A comprehensive study of college students found more than half of the 26,000 surveyed had suicidal thoughts (55%), some seriously considered it (18%) and nearly one-in-10 had made an attempt (8%).

~DAVE

Indeed

I was depressed for a year or two during that stage of life, but I never had a serious suicide thought.

My theory is that the college years are akin to what parents call "the terrible twos," when tots first gain consciousness of a world outside the safety of their mother. After the safety of high school, you enter a new world with the burden of decisions that affect the rest of your life. And with so little experience with which to make those great decisions.

I blame the price of books.

I blame mental illness. Perhaps the least well understood pervasive phenomena in our society.

I blame emo music.

I believe it is perfectly reasonable to have suicidal thoughts, at any age.

Hmmm, I guess I always feel as if things will either get better, or there are things that make life worth living for. Never really thought about suicide (call me what you want). I have thought about escaping my life. Like winning the lottery or just going away to someplace new. But never ending it. Unless you count thinking about when I get old and really sick, I have thought about what I would do then. I tell everyone that I will have my son duct tape me to the motorcycle, set the throttle wide open and rune me off th eend of the pier into the lake. But really I probably would not as drownding is not a good way to go. I almost did that once. I think I want something less stressful.

mmm - so you're into duct tape?

Ha, sure there are lots of things you can do with duct tape. I go through a couple rolls a year.

duct tape and WD40 are all the tools you'll ever need. Duct tape for things that move but aren't supposed to and WD40 for things that don't move but are supposed to.

RCADE: THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN

"Suicidal thoughts 'common' among college students"

AND

"'Most' College Students Have Suicidal Thoughts"

I am fucking tired of news agencies and sites taking shit out of context. FUCKING STOP IT.

Hey if you're really intent on suicide why not get some great good out of it - by taking one (or more) of these Sleazy,Corporate,Wall St.Cocksuckers and/or Politicos like Bush,Cheney or Pelosi with you! Hey if you really gotta go why not make it worthwhile and even glorious to evrybody else!!! RIP you Patriot Bastard!!!

Suicide is for quitters. Life will always get better.

From having talked to many college students, I have come to the conclusion that there is a certain percentage that would go ahead and suicide and in this manner do the thing they say they want. Benefit the human race.

The sad part is that many of them are probably trust fund yuppies who have never had to work a day in their lives, yet they think they are "stressed out."

There is a vast difference, intellectually and physically, between "Suicidal thoughts" and "suicide"

Many posters don't seem to be able to grasp that.

With what these professors try to make us think of our own country & world events( we suck, America sucks, One world U.N. government is good, ect, ect ect,) its no surprise people my age in school are suicidal.

Its really hard to deal with having to think straight while having your opinions challenged by opposing points of view, huh, truth?

I remember wishing I was dead when I got evicted from student housing and owed a couple of grand in damages. I don't recall wanting to kill myself though.

I imagine everyone has such morbid thoughts, but that's a far fucking way from actually considering it.

wow your so cool. Pointing out grammatical errors instead of dealing with the upfront issue. This a a message board not a published, polished and payed writing job. Asshole.

What is a so cool, and where do I get one?

your so cool

His so cool what?

wow man. Just, wow.

Hey, you want truth? You got truth.

gottruth can spell Asshole, guys. Give him (and his professors) a break!

The truth hurts. So cool may or may not hurt, I'll reserve judgement.

"...instead of dealing with the upfront issue..... Asshole.

I was dealing with the upfront issue... i was addressing your problem with having your opinions challenged in school by evil liberal professors and what they "try to make us think ... ect, ect ect,)."

Did you miss that part? Or was I more correct than I'd guessed when I had asked... you know....?

If by truth you mean: I'm not a obsessive compulsive neurotic that must correct every little grammatical of others but still finds the need to exchange ideas with others who ARE in hopes of furthering debate issues of the day. Ya that sounds truthy.

Ya that sounds truthy.

...and it sounds like a slack-jawed yokel.

I can remember having melodramatic thoughts at times like "I'd be better off dead...." but I don't remember actually wanting to kill myself - ever. I can't imagine what would drive someone to do such a thing. Even if I were miserable I wouldn't put my family through that......

After my wife died in April the only thing that stopped me from doing it was not wanting to put any of my loved ones in the same pain I was in.

It's no wonder these college students are having suicidal thoughts when they are brainwashed by lib professors that America is a terrible country and that Cuba is a wonderful place and that they the white college students are not only responsible for slavery but everything else that is wrong with the world.
