Senate Republicans are in such perilous shape heading toward Election Day that they argue a four-seat loss would count as a "moral victory," according to an analysis by National Journal.

"Shattering defeat" = "moral victory"

Oh, I get it.
Kind of the way "time horizon" = "timeline"

How much longer until he's gone?

Six looooooong months (until he's actually out the White House door).
I hope we can last that long. aagggghhhh!

Expect the worst and hope for the better.

McCain is not much of a conservative, but at least he's not one of the most liberal Senators like Obama. Clearly, McCain is the lesser of two evils.

"McCain is the lesser of two evils."

If you consider more of the same the lesser evil but I think most Americans think more of what we have now would be the worst case scenario. If you want to see an economic melt down of the US then definitely, vote for John McCain.

"McCain is the lesser of two evils"

Same bullshit I've been hearing from Bush supporters and all that's gotten us screwed time and again.

Heard the lesser of two evils stuff in 2000 and 3004. Boy, has history proven you guys wrong. You do recall history, don't you. It's what Bush performed a sexual act on himself with.

"McCain is the lesser of two evils"

Don't you rightwingers see the problem you have in this election? On the one side is a candidate who fills arenas and stadiums with people enthusiastic about his campaign.

On the other side is a candidate who seems to inspire nothing but an applesauce avalanche. Someone who is described by his "champions" as nothing but "the lesser of two evils."

"The lesser of two evils." That's a hell of a campaign slogan.

I've been thinking about the George W. Bush memorial. I think it should be a bronze statue of the man about to set a trillion pile of dollars alight. That captures his essence.

I think that memorial should be of him handing his cronies bags of cash. that's a little more accurate than setting it on fire.

On the one side is a candidate who fills arenas and stadiums with people enthusiastic about his campaign. - Germany 1936

John McCain-the whiter of two evils.

The Right

"McCain is not much of a conservative"

Very few, if any, Republicans are these days.

I've been thinking about the George W. Bush memorial. I think it should be a bronze statue of the man about to set a trillion pile of dollars alight. That captures his essence.

I dunno, I think a statue of W lying in a hammock with a giant grin and a cowboy hat perched to shield his eyes from the sun would pretty much describe his presidency.

Either that, or him giving a smaller statue a back rub.

Kind of depends on how you define libs and cons, don't it? I surely see damfew bonnified progressives these days. Kucinich?. Bernie Sanders? O'Bama is a wishy-washy centrist, maybe the best a brainwashed American populace will ever accept. If Mc Same isn't conservative enough for some folks, some folks need to get their arteries unclogged. herm

Wal Street owns Republicans and Democrats. The only difference is they give more to Republicans. Obama is also in their pocket. His race provides cover for them to continue to pillage and plunder the country.

O'Bama may mean one yacht or Lear jet less to a few CEOs, but as N. says, he won't change the system. If he ever threatened a real change, the corporate hit squads would be out so fast ... herm

Nailed it!

Too bad, so sad. Hundred years of war, time to start drafting poor kids who don't have well connected families.

168 days left CC. Very curious to see what happens to this thing when it leaves office.

The GOP is a total and utter failure in governance, but their one accomplishment is making the word "conservative" sound like something positive.

And conversely a Rethug can't complete a sentence without the "liberal" word in it... great accomplishment for the country.

Anything better than 60-40 it won't make any difference. We can fillibuster till the cows come home. Besides, most of those new Dem Senators will be conservative.

Now i understand that the demos are corporate whores. But after the sheer number of f#ckups the gop has put this country through, it's embarassing to me that the lot hasn't been impeached.

That's the tried and true philosophy of Incumbency over Constituency!

What Republicans want in a politician:
A politician that tells the truth
A politician that will not tax more than necessary
A politician that will spend our tax dollars frugally
A politician that has good morals
A politician that is as proud of their private life as they are their public life, thus the image they portray to the world
A politician that will protect the citizens of the U.S.
A politician that will pass only laws that are necessary
A politician that insists on those receiving our tax dollars actually need and earn those dollars
A politician that will not spend tax dollars on frivolous ideas or ideals
A politician that will stay out of the citizens lives and not dictate what they way they should think or act
A politician that looks after the people and their needs first
A politician that supports the Constitution and doesn't allow misconstruing the words of the Constitution to fit an agenda
A politician that actually thinks of the people as well as the country first and foremost in all decisions
A politician that will not allow corruption trickle into their deeds or mission
A politician that is accountable
A politician that doesn't blame others for their deeds or words
A politician that isn't a politician just to get rich and have power
A politician that is intelligent and has good judgment

What the Democrats want in a politician:
A politician that can beat a Republican

As you can see, during past elections neither side has been very successful in either for both the general as well as the Presidential elections.

So John McCain ISN'T going to be your nominee, then?

Now i understand that the demos are corporate whores. But after the sheer number of f#ckups the gop has put this country through, it's embarassing to me that the lot hasn't been impeached.

If the full breadth of the Jack Abramoff/Tom Delay/Ralph Reed/K Street fiasco were known the GOP would be lucky to retain 10 Senate seats.

McCain's been sitting on most of that info gathered by the Indian Affairs Committee. Probably to keep other Republicans in line until the election is over.

It's really shocking.

The "Moral Majority" folks would also be shocked at how well they were played by these greedy bastards who had no interest in anything moral - quite the opposite.

We can criticize Obama for moving to far towards the center but if he didn't he wouldn't get elected.
Being pragmatic won't please those who are more concerned with philosophy than with change but I think most Americans want progress towards our goals of national health care, restructuring of trade deals, changes to tax laws that return us to economic rationality, etc. I think Obama is somewhat like Bill Clinton, and that is a hell of a lot better than being a Bush 3rd term like McBush.

Obama, the change that is ELECTABLE!!

KBM

You should watch "NOW: Capitol Crimes"

You right wingers were played like a violin.

Jack Abramoff is not done yet. Soon you will know the breadth of the scandal the GOP engaged in. Then you will know what suckers you have been.

"but I think most Americans want progress towards our goals of national health care..."

Posted by danni

for the record, Obama is NOT for national healthcare, only for greater access to private insurers, further entrenching the industry.

"Obama, the change that is ELECTABLE!!"

When the dem's know that they don't have to do a single thing in furtherance of their own supposed agenda that will threaten the loss of their party's power (second fiddle as it is), that is definitely true.

A politician that looks after the people and their needs first
unless it takes too much effort.

A politician that supports the Constitution and doesn't allow misconstruing the words of the Constitution to fit an agenda

A politician that is intelligent and has good judgment
A mind is a terrible thing to waste

It doesn't get more ridiculous than listening to these greedfuckers blame the Democrats for high oil prices.

Want lower prices get the fuck out of the middle east and curb speculation. Why do we need speculators? They are just another overhead, tax or whatever you want to call it.

Careful, you just MIGHT get what you ask for! Then what will you do? Every day of the year, the Republicans spent less than the Dems. Where do you think the ORIGINAL deficit came from? Times up!

"Every day of the year, the Republicans spent less than the Dems."

Well, there's an easily proven lie. If spending were an Olympic event, the Republicans would own the gold, silver and bronze.

Same for deficits. World records, all.

original deficit came from reagan? nixon?

Lets not be foolish R or D its all the same spend like there is no tomorrow and hope the GDP grows into it or leave the next guy holding the bag.

"Lets not be foolish R or D its all the same spend like there is no tomorrow"

And lets not be unrealistic. The largest deficits and the highest spending of all time can be laid squarely at the feet of the Republicans.

I agree Dan but are these numbers normalized for inflation? I don't know which is worse. I used to think that the R's would let me keep more of my money and in a sense that is true but under their watch my spending power has eroded to the point that its a net loss almost. So now I am swinging back to the D's stying out of my private life as a better ROI. But then there is all the climate change nonsense.

So we're pretty much fucked, right?

"I agree Dan but are these numbers normalized for inflation? "

Yes.

The worst though, is the alarming increase in the % of our annual budget the interest on the debt eats. When GWB took office, it was 11%; now it's 16.7%, a rise of 50% in one administration.

DON`T MAKE ME LAUGH, WHERE CAN I FIND ONE...JOHN McCAIN,HE LOOKS DUMB, STIFF, LIKE A ROBOT, HE NEEDS TO SMOKE WEED TO BE FUNNY....

So tell me, KBM - when do you righties actually plan to run a candidate like this?

"What Republicans want in a politician:

What's the solution Danforth?
Raise taxes on the rich?
Cut spending?
WAR?
Will democrats change our direction? can they?

"Raise taxes on the rich?"

Yes. They've certainly benefitted the most from the deficit policies.

"Cut spending?"

ABSOLUTELY.

"WAR?"

We've seen the bad ROI on that. No thanks.

"Will democrats change our direction? can they?"

Only one way to find out.

As much as I'd like to see 60 Dem seats, I don't see it. Pickups will be certain in NM and VA, highly probable in CO and NH, and better than 50-50 in OR and AK. So where are the other 3 seats? Maine? Collins is ahead. Minnesota? Franken has run a poor campaign, but Norm Coleman is a bigger boob than either of Pamela Anderson's. Mississippi? Blue dog Musgrove has a shot. That's 57 seats, assuming that Joe Lieberman isn't drawn and quartered. When all is said and done, getting legislation through the Senate will need the goodwill of Collins, Snowe, Spector, and maybe Voinivich. A little change and perhaps movement in health care, but not much.

Anything better than 60-40 it won't make any difference. We can fillibuster till the cows come home. Besides, most of those new Dem Senators will be conservative.

WOW. I always knew you're were none too bright, now I just think you may be retarded.

I watched a show on book tv yesterday with david broder interviewing george will.....any of you liberal scholars do that? oh I bet you were watching one of those all out warrior shows instead.
well anyway
will said when asked about the conservative movement

that 4 years of liberal governing will spring conservatism back into unparalleled levels..( I AM PARAPHRASING)

I tend to agree but if we can do it without even on term of higher taxes and more attacks on american soil and all of the "Unintended consequences" of liberalism, then thats even better

and the question , of courseis,.......with the right in such bad shape, then the polls should reflect that.
OOPS........but they dont, do they?????????????????

"OOPS........but they dont, do they??"

A 100 + point EV lead? Yes, they do.

Wrong, BLT, the polls -- even the Repub Election Projection -- show the righties losing six seats. 2 of those 6 are red states. I wouldn't call that a good sign for the Repubs.

dan........here we are again arguing polls that will change tomorrow. so what?
carter was well ahead of reagan
kerry was ahead of bush
dukaksis was ahead of 41.
please........

seabiscuit.........no one cansay that things are hunkydory. its that old cycle thing again,.

"dan........here we are again arguing polls that will change tomorrow. so what?"

So I bet you'd rather be 100 EVs ahead than 100 EVs behind.

" its that old cycle thing again"

So that "permanent majority" thing was just another unicorn?
