I first heard about this yesterday from mi esposa and went digging for information, here's some of what I found.
*They PG County Police went shopping for a SWAT team to execute the home invasion that subsequently occurred.
*They police were aware of at least 6 other similar packages of weed being delivered to other addresses. Did this not set off any bells in anyones minds?
*The PG Police are still claiming that they had a "no knock warrant". OOOOPS, it turns out that a judge denied them a no knock warrant.
*Calvo asked to see a copy of the warrant while he was handcuffed on the floor in his skivvies. He was not shown a warrant, in fact, an office delivered a copy of the warrant 2 days later.
*The local police were not involved or notified about the raid and the culpable officers were in street clothes. That could have resulted in a cop on cop old west shootout if things had gone differently.
This is simply one more example of the police state mentality that 9/11 has brought into all of our lives. As a big time dog lover this really frosts me, if they felt threatened by the dogs why didn't they use pepper spray? Why didn't they talkk with the local police who could have gotten them into the house without the need for drawn guns?
Quite simply, this is going to get really ugly for what's pretty obviously a corrupt police agency. There is another litigation pending for another dog shooting when the PG Police went to the wrong house and shot the folks dog after they asked to be allowed to get the dog in their control. Some officer strangled a suspect in a jail cell who was being held on suspicion of shooting another cop. He was alone in the cell and noone had access to the suspect except cops on duty. I hope they not only sue the county for a brazillion bucks and win it but I hope that all involved in this get jail time.
PS. If the ignorant fucking police chief had apologized for the mistake right away this would probably be a non-event but now the FBI has engaged to investigate this as a civil rights case. I hope it goes very ugly for the PG Police.
