Some outraged Christian supporters of Barack Obama are claiming that John McCain's campaign is intentionally stoking fears of the Antichrist with an online ad attacking Obama.

If there's anything to this particular eschatology, there wiil be no warning of the advent of the Anti-Christ.

It will take everyone by surprise, including the religous, millions of whom will support him whole-heartedly.

One of my co-workers, he's way out there on the nutty right-wing zealot scale, has been saying for months that Obama is the anti-christ. When I showed him that commercial he said that was exactly the message it was sending about Obama.

What a bunch of idiots. They are no different than the people who want to see racism in everything or the people who played the Beatles records backwards and found messages from satan when I was a kid. They need to get counseling or something so they can get back to reality.

I agree with Zed, if the real thing happens it will catch *everyone* by surprise. Cripe, if you read the accounts most people did not know Jesus was *Jesus*...

ahhh yes the lunacy of religious myth esp. the messiah complex.

I worry that, especially as the Millennium edges nearer, pseudoscience and superstition will seem year by year more tempting, the siren song of unreason more sonorous and attractive. Where have we heard it before? Whenever our ethnic or national prejudices are aroused, in times of scarcity, during challenges to national self-esteem or nerve, when we agonize about our diminished cosmic place and purpose, or when fanaticism is bubbling up around us-then, habits of thought familiar from ages past reach for the controls.

The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles. Darkness gathers. The demons begin to stir. [Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science As a Candle in the Dark]

The point is not what the eschatology of the coming of the antichrist is, but of McCain's sleazy attempts to smear Obama by playing on the fears and hatreds of ignorant and superstitious morons.

Are you Kidding? What a bunch of whackos' and besides lefties don't believe there is a God, so there obviously isn't any Anti_Christ False Prophet or any of that. So why are they whining. I thought it was funny, Most people who worship him like some kind of demi-god are now all embarrassed because that ad show how ridiculous it is to worship a man. and now they are trying to say "that commercial is bad, Because it makes us look like drooling idiots who will follow anyone who says something flowery"..As Bugs Bunny would say "what a maroon'

This ad is funny--complete sarcasm!

The writer of the article is incorrect, by the way---The parting of the Red Sea in the "Ten Commandments" was not accomplished through animation. They flimed huge amounts of water fortified with gelatin in an humongous tank.

Where Sagan went wrong is with the notion materialism, as he thought best exemplified through science, banishes demons.

The realm of demons is the black-and-white, the hot sunshine and freezing darkness of pure, unrelenting, unmerciful materialism.

This may help explain why demons seek to possess human beings from time-to-time. If nothing else, it's an escape from Hell.

This is usually where a local astronomer makes my case by telling me I should die now.

Who ever would've guessed there are two anti-Christs? Dick Cheney and now Obama. It's a small world after all.

I don't really believe in the stuff from Revelations, but I had a room mate in college who believed every word... including the stuff that wasn't in there...

Have to admit in kind of a silly way, that Obama's ubrer supporters mind me of the way he would talk about what was supposedly to come. Not Obama, just his diehard followers... they give me the creeps, but Obama is a good man...

People who take themselves too seriously do not get sarcasm. That is what these adds are, sarcasm. The reaction of Obama and his supporters shows their sillyness.

Adds? Is that multiple ADD?

I am embarrassed to call myself a Christian cause fellow Christians actually believe this crap.

I am an Evangelical.

Neither Obama nor McCain has my vote yet.

Obama is not a Muslim, though he may have Muslim friends --- nothing wrong with that. (I have Hindu and Buddhist friends).

This anti-Christ complex is ridiculous.

In Revelation, there is no such thing as the 7 years tribulation and antichrist ruling the end-time world. It is only a forced interpretation promoted by the likes of Hal Lindsay, Tim Lahe, Jack Van Impe, etc.

So, McCain's new tactic is "HA HA, HA HA, You're popular and I'M NOT! So there!"

Great strategy!

Oh.....and the 'Obama is the Antichrist' argument, RUN WITH IT. It makes you look and sound so completely rational. Stick with it!

who believed every word... including the stuff that wasn't in there...

well said.

wait, wait...I'm confused. The *left* doesn't believe in God or organized religion.
So how does one explain the existence of Obama the black Jesus/messiah?
Oh...I get it...his very existence is a miracle.

Given the absurdity of your post, IAMKRASH, the miracle is your existence. I wonder why consuming the "Do Not Eat" packages in microwave popcorn boxes hasn't claimed your life previously?

"The *left* doesn't believe in God or organized religion.
So how does one explain the existence of Obama the black Jesus/messiah?"

Easy. It's always---and only---the language of the righties.

I'm not sure what you mean by "organized", but millions of the Left do believe in God and religion. In fact, I'd expect a minority or Lefties to be Godless.

ZED...

actually I prefer silica gel desiccant packets..much tastier...better than the stead diet of anal lube and diet coke you consume. Why you haven't expired long ago IS indeed a miracle...douche bag.

Cheers!

~Zed

Does Godless really get capitalized?

"Father, is saying 'douche-bag' a curse?"

"That would depend upon the context in which it is used."

"How about, 'Julie you're a douche-bag for kissing Brad'?

"It's a curse".

Father, is saying 'douche-bag' a curse?"

Well my Son both terms involve the same hole..

Antichrist?

End times?
This religious nonsense has to go.

CNN is having a program tonight called "God's Warriors."

What a load of mindbending propaganda nonsense.

IF there is a God (and that's a BIG if), he doesn't need humans to fight wars for him, which shows the utter nonsense of this view.

In a sensible world, religion should NOT figure into "real" life matters like foreign policy, domestic policy, or politics in general.

"In a sensible world...."

Gets us into the very, very big question as to what constitutes a sensible world without the notion of God.

You see God as interjecting irrationality into human affairs while I see Him as providing a rope to escape that.

Without God, as so many human beings have already demonstrated, Nash's Equilibrium becomes the new deity.

That is, do what you can to maximize outcomes. And never forget that within every cooperative game there is a competitive one waiting to escape.

Let me give you an example of what I mean---There was no reason for WWI needed to be fought in 1914, or ever.

The question of why there was a war then at all has often puzzled historians. The best explanation for it to date is this---

All major belligerants had plans for mobilization. As soon as one actor mobilized, it created an incentive for other actors to mobilize or find themselves at immense disadvantage.

After mobilization there was an incentive for who finished that first to attack while other actors continued to catch up with him.

All of this is purely "rational" behavior. Do what you can to ensure you have the best chance to get the most.

But, had the various European states behaved as Christians and not Nashian "rational actors"---No WWI.

And, given there never was WWI, no WWII and Hitler.

Hmmm, good example, and a very interesting point.

Rational Behavior = ME first, you second.

Wait...let me read that again... Okay. So, when the Christians were lopping off the heads of masons during the Pope Innocent's Crusade, or burning 'witches' (read lesbians) in Europe or America...they were being decent human beings.

When the spanish inquisition occured, and they wre torturing non-belieevers for their lack of Godliness,

these were heros.

Right?

There is nothing worse than a religious believer who thinks he is a rationalist AND a philosopher.
