Russia ordered a halt to the war in Georgia on Tuesday, after five days of air and land attacks that sent Georgia's army into headlong retreat and left towns, military bases and homes in the U.S. ally smoldering.

Not sure if it is Sarkozy's offer or the implied threat from the G7 that did it, but at least Russia is slightly backing off at this time.

YEAH!

Dont tell me you were so naive as to believe that after America set a president of "Preemptive Doctrine", something the Bush Cult was Crowing as Bushs Embraced Legacy, that some other two bit dictator wasnt going to come along and employ the very same rational?

Oh wait ------ never mind!

Want Georgia one of the few countries that liked Bush? I suspect that con is now over too!

Just more evidence that the Longer you Parade Bush in front of peoples faces ---- the less appealing and more disappointing he becomes!

I heard earlier today the leader of France was the one who had gone to Russia to help broker this peace agreement. Let's hope the fighting stops and nothing else happens to flare more trouble up again.

With Bush's foreign policy of "pre-emptive war" which he started with his attack on the soveriegn county of Iraq, we not longer have a leg to stand on when any other country decides to do the same thing. Great example you set, Bush.

There isn't a country on this planet who hasn't initiated hostilities against another. Yes, Bush is guilty too, but in fairness, let's not make it sound like he is the only evil meanie on the planet.

But none of them can be found"

Looks like the EU and (gasp) the Bush Administration were successful, for now, in getting Putin to stand down.

I guess the Bushling's soul gazing has some benefit after all.

In a larger context, I interpret this as a warning to back off on any attempt to blockade or attack Iran.

Ray-

I would agree, but last we checked, Iran didn't have Russian "Peacekeepers" patroling its borders. I think it is a warning to the former satellites to not get to cozy with the US.

Russia shouldn't stop before it bombs Tel-Aviv in Israel!!! It would sure solve a lot of Russia's ongoing problems and also to Europe and America,Israel is completely, utterably expendable!!! There would be absolutely no price to pay for it annihilating these Good-For-Nothing Nazi Bastards!!!

Goatman....

Care to restate?

ANTICADILLAC: "Israel is completely, utterably expendable!!! There would be absolutely no price to pay for it annihilating these Good-For-Nothing Nazi Bastards!!!"

Israelis=Nazis????

Someone strip the Moron Medal from Takitez and pass it on to this jack-ass!

Kalif, where were the numerous UN resolutions that the Soviets (yes, Soviets) introduced to the UN in the years prior to this Georgian "pre-emptive war"?

Sorry about your bruised and hurt feelings and hatred for Bush, but your analysis is warped, very warped.

We, the USA, will always have, not one, but two legs to stand on, as long as naysayers like yourself remain in the minority.

Dumpling is one moment a moron, and then ex-moron, back to moron, ex-moron, moron and on and on...... hehehehe...

Methink he is still smarting from making himself a moron in a previous encounter --- and I got the unenvious privilege of pointing out his moronic information.

Oh, Putin is the angry man of the century.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! RUSSIA! For the Sake of Humanity! PLEASE BOMB Tel Aviv and the God Damned Israeli Knesset - and Blow Thoae Slimy,NAZI ZIONIST-0CockScukers Completely Off the Fucking Maop!!! And Good Fucking Riddance!!!

If Russia bombed Israel there would be dancing in the streets. everyone except the neocons are sick of these terrorists.

And the war in Iran started when as everyone predicted?

Looks like the EU and (gasp) the Bush Administration were successful, for now, in getting Putin to stand down.

I think Putin just got everything he wanted. Freed territories and cowed georgians.

The Bushies are just pissed cause Putin's war was short, cheap and, at least in Osetia and Aberdabber, they were greeted as liberators.

Oh yeah, they're getting the oil, too.

People need to wake up to the fact that the biased Western Media is spreading lies and DISINFORMATION to the American public. The Georgians provoked the conflict by attacking Russian peacekeepers, and commiting genocide against the people of South Ossetia. Human rights groups are flooding the area. They know the truth. The West is supporting another a 2 bit liar in Georgia. The Russians did the right thing. www.youtube.com

Too bad the Russian army didn't get the word.

Sniper-according to the Georgians, they did.

YEAH!

So let me get this straight.

Yes on one hand your right goat ---- In Fairness shall we.

He isnt the first to initiated hostilities against another--, this is true. However, He IS the First to attempt to make it these sorts of things legitimate and acceptable as a Policy--!

Do you remember this goat?

Faced with growing public uneasiness over Iraq, Republican Party officials intend to change the terms of the political debate heading into next year's election by focusing on the "doctrine of preemption," portraying President Bush as a visionary acting to prevent future terrorist attacks on US soil despite the costs and casualties involved overseas.--

Do you remember calling anyone, or hearing someone calling anyone who didnt agree with the above a Traitor?

Visionary you all sang! Repeatedly

But Fact is, Bush and his chortling gang (thats you) worked so hard to legitimize and set precedent for preemptive strikes in the name of Regime Change ----- and now youve got it!

Why deny it Now --- it just makes you stupid!

"There isn't a country on this planet who hasn't initiated hostilities against another."

I remember it like yesterday when Andorra launched a full scale invasion of Spain. And that terrible period when Monaco pummeled France to its knees... (Ok, so that one COULD actually have happened)

As usual this President is wrong again....How SOON would this Country act if the Canadians or the Mexicans or Cubans decided that they wanted to join the Soviet Bloc an was willing to receive Soviet Weapons on the Border of the United States..Georgia started this War, an the Russians overacted, Now is the time for it to stop...For this American President to question the Russians about attacking a soverign Nation is Laughable considering what has been going on in IRAQ for the past 6 1/2 years, what a fucking JOKE!!!!!!

Noon on the left coast and Russia is still in the atack mode.

If this is true then Georgia is one lucky state.

This is the same concept as Argentina taking the Falkland islands.

Additionally the Georgian leaders are delusional.

At what point did it make sense to say "We will end the dispute over the terrortory and if Russia so much as blinks we can win by war by attrittion!"

Fuck with the bear or eagle and there will be dire consequences.

At least parts of the eagle-the right wing, can be rented:

The Post's Matthew Mosk and Jeffrey H. Birnbaum reported today on Sen. John McCain's April phone call to the president of Georgia. McCain was prepped for the call by his top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, whose lobbying firm signed a $200,000 contract with the Georgian government the day of the call.
