Why can't people admit failure anymore? This is the kind of attitude you get when you hand out trophies to every kid, and tell them they are special. Fuck it, you screwed up, you lost, fasten your bootstraps, move on, and try not to fuck up in the same way again. Learn from your mistakes, don't try to cover it up by blaming someone else. What you were distracted...maybe you should learn to concentrate a little more and focus on the job at hand.
Sorry for the rant, this kind of stuff pisses me off. I deal with it everyday at work. These new kids we hire can never admit that they screwed up, they always jump to point the finger somewhere else.

this is a fascinating thesis. I believe our nation is far too competitive. I believe that the competitive drive is being instilled at younger and younger ages. I think children should be rewarded for trying for participating for giving it their best. Rewarding winning is what our society is drenched in and it is important to demonstrate to children that trying is important, that fairplay in important. Otherwise we get a bunch of overagressive obsessive people who ignore the rules and believe winning is more important that people.
High school football is now as competitive as college football once was. it is bleeding down into younger and younger age groups, kindergarten age children are playing on teams where winning is the most important thing in the world. that skews a persons world view. other people become less important, winning is more important than happiness.
and if you think this doesnt bleed into other parts of our society you are crazy. business becomes about winning not about social values or being a beneficial segment of society. our culture suffers for it, media plays for the highest ratings derived from the lowest common denominator abandoning its social responsibilities for winning the ratings game.
people become less valued than winning manifesting itself in me me me society of selfish pricks.
competiion is health a competitive spirit is normal and beneficial, but the concept that winning is more important that trying your best or participating or is the most important thing is self destructive.
