Presidential candidate Ralph Nader, unimpressed by the crop of supposed finalists to be Barack Obama's running mate, said that he expects him to pick Hillary Clinton. "He just has to swallow hard and do what JFK did," said Nader.

JFK was assassinated. Not the best comparison, Nader.

All the chatter about the veep choice is just background noise. There's nothing going on right now, so this gets a lot of attention, but in the end it's meaningless.

People vote for the candidate, not his running mate.

And then after the election is over the Talking Heads will come back and chatter about "what went wrong? why didn't the veep candidate help the election?"

Same old crap, just another election cycle

as hard as it would be to stomach either Hillary or Gore would cinch the election - but so much for "Change"...

Who cares what Nader says?

Who cares what Nader says?

About .01% of our population.

You just never know what a candidate will do. What seens logical us outsiders isn't always logical to the candidate.

I'd be thrilled to death if he picked Hillary. So would 18 million other voters ~ which is a statistic that's hard to ignore when it comes to winning the election.

I also think Obama, once in office, has enough self-confidence and presence to overcome the popular notion that he'd intimidated by the Clintons. I think he's smart enough to draw a line in the sand and the Clintons are smart enough to stay on the other side.

Plus I've always liked the idea of using Bill Clinton as a roving (no pun intended) ambassador. Like him or not, when Clinton turnes it on he can charm the wings off a fly.

I think sometimes we forget that Obama is a consumate and polished politician whose primary objective is to win this election.

If he thinks Hillary is the way go, then it will be Hillary.

I've been thinking about it and I am thinking I agree with Ralph on this. I think it will be one of the big surprises of the campaign and a good decision on Obama's part. I hope I'm right. We'll probably all know soon.

Clinton might be a smart pick to win the election, but would she be the smart pick to govern effectively? The Clintons bring a giant rolling drama with them everywhere they go, and the Obama Administration would be tasked with managing two of them.

If he goes with Clinton, I hope that he and Hillary have a much better working relationship than it appears from the outside.

That and a rabid supporter might just try to assassinate Obama so Hillary can be President.

If he goes with Clinton, I hope that he and Hillary have a much better working relationship than it appears from the outside.

I am not so worried about Hillary as I am Bubba.

Bill Clinton certainly seems like he wants to get along:

Bill Clinton refuses to say Barack Obama is 'ready' for White House

Biden said last night that he was not the guy. Could be blowing smoke.

After the election Hilary could jetison Bill and voila...problem solved. He's got it coming anyway.

But then again, he backed off that statement this morning.

firstread.msnbc.msn.com

Just when I thought Nader couldn't make himself more irrelevant. Is anyone dumb enough to think that Obama wants Bill Clinton anywhere near his campaign? Or for the next 4 or 8 years?

How can Obama bring "change" and "hope" and "bunnies" to Washington if he's going to surround himself with the exact same people we've always had in Washington?

"He's got it coming anyway."

Holy shit ! Bizarro world.

"He just has to swallow hard "

LOL...Sorry...I just found that amusing.

I wonder if news that McCain just took a 5 point lead over him in the polls secured Hillary's VP spot...

www.nytimes.com

This is a must-read. Has anybody posted it as a potential Headline yet?

Maureen must hope she is wrong, but as always there's a grain or two of truth in there.

KERRIN Hilary has issues over which she would be justified in divorcing bill but that still doesn't make his impeachment anything except the result of a 70 million dollar witch hunt. He was a good president but an awful husband apparently.

Here's another thought...

Obama right now is falling in the polls... McCain is making a comeback. If he picks Hillary and surges ahead, and goes on to a landslide victory, doesn't Hillary then get a lot of credit? Wouldn't her supporters then expect a major voice in the Administration? That she would take a role like Cheney did and not like a Quayle or Gore?

I doubt Obama and his supporters would like that in the slightest, but I would think that if she weren't a strong voice in the Obama presidency her supporters would bail on him.

Nader does not know shit...

Only about six people know and they are not talking.

I seriously doubt it is Clinton tho... too much baggage.

Remember the old VP adage "do no harm".

Personally, I find it hard to believe the polls are so close at this point. It is unbelievable to me that anyone is still buying this McBush not-so-straight-talking Bullshit.

I am very disappointed in America. I was expecting a Democratic landslide after the last 8 years. I guess that just shows the POWER of disinformation and the power this Administration has gained over the media and information in general. Or the power of the Democrats to fuck up their own wet dream.

Obama already has one strong woman telling him what to do, I doubt he'd want to make it two.

However, with the fact that the 15 point advantage that so many of his supporters guaranteed us would happen after he won the nomination never materializing, and with the lack of any excitement or obvious advantage to any of the other VP's mentioned, the one candidate who would create a new enthusiasm among voters he needs to reach is.... ta da! Ms Hillary.

If Obama needs to "swallow hard", there are several of his most ardent supporters around here who could show him how.

I am very disappointed in America.

Apparently Drudge cares what Nader has to say.

Fuck that's funny...

i think you are right though, especially about how most of the VP candidates getting the talk (besides Clinton and few really darkhorse candidates) are boring. I don't see Biden giving him some huge bump in the polls that McCain couldn't counter when his pick comes out...

Call the skycaps!!!!!

"That and a rabid supporter might just try to assassinate Obama so Hillary can be President."

If by rabid supporter you mean someone hired by the Clintons then I agree.

He was a good president but an awful husband apparently.

Difficult to stomach for some people.

"Or the power of the Democrats to fuck up their own wet dream."

WOW...Donnerboy has been taking smart pills! I wonder if he looked back and realized that they have only elected ONE president since 1976, with Perot's help, and even HE never got 50% of the vote. He' was also the ONLY democrat to be REelected since FDR in 1940. I guess Donnerboy is realizing that maybe, just MAYBE, something is wrong with their candidates and/or politics????

LOL... yeah... he loves that she let's him fuck other women and doesn't see him for months at a time. She loves that his name made her the most powerful woman in America.

win-win.

I dunno.... thinking around the water cooler here is:

If Obama picks either Clinton or Gore, McCain walks away with the whole enchilada.

Myself, I would not be pleased by this. But I would not be pleased by an Obama presidency either.

McCain's out of his mind. Obama's a freshman.

Yep, I'm sticking to voting principle and writing my own damn name in.

LUR '08: Damn skippy I'll rip you off of every red cent I can. But at least I'm being honest about it.

News Flash: Obama's V.P choice has been confirmed by the MSM as being Jessie Jackson, Hymie town will never be the same but before Jackson can accept he has to go dig up the N word that was buried as he is still using it...

What scares me is that McCain's negative ads (think Rove ala Steve Schmidt) have cut Obama's lead in half just in the past week.

Granted, that's only in the polls. The computer models, which are more accurate and non-emotional still show that Obama is going to win. 55-45

Still, Obama needs to start sucking the oxygen out of the McCain campaign and stop relying on the notion that voters are suddenly going to see the light. They aren't!

"Apparently Drudge cares what Nader has to say."

Not really, it was just a good thread to talk about the possibility of an Obama/Clinton ticket. Nader emphasizes his own insignificance by speculating about Obama's VP pick. Anyone speculating about Nader's? Has he already chosen? Does anyone even care.

Great...do we all have to KISS his Big Black ASS now?

Now how many of you people actually believe Hillary would sit in the background and follow orders and keep her mouth shut as a VP.

The precedent has already been set. She is driven and since she can't make it on talent, she will try to make it on subterfuge. That's the kind of person she is. Evil.

If he picks her, it will be his first huge mistake.

-That's the kind of person she is. Evil.

Huzzah fer the simpletons!

Where would the Dark Ages or the Gulags be without them?

"Kinda funny, in a quaint, creepily clownish sort of way, how the VRWC paranoia propaganda still clings to the weakest minds among us."

I find it very funny that you don't realize your Hillary worship is seen by everyone else as creepy, clownish and weak minded.

Obama won't pick Hillary as VP because along with her comes Bill, and the investigations into his financial dealings associated with the construction of his Arkansas presidential library -- which ended up dying down when she became irrelevant in the race -- would reignite and gain traction if she re-enters the race as a running mate.

All the talk about Obama getting the Vince Foster treatment is just prattle. But the issues with having Bill associated with the race are for real. Just ask his (once-in-the-lead) wife.

If he picks her, it will be his first huge mistake.

He has already made a few, and naming Hillary wouldn't make that list anyway assuming Bubba spends the next 4 months or so out of the lime-light.

Granted, that's only in the polls. The computer models, which are more accurate and non-emotional still show that Obama is going to win. 55-45

LOL, if you want an accurate picture of the current state of affairs, electoral-vote.com is still the best representation. This shows the race a dead heat, but it really isn't once VA goes for McCain. Actually, I think this is Obama's best hope as to how the election actually turns out as I still see Obama losing in a landslide similar to Mondale. The more the world sees.hears.reads about Obama, the less they like him - that is an undeniable fact. I see Obama taking a 5 point lead for about a week after the Dem convention and then getting absolutely rolled after the Rep convention and TRUE NEGATIVE ads by the 527's. Obama's only hope is to pick a very popular guy from Ohio and then hope like hell that there aren't any attack ads against him...fat chance....

"Obama won't pick Hillary as VP because along with her comes Bill, and the investigations into his financial dealings associated with the construction of his Arkansas presidential library -- which ended up dying down when she became irrelevant in the race -- would reignite and gain traction if she re-enters the race as a running mate."

I would say that is the strongest argument against Hilary.
It's also indicative of an Obama weakness, his unwillingness to use information like that against an opponent...thus far. He could have won the nomination earlier, I think, if he had wanted to use that info.

LOL... yeah... he loves that she let's him fuck other women and doesn't see him for months at a time. She loves that his name made her the most powerful woman in America.

Uh, yeah, who needs a policy wonk around when you've already got FISA, off-shore drilling, hope and change?

Dems are desparate. McCain just passed Obama in the latest electoral college polls. Half the country hates Hillary and the other half doesn't trust Obama.

Insane. Mondale was running against every trend in 1984 in the early years of the "Reagan revolution." Obama's the opposite -- party ID and many other demographic and electoral shifts are in his favor.

Self retorting "retart"

Here's the other problem I have with Hillary being VP, and I'd like to see Corky seriously address it.

Hillary burned her bridges during the primary when she attacked Obama. Multiple instances, but I'm thinking specifically of the "And the skies will open, and a light will shine down, and everything will be perfect" speech. Hillary insulted the core of Obama's campaign numerous times.

Do you think the GOP has forgotten about that? Don't you think they will turn that into a primetime TV commercial and run it for months? How do you think Americans will react to that, seeing Obama's own VP on TV, saying why Obama shouldn't be President?

How does Hillary make that 180 without getting whiplash and giving the GOP all the anti-Obama material they need?
Sorry, I think that Hillary rulled herself out for VP when she went negative. She should have dropped out as soon as she was mathematically eliminated instead of dragging Obama through the mud.

"Sorry, I think that Hillary rulled herself out for VP when she went negative. She should have dropped out as soon as she was mathematically eliminated instead of dragging Obama through the mud."

Why? She doesn't want him to win. She wants him to lose so she can run again in four years. She isn't even going to say she doesn't want to be VP. Let some people feel slighted if she isn't asked. Everything she's done makes sense.

Ridiculous.

Every Party campaign produces some minor antipathy that produces some talking points that can be used by the other Party.

Imagine, if you must, the tidbits Dems could harp on with a McCain/Romney ticket.

Hillary has been more gracious and worked just as hard as any other contender for this nominee. And, considering that Obama was the first to go negative on her right after the first debate, your revisionist history could use some finessing.

-Obama's the opposite -- party ID and many other demographic and electoral shifts are in his favor.

Which should have produced, according to many here, a current advantage of some 15 points, as promised.

Wha' happen'd?

-She isn't even going to say she doesn't want to be VP.

"You can satisfy some of the fools some of the time, but you can't satisfy all the fools all of the time."....... or something like that.

It wasn't minor Corky. And if Hillary had won the primary, Obama wouldn't be a good VP choice for her either, for that reason.

If you feel that video of Hillary proclaiming Obama to be a pie in the sky fairytale is 'minor'...
Well I don't agree but that's your answer so okay.

It seems the fact that the dems put out the second best candidate is becoming more and more obvious as time goes by.
Obama is in a tight race--he needs all the help he can get.
Hillary as VP brings 18 million votes. Anybody have a better choice?

Right, Norm.

If one lives in paralyzing fear of what the other Party might do with heated primary campaign rhetoric, one might as well just pass time watching one's ballsack shrivel up.

heated primary campaign rhetoric

Either that rhetoric (ie, out-of-touch elitist) is true or it's not.

No kidding. He is every bit as fanatic as the most diehard Obamite, but apparently doesn't recognize it.

Et Tu, Bilbo?

Perhaps you would like to take up Sully's oh so sane thesis....

"That and a rabid supporter might just try to assassinate Obama so Hillary can be President."

If by rabid supporter you mean someone hired by the Clintons then I agree.- Silly, er, Sully

That takes a little more "fanatic and die hard" than I can usually muster.

But hey, I respect your opinion, and if you are a tin-foil Derby type, like Sully, more power to ya.

"Anybody have a better choice?"

In a word...no.
Obama NEEDS to choose Hilary Clinton so that the Dems can be more sure of victory. Now is not the time to be nominating a person most of the country hardly knows.

""That and a rabid supporter might just try to assassinate Obama so Hillary can be President."

No, I'm not going that far. The point I agree with is that some Clintonites are just as fanatical as Obamites.

Obama NEEDS to choose Hilary Clinton so that the Dems can be more sure of victory

----

That would lose my vote for sure. Change does not mean picking somebody who represents the status quo as your #2.

That and a rabid supporter might just try to assassinate Obama so Hillary can be President.

----

That was my comment and was a tongue in cheek comment poking fun at Hillary's rabid supporters who insist she still can be President.

The point I agree with is that some Clintonites are just as fanatical as Obamites.

Except that you have no proof of any "obamite" using fanatical language.

Still smarting, eh Jeff?

"That would lose my vote for sure. Change does not mean picking somebody who represents the status quo as your #2."

Smart cuz letting McSame win would really bring "change."

Smart cuz letting McSame win would really bring "change."

----

Obama is the one who has been campaigning heavily on change. He's the the one who pinned Hillary as politics as usual. Politics as usual is antithesis to his campaign.

There is nobody in the field who can be Obama's change vp candidate... well except if he asked....?

I don't know who but somebody he hasn't tagged as politics as usual.

www.suntimes.com

With Hillary as VP, she could still be President in 2016. She would be 4 years younger then, than McCain is now.

People seem to forget that the country was doing great under the Clintons. There was a balanced budget and no one dying in useless, never ending war.

Obama would be President, and I don't think he would have any trouble telling either Hillary or Bill to STFU if need be. But their advice could be very beneficial--something to be weighed. Whatever changes Obama has in mind wouldn't be hampered by Hillary as VP, and her connections would probably help many of them get passage.

With Obama as President, Hillary as VP, and a Senate with a 56 or 57 dem plurality, the passage of major bills is a real possiblity. Imagining that reality, the possibility of a 60 plus dem plurality in 2010 becomes very real.

Some people can't seem to get over the primary rhetoric.

Whoever the VP is, he/she will be bombarded with ways in which he/she disagreed with Obama then, or even now.

Bayh and Biden voted for the war. Bayh served on a committee with McCain supporting the war after the vote. Nobody knows Kaine, either.

Even his wife was stating it...

Michelle Obama, who could become Americas first black First Lady, has launched a scathing attack on her husbands opponent Hillary Clinton, stating she represents "the same old thing over and over again"

www.telegraph.co.uk

If he's going to run on change, then I expect him to act differently than other politicians. Doing whatever it takes to get elected is not change.

"That takes a little more "fanatic and die hard" than I can usually muster."

Sheesh Corky, I thought it was fairly obvious that I was joking about Hillary killing Obama. I later said that I believe Hillary doesn't even want to be VP.

And how am I a fanatic when as of now I'm leaning towards not voting for the guy? (And no, I won't vote for McCain either). The best I can say about Obama is that he's s typical lying, pandering politician but it appears the line beneath he refuses to sink it just a little higher than the others. But maybe he just hasn't mastered the art of bullshit yet. I can't be sure.

I wasn't joking when I said I believe Hillary doesn't want Obama to win.

Some people can't seem to get over the primary rhetoric

----

And change is not empty primary rhetoric. That's politics as usual.

BB...

For once on this topic I don't disagree with you. However, the baggage of Bill's business dealings since he left the White House would be a HUGE liability to Obama and likely turn the campaign into another Clinton-bashing crusade at the same time. And Bill is impossible to control as he's showing post-primary. It would have been one thing if Bill had viewed Obama as his non-handpicked heir, but Bill didn't do that. In many ways he's treated him like a pariah and not the logical successor to Bill's own legacy as a potential Democratic President, which Obama earned by defeating Hillary in the primaries.

Personally, I'd love to see Hillary become Senate Majority Leader and for Bill to continue on with his Initiative and branch more into US poverty ala John Edwards before his recent fall. They both have much more to give as it regards making a difference in US politics and the global community as a whole.

Doing whatever it takes to get elected is not change.

Word.

Better than Bill Clinton debating about what the meaning of "is" is, "change" is getting defined more and more loosely as the days go on.

More like Mad Libs I think.

If he's going to run on change, then I expect him to act differently than other politicians. Doing whatever it takes to get elected is not change.

Do tell. Check the history of how he got himself elected the last two times. Getting his "friends" thrown off ballots, sending lawyers out of state to open up opponent's divorce records.

Not exactly change you can believe in.

Just don't take your inevitable disappointment in swallowing these people's rhetoric whole too seriously.

"Obama is the one who has been campaigning heavily on change."

That's a little unfair considering how long Hilary has been working for national health care. She can't be labeled just an opportunist with her many years dedicated to that issue. Any national health care bill passed would constitute real CHANGE.
Together Obama and Clinton could get the job done. In a way she deserves to be there for that victory over that Vast right Wing Conspiracy.

- In many ways he's treated him like a pariah

Perhaps had Obama not had his minions create race-baiting memos out of Bubba's quotes and send them to the media just prior to the SC primary, you know, the memos that the late Timmah waved under Barrack's nose at the debate.... perhaps Bubba wouldn't still be pissed.

I don't know if he was running on change back then but I've been watching him and will be during the rest of the campaign to see if there are any changes from politics as usual. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now but as time goes on, that will change based on his "change" or lack thereof.

"Well, good on you! That's not paranoid, just dull-witted."

Sure. Judging a notorious liar by her actions rather than her words is dull witted and paranoid.

By the way, I've recently aquired a bridge and due to an unfortunate family situation, I need to sell it real cheap. You seem like a person with a real keen sense for a bargain. Tell you what I'm gonna do..........

Sully, it isn't Hillary, it is her supporters. Big difference. Hillary has been gracious and a great campaigner for Obama. Her supporters on the other hand have been anything but gracious or supportive.

Her actions include stopping her campaign when she could be urging her delegates to force her onto the ticket as VP, which she could have. Or just taking her campaign to the convention as Ted Kennedy did with far, far less chance of any results.

Or she could have not endorsed him or not worked her contributors for him or not stumped around the country for him.

The visceral, irrational Clinton hatred by some is mostly a left-over of millions of VRWC dollars well spent influencing vacuous minds.

btw- I have some swam... er, real estate you might want to go with that bridge you bought.

"Sully, it isn't Hillary, it is her supporters. Big difference. Hillary has been gracious and a great campaigner for Obama. Her supporters on the other hand have been anything but gracious or supportive."

That's why she demanded to be included in the roll call at the DNC convention and that's why she recently said she hadn't ruled out a floor nomination. That's why she keeps talking about the glass ceiling and is likely to do so at the convention, where she is demanding to show videos among other concessions not normally reserved for someone in her position.

I realize she is saying what she needs to say now and that she has even made some appearances for Obama. But wait until you see that circus in Denver before you tell me she wants Obama to win. And see how she acts after she gets what she wants at the convention....

Sully

You might be too late on that bridge...

www.nypost.com

"The visceral, irrational Clinton hatred by some is mostly a left-over of millions of VRWC dollars well spent influencing vacuous minds."

I don't hate her. I dislike her because she is an obvious, unapologetic, patronizing liar and it has been proven many times over. That is reality. If you choose to believe something other than reality that is your problem.

Ah, comprende!

The only reality is Sully's reality. I should of thought of that before.

-That's why she keeps talking about the glass ceiling and is likely to do so at the convention,

Damn those women and their damn glass ceilings!! Why can't they just stay offa my lawn?" - Silly

Some of you have commented that the veep sel;ction really has no bearing on the race. This year that is not true. America is truly divided on these two candidates, almost right down the middle. Both candidates need someone to help them tilt the tide.

As for Obama, this did not have to be true but, although he and his team did extremely well against Hillary, they have gotten arrogant and are now running an incompetent race. Obama is not the right person to run this year if he thinks he does not have to get nasty. He should move out of the way and let the big dogs place. On in this cae, Hillary.

Obama has missed so many opportunities aganist McCain but I'm hopeful that his fight will get stromnger and better from here on.

Remember, conservative talk has for years said the dems were beholdened to moveon.org. Well, McCain is now beholdened to conservative talk radio. Drill here, drill now was started by Newt Gingrich and Sean Hannity. Now McCain can't stop saying it. Oer the past few days talk have been warning him over a pro-choice veep selection and he hears them loud and clear. It was Hannity who suggested he visit the oil platform and then what do we get. Even in the Warren interview, all we heard was talk radio talking point after talking point. McCain has sold himself out and it is shameful why the media is not talking about this or any of McCain's other many flaws, yet they announce Obamas with Joy. There should be outrage at this just as McCain complained of the coverage from Obamas Europe trip. Obama needs to get it going or get going. This election is not about him, it is bigger than him. I meean for god sakes, WE ARE ABOUT TO GO TO WAR WITH RUSSIA-led by the conservatives and talk radio.

"Ah, comprende!

The only reality is Sully's reality. I should of thought of that before."

Only one reality exists. And in reality, Hillary has been caught telling numerous, obvious lies to the public. If you want to pretend that facts are subjective, that is your problem.

"Damn those women and their damn glass ceilings!! Why can't they just stay offa my lawn"

I would bet I'm a good 15 years younger than you, at least. And most people are reasonable enough to understand how a woman who just lost a highly contested nomination blaming it on the glass ceiling isn't exactly going to make the ladies support the man who defeated her. I am sorry that you belong to a minority who can't grasp that.

I can see it now. Clinton as VP standing behind Obama, looking supportive, with a contracted telescoping car antenna hidden in her pantsuit.

First off, Obama has already picked the top aids for the VP and the Clintons wouldn't be okay with that. They are only going to want people loyal to them. Plus you can't control Bill, never mind that Obama can't trust Hillary. For all of the judgement crap Obama talks about, this would be as bad as it gets. Mind you, I would prefer Hillary over Obama if one of these 2 has to be President.

-Only one reality exists

Ah! An M Theory dissident. Good on you, sweetie. Hang in there, maybe they'll bring back the flat earth society.

It is always smilable when seeing someone who thinks that their OPINION is everyone else's reality.

And then we have any mention of the "glass ceiling", which was mentioned ad nauseum before the primary results, only able to now communicate a false rationale for Hil's loss and nothing else.

That's one putrid opinio... er, reality you have going there, fruitcake.

Obama & Clinton = Aces & 8's!

Nader mentions JFK being pressured to take on LBJ as his VP - that eventually turned out with JFK dead and LBJ later accused of being part of the assassination plot.History is certainly soon to repeat itself with an Obama/Clinton ticket!

The words "Clinton" and "vice" go together like "hope" and "change".

"It is always smilable when seeing someone who thinks that their OPINION is everyone else's reality."

Corky wants to pretend that there are no such things as facts. There are only opinions. So when Hillary intentionally mistates a fact, as has been documented numerous times, it isn't a lie. Its just an opinion. Because if there are no facts then there are no lies. This is, of course, insanely idiotic despite the fact that the Corkster expresses this horseplop with with a practiced arrogance.

I often wonder what it takes for someone to like a shallow huckster like Hillary and now I have my answer: Willful stupidity.
