Stay out of Macon... its a shithole.

Well, shouldn't we intervene if we are trying to spread democracy and end tyrany across the globe? Come on George, bomb the hell out of Moscow.

What Rob said.

But seriously... Russia's been itching to show the world they're no has beens for over a decade now.

Aint no way to delay that trouble comin' every day.

From reading a few other news sites on this it sounds like its going to get a whole lot worse...

Russia is bombing them, Georgia claims to have shot down some Russian planes... not good.

We need to sell arms to georgia and have the cia train them in their use.
Specifically anti-aircraft missiles and tank busters.

When they're done with Georgia, they can help us with Iran. They can keep the top half.

From this article, it seems the Georgians instigated this fight. Not too bright.

I'd draw a line in the sand at the Alabama state line.

And during the Olympics too

What nerve

s.o.p. The rightwing asshole government over there fucked up the russian economy, so now they have to go to war with someone to distract the masses. Rightwingers are the same everywhere...

Minsk makes it look like Vegas.
How do you say "away game" in Rooskie?

"s.o.p. The rightwing asshole government over there fucked up the russian economy, so now they have to go to war with someone to distract the masses. Rightwingers are the same everywhere..."

Except communists are ususally considered left wing. And all the old communists are the ones who are either running the government or the crime syndicates - both of whom pretty have the same effect on the Russian economy by demanding constant bribes and payoffs. Putin was a communist official.

Right an left wingers both know that war is good for the machines of production.

Go Crazy Ivan! Bomb those fuckers back to the bronze age!

I want a REAL war! If we are gonna waste all of the tax payers dollars war, we might as well fight a REAL opponent.

At this moment, some poor Private Jessika Lynchski is fighting off a Georgian tank Division with nothing but a borscht kettle. FOXSKI TV will be all over it.

Except that the "communist" party in russia was and still is about as communist as hitler was. They stand for the same rightwing ideal: complete and total central control of everything. Doing it through fictional "private" corporations is no different than doing it through "public" ones. In both cases the assholes in charge run the show from behind the scenes. And when they fuck up or can't get something they want through mercenaries/terrorism, they declare war on it.

Hell, they an have Georga, ad Detroit and LA, and well the list goes on and on.

Shawn - The communist party in Russia is no different than the communist party anywhere the communist party has control of things. This is the natural result of communism on a national scale. Someone has to do the central planning in a centrally planned society. And those someones inevitably abuse their power. Despite this obvious flaw, some left wingers still embrace the ideology.

But since it turned about to be "bad", you label it right wing. By your "logic", ANY abusive government is right wing. So using these standards governments aren't abusive because they are right wing. They are right wing because they are abusive.

Woooo! Red menace is back!

Let's rock!

YYYYYYEEEEEEEHHHHHAAAAWWWW!!!

This is all about three letters of the alphabet:

Those letters: N R G.

No. It didn't 'turn out' to be anything. It always WAS a bunch of reichwing assholes controlling the show. Even the Russian people didn't believe the propaganda: national socialism to achieve the communist ideal. Just look at the number of people Stalin killed to stay in power there.

However, your point does happen to lopsidedly stumble into a truth: left/right is as false a dicotomy as coke vs. pepsi.

I suppose I will clarify my above statements for those who don't read between the lines: the people in power start wars to distract their publics when if left alone, those indigenous populaces would naturally revolt against their government/corporate masters for their excesses with that power.

In common usage, the term rightwing is used to dissemniate between portions of the populace who constantly parrot the party line of the powerfull against the majority of people who want the corporate/government monkey off their backs. That was what I was attempting to convey.

This is great news for Neocons with the Iraq war winding down and the War on Terror now being shifted more to a "law enforcement" type problem, the return of the Cold War is just what the MIlitary Industrial Complex needed.

Yep. No mullet wearing, bowling crazed lezbo from Florida can stop it.

YYYYEEEEHHHHAAAWWW!!!!

The bear is back, and they have nukes.

This time we won't be able to outspend them militarily, because the price of oil is so high they're raking in the $$... well, rubles, but you get the idea.

Unless they start invading and taking over the old soviet bloc nations there is no need to try to defeat the russians in any way... best just to ignore them this time around.

"This is great news for Neocons with the Iraq war winding down and the War on Terror now being shifted more to a "law enforcement" type problem, the return of the Cold War is just what the MIlitary Industrial Complex needed"

I don't agree Danni. I think that the neocons greatly underestimated Russia's capacity in their fervor to transform the middle east. Russia is the only country that could conceviably defeat Neocon desires to bomb Iran into submission or to keep a constant state of conflict in the region in the interest of energy supplies.

Beign a child of the cold war and someone actively engaged in armed conflict with communist elements in Grenada, it was ALWAYS imprinted into my mind: "Beware of the Bear". Many thought the bear would come internally, and it has, American style, but now the old bear is back in action and wanting to flex its muscles.

Russia used to be content with just having theuir hockey players dominate the NHL. Now with this country busy sniffing its own dirty underwear she is boldly re-asserting itself.

"However, your point does happen to lopsidedly stumble into a truth: left/right is as false a dicotomy as coke vs. pepsi."

Actually Coke vs. Pepsi has some substance to it. Pepsi tastes like ass. And I'm not the one who favored once "wing" over the other so I didn't stumble onto anything.

"In common usage, the term rightwing is used to dissemniate between portions of the populace who constantly parrot the party line of the powerfull against the majority of people who want the corporate/government monkey off their backs. That was what I was attempting to convey."

But some people will use what is considered "left wing" ideology in order to gain power and then exploit everyone else. Basically, once you define yourself as subscribing to ANY ideology that is spoonfed to you by others, you are easily manipulated. Right wingers and left wingers are the same thing: People who have their beliefs fed to them by a group. By using the term "right wing" to describe all the bad governments in the world, you give the impression that it is OK for people to blindly follow "left wingers" - which is equally as dangerous because its the same goddam thing.

Communists are the same from country to country. In other words the Russian Communists that invaded Georgia have essentially the same ideology as the Communists we hate in China, that have essentially the same ideology that guides Obama's proposed domestic economic policy.

There is no reason for us to interfere. There is no national interest at stake...besides, we resolved the issue as to whether a part of a country can leave (secede) the union. We said "no". I think Russia has the same right....unless we were wrong....

Now, if they annex the Sudetenland.....

Not even Russia can stop the Israelis and that is who America is going to rely on to smack Iran with... then if Iran were to retaliate by attacking our troops in the region, there is nothing the Russians could do to prevent us from defending ourselves.

Oh goodie!

More WAR!

-the Neocons

There is no national interest at stake...besides, we resolved the issue as to whether a part of a country can leave (secede) the union. We said "no". I think Russia has the same right....unless we were wrong....

Other than oil and NATO. And, since Russia is supporting a breakaway part of Georgia, aren't they on the wrong side?

Sully-I was going to respond to Shawn to say basically the same thing, but you beat me to it and said it much more eloquently than I would, probably. So I second your response.

A Citizen -- I'm not too sure of the particulars, but I've read from multiple sources that all communism is actually not the same, and in fact Russian and Chinese communism have some rather fundamental differences that create a bit of animosity between the two sides. Of course, the fact that you're labeling Obama a communist probably goes to show that you WANT to label anything left of center as "communist," not even bothering to stop at "socialist" along the way. At any rate, from what I gather, it's actually the Georgians who are attempting to maintain unity within their country by trying to keep control over their own break-away republic. This almost (ALMOST) seems to be Georgia's Chechnya.

BTW, for everybody, I'm a little confused on the sequence of events here. Can anybody help me out?

1. South Ossetia wants to break away from Georgia basically as soon as Georgia breaks away from the former USSR.

2. Georgia wants to keep S. Ossetia and sets up a peace-keeping deal wherein security will be divided between Georgians, Russians, and S. Ossetians.

3. Fast forward about 15 years, and some S. Ossetian separatists attack Georgian interests.

4. Georgia retaliates in some manner.

5. Russia sends in more "peace-keeping troops" to S. Ossetia and also attack a few Georgian targets.

6. Georgia retaliates against Russia and supposedly take S. Ossetia's capital city.

Is this about right so far, or did I screw something up or miss something? Seems like a rather sticky situation all around.

Again robthestupidjackass is dead wrong. Israel can't do diddly squat without support from the american ecnonomy. While it is true that Israel can field a large well equipped army, it would have to shut down its economy to do it. Meanwhile the American economy goes further down the shitter in pursuit of fascist dreams of complete world power.

Sadly, many like the above formentioned, continue to parrot the desires of the ulta-powerful while Americans lose their houses, and the dollar becomes a junk bond.

Will Americans continue to allow the formentioned armchair samurai cocksuckers to dictate policy? I don't know. What I do know is that both parties are bought by the same powerful interests that don't care about their respective indigenous populaces at all.

"Communists are the same from country to country. In other words the Russian Communists that invaded Georgia have essentially the same ideology as the Communists we hate in China, that have essentially the same ideology that guides Obama's proposed domestic economic policy."

When you post nonsense like that do you think anyone with a brain takes it seriously???

I hope Obama lets the Israelis know that if they choose to bomb before he takes office that he will make damn sure they receive not on cent of American aid while he is president.

Sorry to interrupt the usual Drudge political circle jerk but maybe a little history and demographics might be helpful:

"South Ossetia is inhabited mostly by ethnic Ossetians who speak a language remotely related to Farsi. Georgians account for less than one-third of the population.

"It came as no surprise when South Ossetians voted overwhelmingly in favour of restating their demand for independence from Tbilisi in an unrecognised referendum in November 2006. A simultaneous referendum among the region's ethnic Georgians voted just as emphatically to stay with Tbilisi. Compromise seems a long way off."

...if Israel were to attack the wrong target, it would be considered an attack on Russia. This was at virtually the same time that Dubyah made the push for increased drilling in the U.S.

What tech do you think the Iranians will get to defend themselves with when the attack comes?

This is a test to see what the US is going to do. We recently had US military training in Georgia with Georgian military. Georgia is pulling their troops from Iraq to address this conflagration with Russia.
This is the US and Russia playing chicken through their surrogates.

I hope Obama lets the Israelis know that if they choose to bomb before he takes office that he will make damn sure they receive not on cent of American aid while he is president.

LOL

Come on Danni...read his AIPAC speeches.

Attack on Israel is an attack on the US. Just like an attack on Iran will be an attack on Russia.

Allegedly these "exercises" ended on July 26. I wonder if there are still US troops in the area?

Help us with Iran?

Putin was backing Iran because he needed instability in the ME to keep the price of his oil inflated. As long as there is some question as to the stability, Putin's Oil is worth a fortune and it makes it much easier for him and his new puppet protege to retain power.

Georgia requesting US support.

Bush gets his ass kicked by a few camel-riding towelheads in dresses and flip flops in afghanistan and a few dead-enders in Iraq and Georgia is counting on HIM?

They might as well sign their Peace with Honorable Mention agreement with Russia right now.

They stand for the same rightwing ideal: complete and total central control of everything
Shawn your a "got damn" fool.

So north"fool" thinks US lost/is losing in Iraq. I think the northBi is a "got damn" fool.

actually northBi is probably a union worker on leave after filing a grievance against his boss for stubbing his toe. Living off the public teat.

Let me tell you, once again seeing lines in the news like "Russian troops advancing..." and "Russian tanks in major offensive..." and "Russian jets bombing..." is bringing a shitload of sharp feelings and memories back to me. It has been SOOOO long since i've felt this particualr chill its quite scary.

I don't know how to explain it-- its an icy cold fear but at the same time its glorious and meaningful and gives some clarity to my sometimes muddled middle-aged existence. This is the feeling I felt for the first thirty years of my life...

The commies are back on the march!

Martial law declared in Georgia.

I say 'great'!

Russia's attacking Georgia?
OK!
When do we invade Ecuador?

What is sad that even on the Drudge Retort the John Edwards thing is taking the main headline when this is the more breaking news.

Why?

Well, even a puttering middle-aged has-been like me has friends still in interesting places who can provide info on what's going on over in Georgia.

Apaprently there is quite a bit of Israeli influence over this whole affair-- big surprise, huh?

Yes, it involves energy resources and pipelines along the Caspian. Yes it involves Iran. Yes this will evolve into long awaited and drawn-out separatist wars in this area. An all-out cold-war proxy war is taking shape before our eyes, friends, pay heed.

Right now, Russia is EXTREMELY pissed off at Israel. Pissed off enough to consider some sort of unconventional punishment. Just keep that in mind and go back to the John Edwards story.

Had Georgia been admitted into NATO as they wish, the United States would today be at war with Russia.

I haven't been able to substantiate this, but keep a watch.

Massive US Naval Armada Heads For Iran
Operation Brimstone ended only one week ago. This was the joint US/UK/French naval war games in the Atlantic Ocean preparing for a naval blockade of Iran and the likely resulting war in the Persian Gulf area. The massive war games included a US Navy supercarrier battle group, an US Navy expeditionary carrier battle group, a Royal Navy carrier battle group, a French nuclear hunter-killer submarine plus a large number of US Navy cruisers, destroyers and frigates playing the "enemy force".

If this is true, WWIII is coming to us soon.

Bingo. I got confirmation from the Jerusalem Post.

'2 US aircraft carriers headed for Gulf'
By ADAM GONN, THE MEDIA LINE NEWS AGENCY

Two additional United States naval aircraft carriers are heading to the Gulf and the Red Sea, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper Kuwait Times.

Russia plays down talks of tougher sanctions against Iran

Kuwait began finalizing its "emergency war plan" on being told the vessels were bound for the region.

The US Navy would neither confirm nor deny that carriers were en route. US Fifth Fleet Combined Maritime Command located in Bahrain said it could not comment due to what a spokesman termed "force-protection policy."

While the Kuwaiti daily did not name the ships it believed were heading for the Middle East, The Media Line's defense analyst said they could be the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Ronald Reagan.

Within the last month, the Roosevelt completed an exercise along the US east coast focusing on communication among navies of different countries. It has since been declared ready for operational duties. The Reagan, currently with the Seventh Fleet, had just set sail from Japan.

www.jpost.com
The naval fleet on its way to impose a blockade around Iran, a certain act of war.

The Roosevelt and the Reagan?
I can understand the Roosevelt-but-the Reagan is liable to have the same kind of "meltdowns" ol' ronnie used to have-we're lucky the crew hasn't yet been stranded somewhere in the middle of the Ocean with the ship going in circles....

it's none of our business!! call the UN!

1% of the global oil flows through Georgia....

It may not be none of our business, but our business will be affected.

What is sad that even on the Drudge Retort the John Edwards thing is taking the main headline when this is the more breaking news.

Ditto.
The American economy is imploding.
Bush gave the go for an attack on Iran, setting us up for a three front war.
Georgia is an American ally.
Bush has been pushing NATO and missiles in their faces.

The Russians have timed the invasion of Georgia just when the attack on Iran is months away. (see above) I take this as a warning to Bush not to attack Iran. I doubt he'll heed the warning.

"Georgia declares state of war with Russia"
www.cnn.com

Never underestimate the ability of Washington to make enemies all over the world.

Georgia, US start military exercises despite tensions with Russia

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) Georgian and U.S. troops started a joint military exercise Tuesday amid growing tensions between the ex-Soviet republic and Russia, a Georgian defense ministry official said.

About 1,200 U.S. servicemen and 800 Georgians will train for three weeks at the Vaziani military base near the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, ministry spokesman Mindiya Arabuli said. He said the drills were planned months ago and are not related to recent tensions over two separatist Georgian regions that are backed by Moscow.

So go ahead morons. Vote for McCain or Obama. You deserve the hell you're asking for.

Georgia has now declared war on Russia.

Uh-oh, here comes Mr. Laughs.

Why aren't you standing on a corner with a "The End Is Near!" placard?

From the article;

The Georgian "state of war" order is not a formal declaration of war, and stops short of declaring martial law, according to Georgian officials who described it to CNN.

It gives Saakashvili powers he would not ordinarily have, such as issuing curfews, restricting the movement of people, or limiting commercial activities, those officials said.

you can tell that this is a big deal when you watch the mclaughlin group

they were all screaming at each other all at the same time which happens a lot but also when there is a real story too......

stay out of macon.........ha......funny stuff

Geopolitics is a fascinating topic. The politicians never give the real reasons for their crimes.

The Russians may just bear with the pro-US Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvilis ambition to bring his country into NATO. But they draw a heavy line against his plans and those of Western oil companies, including Israeli firms, to route the oil routes from Azerbaijan and the gas lines from Turkmenistan, which transit Georgia, through Turkey instead of hooking them up to Russian pipelines.

Saakashvili need only back away from this plan for Moscow to ditch the two provinces revolt against Tbilisi. As long as he sticks to his guns, South Ossetia and Abkhazia will wage separatist wars.

Last year, the Georgian president commissioned from private Israeli security firms several hundred military advisers, estimated at up to 1,000, to train the Georgian armed forces in commando, air, sea, armored and artillery combat tactics. They also offer instruction on military intelligence and security for the central regime. Tbilisi also purchased weapons, intelligence and electronic warfare systems from Israel.

These advisers were undoubtedly deeply involved in the Georgian armys preparations to conquer the South Ossetian capital Friday.

In recent weeks, Moscow has repeatedly demanded that Jerusalem halt its military assistance to Georgia, finally threatening a crisis in bilateral relations. Israel responded by saying that the only assistance rendered Tbilisi was defensive.--

This has not gone down well in the Kremlin. Therefore, as the military crisis intensifies in South Ossetia, Moscow may be expected to punish Israel for its intervention.
