Lastly, we need to make the countries that rely on Russia for fuel and other things begin to rely on America for cheaper alternative methods. That is why we should focus much more on alternative energy, not just for ourselves, but to make a better product we can then trade with other countries-- this can be a extremely beneficial way of counteracting Russia's recent resurgence.

We have so many great resources in this country but we consistently take our eyes off this fact and instead focus on gloabal interventionism. Also WAAAY too much energy is spent in this country constructing propaganda to push across morally questionable global tactics to achieve unipolar hegemon. this has to stop.

If you look at the broader implications of the US entering into this conflict, you'd realize that it would soon be about more than just Georgia. When Russian and US troops are shooting at each other in Georgia, what's to prevent them from shooting each other in Estonia, Latvia, or other former satellite nations? The US can't just say "we declare war on you Russia, but only in Georgia." That's not the way war works.

Even if nukes were completely disregarded (which is not realistic), the US would be drawn into a much broader conflict which would be even more costly than Iraq in both terms of dollars and lives. Our supply lines would be long while Russia's are right next door. We'd probably eventually activate our allies (NATO), as would Russia. It's a strategic nightmare to try to fight Russia in its own backyard. How long do Russia's troops take a pummelling before Russia's military decides a nice little tactical nuke solves some of their problems? That's what I meant by not having the military might.

Why should it be up to the US to intervene anyways? France is also a Georgian ally and they've gotten involved by brokering a cease fire, not by intervening with their military. (I know, it's France, but still! they've managed to keep their troops at home in this conflict)

Russia will beat up Georgia's infrastructure and military capabilities for a bit then withdraw to the Osetia and abuwherever territories. We'll pretend they are still an integral part of Georgia for a few years, then there'll be a phoney referendum after the Georgians have been chased out and we'll recognize their independence and right to re-join Mother Russia.

I say we get behind John McCain, because John McCain has seen war and understands that we need to encircle Russia with NATO members to take advantage of both our superior moral position in the world, but also on the strength of the booming US economy and success of our other occupations.
