Biden can't go a month without saying something stupid. I welcome his entry into the race, and look forward to the soundbites.

What an insult to Hillary... You hillary supporters should show your displeasure by at least voting for McCain in Pennsylvania... oh what the hell Indiana too.

The governor from Ohio would be a good choice.

Ted Strickland is considered a least likely choice but has many advantages. Especially considering how close Ohio has been in the past 2 election cycles.

Wee those are only if he can't get his scientists to revive Lenin in time.

I have stated from the get-go the stable choice for B.O. would be Biden. Any combination makes me want to puke, but when I look over the other side of the aisle at McCain, I feel like I'm watching endless reruns of the Exorcist in 360....

What happened to Richardson? Do they have the latino vote sewed up? Or was Richardson just another ploy of the si se puede line?

IS Scatman Caruthers still around?

All other bullshit aside, you can't deny that Biden has more experience and knowledge than either McSame or Obamalama.

I say Biden for Obamalama and Romney for McSame. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I think John Kerry will be Obama's VP and Hillary will be McCain's VP.

I think Biden would be a blast. I can't believe he's lasted as long as he has. If I'm going to be forced to have somebody as uninteresting as Obama be the president then the least he could do is add some flavor to his ticket.

I just don't know that Biden brings a whole lot to the table for Obama in a political sense.

Romney for McSame

That way we can get some great Squirrell in a popcorn maker recipes .

Biden can't go a month without saying something stupid.

It could be said then that you can't go a day without saying something stupid, yet I'm sure you still have the respect of some segment of the DR. Biden's statements are less stupid then incendiary. Biden is a very intelligent, and would make an excellent VP.

I just don't know that Biden brings a whole lot to the table for Obama in a political sense.

You're thinking of Huckabee.

That was news from a long time ago, and John Stewart probably hasn't touched on it for some time, so you're forgiven for fucking up his material.

"I just don't know that Biden brings a whole lot to the table for Obama in a political sense."

I think he does a lot to make up for Obama's lack of experience. Biden was chair of the judiciary committee in the Senate, and he's also been on the foreign relations committee. Personally I think he'd be a great VP choice if his mouth didn't get him into so much trouble. Wasn't he the guy who praised Obama for being such a "clean" black man?

I think he'd be an asset to the admin, don't get me wrong. It's politically that he's a liability (meaning you can find somebody with his level of experience with less baggage from a more populous part of the USA).

And yes, he was the one that commented on the fact that Obama wasn't your typical scary black guy.

Hillary is the best VP choice. Folks say she is not a good choice becuase she would cancel out the change philosophy. Well, first of all change does not mean change in people, but it means a change in how politics ios done. Hillary has actually been a new kind of politician over theyears. For god sake she's work with Newt Gingrich on some things.

Barak has to bite the bullet and ask Hillary becuase I think he will barely win, if he wins at all without her. Besides, what can they say about Hillary being on the ticket. Remember, McCain has actually been supporting and boosting her for weeks now. Use his words in ads and that would be enough.

Hillary and Barack would be an awsome team, despite any of the so-called negative factors of the selection.

The "if it's not Clinton, it can't be any woman" line is the ripest piece of crap in the pile. Sorry, folks, but Sebelius has at least as much hard-working effective elected experience as Hillary Clinton. Quite a bit more, actually. As do at least 13 female Senators and 5 female Governors.

Clinton beats Sebelius by about 18 million voters.
Clinton would be the best choice because it would help win the election. Getting elected is a necessary step to any hope for "change."

What about Bill Clinton?

"Hillary is the best VP choice."

Not going to happen. Bill Clinton is way too much of a liability. Obama isn't that stupid.

Glad you remember that 18 million votes now, Danni.

AO, After Obama, I expect the media-driven history will remember only a mild showing from some woman who's husband used to be President.

What about Bill Clinton?

Posted by loonytarian

Interestingly enough, Bubba said early on that he didn't think he could be VP because of the conflict that would occur if the VP ever had to take office, and no third terms are now allowed.

If they were, people would be saying, "Barrack who?", today.

Since the heat of the primaries has abated, I've warmed up to the idea of Clinton as #2. In all honesty my main concern there would have to be Bill. Firstly because he does seem to have become more of a loose cannon lately, and secondly because of the difficulty of finding an appropriate role that he could and would stay within the boundaries of. As a former Prez, that could be tricky.

As do at least 13 female Senators and 5 female Governors.

How about Debbie Stabenow? They could shore up the obese vote. What is the percentage of overweight americans? Two thirds? Thats a hell of a voting bloc.

I'm thinking Obama could shore up the male vote by picking Edwards. You know, legitimize Edwards and appeal to the massive "guys who fuck around on their wives" vote.

I'm thinking he doesn't need to add Marshall Applewhite, Charles Manson, or Jim Jones. He already has the "I'll blindly follow and join the cult" vote all sewn up.

"appeal to the massive "guys who fuck around on their wives" vote."

Does that mean he'd get McCain's vote?

-Does that mean he'd get McCain's vote?

Yes, and Bubba's, too. That's the beauty of the pick. Bob Barr and Newt Gingrich might even vote for him.

Why not Jefferson from Louisiana?

"Does that mean he'd get McCain's vote?"

When was that story proven?

Joe, from HuffPo:

John McCain had a well-documented affair on his first wife, with his current wife. He has admitted in the books he has written about his life that he ran around with several different women while still married to his first wife. And don't forget that he left her for a younger, richer woman - multi-millionaire Cindy Hensley who is now Cindy McCain - after she had been severely hurt in a car accident.

"When was that story proven?"

Does your knee ever get sore from jerking it that hard?

"When was that story proven?

Posted by JOE "

How do you get the Internet living in a cave and all?

Thanks for the information. I was thinking of the recent NYT story about his supposedly more recent relationship with a female lobbyist, which appeared to be a less than credible story. I didn't know he cheated on his first wife, but given that it happened before I was born and that I've never really given a shit about McCain, I don't see why that's a reason for people to jump all over me about it.

It won't matter who the VP is. He'll never do any VPing. Because once Obama declares the US a caliphate, he'll be the grand poobah for life with absolute say over everything and nobody will be able to stop him.

"It won't matter who the VP is. He'll never do any VPing."

He will if McCain wins.

Sincerely,
The Grim Reaper

Biden can't go a month without saying something stupid. I welcome his entry into the race, and look forward to the soundbites.

God, wouldn't a Mccain-Biden debate be a hoot. Of course, Mcsame has about 29 more days of saying something stupid each month. Maybe they could debate in Czechoslovokia or on the Iraq-afghanistan border.

The talibaptists had a sit down with the McSameys and warned them not to pick Flipp Romney.

I don't see why that's a reason for people to jump all over me about it.

I didn't jump, just pointed it out because you asked a simple question, and I figured you were confusing the two issues, which is reasonable. It does appear that there are others who relish in pointing out your mistakes though.

I know, I wasn't referring to you.

Can't be elected.
Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

Doesn't speak on VPing into the Oval. I think this was kicked around in 2000, with Bill VPing for Al.

I worked in an office that had a doctor for old guys on the same floor and his patients used the common bathroom. Old dudes are disgusting. Apparently, once you hit a certain age you no longer feel the need to leave your feces in a toilet or your dirty diapers in the garbage. Nor do you avoid walking through the turd you just planted on the tile floor.

I feel bad for the secret service guys that are going to have to mind McCain if he wins.

So, why is Joe Sestak no longer mentioned as a possible VP pick?

HOW ABOUT O.J FOR VP???

First rule of VP--Pick someone who can do no harm.

I think Keane is stepping all over himself and out of the running.

I like Biden--he's funny--and actually makes some sense with regards to the war. 3 EV is not going to cut it though.

Bayh--this is the guy to pick--IMHO. Puts IN into play--plus the surrounding states. Big family--what four kids? I don't know if he a guy of Change, but the photos of the families would look good. Lacks experience--but has more than Obama.

Just as long as he doesn't pick another woman--Obama will have a chance to get the HIllary voters.

If he picks Sebelius--he's toast with 18 million voters.

Jesus, these VP selection threads are almost as bad as watching analysts speculate about nfl teams' possible draft picks.

Johnny-
It's especially annoying when everyone thinks (knows) it's Leiberman for McCain's VP.

If Obama has half a brain he'll bring someone like Senator Joe Biden on the ticket. Biden as a lot of foreign policy experience. Obama needs someone with a strong military background. Actually, the Dems ticket would have a better chance of winning if it was Biden for prez and Obama for VP.

As far as Colin Powell being VP on Obama's ticket, Powell's rep was destroyed the day he showed up at the U.N. and shilled for Bush and the Iraq war. He can never get back the respect he used to have.

Biden as a lot of foreign policy experience.

Biden has too much baggage.

You may be right.

If not VP, maybe Biden could hire on as one of Obama's speech writers.

Obama needs Oprah.

I'd like to see Obama choose Biden, but I'm guessing he'll go with a governor such as Kaine or Richardson.

Biden's smart as hell, has more foreign policy experience than just about anybody in the Senate, and would be terrific in the attack-dog role required of a vice presidential candidate. The only significant knocks on him are that he's from a small state and Obama/Biden would be a two senator ticket.

It is going to be someone who will surprise everyone.

Lieberman will not be McCain VP--it'll be Romney or Pawlenty.

R-Cade -- They say that Sen. Warner from VA will be keynoting the convention. The WP also suggests this means Kaine won't be BO's #2. But Kaine is smart, and NICE. He would be an interesting #2.

On Strickland, he is a good pol, and the DEMS need the blue collar votes Strickland might be able to attract. Not sure he's in the running, though. Richardson has some appeal to hispanics, but he's got some drawbacks and probably wouldn't help pull in the voters that Strickland or Kaine could help bring in.

Murphy -- Your top two for Mccain are conventional wisdom picks now, too, but why is McCain bringing former PA Gov. Tom Ridge everywhere he goes? Ridge could make a contest out of PA and the Great Lakes states that are teetering at this point. Seems to be McCain's strategy to win those states.

Gee, I wonder what Edward's chanves at VP are with all the recent disclosure...

from today's NY Post...

Levine claims the huge sum they've spent on this story is only a spit to "the enormous amounts we know Edwards is spending to keep it contained. But he can't. We've followed the money trail. He bought her [Rielle Hunter] a $1 million house in North Carolina. Few days before our headlines forced him to go public, he spent $150,000 just on a private plane to whisk her to some undisclosed place. She was moved in the middle of the night. Lots of money is being spent to keep her happy and away from the media.

"Gee, I wonder what Edward's chanves at VP are with all the recent disclosure..."

Who?

Exactly! From prospective Obama Attorney General to nobody in a little over a week...

Please, please let McCain choose Romney.

ZED

Quickest way for McCain to lose Michigan and Ohio would be to choose Romney. I hope he does choose that fake Conservative (compared to 2 years ago). Together he and McCain would make a pair of Flip Flops like we've never seen before.

Once Michiganders and Ohioans got a load of how Romney's 'private equity' company worked, i.e. laying off workers, outsourcing to China, I'm sure folks in those struggling economies will jump at the chance to vote for a VP like that. LOL

I'm rootin' for McCain to pick him as well....

We'd have weeks of explaining---

1) To Evangelicals, why Mormonism is OK.

2) To vets, why none of Romney's sons could break away from getting rich to serve in the Armed Forces.

3) To the Right in general, when it was Romney ceased being a Liberal.

AU-
I saw you post a reference to the Romney private equity firm a few days ago.

While I'm sure you have good reason to feel skeptical about the Mittster, I would remind you that during the 2008 Rep MI primary Romney beat McCain, 39-30%.

Romney's perceived strengths are largely two-fold: economics and morality.

Regarding flip flops, I realize virtually all pols change their views over time. I do think it's valid and important that a pol indicate the rationale for his change (what new info has come to light to drive the change)... when he changed... and why his former view is no longer the way to go.

Unfortunately too often (on both sides of the aisle) candidates simply reverse course without offering full disclosure on the what/why/when concerning their change.

OOHRAH

You're always so darn reasonable.

You're the kind of Republican I like. Thoughtful, considerate, American. Just a good person. America needs more like you. We're all in this boat together no matter what Rush and Sean tell too many of our fellow citizens.

And yes, Romney will have a lot of explaining to do if he's the VP nominee. His positions on almost everything are 180 degrees juxtaposed to his stated views as Gov. of Mass.

Thanks, AU.

Romney helps shore up two areas I think people see as weaknesses of McCain: economics and "morality."

Plus, Romney simply "looks" like a president - right out of central casting. He talks like one as well, a welcome change from our current POTUS.

Obama is the slight favorite right now. While I don't hold out much hope for any Rep gains in Congress, I do think McCain has a shot at the POTUS.

My party has dropped the ball. It'll take a combination of Dem screw ups and Reps returning to conservative values to reverse the current trend.

OOHRAH

To me Mike Huckabee is a lot more likeable and reasonable than Romney, who comes off to me as quite 'plastic', for lack of a better word.

Huckabee is the kind of evangelical I can stomach - like a Rick Warren - truly compassionate in words and deeds.

I'm not sure how the same evangelicals (like my fervent first cousins) who for years called Mormons all kinds of derogatory names would stomach voting for Romney. Especially with McCain's age such a factor in a VP pick.

Speaking of Warren, I really admire the guy a lot. Putting the 'red print' to work - helping the poor, forming alliances with AIDS groups, etc. - is to me a very Christian attitude. As I've expressed this last year to you, my idea of Christianity is following Christ's teachings - 99% of which speak of loving our enemies, peace, helping the poor and disenfranchised.

Too many evangelicals like Dobson, Hagee, remind me of Torquemada, head of the Spanish Inquisition, rather than compassionate people who truly follow Christ's teachings. For instance, when you hear them railing against Muslims it seems as though they totally disregard the story of the Good Samaritan. Samaritans killed the males in conquered cities and intermarried to assimilate captive people. They were Israelite's enemies.

Huckabee seems like a loving Christian. I like his brand. Same with Rick Warren. I hope Warren's movement catches a stiff tailwind. God knows (no pun intended) Christianity could use some more Christianity.

PS

Looking forward to watching the forum at Saddleback Church tonight.

C-SPAN will be carrying it (for all those who don't have CNN)

oohrah-
You should probably cover your eyes too when facts disturb you.

My favorite part of the video was when McCain was going on and on about how (shia) Iran was training (sunni) al qaeda and sending them into Iraq. As McCain went on, Lindsey G was getting all fidgety, and then Joementum had to eventually whisper in McCain's ear that he was full of shit and should correct himself .

Good thing the non-presumptuous candidate talks daily with the Georgian president and has sent Lindsey and Lieberman as emissaries.

AU-
While I like Huck for his sense of humor and his Christianity stance, I differ with him on other issues (economic mainly) and, frankly, view him as a one-issue candidate - the same as I'd view Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, Al Sharpton, etc.

Huckabee's had experience as a governor - something which is definitely a plus. Senators don't get that same experience.

You raise a valid point about Romney being palatable to Evangelicals. While this may be splitting hairs, my personal view is that I want a guy who (ideally) is virtuous, is right on the abortion issues, gay marriage issue, etc. Whether that means he's a Mormon, Christian, Catholic, etc... that isn't my driving concern.

While Mormonism isn't for me I see Romney as an upright guy. Maybe additional info will surface to refute that. But till then I wish he'd have been the Rep nominee. He is a guy I felt really good about and would have looked forward to voting for versus what I'm faced with now. I voted for him in the NC primary even though McCain had already wrapped things up.

OOHRAH

One more election based on abortion and gay rights and I'll puke.

Enough !!

Romney's a human oil derrick. They could replenish the SPR with his hair clippings alone.

Ya, I was just thinking about Romney's doo.

If he's elected VP Dippity Doo sales will shoot through the roof - all those pent up Ronald Reagan wanna be's.

Problem is, it'll probably be made in China - like the majority of the things the companies Romney's private equity firm bought up do now...

"One more election based on abortion and gay rights and I'll puke." - AU

For many, that's a serious issue. While it's frustrating for you, and to a much smaller degree - me, it's part of the political landscape thanks to court decisions which have stripped away our rights to legislate.

I want my side to be pro life. It doesn't have to be the candidate's primary claim to fame (like with Huckabee), but I do like Romney's other strengths in areas of the economy, immigration, war, etc.

No single candidate embodies anyone's views exactly. I realize that. For me, though, Romney hits on enough of them to get my support. I'd like to see him as VP. Another reason - McCain's age. The Rep VP needs to be ready to hit the ground running. I think Romney's as good as most anyone to do so.

Romney's doo is a thing of beauty. While we've heard of Edwards' haircut costs, I'd be curious as to what it costs for Mitt's cut and preparation to go in front of the cameras. Might be a week's salary for some of us.

OOHRAH

Abortion is not mandatory. Women can choose not to have one. Those that would anyway would do so regardless of lawfulness or not - as was the case before Roe VS Wade - with thousands of women bleeding to death every year.

Economically, IMHO, I don't want someone who made his hundreds of millions putting Americans out of work as Romney did.

I respect your right to your opinion 100% though. You know that. Just voicing mine as well.

McCain wears $500 Italian shoes, has his own private jet and more than half a dozen homes. Stop the elitist obama!

I like the Romney choice, though I think it may be Leiberman instead. In either case, I'm sure either one of them could teach McCain how to use the computing machine.

AU-
The right's abortion concern is that fact that states' rights were removed by the SCOTUS. I don't want to derail this thread into an abortion debate.

I think we understand each other's view on the topic.

Interesting, BET, that you think Lieberman may be the choice. I've thought the same lately. Maybe it's McCain's desire to go it alone - apart from the Christian right. Maybe he thinks that with Joe he'll capture some indys and Dems.

I'll tell you one thing. Having John & Joe will be about as exciting as watching paint dry. Zzzzzz.

From a fundraising standpoint, choosing Lieberman isn't smart. McCain needs conservatives... Christian conservatives and financial conservatives. All Joe brings to the table is a strong war stance. Joe is lib on spending and other issues. Nice enough guy, but I don't want a Dem on my party's ticket, even if to prove a point.
