I think the rebates must have helped. Some people would have actually consumed them as they were supposed to in order to stimulate the economy. How many? Who knows?

If I thought that the $90 billion dollars that it cost came from somewhere other than Bush's ever-eager creditors in Saudi and China, I'd be even happier but......

We put our $1200 straight into our contingency savings account which had only been growing at about 10% of the rate that it had a few years back. Others would have paid down credit cards -- easily the best idea. Others who didn't really need it could have done anything with it, in my younger days when I was in that category I would have pissed all of it up against the wall in one way or another. Literally with about half of it.
