With two weeks to go before their national convention, a number of Democrats are saying that John Edwards needs to publicly address National Enquirer stories that allege he fathered her baby with a campaign worker.

"Papa was a rolling stone, my son.

Well, well.

Hey Mama, is it true what they say,
that Papa never worked a day in his life?
And Mama, bad talk going around town
saying that Papa had three outside children and another wife.
And that ain't right.
HEARD SOME talk about Papa doing some store front preaching.
TalkIN about saving souls and all the time leeching.
Dealing in debt and stealing in the name of the Law (Ha!)

Edwards new speech will be on The Perils of Gettin' Some Strange. And helping those darn poor people. But mostly the strange.

Cockfish and Ooogah....

Listen guys, I realize Mr. Edwards is a good looking white guy and your toes are tapping a mile a minute every time you think of him, but your obsession is getting embarassing!!!

Why don't you lovers just get a room and do a little anal spelunking on each other and spare us your crap?

The question is (besides why does Axe always produce homosexual rants), will Barry and the DNC toss Edwards under the bus like so many before him, and not let him speak or play at their reindeer games in Denver?

Friends and former staffers refuse to comment now, though they helped Edwards last fall by dismissing an October story in the Enquirer of a sexual relationship between Edwards and a campaign videographer when it initially broke.

"Sorry cannot help you on this one," wrote Jennifer Palmieri, a former top Edwards aide, in an e-mail Wednesday.

"This one?" Just how many of them ARE there?

But this story has been ceded to the internet, where Slate's Mickey Kaus asks, "Will this be the first presidential-contender-level scandal to occur completely in the undernews, without ever being reported in the cautious, respectable MSM?"

I, for one, hope not. We in the MSM had so much fun with the Gary Hart-Donna Rice scandal back in 1987, and this one looks to be just as good. In that one, you may recall, the Miami Herald staked out presidential contender Hart's townhouse and saw the lovely ex-model leaving it. The Enquirer contributed the famous photo of Rice sitting on Hart's lap on a yacht appropriately named "Monkey Business."

This story is NOT going away, and will only gain momentum as the Enquirer releases more photos and information right around convention time. Ha! Should prove a great distraction.

I think Barry Soetoro has some splainin' of his own to do.

God I love how much shit is being thrown at Edwards' life... I hope it just keeps getting worse.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer scumbag...

It was Clintons' penis dammit!

Clinton's penis caused Greenlands ice to melt! He shot his jizz all over it and it melted!

Clinton's penis is causing gas prices to rise! All that the cum on that interns dress is destroying all the oil all over the planet! Believe it!

Clintons' penis allowed Hitler to rise to power! Nevermind the fact that he wasn't born until 1946! It was still his fault!

Excellent. I heard that Clinton's penis was the man on the grassy knoll.

But, for edwards. You hard-core party-liners need to realize that there are lot's of republicans and other neo-cons that would like to see the whole democratic party flushed down the toilet.

Either clean up your own house or have it cleaned for you.

Edwards response: Yes, I had an affair and John McCain was my inspiration for it.

His wife was in a debilitating accident, my wife has a debilitating disease. He stepped out on his wife and ended up marrying one of the women he was messing around with. She was a wealthy blond heiress with a hot bod, essentially the late-70's version of Paris Hilton. Paris doesn't have an addiction to stolen drugs so it's not exactly the same but it's pretty close.

I want everyone to know that Paris and I have already obtained a marriage license and my divorce will be final in a few weeks.

I don't have time for questions because I have to get home to bang Paris. Before I get out of here I'd just to say thank you to John McCain, I've learned a lot from the example you've set.

Wow... How happy are you to be able to talk about penises and semen this much... geez buddy some guys are nervous about coming out of the closet, but you kick the door down so hard all that's left are splinters and you poster of Hayden Christiansen...

My take on Edward's infidelity is "Yawn." I have sympathy for his wife and family and wish John would have had better sense. It's sad for their family but really none of my business.

While Obama was inflating his tires, Edwards was inflating something else.

Those Democrats are such an inspiration!

Danni didn't even reply to you... what are you talking about? Your post was odd and creepy... but hey if you want to say "penis" 70 times in one post that's your lifestyle choice... Who am I to judge...

"My take on Edward's infidelity is "Yawn." I have sympathy for his wife and family and wish John would have had better sense. It's sad for their family but really none of my business."

Your take is confused and wrong as usual, since the thread isn't about Edwards' infidelity, so much as about what the DNC and Obama are going to to to either censor or eliminate him from the convention because of it. RIF

And as for this being a "Yawn", I guess that papers like The Hartford Courant, The Dallas Morning News, Kansas City Star, and outlets like The Drudge Report and UPI are all idiots for covering this. And you're just stuck there with that wheelbarrow for that big ol' brain of yours.

Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

So now the Pubs are getting their ideas and talking points from the National Enquirer? Way to raise the bar guys.

Not sure if you understand the difference between a story and a talking point.

The story is Edwards the scumbag lawyer ran out on his fat cancerous wife and kids to pork a nasty looking woman and had a kid with her...

the talking point is he deserves everything that's happening to him because of his past actions...

The National Enquirer has earned a reputation for being right about celebrity scandal news, TFDNihilist. I don't know if they're right here (and I waited until the story broke in the mainstream to pass it along), but the birth certificate and Edwards' presence at that L.A. hotel are both pretty dicey.

If they're wrong, Edwards should have come out aggressively and sued the paper for libel.

In any case, I suspect that Edwards has mostly become a footnote after two unsuccessful presidential campaigns and one losing vice presidential effort. He wasn't going to be chosen by Obama anyway, and I don't think a 2012 or 2016 bid would've been viable.

You don't think maybe there was even consideration for a cabinet position or some type of role in Obama's administration... I could have seen that happening given they were pretty close on the issues.

If they're wrong, Edwards should have come out aggressively and sued the paper for libel.

The thought that Edwards, of all people, hasn't sued yet is pretty damning.

The "controversy" about Edwards speaking at the convention is silly considering all the Clintons who will be speaking, there won't be time for any other philanderers. I hope John McCain gets an opportunity to lecture Edwards on the importance of marital fidelity.

and I'm sure if John McCain had done the same as Edwards, every newspaper in the country would have it as front page news for at least a month.

The silence is deafening, ain't it Democrats?

Newsworthy flag.

To me the real story here is not that Edwards cheated on his wife and what that says about his character...

The story is that the MSM is not covering this. They cover some pastor who cheats, cripe look at the silly un-founded story the NYT put on the front page about McCain. This is just another example of how the MSM covers for the Dems.

Oh yea, if you say they covered the pastor and McCain because they are hypocrites, you need to take a look at Edwards. He is trotting his cancerous wife out there during the campaign telling everyone how much he loves her, etc. If he has a love child, then that would be somewhat hypocritical as well.

BS - You realize you are comparing a scandal involving a guy who has not help public office for 4 years and is not running for office with a sitting Senator and Party nominee? Do you no see any difference between the two?

Don't remember the Clinton sex scandal? Yeah, the media overlooked that one.

You think this would be front page news if it were Obama? I'm sure there would be no "baby-momma" comments in the press. Oh wait, Fox News already made those about Obama's wife and mother of his children.

One more thing, McCain did do the same thing, it just happened to be 30 years ago.

Jonny,
He was running for something a few months ago when he carted his wife around with him and was professing his undying love. Unless I'm mistaken that affair would be taking place at that time.

When everyone jumped on the Larry Craig scandal, and rightfully so, it was because of his hypocricy. Yet this time around nobody is jumping on Edwards for his...

Yeah, they really jumped on the Craig story, several months after his arrest and several weeks after he entered a guilty plea.

Edwards is being pronounced guilty by some before he's even responded.

Yeah, who ever heard of the Craig story? Nobody talked about that...

I think what you meant to say is no one talked about Craig until after he had his day in court and his chance to have his say.

"Yet this time around nobody is jumping on Edwards for his..."

I'm thinking Elizabeth is probably jumping on him about now. I think he will lie low for a long time.
He is history.

I think what you meant to say is no one talked about Craig until after he had his day in court and his chance to have his say.

The fact that nobody knew about it until Roll Call found out had nothing to do with it...

I have sympathy for his wife and family and wish John would have had better sense. It's sad for their family but really none of my business.

So we will never see you comment on another candidate's infidelities again?

what horseshit.

There u people go again, condemming him before all the evidense is in. BTW, I think he is a scumbag, but give him his due.

"The fact that nobody knew about it until Roll Call found out had nothing to do with it..."

Craig was interviewed about the charges he was facing in May of 2007 by the Idaho Statesmen who sat on the story until it was uncovered by Rollcall.

The thought that Edwards, of all people, hasn't sued yet is pretty damning.

I have to agree with that.

Yes, and that's exactly my point, that politics in America has been reduced to the same level as "celebrity scandal news".

The story is that the MSM is not covering this.

The mainstream media's been covering it for a while. There are lots of pro pubs in this Google News search:

news.google.com

You realize you are comparing a scandal involving a guy who has not help public office for 4 years and is not running for office with a sitting Senator and Party nominee? Do you no see any difference between the two?

That is bullshit and everybody knows it. He is in politics RIGHT NOW.

One more thing, before you knock the Idaho Statesmen as being some rinky-dink operation you should know that they are operated by the McClatchy Company. If they sound familiar to you that is because the article linked to this thread is from McClatchydc.com.

Yes, the same news organization who is criticizing the rest of the media for not covering the Edwards story is the same one that buried the Larry Craig story for months, even after he pled guilty.

Craig was interviewed about the charges he was facing in May of 2007 by the Idaho Statesmen who sat on the story until it was uncovered by Rollcall.

That's fucking amazing. How did the Idaho Statesmen know Larry Craig was going to get arrested for that one month in advance?

June 11, 2007 is when Craig got arrested and plead guilty.

Eberly, that's fine work taking a little bit of my statement out of context.

I didn't say he wasn't involved in politics. That comment was in response to another in which a comparison between McCain and Edwards was drawn. What I said was that there is a big difference between covering a potential President versus an also-ran.

Johnny? How did the Statesmen pull off that amazing bit of Detective work?

He is in politics RIGHT NOW.

Posted by eberly at 2008-08-08 11:54 AM | Reply

He is in politics no more than you are. The only difference is--people listen to him.

Sorry about that 101, I wasn't clear, I didn't mean the criminal charges. The Statesmen spoke to him in May about charges of sexual misconduct that had been alleged against him others.

By the time they spoke with him in May they were already aware of a man who had relations with Craig as well as several others who had rejected advances from Craig.

Really?

What percentage of his income is based on politics?

ZAP,

what are you arguing? That he has no presence in politics? again, what argument are you making?

post his sources of income, I know you have it ready to cut and paste.

What % of Bill Clinton's income is from politics?

I guess he isn't a significant political figure because he doesn't make any govt salary.

I am following this story. I find it all very interesting. The birth certificate really blows Edward out of the water. The woman was living with Young (who they said was the father) and his wife. Of course, his name isn't on the birth certificate. Then, the Enquirer has a blurry picture of a man holding a child. They have a picture next to it of Edwards wearing a shirt that looks exactly the same with the same sweat spot taking at a different time. It seems pretty bad, but the silence and refusal to respond is the damning part.

I'm stating your wrong.

He isn't in politics any more than Charlton Heston, or Barbara Striessand what they all have in common is a view point that some think is worth reporting.

A personal allegation by the NYT's or the National Enquirer about a person not in office and not running for office requires no address by a political party.

www.foxnews.com

there you go ZAP, since you wouldn't post it.

YOU are the one who asked about his source of income. Not me. I only asserted that he is in politics.

charlton Heston? He is dead and never held office
Babs? never held office.

those the best examples you can find? that is terrible.

However, I will agree with your point about address by a political party.

There goes his prime time speech--

www.drudge.com

I thought I read a headline here on DR that he admitted to an affair. What happened to that post?

Gingrich got hammered because he was messing around when his wife had cancer but the golden boy gets a pass for the same thing!!! What a f*****g world.

I guess the story was being moved, its back.

Put his ass on Maury's next 'I slept with 22 men...' paternity show.

Yes, where does it say he made even a dime as a politician?

those the best examples you can find? that is terrible.

Eb, you can use yourself or just John Q Public. Edwards doesn't make a dime through politics as such he is not a politician.

However, I will agree with your point about address by a political party.

That is the ONLY correct point to this thread..

Gingrich got hammered because he was messing around when his wife had cancer but the golden boy gets a pass for the same thing!!! What a f*****g world.

As he was lambasting Clinton over Monica.

Puling Hypocrite..

Well Edwards tryst can't be all that bad. No major newspaper is covering it. Typical Dems...only the toe tappers are the real scum of the earth.

I guess you don't consider the L.A. Times, Washington Post, New York Times, or the Chicago SunTimes major? Can I borrow your list?

I HAVE SINNED... poor stupid bastard, his political career is over. Maybe not, he is a dem afterall.
h
He and bill can run as a ticket.......

As a Christian I don't see why this is a story. Soloman had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Edwards had quite a ways to go. If he went past those numbers I would be amazed and outraged.

Old Testament Thom

"Besides, this Edwards thing is all innuendo until there's a DNA test. I've never heard a word from him regarding affairs.

Posted by AMERICANUNITY"

What? Like he would admit it? LOL!

Come on, AU, you can do better than that...

What was he doing in Beverly Hills at her hotel in her room in the middle of the night? Multiple choice: a) Getting a little b) Visiting his daughter c) Giving ca$h, alot of it d) All of the above e) B and C f) None of the above g) Innocent social visit from a caring, kind, loving human being

Posted by danved at 2008-08-01 07:13 AM |

In hindsight, I think the choice is now "D". How many of you still think "G"?

Edwards is human and has now admitted it publicly.

Just how "evil" is this man?

What about the rest of us? Are we superior? Take a look at this set of statistics?

www.divorcepeers.com

A great many people will consider Edwards unfit to serve. It would seem that most of us are.

Damn, he's gonna roll somebody, too? SOB has all the luck, huh?

The problem with Edwards is he presented himself as the perfect one, while performing acrobatic stunts, possibly using campaign donations to cover the performances, yeah, we ARE superior, we were not running for the Highest office in the land during the performances. I can't hold myself to a higher standard without placing others there. The biggest thing for me is - he's still lying his eyes off. If he fessed up, considering his wife's condition, he'd have a pass from me, denials are for the young and foolish.

Have you ever wondered why politician's, and preacher's wives stick with their men through thick and thin. No really, why? My old lady would leave me with nothing worth having, were I in this same situation. Could it have something to do with the ability to fabricate at the drop of a hat?

Allegations? It's a fact!

I too see a seriously discrepancy in they way Newt and Jon are being treated in the news/.

Oh well, now Edwards has withdrawn from participation.

So, Obama has the endorsement of a convicted murderer as the murderer's last statement before execution, and the support of hate-monger Rev. Wright, and the rapper, who raps for Obama, but now a simple adulterer is disqualified from joining in the overt endorsements.

Shucks.

I wish I had a penny for each time adultery is committed in the United States - it'd provide a comfortable living. We are such hypocrites and deny our basic nature. I suspect that variations in the strength of libidinous urges enables this situation to continue.

I wonder if among married couples, the number of adulterers exceeds the number who have been fidelitous. I'll bet the farm that the number of people who have engaged in extramarital sex exceeds the number of people who haven't.

That said, Edwards has always been a phoney, a dissembler.

Why is Obama claiming that he has been shooting blanks? It doesn't make any sense.
