Politico: In a video sent to donors, Barack Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe says the campaign received 100,000 contributions Thursday, a third of them from first-time donors. "I think John McCain has harmed himself in the last week, really eroding any capital he had built up in terms of what kind of politician he is," Plouffe says.

Don't you just love it when a campaign stands around all indignant and continues to shoot itself in the foot over and over and over again?

Evidently the McCainites, wandering aimlessly in the desert of pending doom, think that attacks on Obama will turn the tide and move the needle in their favor. The media breathlessly reports that daily tracking polls tighten, even when true political analysts show empherically the same thing happens every week because of the statistical model in use, not because of true shifts in the electorate.

Now we find out that downright false attack ads are driving numbers higher and higher....

Obama's CAMPAIGN contributions that is!

Keep it up fellas, Barack can use the money to contest in even more formerly red states.

McCain's campaign is starting to remind me of "Clown Car" (www.youtube.com).

Especially after McAncient promised to not go negative.

Would that be a flip, flop or lie?

McCain pledges 'respectful campaign'

www.usatoday.com

yeah, it has helped tie up the polls.

I think Obama's camp is preaching to the choir and calling it success.

The media was going gaga over Obama and losing common sense and it was the McCain ad that brought a little reminder that they (media) will lose credibility if they get in the mode of worshipping their darling --- Chris Matthews' leg stirring nevertheless....

^^^ I kind of agree. Polls show a consistent leveling of the field over the last week or two. Obama is not playing towards his streangths and is not playing off of Mccain's weaknesses. Mccain wants to debate? fine do it. For A guy that is supposed to be a great public speaker to duck an extra debate or two against a guy that has bored the socks off of every audience he has spoken in front of just does not make sense.

Press gives McCain millions in free advertising...
Ads allow McCain to frame the debate...
Ads solidify McCain's base...
Obama drops 9 points in the polls in on week!!!!
Has Obama playing steady defense...
Dupes Obama into playing the race card...

Yeah, great success!!!

"it has helped tie up the polls."

A tie, with a 100 point electoral lead? Laughable.

www.Cafepress.com has a running "meter" to measure how each candidate is faring in terms of campaign stuff selling. So far, it's Mr. Obama by quite a bit nationwide and in Texas, where 65 percent are for Obama gear and 20 percent for McCain stuff. These sales have predicted the winner in every election since Harry Truman (it predicted Harry Truman, rememember the "Dewey Won" headlines)

Danforth

I do not think it is a good idea to look at the electoral map to predict presidential races, especially if the polling is close. For instance in Kerry V Bush the national polls were a lot closer than the electoral aggregates were. Polling methods may be inconsistent between states and data taken on different dates are often lumped together on one map.

I do not think it is a good idea to look at the electoral map to predict presidential races,

However it's quite popular for electing presidents.

Thank GOD, I knew, eventually, someone would find a way to HELP Obama!!

"The uppity nigger has played the race card! Hide the white wimmen!"

John Mcsame

This discussion is like most others surrounding McCain and Obama... And is evidence to why people are amazed at the blind devotion the Obama supporters have for him... It's crazy.

I'm a McCain supporter, but I can say there are areas he has made mistakes or areas I don't agree on policy...

Not Obama people. objectivity is completely out the window! kinda like that die-hard Lions fan who just swears they will make the super bowl no matter how bad they are.

That's right, only you McCain supporters know the true meaning of honesty and integrity, as you bump along the Striahgt Takl Xperses.

LOL

Oh yes... more stupidity. just like he did to Clinton. For some reason it is impossible to simply disagree with his policy views.

For Obama supporters, if you don't vote for him you must be a racist!

Nice well played Obama. Good luck with that approach in the fall.

"Danforth, I do not think it is a good idea to look at the electoral map to predict presidential races, especially if the polling is close."

What country do you live in? Here, the popular vote means nothing; it's all about the electoral college, and any way you slice it, a 100 point electoral vote win is a landslide.

"For Obama supporters, if you don't vote for him you must be a racist!"

God, what a whiney bunch you Jurassic John admirers are.

Note that it's your crowd that keeps saying this. The same peanut gallery that supplies pseudo-religious descriptions of Obama.

Face up to the facts: Your candidate sucks, and tearing the other guy down with cheap attacks isn't going to change that.

I'm a McCain supporter, but I can say there are areas he has made mistakes or areas I don't agree on policy...

THEDUDE

Ya, and I'm reasonably sure you would have been one of the guys holding a sign for Bush that said, "Fucking A Mr. President!" until you caught up with the rest of us to discover he is a total moron incompetent.

Pullllleaze

First of all... yes McCain has a number of problems going into the campaign this year. Most notably a guy called George Bush.

**** Please not the above is an example of a McCain supporter being objective... you should try it sometime.

And you must have missed my second point so I will say it again....

Obama people are the ones saying over and over again that if you don't vote for Obama you must be a racist!

Please see post by northguy3 as an example

"Please see post by northguy3 as an example"

OMG, the guy can't distinguish between a joke, and reality.

There's a difference?

Another interesting thing I find humorous... and so ironic...

Obama supporters and the democrats in general are supposed to be so kind, open minded, understanding. I have to say I have never seen such profane, hateful people in my life!

Seriously, it's OK for people to have differing opinions and still be civil to one another.

"Obama supporters and the democrats in general are supposed to be so kind, open minded, understanding. I have to say I have never seen such profane, hateful people in my life"

On your first day?!?

That begs the question: have you ever posted on The Drudge Retort before, and if so, under what name(s)?

Seriously, it's OK for people to have differing opinions and still be civil to one another.

After the slash and burn politics of Rove and the GOP, don't expect civility.

Obama supporters and the democrats in general are supposed to be so kind, open minded, understanding. I have to say I have never seen such profane, hateful people in my life!

Then you lead a sheltered existence.

Haven't posted before, but read often.

"Haven't posted before, but read often."

Riiiiiiiiiight.

Now the race is tied. Time for McCain to expose what a real phony BO is.

yeah right.......

for days and days we had to see and hear this 'citizen' of the world and watch as the world kissed his ass and all of the major talkers were there and it was all so encitefull and inspiring.
and when he gets back...

gallop has him a little behind in the polls.......
and mccain has crept up in some states, some KEY states........you liberal fucks were screaming this out for obama last week or so, so lets here it this week
it was a good week for mccain.

you liberal fucks were screaming this out for obama last week or so, so lets here it this week

Indeed! Here's to McSame the also ran of '08!

Now the race is tied. Time for McCain to expose what a real phony BO is.

yah, is that why latest Gallup (2 hrs ago) now shows Obama ahead 45 / 44, moving in wrong direction for you (was 44 / 44 yesterday)

all other polls show Obama ahead

"gallop has him a little behind in the polls....."

Not in the only barometer that counts: electoral votes. McCain trails by 100; that's landslide territory.

Danforth,

Because, most likely, the pstatistics on aggregated electoral maps is less accurate than the the national poll. And if you have Gallup and Rassmussen showing a tie or a 1% difference then it would be very, very unlikely to have have an electoral map that favors obama by a 100. Again I say that with Bush V Kerry aggregated electoral maps came way off but the national polls (well established ones anyway) were quite accurate in predicting the winner

McCain trails by 100; that's landslide territory.

Aw come on Dan lighten up, BL2 doesn't even have his new name lined up yet..

"Because, most likely, the pstatistics on aggregated electoral maps is less accurate than the the national poll."

Nonsense. Statewide polls tell the important story: where will the electoral votes be going? National polls give the same weight to a Wyoming voter as a voter in a toss-up state. The electoral college doesn't.

Check out electoral-vote.com

I predict "THEDUDE" will not abide.

well I am about to settle on bigdick mcquirk or

but let me ask something of you scholars
this morning I was awoken by a rainstorm and I turned the tv on to pbs and there was a three hour doc on andy jackson and I thought it was enthralling. anyone know of a really good book about him and his presidency.
it seems that when he was elected he FIRED 18 DISTRICT ATTORNEYS>...........and I thought that was against the law
and oh yeah when abolitionists published pamphlets against slavery, he told postmasters to BURN THEM.......or was I half asleep.
wasnt some guy named meacham or like that the main biographer?
want to get a copy of something to read more aboutit.
PICTURES ARE OPTIONAL>........

also, they really gave him some shit for marrying his first wife because she had to get a divorce or something like that.......he must not have been a clinton democrat.

this morning I was awoken by a rainstorm and I turned the tv on to pbs

So there is hope...

todays Zogby Electoral poll
Obama 372 McCain 147

todays electoral-vote poll
Obama 316 McCain 209

"it seems that when he was elected he FIRED 18 DISTRICT ATTORNEYS"

Not at the beginning AND the middle, like Bush's DOJ did? Just when he was elected, like all Presidents do?

BTW, at The Hermitage, the guides claim it was a "self-sustaining" farm. Only when you get to the outer reaches of the property do you get the rest of the story: 150 slaves.

Fox started it.

I understand you are trying to be funny but you are stereotyping again. being conservative doesnt mean you dont read or watch pbs.

and so what about the massacre at horseshow bend.would he have any chance at being elected today>?
of course things are so much different now, and I guess at that time the only good injun was a dead injun...........

Danforth

I yea, I persused that site many a time during the last election. False hopes it gave me for Kerry. Oh look their data from North Dakota was taken july 23rd, Nevada was taken Jul 16th, South Dekota July 9th, michagine july 22nd. Virgina is an important swing state and the last poll they have up was from July 16th. Looks pretty up to date to me. It looks like Rassmusen is used as the primary source, which is probably a good thing, bu I still see 4 or so different polling agencies represented on that map.

okay.......someone give me a name of a book on andy.
going to goggle it now.............

being conservative doesnt mean you dont read or watch pbs.

Dan points out the paradox, you see fired and ignore the rest.

Yes you are the stereo typical conservative blind koolaide drinker, but lovable.

I know. Unless Obama hits a major scandal, McCain is done. But the MSM keeps pushing the "tied in polls" meme because they want a horserace.

Unfortunately, for them, most polls are done with land lands, and a large number of people use cell phones only. (I am one) and not just the kids, either.

Nice spin!

You can guarantee that McCain will continue to "help the Obama campaign" in every way possible!

"Nice spin!"

100,000 contributors last week, a third of them new, and a pattern emerging of increased donations when he's attacked....

Where's the spin?

There appears to be some grumbling from the Democrats who remember when Kerry started being Swiftboated 4 years ago and everyone on the left said, "Oh, noone will buy into their lies...." and we see how that went. But I disagree with those who claim that Obama has to return tit for tat.

I think his team understands the solution and will do what's necessary to bury John McCain under his won mountain of lies and distortions which will derail once and for all any notion of a Straight Talk express.

The next Obama commercial should be a minute and it should start by showing the claims McCain makes in his advertisements along with the claims of decency he was making earlier this year. It should show him claiming that Obama was injecting race into the campaign right after showing the McCain ad that morphs Obama's face onto a $100 bill replacing that of Ben Franklin's while turning it YELLOW from green! All Obama needs to do is publicize the truth about McCain's lies and then document all his proposals that W and the GOP now are trying to claim as their own, such as his repeated call for "being as careful withdrawing from Iraq as we were careless going into it" which the McCainites continue to call "immediate withdrawal" as though their dictionary is different than the rest of our's. Reinforcing our efforts in Afghanistan and along Pakistan's border which both Bush and McCain now agree, along with negotiating with North Korea and Iran, again things Bush has subsequently done long after Obama made these key planks of his platform for the Presidency.

McCain doesn't have vision, he has hindsight that ignores the fact the surge wouldn't have been necessary if he hadn't allowed the fools in his party to overrule the military leaders that called for many more troops and better security planning during the initial invasion. He never talks about that, does he?

Priceless. 3 camera angles. All the glory. Wow.

"All the glory. Wow."

It's like McCain is making commercials for Obama. All the Dems have to do is keep playing this, and the "You Kids Get Off My Lawn" speech, and it's over.

BL2... WOW, that's some understatement you just made.

"Dupes Obama into playing the race card"

It was the McCain campaign that created an ad that replaced Ben Franklin's white face on the c-note with Obama's and modified his expression and eyes to make him look a bit crazy and goofy. It was also the McCain campaign who put Obama in an add with Hilton and Spears which reminds of the "Call me" ad that was ran against Harold Ford Jr.

But no, the McCain campaign isn't playing the race card.

What do you expect from McCain...He graduated academically 864th out of a graduating class of 868
at the US Navel academy in 1958 and the guys Father and Grandfather were both Admirals. Hmm... A party or just a fucking idiot?

Is that Presidential material in your book?

Can America afford another Dumbass President with intelligence equal to that of the Asshole we have now.

What is it with Republicans ? Do they like having Fucking Idiots for Presidents?

The only reason McCain is a Senator is because he played the sympathy card that he was a POW in the Vietnam War and got people to feel sorry for him.

Well I feel sorry for him...but he is still an intellectual Pig Headed Dumb-ass and thats all he'll ever be.

"It's called the total evaporation of his 9 point lead..."

Yet not a dent in his 100 EV lead. Must be frustrating, I know.

"Have you checked the news lately? Or do you have it all figured out with your electoral discussions?

Which do you think will matter by the end of the first week in November? And why do you pretend the popular vote will be the determinant? It's ALL about the electoral map.

jake --
Barack likes to tell a story about the two of us standing backstage before his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention.

The way he tells it, he was too busy in the days before the convention to feel any pressure -- but about an hour before the speech, I could tell he was getting a little nervous.

To break the tension, right before he went out on stage I leaned in close and said, "Just don't screw it up, buddy."

We laughed. And then Barack brought the house down.

This year, the house is going to be a lot bigger. More than 75,000 people will be in Denver to be part of this important moment, and I want to tell you about an opportunity to join Barack backstage before his acceptance speech.

Ten supporters who make a donation in any amount by midnight this Thursday, July 31st, will be selected to fly to Denver, spend a couple of nights in a hotel, participate in the convention, and go Backstage with Barack. Each supporter who is selected will also get to bring a guest along to share the experience.

Make a contribution of $5 or more today and you could have your own Backstage with Barack story to tell:

Barack's speech at the convention will be a culmination of the unlikely journey that has brought all of us so far over the past 17 months.

He will call on us to come together and work for change -- not just to win this election, but to make things better for all Americans.

Seeing it in person will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm excited about being there, and if you make a donation of $5 or more before the deadline, you could join Barack backstage:

Thanks for everything you've done to get us here.

on my God,
I think I am going to cry. he TRUELY is the messiah or is it moses according to the latest ad?

you dips are so ate up with his empty suited rhetoric about nothing. problem is all of the people who are going to yellow dog it or because he doesn't LOOK LIKE THE REST of the presidents.

and AGAIN, this morning I heard a comment about the 'right wing attack machine' and moments later THIS SAME PERSON was attacking McCain with a vengeance. and the left still thinks they can get away with this twoway street.........tsk tsk

of course, of course - everything that happens is good for the Obama campaign in the spin world of Axelwrong - that is of course until he loses the election and they realize that Koolaid is an artifical drink with no real benefits other than a sick feeling...

Spin away Obama--

So now no one can being up that the guy is inexperienced because people say that's a negative ad??

And the guy with the MSM help chirstens himself the One--and with an ad to bring that out--That is also considered a negative ad?

Too funny.

McCain has gained substantially in the polls and is now neck and neck with Obama and even leading in some polls. The Obama campaign is a mess and more and more Obama comes off as an arrogant messiah wannabe who galavants around the world as if he is already the President. Too bad Obama, the coward, has backed off of doing a series of debates with McCain. Off the prepared script, Obama is a joke and American has wised up. The fact is that McCain's ad campaigns have been incredibly successful and polls illustrate this.

"McCain has gained substantially in the polls and is now neck and neck with Obama and even leading in some polls."

Not in the only poll that matters, the EV poll. That has Obama way ahead.

Obama was the first to compare himself to Paris Hilton:

By Seton Motley
August 4, 2008

The uproar of the media, serving as adjunct PR firms in defense of their beloved Sen. Barack Obama in response to Sen. John McCain's video comparing the Illinois Senator to Paris Hilton, was deafening. The ad was described as "nasty", "childish" and "juvenile", a "strange" "nuclear attack" for having dared to compare their anointed one to the brainless celebutant hotel heiress.

Sen. McCain and his camp responded that it was all in good fun, and was made only to point out the ridiculous Tiger Beat-squealing teenage girl nature of the over-the-top, all-encompassing coverage thus far afforded Obama by his Paparazzi.

But it appears that someone years ago beat Sen. McCain to the comparison punch.
Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Would all of this overwrought press hysteria be rendered even sillier were it to turn out that Sen. McCain was in actuality quoting Sen. Obama? Methinks that it would.

A February 24, 2005, Washington Post article begins:

There's nothing exotic or complicated about how phenoms are made in Washington, and, more to the point, how they are broken.

"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," says Barack Obama. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

That is pretty much the who and the why of Sen. McCain's explanation of his ad, is it not? It turns out he wasn't mocking Sen. Obama so much as channeling him. Or making a mini-documentary out of the Post's article.

Either way, it is just another example of the elite media not liking a Leftist's own words being used against him in the court of public opinion.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," says Barack Obama. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

Still ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse.

That doesn't mean he's as braindead as paris. He was saying that he's being seen a lot. Jesus...

Also, they're probably not happy they gave McBush their money.

Even Britney is pissed about the commercial. ROFLMAO!

Poking fun at himself, too. Nice humor.

So McCain stole Obama's idea, claimed credit, again?

That would be funny if it wasn't so sad. No, it's still funny!

What does Kathy Hilton think?

"It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs," Kathy Hilton said. "And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next president of the United States."

Kathy Hilton, continued saying the ad was "a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign."

You just don't get it do you? Mentioning someone in a neutral phrase isn't derogatory. Using that same someone to imply that someone else is, a.) a slut with dubious moral character (remember who's got sex tapes on the market not with her husband?); b.) famous for being an airhead with little of importance to say; c.) being merely an heiress from an iconic family, undeserving of any meaningful public stature whatsoever; remains quite removed from the circumstances of the first comparison.

But then, I'm sure you've already purchased your John McCain tire pressure gauges, haven't you........by the GROSS!
