If you put a South Ossetian, a Russian and a Georgian side by side, who would be able to tell the difference?
If you put a Palestinian and an Israeli side by side, who could tell the difference?

Killin' in the name of??

Killin' in the name of??

OIL.

Ideals ... communism is better than democracy. Which is what the russia/Georgia battle is about.

Or religion; my god is better than your god. My god is real you're god is fake. Which is what most of the middle east wars are about.

Russia will form the Soviet Union again. I'll bet any money on that. Putin will be the dictator of that union. I don't trust anything Russia says.

Watching the Olympics? Bush Trusts 'Em

Russia shows when it comes down to it, the US better not fuck with its energy resources in Iran, or it will fuck with the west's energy resources in Georgia. Simple as that.

The result of endless interventionism in other countries' affairs is the weakening of American self-sufficiency. Because American interests were exported abroad, america can now be weakened when such interests abroad are threatened, as we see here. One bombed pipeline away...

I do not agree at all. I don't think Russia will make the same mistakes it made thirty-forty years ago. America is making the same mistakes Russia was. Russia has managed to move on from its bloated notions of idealogical and geographical expansion and secure expansion instead in the energy realm. Oil reserves are far less difficult to deal with than unruly masses in a country that will never conform to some pseudo-Marxist idealogy.

It has nothing to do with God. Communist worldview only plays a small role. It isn't the idealistic force it once was. Russia essentially is playing energy miser. Whoever owns the majority of the world's energy resources will make financial gains necessary to improve its infrastructure. They know that they need only to subtly influnce the tiny nations around them to do so-- they have no need of planting their flags in other parts of the world as they did not-so-long ago-- that will come once they have their stranglehold on the majority of the world's energy resources. Already you see those countries in the western hemisphere forming-- Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia-- and it will get worse because we have totally lost our moral compass and are no longer looked up by other countries as it once was for guidance and leadership.

Here's the result of your war on terror, folks. Be prepared to deal with it for the rest of your lives.

Russia is showing right now that it is unafraid of applying overwhelming brutal conventional force at the drop of a pin, no questions asked. Georgia is the unfortunate example. What does that really mean? THAT is the crux of the situation here.

On the other side you have us who are as a nation cowed into pussification because we continue to base our aggressions off of silly idealistic sound bytes about democracy and freedom. When it comes down to it, because of our own inability to keep our selfish material needs at the center of any potential conflict with another tribe or nation, we have managed to put our balls in other parts of the world of peripheral importance where they can easily be stepped on and crushed. By doing so we have cut off our own ability to engage in our own form of brutal action at any time, relying instead on getting it through to the masses via cute propaganda twists and administrative appearacnes on good morning America.

As a result this country is hamstrung and has been given a sound thumping by the very nation it thought it defeated fifteen years ago.
This is a HUGE deal folks, but HEY, the Olympics are on TV, famous people ar ehaving affairs and Issac Hayes is dead...

Great article in the Observer (London).

Russia has been doing everything it could in these two regions for a couple of years to goad Georgia into action.

Of course, W "Looked into Putin's eyes and saw his heart"

I don't think Putin HAS a heart, and I think W's gut should not be trusted after he listened to that voice telling him to invade Iraq - thinking it was God.

W isn't a good judge of anything.

Well, maybe a fart contest. I hear he's quite the fart afficianido.

Here's some homespun advice:

If your dick is already stuck in an one ass you can't be the person to order someone else to get his out of another.

Cheney and Bush telling the Rooskies to "cease and desist" is a hoot...

Shoot, this is the Russians just working a Kosovo play...that they learned from watching NATO protect a breakaway republic ...( o maybe like Texas)..reckon soon in 5-10 years they'll be part of Russia

RPEC?

And the Great Game goes on. To para-phrase the neo-cons, this must be the re-beginning of history. Let's just hope the Chinese don't decide to rescue their brethern on Tiawan.

I just hope the Russkies' versions of Achmed Chalabi are more capable than Bush's.

The feeling was mutual: when Mr. Bush visited Tbilisi in 2005, the authorities estimated that 150,000 people showed up to see him. He famously climbed up on a platform and wiggled his hips to loud Georgian folk music.

ahh, the old dancing monkey diplomacy strikes again...

Every Rose Revolution has its thorn.

Here's the result of your war on terror, folks. Be prepared to deal with it for the rest of your lives. KGBeekeeper you are right.

We have brought this kind of crap on ourselves, by not knowing that to "win" the Cold War we should have retired NATO, not expanded it, for example.

Idiots all around, as usual. And oil will be up again this week.

Putin is more powerful, and clever, now he is Prime Minister.

So someone just tell me if im wrong on my facts here. Georgia instigated the first act of agression by occupying South Ossetia and the Russians responded with force. So its kinda like the scrawny 100 lb kid at school punching the football player at school then begging for mercy (Cease-fire) and an end to confrontations. They might even go to the principle (U.S.) for help? Haha

The last thing the U.S. needs is to get into another Kosovo style confrontation.
We have more than we can deal with now without bailing out Georgia. I think the Georgians thought we'd come to their rescue as we did for the Albanians in Kosovo but the timing is no good. With Iraq and Afghanistan we are totally tied down.

Isn't Georgia part of NATO? If so, isn't NATO's policy if one NATO country gets attacked it's the same as if they all were attacked and all the NATO countries have to come to each other's defense?

Not only did the Georgians invade South Ossetia, they went on murderous rampage there.

They practised indiscriminate mass killing of civilians. The Russians were justified in repelling the Georgians.

We are not getting the true story here. The Georgian "president" is an unpopular, ruthless killer in the mold of Saddam, Pinochet and Marcos. (Just the kind of psycopath killer the USA LOVES!!!) His popularity was flagging so he starts a war to rally the people behind his leadership.

( HMM, where have we seen that before?)

exiledonline.com

The Russians were justified in repelling the Georgians.

I agree. I remember when the Muslim Albanians pushed into Kosovo and took it over. Why the U.S. sided with the Albanians I'll never know. Putin doesn't want all these NATO countries surrounding Russia with their guns pointed at Moscow. Can't really blame Putin for feeling Russia is under threat. Is there oil involved in this dispute? Isn't there some deal about a pipeline?

The facts about how this started are undisputed.

Thursday, following intense Georgian shelling and katyusha rocketing into Tskhinvali, refugees streamed out of South Ossetia telling reporters that the Georgians had completely leveled entire villages and most of Tskhinvali, leaving piles of corpses-- in the streets, over 1,000 by some counts. Among the dead are at least ten Russian peacekeepers, who fell after their base was attacked by Georgian forces. Reports also say that Georgian forces destroyed a hotel where Russian journalists were staying.

The Georgian "Strongman" (trying to play Stalin, no doubt, (BTW, Stalin was another Georgian), ) sent an invasion force of his troops into South Ossetia to Rape, murder and pillage, in order to start something which would boost his standing.

The Russians respond and he then quickly withdraws his killers and cries for the west to help him get a cease fire.

"Mission accomplished", he will now get US aid, his popularity is boosted (he is a "WAR" president after all) and he and his thugs can go on gang raping their own people for a few more years. All with the blessing of the USA.

Thanks, Cynic. Good summary.

Why the U.S. sided with the Albanians I'll never know.

To further break up whatever was left of Yugoslavia, why else?

I think it was a good move. Basically cut off Russian influence in the Balkans. Finito.

Thing is... there is some force in the US which doesn't want the Cold War to be over. Many of their actions in the last decade are very much anti-Russian... slowly creeping towards Russia's throat.

How long before the Bear reacts badly? This was only a small example.

Georgia is NATO's new little lap puppy.
The Russian news is reporting dead US marines, and Blackwater troops in Georgia. They are taking DNA samples of the dead black soldiers, because their (Negro) DNA is almost non existent in that region.

Georgia is NATO's new little lap puppy.

Well, puppy got run over.

CC

Go through my posting history from a couple of days ago. There was and article in the London Observer about this situation.

The Russians have been toying with those two provinces for a couple of years in not so good ways.

The blame does not lie with the Russians according to the article. They've been pulling all kinds of nefarious stuff in the two provinces of Georgia - a sovereign country.

I meant the blame doesn't lie with the Georgians

Oops

NATO, which is the army of the damned, The damned new world order that is, is provoking this action to drag the world into war so they can further their agenda for world government, Globalization.
I wonder if people realize that we are as close to nuclear war as we were at the hight of the cold war.
New World Order, and Obama campeign handler, Zbigniew Brzezinski states in his 90's book The Grand Chess Board that the cold war should be vigorously persued, by creating tensions with Russia in the Caucus region.

I meant the blame doesn't lie with the Georgians

Oops

Yeah, you were actually telling the truth the first time.

Well, the article said Russia worked behind the scenes to move Russians there, and then installed their own puppets in local and provincial governments of the two provinces.

In other words, the conclusion was the Russians have been trying a land grab, but it isn't their land.

I knew there was going to be a problem when this video came out a few months ago.

www.youtube.com

Historically that was Russian territory, and the majority of the people living there speak Russian, and they don't want to break away from Russia. The majority of the people hold Russian passports.
The BBC interview with whatshisname president of Gerogia, he admitted they attacked "the Russian separatist" first.
Russian separatist: translation, The local population.
The Georgians, as a puppet front for the New World Order, attacked first and killed 1500 local civilians .

"puppet front for the New World Order"
Just like Israel.
In fact Israel has ground forces along with Black water and approx. 1000 marines fighting there.
And Israeli military is actually in command of these forces.

Hundreds of Israeli defense experts are reportedly in Georgia and Israel's military industries have been upgrading Georgia's air force, training its infantry and selling the country unmanned aerial vehicles and advanced artillery systems.

Israeli defense experts: Translation, MOSSAD, and special forces.

"The BBC interview with whatshisname president of Gerogia, he admitted they attacked "the Russian separatist" first."

Wrong.

----------------

www.alertnet.org

"It said shooting came from three ethnic Georgian villages, but Georgia blamed the separatists for provoking the clashes.

The commander of Georgia's peacekeeping force in the region, Mamuka Kurashvili, was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying South Ossetian peacekeepers shot at a Georgian village and suspected Russian peacekeepers of taking part.

Georgian peacekeepers and police officers returned fire and repelled the attack, he said.

Georgia's Interior Ministry said nine civilians in the Georgian villages in South Ossetia were injured, while Tskhinvali said up to 15 were injured on its side, up from seven reported on Friday. Kokoity put the number of injured at 13.

"This is another attempt by the separatist side to involve Georgia in a military conflict," Georgia's state minister in charge of re-integration, Temur Iakobashvili, told reporters in Tbilisi before leaving to visit the shootout area.

"The Georgian side was forced to return fire," he added."

I see

But, it was still Georgian territory. The borders were drawn. Russia really had no claim to it.

I'm not an international affairs expert, but that seems only fair. Russia DOES have a gazillion square miles. What did they need that for as well?

Hey skidmark wtf you and bani are like two of the most irrelevant posters on the drudge. And that's hard to say.

Bee keeper your summation is very accurate, after all just look how russia deals with the Caucasus region, adjacent to So Oddessa!

This is partly a fight over a natural gas pipleline going through So Oddessa....and the russians want control over it, not the Georgians

HOWEVER for once you've provided a god link jeff...

Now read the story and use your brains...this is about russia using it's military to control economic issues...ie natural gas. THEY WANT to be able to screw the EU, and are unafraid to look like they are acting in their own self interst.

Maybe obama can talk to them and sing Kumbaya and everything will be OK

Use your brains moron,
If Russia had forces right next to the US border, and was putting missles there(Cuba) wouldn't the US defend it self?
BTW, Davetheslave calling someone else irrelivant is like Monica calling someone a cock sucker.
You apologist douchebag.

DAVETHEWAVE

That's just too funny!

W is the guy who 'looked into Putin's eyes and saw he had a good heart'. NOT!

W is the guy who had voices tell him to invade Iraq. NOT!

It's going to take a President like Obama to stand up to the guy.

You support a moron who's blown America's leverage over Russia and yet rant against Obama.

That's just ludicrous.

Confirmed - Obama Is
Zbigniew Brzezinski Puppet
Commentary
By Webster Tarpley
3-21-8

Any lingering doubts about Obama's status as an abject puppet of Zbigniew Brzezinski and the Rockefeller Trilateral Commission ended this morning when the withered mummy of imperialism himself appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe* to campaign for Obama, urged on by his own moronic daughter, Mika Brzezinski, an Obama groupie and sycophant.
Zbigniew, a low-level Polish aristocrat whose life has been devoted to hatred for Russia, lauded Obama for his 2002 speech opposing the Iraq war, saying that he himself was the source of Obama's arguments back then - thus confirming Obama's long-term status as his puppet, which probably began in 1981-1983, when Obama was a student at Columbia University, and Zbig was directing the anti-Russian institute.
Zbig is the mastermind of the Kosovo secession under KLA terrorist auspices, a gambit against Serbia and Russia to prepare a coming Operation Barbarossa II against Moscow. With the help of his son Mark Brzezinski, another top foreign policy controller of Obama, Zbig is also behind the new Euromissiles crisis involving US ABM installations in Poland. Zbig is the enforcer for the new CIA policy of killing Pakistanis (as "terrorists") without consulting the government of that country, a nuclear power twice as big as Iran.

Most dangerous of all, Zbig is the obvious mastermind of the massive destabilization of China now ongoing, starting with the CIA/MI-6 Tibet insurrection, which has placed the US on a collision course with China, a superpower with 1.4 billion people and thermonuclear weapons which can strike US cities, a far cry from the helpless and defenseless targets preferred by the neocons. It is an open secret that Zbig intends to attempt a color revolution or CIA people power coup in China under the cover of the Beijing Olympics later this year. He may also make the Taiwan crisis explode. The dangers of these lunatic policies are infinitely worse than anything that could ever come out of the Middle East.

Senator Jay Rockefeller and Trilateral/BIlderberger boss Joseph Nye are also actively campaigning for Obama. Nye is the theoretician of "soft power," a new form of imperialist aggression based on economic warfare, subversion, deception, and people power coups. They want Obama to mobilize soft power to give a face lift to US imnperialism.

How do you think they got the gazillion square miles in the first place?

oil anyone!

Georgia is NATO's new little lap puppy.

Well, puppy got run over.

well we may get a chance to use those nuclear stockpiles after all..

"Maybe obama can talk to them and sing Kumbaya and everything will be OK"

I understand The One got tough with Putin and told him to withdraw his ships out of Savannah harbor and his troops out of Atlanta or else. He said he would NOT stand for this invasion of our 55th state. He Is Who He Is will get real serious if the Russian troops advance as far as the border of Alabama.

Isn't Georgia part of NATO?

Nope, Georgia may have thought being promised membership at some future point, and Bush shaking his booty for them, meant NATO would help them if they poked the bear.
Oops.

Now the Rooskies are claiming Bush gave the Georgians the green light to try and retake the Ossetia province.
This whole fiasco is startting to smelllike Herbie Bush telling Saddam it was cool to invade the disputed part of Kuwait, but then crapping his pants when saddam took it all. Bush has however, strongly told Pution he could only bomb parts of Georgia, not all of it. That'll learn him.

Bottom line-dig into your pockets, kiddies, we're gonna be buying Georgia and the Ukranine a whole new military.

Why the U.S. sided with the Albanians I'll never know.

Something silly about the serbs lining up muslims and shooting them a la Nazis and jews....

Putin is more powerful, and clever, now he is Prime Minister.
Bush is a President and a Chicken.....

"Now the Rooskies are claiming Bush gave the Georgians the green light to try and retake the Ossetia province."
Sort of like when Bushco told Saddam that the white house would consider it "a Muslim problem" if Irak decided to invade Kuwait.

Just the opening salvo in Russia's attempt to recreate the Soviet Union. And, since they have people believing the Georgians started the war, they will be pulling the same ruse in other countries. Do wonder how it will go when they pull something like this on Ukraine. And, it is very definitely my opinion that, if they away with it in Georgia, the Baltics and Ukraine are next.

"If Russia had forces right next to the US border, and was putting missles there(Cuba) wouldn't the US defend it self?"

Yeah, Russia's standard excuse. As if the US or any of their neighbors is interested in attacking it. But reality was never Communist Russia's strong point.

Why aren't we hearing about Russian casualties? Are we to believe that no Russians were killed? No planes shot down? No tanks destroyed?
Have they not killed any civilians? Bombed any non military targets?

Is the press only interested when the US is involved in a conflict?

It's going to take a President like Obama to stand up to the guy.

"I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia's territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis."

Wait. What I meant to say was...

"I condemn Russia's aggressive actions and reiterate my call for an immediate ceasefire... Russia must stop its bombing campaign, cease flights of Russian aircraft in Georgian airspace, and withdraw its ground forces from Georgia."

I love the "I reiterate my call..." Who are you and why should anyone care what you call for?

The lack of geopolitical awareness on the DR rears its head again, but c'mon people, use your heads: This has little to do with Iraq, Bush, Kosovo etc., and everything to do with force projection by Mother Russia, fear of Georgian inclusion in NATO and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

Putin et al. are gauging EU, UN and NATO response to their incursion into Georgia and showing that the Bear still has claws. So far, NATO, the UN and the EU have shown that they have nothing, and this will only embolden the Russians to start expanding their influence in the rest of the former Warsaw Pact.

Rightocenter ha nailed it. This is Putin's step one in restoring Russia to its "rightful" place as world's co-number-one. As he has been telling the Russian people for quite a few years now.

Randy Scheunemann, McCain's top foreign policy adviser, lobbied for the Georgian government from 2004 to 2006 - a connection that could further reverberate as the crisis unfolds.

Mcsame has offered to get shot down over Ossetia and make videos apologizing for America's intervention. It'll be interesting to see if he goes after Dubya for not offering to liberate georgia.

Jeffndenmark,

You lost me somewhere along the way. You said;

The Georgians, as a puppet front for the New World Order, attacked first and killed 1500 local civilians .

Then you were talking about the bildenbergers supporting Obama for the American Imperialists agenda.

Aren't the bilenbergers and the new world order crowd one in the same?

It seems to me an American Imperialists movement and the new world order movement would be at cross purposes if it is like you say.

Please enlighten me how all this fits together.

Why aren't we hearing about Russian casualties? Are we to believe that no Russians were killed? No planes shot down? No tanks destroyed?
Have they not killed any civilians? Bombed any non military targets?

Is the press only interested when the US is involved in a conflict?

Haven't read the news, have you? Russia has admitted several aircrft were shot down and there is ample coverage of casualties and civilian targets on both sides. Except of FOXSKI News, where the Russians are reported a Mission Akkomplishki'd.

And its like an airliner crash-hardly worth noting unless Americans were on board.

Wow! I can't believe that there are people that are so thick, that they believe that Obama is going to be the New American Hero and save the day.
BTW, I still don't change my prediction about Hillary being the next president.
The election farce in America has become so corrupt, and out right ridiculous, and the American people so gullible and stupid that they will buy any stinking piece of shit lie that the corporate media spoon feeds them.
If Hillary came flying into the Dem convention on a broom, black hat, black dress, wart on her nose, and cackling that hideous laugh of hers, and the media said she was the second coming of Christ Ya'll would believe it, and run worshiping to her feet.
Especially if the globalist set of a nuke somewhere in the world first.
