Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A new ad from Barack Obama's campaign running in Georgia links John McCain to the infamous Jack Abramoff scandal that ended several Republicans' political careers. The ad suggests that McCain did a favor for Ralph Reed, now one of his fundraisers, by not calling him to testify about his association to Abramoff.

Vacations over.

It's about time.

McCain's still kept wraps on 95% of the documents from his Indian Affairs Committee investigation of the Abramoff scandal.

Folks say what he's kept close to the vest could sink most of the GOP in Washington.

Did his add include the Senate Majority Leader's ties and monies received? Or does Reid get a pass for his outright lies because of his party affiliation?

In any case, none of this really matters. McCain is a shoe-in, Obama has lost already. The u.s. electorate feels more affinity with a senile old lying millionnaire than with a self-made (OMG!) black man. Aint gonna happen.

Hell, the dems couldn't even get elected when the retard came back for a second term. It's almost starting to look as if the dems are a creation of the reps, just to make it look like a 2 party system.

Ah, the politics of Change.

"Ah, the politics of Change."

Loose change.
Oh, my friends, I'm only kidding.

As long as they keep running as Republican-lite, they're going nowhere.

And, if they don't run as Republican-lite, but as Democrat-left, then they're going nowhere even quicker.

Giving up already? I thought you guys had this one in the bag.

"As long as they keep running as Republican-lite, they're going nowhere."

Running conservative dems (republican-lites) sure helped them win a few seats in congress.

I'll bet a Fact Check report comes out about this one...

"And, if they don't run as Republican-lite, but as Democrat-left, then they're going nowhere even quicker."

I don't think so. They have to give people a reason to vote for them. Opinion polls consistently show the public to be more progressive on issues like the war, military spending, healthcare, taxes, etc.

Did his add include the Senate Majority Leader's ties and monies received? Or does Reid get a pass for his outright lies because of his party affiliation?

So, you're suggesting that Abramoff raised money for Reid or any other Democrat?

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!

BTW it's 'ad', and Delay, House Speaker lost his seat over it. Delay and Reed were in it up to their eyeballs with Abramoff.

hope Obama does an ad on the Libby's of the Republican Party, too...

Libby questioned on forged letter linking Saddam to 9/11

rawstory.com

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) issued letters of inquiry Wednesday to Vice President Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, regarding a forged letter linking Saddam Hussein to the 9/11 attacks

Does the average American voter remember Abramoff? I mean we are all political junkies here, but what about those that aren't? Did Abramoff make a big enough splash for this to stick?

Like this one...

An Obama ad uses dated and out of context quotes to portray McCain as clueless on the economy.

Boo-yah!! Time for the gloves to come off.

First thing I said when I saw this link was, "Oh yeah... abramoff." I think even people who pay attention have forgotten about Abramoff... this type of Ad plays to DKos and TPM bloggers, who obviously are still undecided :)

Distorting McCain's Remarks

An Obama ad uses dated and out of context quotes to portray McCain as clueless on the economy.

Sounds like Obama is more of the same old politics, running a low road campaign.

Didn't Obama get his panties all in a twist when it was said he didn't visit wounded troops because he couldn't bring his cameras? And then Lefties everywhere pointed out different outlets saying that wasn't the case?

So Are they going to comment on Obama's false ad now?

"So Are they going to comment on Obama's false ad now?"

Prove it is false. That has been the stock answer when false accusations were made agains Dems so turnabout is fair play.

"An Obama ad uses dated and out of context quotes to portray McCain as clueless on the economy."

As did Tim Russert just before his death. Are you saying Russert was unethical?

"Didn't Obama get his panties all in a twist when it was said he didn't visit wounded troops because he couldn't bring his cameras?"
--ROB_THE_A_HOLE

Yep. He looked down his nose and pretended to be above it all.

From McCain campaign:

"Barack Obama's ad is ridiculous. Because of John McCain, corruption was exposed and people like Jack Abramoff went to jail."

However, if Barack Obama wants to have a discussion about truly questionable associations, let's start with his relationship with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, at whose home Obama's political career was reportedly launched.

Mr. Ayers was a leader of the Weather Underground, a terrorist group responsible for countless bombings against targets including the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon and numerous police stations, courthouses and banks. In recent years, Mr. Ayers has stated, 'I don't regret setting bombs I feel we didn't do enough.'

The question now is, will Barack Obama immediately call on the University of Illinois to release all of the records they are currently withholding to shed further light on Senator Obama's relationship with this unrepentant terrorist?"

Good for Team McCain for having the cajones for discussing this.

Read the fact check article... its link is in this thread, and their is also a thread to it on the back page now. Read it and see how they take old quotes and ridiculously out of context quotes to portray McCain as some cheerleader for this economy...

As did Tim Russert just before his death. Are you saying Russert was unethical?

If Tim Russert used dated and out of context quotes on this same subject when talking to McCain then he too was distorting the truth and was being unethical...

Good for Team McCain for having the cajones for discussing this.

I was wondering when Ayers was going to come back into the picture...

"Good for Team McCain for having the cajones for discussing this. "

Fine. Let's talk about McCain cheating on his sick and crippled wife and abandoning her for a young, rich mealticket.

He needs to be beaten with the Ayers thing.

Ruthlessly.

Over and over and over.

I was wondering when Ayers was going to come back into the picture...

He has been mentioned a couple of times so far, but he is another one that I think only we political junkies know about.

WHOA!!!!

I agree, but one problem with it for Obama might be that this guy was supposedly a terrorist... I don't know much about him, but I hear "terrorist" and then that he's associated with Obama and it makes me want to look into it more. I know it got brought up in one of the primary debates, but I didn't see any campaign commericials on it. It certainly sounds like from that press release that we're going to see an Ayers commercial or two. And we all know how the public acts... a good portion of people just believe what they see in those types of commericials without ever looking into it.

And it thrills me to no end that the most vicious partisans here have votes that won't affect the outcome in their states.

You have said this at least 10 times by my count which makes me think you've probably said it even more...

So what if I decide to vote for McCain, but I'm in Jersey... are you saying you only vote if you know your state will go to that candidate? Or that you vote for which ever candidate will likely win your state? That's a fucked up way to vote...

By all means!

They are competing for POTUS, for Pete's sake!.

McCain's infidelities should be part of public discourse as equally Obama's relations with unrepentant, Marxist terrorists.

Apply the microscope, but do so equally.

I could be wrong, but I suspect that Null isn't happy with my endorsement of his sentiment.

Rob, put the word "terrorist" with a picture of a burning building and you have automatic fear factor.

I think you pretty much wrote the McCain campaigns commercial right there...

Talk about Obama and Ayers with pictures of destroyed buildings and explosions in the background... I think it will cost him votes... the question is how many?

Nulli,

My aplogies for mischaracterizing you on this.

(I am serious)

You would be wrong. If the Republicans want to throw the kitchen sink, the Dems should do the same.

I think we've hardly seen "Kitchen sink" tactics yet...

When they mirror the Henry Ford jr commericials, then we'll have the sink...

""If Tim Russert used dated and out of context quotes on this same subject when talking to McCain then he too was distorting the truth and was being unethical..."

From Fact Check here are the "dated and out of context quotes". They are from...OMG!!!! seven whole months ago. OUt of context my butt. He speaks about "pretty good prosperous time, with low unemployment and low inflation" all of which is bull shit and was bull shit back in January. I don't know why Fact Check claimed this was "distorting" McCain's words because after going through them they certainly do not distort anything.

"The ad opens with video of McCain saying, "I don't believe we're headed into a recession." But the clip comes from a response to a question at a Republican primary debate in South Carolina back in January."

"The second and third quotes the Obama campaign uses from McCain are more misleading. The ad shows McCain saying: "[T]here's been great progress economically."

"McCain: I think you could argue that Americans overall are better off, because we have had a pretty good prosperous time, with low unemployment and low inflation and a lot of good things have happened. A lot of jobs have been created."

No apology necessary, Jeff.

"Talk about Obama and Ayers with pictures of destroyed buildings and explosions in the background.."

How about pictures of Carol McCain in crutches or a wheelchair, superimposed with John McCain laughing it up with Cindy? You guys want an issue-free campaign? Let's play hardball.

Cool, Null.

You raise an excellent point regarding McCain's infidelities.

Had Obama not shat upon Rev. wright, he'd have a much-deserved advantage on this issue.

Regardless - my apology more specifically pertains toward painting you as a partisan hack, when you were the first (that I witnessed) to name an Obama-cultist for what he is.

Don't get me wrong...you are a hack on numerous issues - just not this one.

The fact of the matter is that negative politics work and Obama has abandoned his 'politics of change' message already as he is getting his head kicked in over the last month and the Reps haven't even gone negative yet.

Oh and I find it funny when McCain never took a dime from Abramoff and Obama got huge contributions and perhaps even money for his house from convicted felon Rezko. Wonder when that commercial comes out - I assume shortly after the the Dem convention.

McCain in a landslide....

What else do you want to blame him for?

He was also present for the demise of the USSR.

Care to 'blame' him for that as well?

One spot like this is enough to sink McCain - Bush III

Obama is also left of NARAL on allowing babies to die after a botched aboriton. They did not take a position on the Senate BAIPA law.

Obama voted NO in Illinois on the same law.

Even though one of the measures had the identical language as the one the US Senate voted 98-0 in favor. He voted NO. he voted Present for the other measure. The man is heartless.

And Barack Obama, who has not been operating a national political campaign as long as Clinton, is halfway there, banking just over $100,000 from the firm's attorneys." rawstory.com

In February 2004, U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, sent a fund-raising letter with the "alarming news" that "right-wing politicians" had passed a law stopping doctors from stabbing half-born babies in the neck with scissors, suctioning out their brains and crushing their skulls.
Michelle called partial-birth abortion "a legitimate medical procedure," and wouldn't supporters please pay $150 to attend a luncheon for her husband, who would fight against "cynical ploy[s]" to stop it?

Does it?

Maybe you will provide proof?

Posted by Custer at 2008-08-21 03:37 PM | Reply |

Look at the post you lifted my quote from. Your proof is there.

Are you that stupid?

McCain wasn't subjected to torture. It's now called 'enhanced interrogation.'

In all the discussion of John McCain's recently recovered memory of a religious epiphany in Vietnam, one thing has been missing. The torture that was deployed against McCain emerges in all the various accounts. It involved sleep deprivation, the withholding of medical treatment, stress positions, long-time standing, and beating. Sound familiar?

According to the Bush administration's definition of torture, McCain was therefore not tortured.

Cheney denies that McCain was tortured; as does Bush. So do John Yoo and David Addington and George Tenet. In the one indisputably authentic version of the story of a Vietnamese guard showing compassion, McCain talks of the agony of long-time standing. A quarter century later, Don Rumsfeld was putting his signature to memos lengthening the agony of "long-time standing" that victims of Bush's torture regime would have to endure. These torture techniques are, according to the president of the United States, merely "enhanced interrogation."

No war crimes were committed against McCain. And the techniques used are, according to the president, tools to extract accurate information. And so the false confessions that McCain was forced to make were, according to the logic of the Bush administration, as accurate as the "intelligence" we have procured from "interrogating" terror suspects. Feel safer?

The cross-in-the-dirt story - although deeply fishy to any fair observer - is in the realm of the unprovable. But the actual techniques used on McCain, and the lies they were designed to legitimize, are a matter of historical record. And the government of the United States now practices the very same techniques that the Communist government of North Vietnam once proudly used against American soldiers. When they are used against future John McCains, the victims will know, in a way McCain didn't, that their own government has no moral standing to complain.

Now the kicker: in the Military Commissions Act, McCain acquiesced to the use of these techniques against terror suspects by the CIA. And so the tortured became the enabler of torture. Someone somewhere cried out in pain for the same reasons McCain once did. And McCain let it continue.

These are the prices people pay for power.

andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com

I don't care what they call it now. When McCain was on the recieving end it was called torture.

"Obama has announced he picked his VP and he was going to a meeting with Kaine.."

Just a thought If Obama selects Clinton as a running mate, and further assuming he wins the election does that mean Bill will be spraying his DNA all over the oral office again.

And I thought only the RIGHT did negative campaigning!

Pancho needs to walk a mile in the shoes of that man and his companions, he'll soon understand what 'squealing like a pig', really means! Live it, if you dare, before making ignorant, assinine statements, you don't have a clue about!

Those apes INVENTED torture, receiving their training, from those same RUSSIANs you've spent the last few weeks fawning over!

Good thing you have the right to say whatever bull-shit comes to mind, cause you've definately proven yourself a complete and unadulterated asshole without capacity for developing an actual thought process! There IS a medical cure though, try it!

Let's talk about McCain cheating on his sick and crippled wife and abandoning her for a young, rich mealticket.

The facts are out there, and nobody really cares. All people carry the scars of failed relationships; if anything, harping on this will earn sympathy for McCain.

And yes, you are jealous of an attrative spouse with a lot of money.

BTW, did you think this was an important issue when John Kerry ditched his old hag to marry a rich mealticket?

Nothing false about it.

McCain is a shit-bag and it's going to be televised.

Rob still rehashing BS claims. The McCain camp had an attack ad whether Obama went or not. And as Rob knows well Obama didn't go because his 2 star retired general aide wasn't allowed to go.

Ralph Reed and Abramoff were partners in crime. Reed is raising money for McCain. Where's the difficulty in making a connection?

It would serve some of the uneducated Rushbots well to watch this:

Capitol Crimes - The Abramoff Scandal: NOW with Bill Moyer

The documentary I linked above should make anyone - left or right - sick.

This is not how America is supposed to work.

Reed and Abramoff visited the White House hundreds of times peddling influence, and they're both greedy bastards.

Yeah and Abramoff was an equal opportunity peddler with money going to Dems and Repubs.

Abramoff and Reed and Delay had a scheme going to make the GOP the only party in power forever.

I'm not watching your link until you watch "Capitol Crimes" I linked. You need to educate yourself before you speak.

The point of this thread is that Reed is now raising money for McCain. Reed should be in prison with Abramoff.

You don't know the half of the Abramoff story. Heck, we only know 5% because McCain's refused to release 95% of the findings of the Abramoff scandal.

"Reps haven't even gone negative yet."
Good one! You really mean we ain't seen nothing yet, right? I love that scary Jaws type music I heard on a McCain ad against Obama yesterday. It was as funny as the old SNL campaign ads where the candidates accuse each other of murder and the like. Sadly the real ads are not far removed from the spoofs.

Everyone - right and left - should watch this. This is not how America is supposed to work:

Capitol Crimes - The Abramoff Scandal - NOW with Bill Moyer

Urging people to view anything associated with Bill Moyer is not a very good way of being taken seriously.

maybe not for you PINCHE. You only get news from one side.

Bill Moyer's credibility has never been questioned.

Once you get off of dialup you might want to watch this. It should piss you off even though you're a right winger.

I'd say Bill Moyer wins pal.
