn't seem to work. What's the deal?

Ness, I think you have to do it in the "additional comments" section.

Taxman, how do you do it?

Darth, just get the embedding code for whatever video you want to post, copy the code and past it in the "additional comments" section.

I really want this to catch on because it could be a lot of fun around here.

Even if there isn't a relevant video, I'm going to post a music vid or something else amusing. After all, it's not like I can use that space to post the entire text of the article or anything...

LOL, whoever posted the Cher as Catwoman thread should have included the "If I Could Turn Back Time" video in their additional comments section.

I know this isn't your cup of tea, but when a prominent liberal dies I'm going to embed "Another one bites the dust"...

OK, I'm not going to do that. But only because I don't know how, nor do I care to learn.

101, you may have just started a new type of flame war. You better start thinking of good videos for when Ted Kennedy dies - maybe "Smoke on the Water" if I may offer a suggestion.

Jay: "So, Senator, what are your plans for the economy?"

McCain: "I was in a POW camp for 5 1/2 years and didn't need money.

Jay: "How would you cure the housing crisis?"

McCain" "When I was in a POW camp I lived in one room.

Jay: "What about the rising influence of Russia?"

McCain" "I was a POW for 5 1/2 years. They weren't."

Jay: "Thank you for coming, Senator"

McCain: "Thanks, Jay. It sure beat being a POW for 5 1/2 years"

FF for AU

McCain" "I was a POW for 5 1/2 years. They weren't."

Yeah, I'm gonna have to second that FF.

And a "Sad But True" flag.

"Listen, my friends, I'm not going to talk about my five and a half years in one room without a kitchen table and without a chair because it would be unseemly to do so."

"I am not going to make personal attacks, because it would be unseemly to do so"

The Fighting Hellfish!

Politically Opportunistic Whore

Can't blame McBush, his POW status is about the only issue he isn't completely wrong on. His disconnect from average Americans makes him completely unqualified to be president during a time of economic crisis for most of the working class. Elect him and the country will be bankrupt by the end of his first term.

Anyone remember the Jib Jab video from the 2004 election where they kept having Kerry go "I won three Purple Hearts!"?

Every time I hear McCain bring up his time as a POW I picture him in Kerry's place in that video.

Rudy G's entire campaign, "A noun, a verb and 9/11."
John McCain's entire campaign, "A noun, a verb, Obama's a terrorist and I was a POW."
Keep it simple for the simpletons who make up your base.

That was hilariously awkward. "In all seriousness, Jay, I didn't have a kitchen chair for five and a half years. I didn't have a waffle iron! For the love of sweet Jesus, Jay, I had no juicer!" McCain needs to take a little time off from the campaign trail -- this constant POW card stuff shows how far he's off his game. I'd recommend Hawaii, but that place is foreign and exotic.

Did I mention that I was a POW?

- John McBush.

he needs a slight change of topic, how about discussing his 1973 interview where John McCain claimed some of the men involved in the enhanced interrogations he endured in Vietnam were homosexuals who got a sadistic thrill out of it.

that should increase his popularity with the gay hating fundie crowd! couple that with a few sucking pix and that would give him a 12 point lead! (unless he is the sucker)

If I were a Republican, I'd be worried about McCain, his 'maverickness' and his POW criticism shield. An incredibly stubborn person who's made himself immune to criticism is a dangerous combination.

How long do you think he's going to keep these far right social positions that he only adopted to win the primary? That he's going to need to shed to placate the country when he starts bombing Iran? And what do you think he's going to say when you complain? That's right, he was a POW, so STFU.

I guess it's an all-purpose excuse: I don't know what kind of car I drive, or how many houses I have because I was in prison 5-1/2 years.
How about: I dumped my injured first wife and married a meal ticket and helped out Charles Keating and flip flopped on every principle I ever had because I was in prion for 5-1/2 years!

do you know what they call a man claiming to be a prisoner for 5-1/2 years,
an ex-con!

If Nancy Reagan thinks you treated somebody badly, it's a safe bet that you did.

My friends... I believe McCain's response is called a deflection.

Senator McCain: Jay asked you how many freaking houses you owned (and jokingly, I might add - lighten up!), and you went on and on with the weepy shit about being in a prison cell for 5 1/2 years, and serving America, and Cindy being in Georgia, and keeping Americans in their homes.

Why? Because you know, deep down in your heart, that you really don't have a good explanation for your lack of awareness of how many houses you own.

Is this a big deal in the scheme of things? Of course not.

But that answer was totally lame.

But that answer was totally lame.

I don't think it was AS lame as many of you do, but I do believe it was a cop out.

That being said, the audience seemed to appreciate the answer.

This thing is sticking to McCain. Look for the Dems to keep it coming.

Cindy: Hi, John, where should we go for dinner?
John: I don't know, but I sure as hell don't want to go to a little prison cell for 5 1/2 years. We'll never get a table!

McCain's kid: Hey, Dad, where have you been?
John: I was in a prison cell for 5 1/2 years, gawddammit! And it was HORRIBLE! Stop asking!
Kid: No, I meant just now.
John: Oh, I was taking out the trash.

Real estate agent: And this condo has 3,000 square feet. Would you like to see the bedrooms?
John: Not if they're like the prison cell I was in for 5 1/2 years! Thanks a lot for bringing that up again! Gook!

FF!

I find it disgusting that you Dems are making fun of a former POW. Further, I disagree that there is even a POW card - that is like saying that he played the 'college card' or something. It was an experience where he served his coutnry and was beaten for 5 years straight as a result. His POW experience made him what he is today - helps him to define evil because he has seen it first hand. For the Dems to make gay jokes or try to degrade his POW experience is just plain out sick. You bitch about paying for healthcare and gas - maybe if you were a POW for 5 years, you could get some perspective on what really matters in life.

Keep in mind he was a POW 36 years ago and has lived the life of the rich since.

I think the POW dog don't hunt no more.

Oh and Obama is not rich????

But only because I don't know how, nor do I care to learn.

"Ignorance Is Bliss" has long been a conservative theme.

JACQUE STRAP y'all gave up the right to be outraged when you encouraged the Swift Boat Liars to attack John Kerry.
BTW, how does his experience fix our economy or fix our energy problems???
When a candidate uses something like his experience as a POW as a justification for being completely out of touch with average Americans then tough nookies if he or you don't like folks poking fun at him.

YES...YES, We KNOW you were a "POW" for 5 1/2 years!
Now tell me something I don't know !!... Like "how your going to build the Border Fence in YOUR first 100 days"..... NOW that would be a shocker!!

The "talking heads" claim that they rarely hear McCain refer to his time as a POW..... "WHAT"!!... He refers to it every chance he gets.... AND... doesn't get.

Oh and Obama is not rich????

Not under McCain's definition of rich.

JACQUE STRAP y'all gave up the right to be outraged when you encouraged the Swift Boat Liars to attack John Kerry.

That's funny - I voted for Kerry and was outraged when he was attacked as well. There are such things as right and wrong, and no - those definitions don't change when you flip the target from a D to an R. What you and the Dems are doing right now is sickening and you should be able to see that if you weren't such a horrible human being.

BTW, how does his experience fix our economy or fix our energy problems

How does Obama's and how does that relate to the Dems denigrating his sacrafice for his country? You are a sick individual. It is because of people like John McCain (and his familiy) and the sacrifices they have made for our freedom that you can be an open lesbian. You should thank him every day for what he has done for you.

It's hard to take too seriously someone calling himself Jacque Strap, but still, as long as I don't get too close (nothing personal, Mr. Schlong Hammock)... yeah, I hear what you're saying.

Here's the deal. I respect McCain's service, and I can never begin to grasp what it would be like to be a POW. But shut up already! My father in law fought in the Battle of the Bulge and almost got killed. My cousin got injured by an IED in Iraq and went on to lead his squadron to safety. I'm proud as punch of both of 'em. But neither one of them brings up their war troubles when the topic ain't about war.

I'm just sayin'.

LOL...the resentment here is hilarious.

Kerry was shown to be a supreme phoney when the swift boat vets outed him.

Try as folks may, they cannot disqualify McCain's service, but only use gutter language to try and impeach it.

Nice try losers! Once a loser, always a loser!

Theo Nebs,

Did I mention that I was a POW?

Sicerely

John McBush.

But neither one of them brings up their war troubles when the topic ain't about war.

I'm just sayin'.

Posted by cbob

That is because neither of them is a political opportunist whore.

My family never discusses the wars that have been fought in either, but McBush knows that it is the only issue that he has that cannot be attacked by Obama.

I'm beginning to think McCain is a little retarded.

POW, Community Organizer, which one IS more qualified? Answer that and you will be THE Campaign Manager for the very next candidate for President! Asinine statements become, surprisingly, just asinine statements!

Pick-on one, pick-out the other, each has valid questions to be answered, but one is hiding, the real question is which is which? We should actually expect more from our elected leaders! Aw, what the hell!

Belittling becomes a way of life, doesn't it?

Uh Oh! Somebody's still smarting from the Cynthia McKinney exchange.

all of us have older relatives that repeat the same story, we politely listen and offer our love. we should do that to McCain as well.

to some, this behavior is senility, maybe. but we shouldn't make fun of McCain, just don't vote for him!

Not to belittle his service contribution but he is becoming a one trick pony.

People are asking Obama for specifics on his plans, what are McCain's specfics? Has anyone heard any that I may not have not heard?

When the Great One uses his standard I have a funny name and uh I am young and lack experience and uh did you know I am black BS, it is not the same?

Democrats aren't the ones belittling McCain's POW status. He is by using it as a get-out-of-gaffe card all the time.

Well, he'd better stop.

If he oversells this he opens himself up to a "swiftboating" just like Kerry did by overselling his tenure in 'Nam.

If McCain wants to make his POW time a central plank to his campaign, then he opens himself up to the most callous criticisms of his time as a POW.

Jeff- I hope mccain doesn't get swiftboated.

However, it IS fair to say that being a POW doesn't automatically grant him the presidency, as he seems to be assuming it does.

McCain is turning into a guiliani one trick pony.

Jacque (We Murricans say Jock) Strap needs to understand that underscoring the ludicrous nature of McCain's repeatedly bringing up his POW status hardly belittles any REAL service to the nation.

Onna was right: what you call someone who served five years is ex-con, not president.

But getting caught when you crashed the airplane, like getting your butt blown off when a shell lands in your desert latrine, is hardly an act of heroism. It's not something you do voluntarily, like pulling your wounded buddies out of the line of fire. Or, for that matter John Kerry's heroism in Southeast Asia. herm

However, it IS fair to say that being a POW doesn't automatically grant him the presidency, as he seems to be assuming it does.

I only casually follow the primaries. It's most nonsensical bullshit on both sides. That said, your comments regarding McCain playing the POW card are not new.

Regardless, if he is doing so, he looks as pathetic as Kerry did with that false salute and "reporting for duty" intro that marred the DNC convention.

Downplaying it garners genuine sympathy, particularly when its raised in a negative light. Playing it almost as often as Obama plays the race card is counter-productive IMO.

Let me tell you, jeff...I don't know If I've changed, or if the situation has gotten worse...

But I can't stand politics anymore. I'm inches away from dropping out.

Alexandrite if You do drop out You lose Your right to bitch and moan. I always vote (Cause I love to bitch) if I didn't vote what right would I have to bitch and moan?? If one does not vote they don't matter/Count.

Larry

"Alexandrite if You do drop out You lose Your right to bitch and moan."

Nonsense. You've bought into the myth that voting every 4 years is democracy. That's a sham. There are other forms of engaging in democratic politics.

Doesn't it seem strange to anyone besides me that Obama showed his statesmanship when he visited all those countries(and without all the air power, bullet proof vest and without 50 soldiers while he took a "leisurely walk" as McCain says he did) and Obama did not get a bump in the polls?
Or when he has drawn thousands of people to hear him and cheer him(and McCain visits a grocery store where they sell sausage) and Obama gets no bump?
When Obama chooses Joe Biden as a running mate and gets no bump?
When he has shown himself to be extremely intelligent and McCain was at the bottom of his class, and Obama got no bump?
When he actually has more credentials than McCain and still gets no bump?
McCain was a prisoner of war.and for that he desrves our thanks and respect, but that in itself does not qualify him to be president any more than any other tortured vet.
I do not believe the reason is that Obama is black. Why would he draw such large crowds?
I don't know why, but something doesn't feel right to me.Has the election already been decided?

Regardless, if he is doing so, he looks as pathetic as Kerry did with that false salute and "reporting for duty" intro that marred the DNC convention.

That salute was excruciating. Along with that weird remark he made, all self-satisfied about being "born in the West Wing" of his hospital, I was really worried that we had chosen a dud.
